John E. Jones

(Died July 20, 2000)

BOGALUSA - John E. Jones, 64, of Sandy Hook, MS., died last Thursday at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Thiel; a step-daughter, Melissa Miller, both of Sandy Hook, MS; a son, Dewey Raymond Jones; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Renee Jones, both of Laurel, MS.

Funeral services were conducted last Saturday from the Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m.

interment followed in the Carson Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Improve, MS.

Christine Harry Magee

(Died Nov. 5, 1999)

FRANKLINTON Funeral arrangements have been completed for Christine Harry Magee, age 73, a resident of 723 18th Street, Franklinton, who died Friday in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.

Visitation will be tomorrow from 3 to 7 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home, Franklinton, followed by the wake service from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Wesley Ray United Methodist Church, Angie, with the Rev. Bruce Brown and the Rev. Marshall Jefferson Jr. officiating. interment will follow in the Jefferson Cemetery.

She is survived by two daughters, Mirand Magee of Lafayette and Iris Bonner of Franklinton; two sisters, Annie E. Bishop and Emma Harry of New Orleans; five brothers, Leroy Harry of Benton, LA, Cleotha Harry of New Orleans, Sylvester Harry of Angie, William Harry of Stone Mountain, GA and Earnest Harry of Angie; two step-daughters, Betty Jones of New Orleans and Verteal Patterson of Warwick, RI; four grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Melvina Draughn of Detroit, Cloteal Magee and Mabel Magee, both of Bogalusa; a brother-in-law, Marshall Jefferson Sr. of Angie; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Don Smith

(Died August 3, 1999)
MT. HERMON - Washington Parish Deputy Sheriff Don Smith died early today at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. Crain Funeral Home is in charge.

Patricia "Patsy" Tyrney Bankston
Obituary dated January 27, 2000
FRANKLINTON - The funeral service for Patricia "Patsy" Tyrney Bankston, 57, are scheduled for 1 p.m. tomorrow in the chapel of Crain Funeral Home, with Pastor Howard Myles Bankston Jr. officiating.

Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, continuing after 9 a.m. tomorrow until time of service.

Burial will follow in the Morris Cemetery.

Mrs. Bankston, a resident of Bogalusa, died Monday at 10 a.m. in Tulane Medical Center, New Orleans.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter D. and Mamie Morgan Tyrney Sr.; and two brothers, Walter D. Tyrney Jr. and George D. Tyrney.

Survivors include a son, Howard Myles Bankston Jr., Tyler, TX; a daughter, Melissa Bankston Smith, Franklinton; a brother, James W. Tyrney, Kentwood; two sisters, Betty Tyrney, Amite and Frankie Tyrney Husser, Omaha, AR; two grandchildren.

Murray McFredrick Brown

(Died July 22, 2000)

BOGALUSA — Murray McFredrick Brown, 56, a resident of Seattle, WA and a former resident of Bogalusa, died Saturday in Lakwood, WA.

Born on April 23, 1944, he was the second child to the union of Murray Allan and Bertha Belle Brown of Bogalusa. He was baptized and began attending St. Paul AME Church in Bogalusa at an early age until he left home in 1965 to join the United States Army. While serving his country in Fort Knox, KY he trained in photography in which field he worked in New York, NY after receiving an honorable discharge from the army.

Brown later attended Southern University in Baton Rouge and obtained a bachelor of arts degree in business administration. He then moved to Seattle, WA and worked several jobs in his profession including working over twenty-four years for the State of Washington . He was a member of First AME Church in Seattle, WA.

He is survived by his parents, Murray A. Brown and Bertha B. Brown; a son and daughter, Andrea and Wesley Brown; five brothers, Lawrence Brown, Kenneth Brown, Clark Brown, Gerald Brown, and George Brown; five sisters; Loraine Battle, Loretta Brown, Diane Bullock, Janice Levingston, and Faye Williams; a granddaughter, Alexis Brown; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Although our hearts are heavy now, We are grateful for the time God gave us with you.
We are truly blessed to have you in our lives.

