Robert Lucious 'Doug' Penton

FRANKLINTON - The funeral service for Robert Lucious "Doug" Penton, 76, is scheduled for 11 a.m. tomorrow in the chapel of Crain Funeral Home, the Eld. Ted Phillips, Dr. Gene Richards, and the Eld. Theodore Lewis officiating.

Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home and continues after 8 a.m. tomorrow until time of services.

Burial will follow in the Tarver Family Cemetery.

Mr. Penton died Wednesday in Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo and Charles Penton Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Laurette Penton; two daughters, Anita Braconi, Corsica, France and Anne Sylvest, LaPlace; two brothers, Leslie Ray Penton, Bogalusa and Coy Penton, Atlanta; a sister, Opal Breland, Franklinton; a special niece, June Tarver, Franklinton; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Allie Mae Jordan Sumrall
Obituary dated February 4, 2000
FRANKLINTON The funeral service for Allie Mae Jordan Sumrall, 84, a resident of the Acy's Creek community, is scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow in the chapel of Crain Funeral Home, Eld. Don Jacobs officiating.

Visitation is from 5-10 today at the funeral home, continuing after 9 a.m. tomorrow until time for the final service.

Burial will be in the Acy's Creek Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Sumrall died Wednesday at 5 p.m. in St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Covington.

She was a retired practical nurse and a member of the Lawrence Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie L. Sumrall.

Survivors include two son, Leslie Wendell Sumrall, Biloxi and Jerry Sumrall, Baton Rouge; a daughter, Janice Sticker, Bush; a brother Cullie Jordan, Bogalusa; two sisters, Ruby Creel and Eva Thomas, Franklinton; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Earl O'Bryant

(Died Nov. 9, 1999)

FRANKLINTON The funeral service for Earl O'Bryant, age 62, was held today at 11 a.m. at the Crain Funeral Home. Eld. Charles Ray Creel and the Rev. Lavoy Bennett officiated, with interment following in the Cauley Thomas Family Cemetery.

A resident of the Thomas community, he died Tuesday at 4:20 a.m. in St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Covington.

He is survived by a son, Timothy E. O'Bryant of Thomas; three step-children, David Brooks of Thomas, Wayne Brooks of Texas and Mary McBeth of Florida; two brothers, Arlie O'Bryant of Thomas and Fleet O'Bryant of Denham Springs; two sisters, Ellen Stephens of Rosenberg, TX and Sally White of Denham Springs; also nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held yesterday from 5 to 10 p.m. at the funeral home.

Malcolm Ellis "Mack" Campbell

BOGALUSA - The funeral service for Malcolm Ellis "Mack" Campbell will be held today at 2 p.m. in the Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home. He died Sunday at his residence.

Visitation was yesterday from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home and continued today at 9 a.m. until time for the final service. The Rev. Shane Hall will officiate, with interment to follow in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mary Stewart Campbell, Bogalusa; a son, Scott Campbell, Arlington, VA; a daughter, Stefanie Campbell Genco, Bogalusa; his father and his wife, Bill and Hazel Campbell, Carriere, MS; a step-father, Carlton Vance, Ocean Springs, MS; five sisters and brother-in- laws, Carla Vance, Ocean Springs, MS, Zadie Hayes, McNeill, MS, Louise and Jack Rodriguez, Sugarland, TX, Linda Bourgeois, McNeill, MS and Madeline Campbell, McNeill, MS; a mother-in-law, Mrs. Wilda Stewart, Bogalusa; sister-in-law, Pat Vance, Ocean Springs, MS; brother-in-laws, Richard and Ella Mae Stewart, Mandeville, Michael Stewart, Houston, TX; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mallie Vance and a brother, Craig Vance.

Active pallbearers are Ed Barber, Mack Knight, Roy Wells, Polo Capo, Ernie Dale Knight, Richard Stewart, Lloyd Ball and Elbert Harris. Honorary pallbearers are Tek Cooper, Tank Cooper, Mike Cooper, Twister Wascom, Tommy Warner, Rodney Pierce, Bill Simmons, Billy Simmons, Bryan Stewart, Michael Stewart, Jack Rodriguez, George Johnson and Jason McKenzie.

