Peggy Ann Sword, 62: As of Friday, September 12, 2008, Peggy Ann Sword is dancing in the arms of Jesus.

Peggy departed this life in the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana .

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2008 at 2:00PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home of DeRidder, LA. There will be no visitation and no burial services.

Survivors included her loving husband: Bruce Sword of Merryville, LA

1 Son: James Edward Krull, Jr. of Florida

1 Sister: Pinky Betts of Etna, PA

Peggy was a second mother to Susan, Lyn, Clay and David. She is also survived by a very special friend, Mary Beane of Merryville, LA. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Bobby Ray Cooper

Bobby Ray Cooper, 66 of Merryville, LA departed this life on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder, LA.

Visitation will begin on Sunday, September 7, 2008 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA. The service will begin Monday, September 8, 2008 at 10:00 am at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder, LA with the Revs. Guy Snyder and Glen Burks officiating.

Mother: Frankie Smith of DeRidder, LA; Wife: Sue Cooper of Merryville, LA; Son: Shannon Ray Cooper of Las Vegas, NV; Brothers: John Roy Cooper of DeRidder, LA; Brad Smith of DeRidder, LA; Jeff Smith of DeRidder, LA; Dennis Cooper of California; Mike Cooper of California and Danny Cooper of DeRidder, LA; Sisters: Marilyn Cooper of California; Barbara Cooper of DeRidder, LA and Kathy Smith of DeRidder, LA; 6 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his daughter, Mashelle Cooper.

Ora R. Anderson Dion

Ora R. Anderson Dion, 92 of DeRidder, Louisiana departed this life on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at her residence in DeRidder, LA. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2008 from 5pm – 9pm at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder and from 12 pm until service time Monday, September 8, 2008 at 2:00 PM in Myers Colonial Funeral Home with the Revs. George Glass and Rev. James Glass officiating. Burial will be in Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana .

Survivors include a Son: George K. Dion of DeRidder, Louisiana ;2 Brothers: Harry Anderson of DeRidder and Homer Anderson of DeRidder; 1 Sister: Naomi Glass of DeRidder; 3 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren.

Ms. Dion was preceded in death by her husband: George O. Dion and by her daughter: Sable Davis.

Eleanor S. Snapp

On Tuesday, September 2, 2008, Eleanor S. Snapp, 90, of DeRidder, passed from this life at her residence. Visitation will be held from 5PM – 9PM on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Myers Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder. Funeral Services will be at 3 PM on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the Myers Colonial Funeral Home of DeRidder. Burial will be in Whitaker Cemetery of DeRidder, LA. The Revs. Wayne Kite and Tim Bergen will officiate.

Survivors include:

Sons: Ronnie (Patricia) Snapp of DeRidder, LA and Clyde Snapp of DeRidder, LA; Daughter: Glenna (Jerry) Cooley of DeRidder, LA; Sister: Bernita McLane of New Caney, Texas ; 13 Grandchildren; 23 Great Grandchildren and 9 Great-Great Grandchildren.

Eleanor was preceded in death by:

Husband: M. H. Snapp; Daughter: Bobbie Simpson; Sons: Jim Snapp, Jerry Snapp and Claude Snapp.

Mattie Laura Cochran

Mattie Laura Cochran, 94, passed from this life on October 27, 2008 in DeQuincy Memorial Hospital in DeQuincy, Louisiana .

Visitation will begin on October 27, 2008 in the Green Oak Baptist Church of Merryville, Louisiana beginning at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Green Oak Baptist Church. Burial will be in Meadows Cemetery of Merryville, Louisiana .
Ms. Cochran is survived by her niece, Dorothy "Dottie" Bridges of Merryville, Louisiana as well as many friends.

Don Stewart “D.P.”, son of the late Ed and Ada Stewart, departed this life on Monday, October 13, 2008 at Beth Israel Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Old Cypress Cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana . Mr. Stewart attended both Grambling University and McNeese State University in Louisiana and worked as a longshoreman in New York City. He is survived by the following; Brothers: Wilbon Stewart of Chicago, Illinois and Wyman Stewart (Esther) of Detroit, Michigan; Sisters: Dovie Ambeau of Baton Rouge, Louisiana , Bennie Jones of Chicago, Illinois, and Eddie Ransom (Calava) of DeRidder, Louisiana ; Sister-in-Law: Curlie Stewart of DeRidder, Louisiana ; Brother-in-Law: Leroy Crawford of Gonzales, Louisiana ; As well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church in DeRidder, Louisiana with the Rev. Louis Smith officiating. Burial will be in Beauregard Cemetery, DeRidder, Louisiana .
Survivors included his Wife: Mary Landry of DeRidder, Louisiana ; Sons: Charlie Guillory (Kimberly) of DeRidder, Louisiana ; Christopher Palmer (Debra) of Leesville, Louisiana ; Gerald Palmer (Karen) of Lake Charles, Louisiana ; Roy Palmer of DeRidder, Louisiana ; Harold Palmer (Felicia) of Mansfield, Louisiana ; Charles Jones of Morgan City, Louisiana ; Pythis Bradley of Lake Charles, Louisiana ; Michael Benard of DeRidder, Louisiana ; Daughter: Shannon Mark of DeRidder, Louisiana ; Sister: Dorothy Franks (Percy) of Lake Charles, Louisiana . Jennifer Jackson

Jennifer Kay Jackson , 41, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 in her residence.

She was a native in Chicago, Ill. and a resident of DeQuincy, for 17 years.