Visitation will be tomorrow at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa from 2-7 p.m. wit h family hour from 7-9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul AME Church in Bogalusa with the Rev. Louis Brown, Jr. officiating.

interment will follow in Bogalusa Cemetery in Bogalusa.

Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Bogalusa is in charge of arrangements.

Wallace A. "Pete" Fitzmorris

(Died July 22, 2000)

COVINGTON - Wallace A. "Pete" Fitzmorris, 67, a native of Covington and a lifetime resident of St. Tammany Parish, died Saturday.

He was the father of Keli Fitzmorris, Rebecca F. Root and Michael E. Fitzmorris; brother of Jennie F. Oalman and the late Avery, Alton, Leonard, Benny, Eddie, and Frederick Fitzmorris, Juliette Willette, Lillie Mae Fauntleroy and Helen Williams; and grandfather of Codi, Hannah, and Chelsea Fitzmorris.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6-10 p.m. Friday from noon until service time at 2 p.m. from the chapel of E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, Inc., 2260 W. 21st Avenue in Covington. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation, P.O. Box 6965, Metairie, LA 70009-6965 preferred.

Ellouise Polk Knight

(Died July 23, 2000)

BOGALUSA - Ellouise Polk Knight, 73, a resident of Bogalusa, died yesterday at 4:30 p.m. in her home.

She is survived by her husband, Marlon Douglas Knight; five children and their spouses, Gale and Billy Passman, Patricia and Butch Bingham, Wayne Knight, Sherry Amacker, all of Bogalusa, and Paul "Pete" and Tammy Knight of Woodbury, TN; 11 grandchildren, on step grandchild, two sisters, Vera Hughes of Bogalusa and Laverne Miller of Marrero, LA; two sisters-in-law, Jean Polk of Franklinton and Faye Polk of Bogalusa; a special friend, Marilyn Hymel of Bogalusa; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Cleve and Myrtle Mizell Polk; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert Lavon and Marilyn Polk; and twin brothers, Earl and Merle Polk.

Visitation will be today at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 4:30 to 10 p.m. and will continue tomorrow in the chapel from 9 a.m. until time of services at 3 p.m. The Rev. Jerry Blackwell, Glenn Erwin, and brother-in-law, Lanell Knight will officiate.

interment will follow in Ponemah Cemetery.

Mary Smith Perry Ratcliff

(Died July 23, 2000)

FRANKLINTON - Mary Smith Perry Ratcliff, 84, a resident of Franklinton, died yesterday in St. Tammany Hospital in Covington. She was a retired lunchroom worker from Enon School and a member of Enon Baptist Church.

She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Delores Perry of Zachary, William and Dorothy Perry of Theodore, AL, Dewitt and Sharon Perry, Leon and Fran Perry all of Franklinton; three brothers, Hubert Smith of Livingston, C.C. Smith of Watson, and Charles Smith of Eight Mile, AL; a sister Gladys Valliant of Mt. Hermon; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Durward Perry and Zeke Ratcliff.

Visitation will be tomorrow at Crain Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. and will continue tomorrow after 9 a.m.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Greg Carrol and the Rev. Pete Williams officiating.

Burial will follow in the Enon Cemetery.

Crain Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Annie Bell Spikes

(Died July 18, 2000)

BOGALUSA - Annie Bell Spikes, 53, a resident of 1726 Riverside Drive, Bogalusa, died Tuesday at her home. She was born in Kentwood on May 28, 1947 and was a member of St. John Elizabeth Temple C.O.G.I.C.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny R. Spikes; seven daughters, Shantell D. Granison and husband Donny of Hammond, Nikita E. Harry, Kishina K. Harry and Komiya K. Spikes of Bogalusa, Latoya E. Mingo and husband William and Renekia T. Ramsey of Livingston, TX. and Tonya M. Spikes of New Orleans; four sons, Byron K. Tyner and wife Lenelva of Bogalusa, James L. Harry and Charmarl D. Harry of Baton Rouge and Johnny R. Spikes Jr. of New Orleans.

