(Died August 17, 2000)

NEW ORLEANS - Rae Allen, 45, a resident of New Orleans and sister of Ann Sumrall, previous resident of Bogalusa and former president of the Bogalusa Humane Society, died yesterday in her home.

Survivors include her parents, Woods Allen Sr. and Lorraine Allen; a sister, Ann Sumrall; and two brothers, Owen Allen and Woods Allen Jr.

Funeral arrangements are pending at this time. Oaklawn Funeral Home in Bogalusa is in charge of arrangements.

Any donations from animal lovers can be sent to Jan Applewhite’s Kitty City at 57203 Hwy. 439, Bogalusa.

Harold W. Creel

(Died August 18, 2000)

FRANKLINTON - Harold W. Creel, 61, a longtime resident of Franklinton and current resident of Covington, died today at 4:30 a.m. in St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington. He was retired from Standard Gravel.

He is survived by two brothers, Donald Ray Creel of Covington and Danny Creel of Franklinton.

Visitation will be today at Crain Funeral Home from 6-10 p.m. and will continue tomorrow after 8 a.m.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Eld. Willie J. Passman officiating.

Burial will follow in the Poplarhead Church Cemetery.

Crain Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Clifford Wilson Gerald

(Died August 17, 2000)

GREENWELL SPRINGS, LA - Clifford Wilson Gerald, 78, a resident of Greenwell Springs, LA and a retired sheriff deputy for East Baton Rouge Parish, died yesterday in Lane Memorial Hospital in Zachary, LA. He was a member of the Louisiana Peace Officers Association.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dottie C. Gerald; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Ricky Pomeroy of Denham Springs; a son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Tammy Gerald of Walker; a sister, Martha Watts of French Settlement; three brothers, Gaston, Russell, and Kelly Gerald; six grandchildren, Dylan and Cody Gerald, Matthew Ensminger, Brandon and Jason Ashfore, and Alisha Pomeroy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Cynthia Martin Gerald; a sister, Janice Muriel; and three brothers, Brock, Wilton, and Lavell Gerald.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home today from 5-9 p.m. and will continue tomorrow from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

A funeral service will be held tomorrow at Crain Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Efferson and the Rev. Richard Magee officiating.

interment will be at Gerald Cemetery in Pine.

David Edward Hall

(Died August 16, 2000)

BOGALUSA - David Edward Hall, 40, a resident of Bogalusa, died yesterday at 7:50 p.m. in Bogalusa. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, and a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University with a degree in business management.

He is survived by a son, David Edward Hall II; a friend, Cora Webb of Bogalusa; mother, Jo Ann Hall of Bogalusa; a brother and sister-in-law, Ricky Cooper (Sandra) Hall of Bogalusa; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda H. (Chad) Lee of Hammond; a grandfather, Arnold (Marion) Strain of Covington; aunts, Brenda Lanier and Ruth S. Prats, both of Abita Springs; god parents, Clifton Simoneaux of Franklinton and Ruth S. Prats of Abita Springs; friends, Dennis Owen of Bogalusa, Missy Amari of New Orleans, Lance Boyd of Bogalusa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cooper L. Hall; and grandmothers, Rosa Lay and Etta Strain.

Visitation will be today at noon at Annunciation Catholic Church. Deacon Chuck Hartman officiating at a memorial service to be held 2 p.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church.

interment will be at Hillview Memorial Gardens at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Hospice of St. Tammany at 1202 South Tlyer in Covington, LA 70433.

Mary Reeves Rimes

(Died August 17, 2000)

LAUREL, MS - Mary R. Rimes, 84, a resident of 8th Avenue in Laurel, MS and a retiree of J.C. Penney Company in Laurel died today at 6:22 a.m. in Leake Memorial Hospital in Carthage, MS.

She is survived by a son, Charles (Linda) Rimes of Bogalusa; daughters, June Thaggard of Ridgeland, MS and Gayle Elmer of Laurel, MS; grandchildren, Kimby Rimes Mullett of Bush, Dr. Greg Thaggard and Dr. Stacy Thaggard of Meridian, MS, Rodney Elmer and Billy D. Ishee Jr. of Laurel, MS; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, E.L. Reeves of Tylertown; and sisters, Altha Holmes of Brookhaven, MS and Dorothy Surratte of Jackson , TN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. Rimes; parents, Cicero Z. and Narcissa Stogner Reeves; brothers, Howard and Noel Reeves; sisters Eva Mitchell, Adlee Engerran, and Katherine Bosso.

Visitation will be today from 5-9 p.m. and will continue tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A funeral service will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. interment will follow in Tylertown Cemetery.

Tommie Lee "Mama Tee" Peters Wilbert

(Died August 15, 2000)

BOGALUSA - Tommie Lee "Mama Tee" Peters Wilbert, 90, a resident of Second Avenue in Bogalusa died Tuesday in Bogalusa Community Medical Center.