The family requests memorials to St. Tammany Hospice, 1202 S. Tyler St., Covington, LA 70433.

Mrs. Esther Watson Baker

BOGALUSA - Funeral arrangements are incomplete for Esther Watson Baker, 90, who died yesterday at her residence.

Crain and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Eunice Cooper

BOGALUSA - Eunice Cooper, age 85, a resident of Bogalusa died Tuesday in Rest Haven Living Center. She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, Dudley Cooper of Bogalusa; three grandchildren, Patricia Cooper, Jackie Cooper, Maria Galloway, Derinda and Toby Hughes; three great-grandchildren, Adam Hughes, Jennifer Hughes and Brittany Galloway.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Cooper, a daughter, Betty Cooper; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Cooper; and a sister, Ernestine Henley.

Visitation was yesterday at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home. The funeral service is at 11 a.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Curtis Epnett, the Rev. Lochte Tynes and Toby Hughes officiating. interment will follow in Ponemah Cemetery.

Sarah Idalzie Seal Rester

BOGALUSA - Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Idalzie Seal Rester, 85, a native of Mississippi and a longtime resident of Bogalusa, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Gene Simpkins officiating.

Visitation is from 5-10 p.m. today and continues after 9 a.m. tomorrow.

Burial will follow in Crossroads Pentecostal Church Cemetery in Crossroads, Miss., Brown-McGehee Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Rester died Dec. 31, 1999 at Bogalusa Community Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred Strahan, her second husband, Jewel Rester, a grandson, Chris Killens, and a son-in-law, Alcus Davis.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Junior Ray (Francis Strahan) Killens, Crossroads, Miss.

and Fredine Strahan Davis, Bogalusa; one step daughter, Donna Strahan Ard, Bogalusa; a sister, Julia Mitchell, Bogalusa; four grandchildren, Mrs. Stephen (Karen Davis) Jenkins, Folsom, La., Mrs. Wade (Regina Killens) Taylor , Bend, O., Ricky Killens and his wife Lisa, Crossroads, Miss., Charlotte Davis Leonard, Bogalusa; eight great-grandchildren, Mrs. John (Letecia Lorio) Rhodes, Crossroads, Miss., Cory and Karissa Jackson , Bend, O., Blake Jackson , Poplarville, Miss., Kody and Kaleb Killens, Crossroads, Miss., and Chris and Kailee Leonard, Bogalusa; two great great-grandchildren, Jared and Jacob Rhoades, Crossroads, Miss., numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by a special sister-in-law, Wilda Rester, and a special friend, Shirley Bailey.

Pallbearers will be Mickey Mitchell, Ronnie Mitchell, Greg Mitchell, Jesse Seal, Junior Seal and Cecil Ray Farr, all nephews of the deceased.

James Douglas "Doug" Kennedy

PINE -- The funeral service for James Douglas "Doug" Kennedy, is scheduled at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Pine Missionary Baptist Church, with Eld Clyde Cooper, Eld James Broome, Eld Glynn Erwin, Eld Willie Kennedy and Eld Douglas Stuart officiating.

Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue tomorrow from 8 a.m. until noon at Crain Funeral Home and from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at Pine Missionary Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in the Pine Community Cemetery.

Mr. Kennedy died Saturday at Lakeview Regional Medical Center.

He was a retired operator with Crown Zellerbach, a member of Pine Missionary Baptist Church and Pine Lodge No 264, F&AM.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Crain Kennedy, Pine; a daughter and son-in-law, Libbie and Roger Stephens, Pine; a brother and sister-in-law, O D and Elsie Kennedy, Centerville, MS; two grandchildren and their spouses, Stacy and Damon Brown, Corey and Amanda Stephens, all of Pine; three great-grandchildren, Zachary and Seth Brown and Haley Stephens; a step-brother, Fred Thomas, Pine; two step-sisters, Georgia Hughes, Memphis, TN and Jean Branch, Dexter, MS.