Spikes was also survived by her mother, Dorothy Hookfin of Bogalusa; four sisters, Dolly Hamilton and husband Robert of Adelanto, CA., Irene Ramsey of Portland, OR., Helen Brown and husband Bobby Ray and Lena Magee of Bogalusa; two brothers, Leroy Ramsey of Portland, OR. and Willie Robinson and wife Dorothy of Livingston, TX.; 21 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harvey Ramsey and two sisters, Betsy Mixon and Eula Bickham.

Visitation will be held at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow. Family hour will be from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Elizabeth Temple with Elder Bobby Ray Brown officiating. interment will follow in the Bogalusa Cemetery.

Bert Hunter Lewis, M.D.

(Died July 25, 2000)

ANGIE — Dr. Bert Hunter Lewis, 83, a resident of Angie and a retired country doctor and farmer, died Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in is home of a heart attack.

Born to Bert L. Lewis and Faye Hunter Lewis on March 22, 1917 in El Reno, OK, he was an only child.

Lewis graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1939. He was a 1942 graduate of L.S.U. School of Medicine. He met and married his wife, Thelma DeFalice Lewis, a registered nurse during his medical internship at Charity Hospital. She worked beside her husband during his medical career at Angie. After graduating he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in North Africa. After being discharged as a major he began his medical practice at the Gray-Lewis Clinic in Springhill, LA.

In 1947 he came to Angie to begin medical practice with Dr. Ruffin Fornea. After the death of Dr. Fornea, he remained in private practice until his retirement in 1980. During his years of practice in Angie he treated numerous patients from Washington Parish area including Walthall and Marion County, MS. After retiring from his medical practice he became the medical director for Bogalusa Plasma and also worked part time in the medical clinic at L.S.U. Washington -St. Tammany Regional Medical Center in Bogalusa until his final retirement in 1993.

Lewis is survived by his wife, Thelma DeFelice Lewis of Angie; four children, Mike Lewis of Gulfport, MS, Stephanie Lewis of St. Francisville, Jeff Lewis of Bonner Creek, and Chris Lewis of Varnado; two daughters-in-law, Kim Wascom Lewis of Bonner Creek and Kay Flynt Lewis of Varnado; eleven grandchildren, Heather McFadden, Jennifer McFadden, Hunter Farrar, Brandon Farrar, Jeff Lewis, Jr., Leslie Lewis Toups, Melissa Lewis, Justin Lewis, Brittany Hartford, Christal Lewis and Stephen Lewis; and a great grandchild, Taylor Toups. He will also be missed by a devoted employee and friend of 24 years, Vern Peters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert L. and Faye Hunter Lewis.

Visitation is tomorrow from 6-10 p.m. at Sandy Hook United Methodist Church, Sandy Hook, MS, and will continued Friday after 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the church with Dr. Tommy King, Rev. Michael Knippers and Rev. Harold Babin officiating.

interment will follow in the Sandy Hook United Methodist Church Cemetery in Sandy Hook, MS.

Pallbearers are Dr. Lewis’ nephews, Ronald Kilgen, Sandy DeFelice, Hank DeFelice, Marty DeFelice, Bob DeFelice, Kirk Kilgen, Luke DeFelice and Mark DeFelice.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sandy Hook United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Sandy Hook Baptist Church Building Fund.

Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton is in charge of arrangements.

Charline Lingo Crowe

(Died July 25, 2000)

BOGALUSA - Charline Lingo Crowe, 83, a long time resident of Bogalusa, died Tuesday in Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans.

She is survived by a stepson, Michael G. Crowe of Nellysford, VA; a stepdaughter, Karen Crown Mathews of Marietta, GA; and four grandchildren, Colin and Amy Mathews and Mike and Stephen Crowe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey V. Crowe and her parents, Gertrude Allen Lingo and C.E. Lingo.

Visitation will be held tomorrow at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home from 8 a.m. until time for service at 11 a.m. in the chapel.

interment will follow in Ponemah Cemetery with the Rev. Wilson A. "Bill" Holcombe of the Church of the Way Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge officiating.

Brown-McGehee Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