She is survived by three sons, Minister L.B. (Phyllis) Jackson of Bogalusa with whom she lived, L.S. (Jackie) Jackson of Bogalusa, and Vernell (Rochelle) Wilbert of Houston, TX; a daughter, Patricia Conerly of Bogalusa; a brother, L.C. Peters of Cincinnati, OH; three sisters, Missionary Bertha Simmons of Bogalusa, Ethel Brown of Bogalusa, and Lucille Osby of New Orleans; a godchild, Estelle Weary of Riloto, CA; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six nephews; and numerous nieces and great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Jackson ; four brothers, Stennis Peters, Leon Peters, Oliver Osby, and Velimon Peters; and a sister, Annie Ruth Parker.

Visitation will be Sunday at Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Bogalusa from 2-6 p.m. with family hour from 6-7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of God in Christ in Bogalusa with Bishop H.E. Quiller Jr. officiating.

interment will be in Bogalusa Cemetery.

James Devon Mitchell

(Died August 18, 2000)

BOGALUSA - James Devon Mitchell, 94, a native of Hackley and long time resident of Bogalusa died Friday at his home in Bogalusa.

Survivors include his wife, Evie Branch Mitchell of Bogalusa; a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Murphy Williams; four grandchildren, Charlotte and her husband John Sances of Baton Rouge, Deidre and her husband John Dickens of Suffolk, VA., Murphy Reese Williams III and his wife Melody of Holden, LA; and the Rev. Eric Devon Williams and his wife Lisa of Montpelier, LA; 10 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Winnie Pope Mitchell and James Harvey Mitchell; two sisters, Azalea Mitchell Sticker and Annie Mitchell North.

The funeral service will be in the chapel of Brown-McGehee Funeral Home today at 3 p.m. with Rev. Eric Devon Williams officiating.

interment will follow in Crain Cemetery at Stateline, LA.

Visitation is today from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Pall bearers will be John V. Sances, Reese Williams, Mitchell Sances, Don Knight, Billy Knight and Fred Bath.

Vergie E. Magee Smith

(Died August 19, 2000)

FRANKLINTON - Vergie E. Magee Smith, 77, a resident of Franklinton died yesterday at her residence. She was a member of Bogue Chitto Baptist Church at Mt. Hermon.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Rita Magee of Franklinton; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and David Murray of Zachary; two step-sons and spouses, Walter W and Diane Smith of Baton Rouge and Claude and Betty Smith of Ponchatoula; a step-daughter and spouse, Martha and Pete Alford of Kentwood; a brother, Will Ervin of Tylertown; five grandchildren, one great grandchild and nine step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Claude A. Magee Jr. and her second husband Wilson E. Smith.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. tomorrow.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. David Murray and the Rev. Ed Delancey officiating.

Burial will be in the Bickham Cemetery.

Donations in Smith’s memory may be made to Hospice of St. Tammany, 1202 S. Tyler Street, Covington, La., 70433.

Tommie Lee "Momma Tee" Peters Wilbert

(Died August 15, 2000)

BOGALUSA - Tommie Lee "Momma Tee" Peters Wilbert, 90, a resident of Second Avenue in Bogalusa died Tuesday in Bogalusa Community Medical Center.

Claude Robinson

(Died August 18, 2000)

BOGALUSA -- Claude Robinson, 69, a former resident of Varnado, died Friday in Clinton, La.

Robinson was the third child born to the late Lena and Sylvester Robinson. He spent his early childhood in Varnado.

He is survived by one daughter, Dannet Robinson of Las Vegas; two grandchildren from Las Vegas and four sisters, Pauline Torrence of Bogalusa, Geraldine (Freddie) Jefferson of Angie, Genvia Foster of Oakland, Ca. and Earnestine (David) Davis of McComb.

Visitation will be held at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa today from 2:30- 7 p.m.

The funeral services will take place in the parlor of the funeral home tomorrow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bruce Brown officiating.

interment will follow in Robinson Cemetery in Varnado.

Dr. John L. Pepe

SHREVEPORT, LA - Dr. John L. Pepe, 84, a former resident of Bogalusa who was presently residing in Shreveport, died Sunday in Willis-Knighton Pierremont Hospital in Shreveport.

He is survived by his wife, Gertie S. Pepe of Shreveport; four sisters, Mary P. Drouant of New Orleans, Lena P. Gonzalas of Bogalusa, Dora P. Hudson of Baton Rouge, and Joyce Ann P. Laughlin of Metairie; two brothers, Angelo Pepe and Charles Pepe both of Bogalusa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George E. and Jenny Pepe.

Visitation will be today at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 5:30-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home Chapel with Father Lawrence Phelps officiating.

Entombment will follow at Sanctuary of Peace Mausoleum in Ponemah Cemetery. Pallbearers are George Duncan Jr., John Duncan, Wilton Dunaway, Raymond Gonzales Jr., Charles M. Pepe, and George Drouant.