FRANKLINTON - Funeral arrangements are incomplete for Oscar Hart, 83, a resident of 46075 Oscar Hart Rd, who died at Dixon Medical Center in Covington.

Erma Cupstid Arnett

(Died July 23, 2000)

BOGALUSA - Erma Cupstid Arnett, 92, a native and lifelong resident of Bogalusa, died yesterday in Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Mandeville. She was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Daphne Haik of Bowie, MD; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six brothers, Henry, Joe, Robert, Charles, Walter, and William Cupstid; and one sister, Roberta Wood.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Mack Arnett; a daughter, Celeste Haik Ulmer; a son, Albert Haik; a brother, Harry Cupstid; two sisters, Sarah Maude and Hester Cupstid.

Visitation will be tomorrow from 6-9 p.m. at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of Brown-McGehee Funeral Home Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Father Lawrence Phelps, OSB, pastor of annunciation Catholic Church, officiating.

Entombment will follow in Lakelawn Mausoleum in New Orleans.

Brown-McGehee Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

FLEMIN LOUIS TOOMER

(DIED JULY 18, 2000)

FRANKLINTON — Flemin Louis Toomer, 77, a resident of 118 South Alexander Street, New Orleans and a native of Franklinton, died Tuesday at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans.

He is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Sibley and Diane Matthews of New Orleans and Cynthia Matthews of Los Angeles; two sons, Flemin Louis Toomer Jr. of Los Angeles and Matthew Toomer of New Orleans; two sisters, Julia Toomer Bonds of New Orleans and Helen James of Franklinton; 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Toomer is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Mary Hall of New Orleans, Ophelia Toomer of Newark, NJ. And Willie Bee James of Franklinton; one brother-in-law, Hilton James of Franklinton and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Franklinton.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel, with Elder Washington E. Drake officiating. interment will follow in the Sweet Home Cemetery.

ANNIE BELL SPIKES

(DIED JULY 18, 2000)

BOGALUSA — Annie Bell Spikes, 53, a resident of 1726 Riverside Drive, Bogalusa, died Tuesday at her home. She was born in Kentwood on May 28, 1947 and was a member of St. John Elizabeth Temple C.O.G.I.C.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny R. Spikes; seven daughters, Shantell D. Granison and husband Donny of Hammond, Nikita E. Harry, Kishina K. Harry and Komiya K. Spikes of Bogalusa, Latoya E. Mingo and husband William and Renekia T. Ramsey of Livingston, TX. and Tonya M. Spikes of New Orleans; four sons, Byron K. Tyner and wife Lenelva of Bogalusa, James L. Harry and Charmarl D. Harry of Baton Rouge and Johnny R. Spikes Jr. of New Orleans.

Spikes was also survived by her mother, Dorothy Hookfin of Bogalusa; four sisters, Dolly Hamilton and husband Robert of Adelanto, CA., Irene Ramsey of Portland, OR., Helen Brown and husband Bobby Ray and Lena Magee of Bogalusa; two brothers, Leroy Ramsey of Portland, OR. and Willie Robinson and wife Dorothy of Livingston, TX.; 21 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harvey Ramsey and two sisters, Betsy Mixon and Eula Bickham.

Visitation will be held at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Family hour will be from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Elizabeth Temple with Elder Bobby Ray Brown officiating. interment will follow in the Bogalusa Cemetery.

JOHN E. JONES

(DIED JULY 20, 2000)

BOGALUSA — John E. Jones, 64, of Sandy Hook, MS., died Thursday at Walthall County General Hospital, Tylertown, MS.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Thiel of Sandy Hook; one son, Dewey Raymond Jones of Laurel, MS. and one granddaughter, Kimberly Renee Jones of Laurel.

Visitation was held yesterday from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of the funeral home today at 2 p.m. interment will follow in the Carson Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Improve, MS.