Survivors include her mother Elizabeth J. Jackson of DeQuincy; daughters, Christy Lee Robinette of Westlake, Jeri Ann O'Bannon of Winnfield, and Helen Jackson of DeQuincy; brothers, Jeff Jackson and Jimmy Jackson , both of Freeport, Tex; sisters, Jacquie Parker and Janelle Doyle, both of DeQuincy, Jana Jackson of Jasper, Tex. and Janice Birgance of Brazoria, Tex.; and three grandchildren.

Her funeral was held Saturday, June 21 at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Rev. Eddie Hoosier officiated. Burial was in Perkins Cemetery in DeQuincy under the direction of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home of DeQuincy.

Mary Kroger

Mary “Lupe” Kroger, 90,of DeQuincy died at her residence on Saturday, June 21, 2008.

She was born in Mexico. In 1937, she arrived in DeQuincy as the wife of Peter Henry Kroger. She made her home here for the rest of her life. She had been an active member in the Home Demonstration Club and Cooley Harmony Circle.

She is survived by her sons, Milan and wife Charlotte of Austin, Tex., Peter and wife Irene of San Antonio, Tex., Edward and wife Karen and Henry and wife Peggy, all of DeQuincy; a daughter, Josephine and husband Allen Baker of Burleson, Tex.; a daughter-in-law, Vickie Kroger of DeQuincy; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maria Louisa of Mexico.

Preceding her in death were her husband; three brothers; and one son, Albert William Kroger.
Her funeral was held Tuesday, June 24, in the chapel of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy.

Rachel Perkins

Rachel Hellen Perkins, 80, of DeQuincy, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008, in the local hospital.

A native of Laurel, Miss., she moved to DeQuincy in 1945. She graduated from DeQuincy High School in 1946. She was a member of First Baptist Church, DeQuincy where she was involved in contact Study Club and WMU.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. William and Annie Hellen Sr.; husband, Stanley E. Perkins; stepmother, L. C. Hellen; granddaughter, Jill Perkins Jones; and three sisters and one brother.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Toni Dowers and husband Ike of Sulphur; one son, Keith E. Perkins and wife Joy of DeQuincy; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 20, at First Baptist Church of DeQuincy. The Revs. Rob Walls and Dale Welch officiated. interment was in Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home of DeQuincy.

Thomas Powers

Thomas L. "Guts" Powers, 61, a native of DeQuincy, and a resident of Starks, died Sunday, June 22, 2008, at Calcasieu Cameron Hospital in Sulphur. He was a faithful member of Lunita Pentecostal Church for over 27 years where he served as an usher and a board member.

He enjoyed gardening, poetry and singing. "Guts" had a very caring spirit towards others and would often do what ever he could to be a blessing to them.

He has a very deep love and respect for the ministry and did his absolute best to be a blessing to his Pastor.

"Guts" was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and father-in-law and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him and each life that he touched in his own special way.

He was the son of the late Thomas Powers and the late Gracie Bankins Powers.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 28 years, Melba Powers of Starks; five daughters, Theresa Hatchell and husband Cody of Dequincy, Shelly Hyatt of Sugartown, Angela Leger and husband Earl of Starks, Sondra Fruge and husband Shawn of Singer, Belinda Kay Johnson and husband John of Vinton; two sisters, Zelda "Toud" Bertrand of Sulphur and Carolyn "Short Cake" Powers of Dequincy; one brother, Charles "Bones" Powers and wife JoAnn of Rye, Colo. and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James "Woody" Powers and Frank "Punkin" Powers.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, at Lunita Pentecostal Church. Funeral service will be at Lunita Pentecostal Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, with the Rev. Chris Billiot and Bro. Harry Methvin officiating. interment will be at Miller Cemetery in Starks.

Christensen Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Norman Coleman

Norman Coleman, 80, of Sulphur, died Tuesday, June 17, 2008, in a local hospital.

He was a native of Fields and had been a resident of the Sulphur and Lake Charles area for 60 years. He was a U. S. Navy veteran and was a member of the American Legion and the Sons of the Confederate veterans. He was also a member of Olivet Baptist Church in Sulphur.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Coleman of Sulphur; one son, Keith Coleman and wife Sharon of Lake Charles; one daughter, Cheryl Coleman of Lake Charles and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, T. and Florence Coleman; and his brother, Jack Coleman.

His funeral was held Friday, June 20, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Don Walker officiated. Burial was in Hyatt Cemetery in Fields.

Frances Hendricks

Frances W. Hendricks, 88, of Ragley, died Friday, June 20, 2008, at a local care facility.

She was born in Kentwood. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Independence before moving to Ragley and joining Squyres Methodist Church. She was a member of the Ragley Volunteers for Family and Community. While living in Independence, she was a Pink Lady at the hospital and hosted a weekly religious radio show for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Tirie Hendricks; a son, Thomas Hendricks, both of Ragley; one daughter, Teresa Hendricks Chambers of Houston; two sisters, Eugenia Evans of Independence and Alice Arnold of New Orleans; and two grandchildren.

Her funeral was held Tuesday, June 24, in Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. The Rev. Juan Huertas officiated. Graveside services will held Wednesday, June 25, at 2 p.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery in Kentwood.

Anner Jones

Anner Lee Jones, 79, of DeQuincy died Monday, June 16, 2008 in her residence.

She was a native of Anacoco and lived in Houston and DeQuincy most of her life. She was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Connie (Ronald) Sample, Carla (Robert) McKey, both of DeQuincy, and June Richmond of Houston; one son, Harold Jones of Houston; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

Her funeral service was held Saturday, June 21, in Evergreen Baptist Church. The Rev. James Harris officiated. Burial was in the Veterans Administration Cemetery in Houston.
