Walter Boudreaux

Walter Harold Boudreaux, 47, a native and resident of Sulphur, died in his home Monday, June 14, 2010.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Christensen Funeral Home of DeQuincy.

Dixie Crelin

Dixie Baye Jacobs Crelin, born Oct. 23, 1927 at DeQuincy to Gordie E. and Ruth E. Dahlquist Jacobs, departed this life from Lakewood Quarters in Baton Rouge on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the age of 82.

Celebration of Life services were held Saturday, June 12, at Resthaven Funeral Home in Baton Rouge at 11 a.m. with Rev. Al Young officiating. Burial was at 11:45 a.m. Monday, June 14, at Houston National Cemetery.

Dixie started school at Oretta, and moved back to DeQuincy to attend third grade. She was the youngest girl in the graduating class of 1944 from DeQuincy High School ranking in the top percentage of the class.

Working for W. W. Bishop and the J. E. McNamaras prepared her for years of working for Joske’s in San Antonio.

Dixie, accompanied by her parents, met Joseph Francis Crelin in New Orleans April 4, 1945 and they were married at Coliseum Baptist Church. The newlyweds left for Florida to make their first home as Joe was stationed at an Air Force base there.

As Joe made the U. S. Air Force his career, Dixie made many new homes, some of which sere in San Angelo, Tex., Las Vegas, Nev., Washington , D.C., Panama Canal Zone, England, and San Antonio, Tex.s, where Joe retired.

Everywhere Dixie went she made friends many of whom she kept in touch with through the years.

Dixie moved to Baton Rouge in 1978 and went to work for the State of Louisiana in the Department of Revenue from which she retired after having served as an auditor.

She befriended many young people, was a faithful prayer warrior, and worked in various church libraries. Faithful in worship of her Savior and Lord, serving him in so many ways under his leadership, she was of the Baptist faith.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Gordy Jacobs, Jr.

Left to cherish her memory are three sisters, Betty Phillips and Mary Ellen Goepfert of Baton Rouge, Pauline Shirley and husband Huey of DeQuincy; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Damon Ritter

Damon Miles "Tuffy" Ritter, 47, a native of Sulphur, and resident of Dequincy, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Christus St. Patrick in Lake Charles. He was a Christian by faith.

Damon loved music and was quite talented in whatever stringed instrument he had. He loved paint and body work and spending time outdoors. He loved spending time with his family, especially his brother Rod.

He was the son of the late Kinsey Ritter and Betty Miller Lee and her husband, Tommy of Opelousas.

He is also survived by his wife, Helen "Sissy" Ritter of DeQuincy; one daughter, Natocha Ritter of Dequincy; one sister, Melissa Gail Steffan and husband, Craig of Mamou; one brother, Roderick "Rod" Ritter of Lake Charles; and nephew, Texster Ritter of Mamou.

The family received friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 12, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 13, at Christensen Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held at Christensen Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 13. The Rev. Wayne Cardwell officiated. interment was in Cole Cemetery in Ragley.

Mistee Campbell

Mistee Dawn Campbell, 39, of Stark Passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011, in Starks.

Visitation was held Friday, June 24 from 5-10 p.m. and resumed on Saturday, June 25, from 9 a.m. until time of service at Calvary Apostolic Church in Starks.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 25, at Calvary Apostolic Church. Revs. Jeremy Shields and H. R. Bradford officiated. interment was in Miller Annex Cemetery in Starks.

Mistee was a loving, giving and caring lady who gave selflessly to others. She took in and raised children who needed love and support. She was uplifting to everyone she met.

Her family and church family were her life. She was a member of Calvary Apostolic Church for 18 years and served as a Sunday School Teacher and helped at Vacation Bible School. She worked for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Dept. for 3 years.

She is survived by her husband, Keith Campbell of Starks; parents, James and Kathleen Greer; son, Colton James Campbell; daughter, Reagan Mott, all of Starks; goddaughter, Gracie Broussard of Sulphur; grandfather, David Sabins of Starks; sisters, Shannon Weeks and husband Darren of Sulphur, and Tisha Autrey and husband Mark of Orange, Tex.; nephews, Dakota Weeks, Waylen Weeks and Trenton Pirtle; nieces, Ashton Pirtle, Victoria Wilt and Madison Autrey, and a host of other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Bertie Sabins; grandfather, Fred Smith; grandmother, Gladys Greer; grandfather, Raymond Greer.

Olevia Brim

Olevia Tyler Brim, 61, of DeQuincy died Saturday, June 25, 2011 in a local hospital.

She was born in Lafayette and lived in Eunice before moving to DeQuincy. She was a member of First Church of God in Christ in DeQuincy. She was a nurse’s aid, home provider, usher and also worked with a church daycare in DeQuincy.

Mrs. Brim was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Grady Tyler, Sr. and Lizzie Mae Hayes Tyler; husband, Melvin Brim, Sr.; one sister; two brothers; and one grandson, Andrew Louis Tyler.

Survivors include her sons, Donald Ray Tyler of DeQuincy, Ronald Tyler of Beaumont and Telvin Brim of DeQuincy; daughter, Lizzie Marie Tyler of DeQuincy; sister, Cynthia M. Hayes of Eunice; brothers Louis Tyler, Jr. of Eunice, Benjamin Tyler of Houston, Dr. Matthew Tyler of Mauston, Wis.; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Her funeral will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 2, at First Church of God In Christ under the direction of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home. Pastor Clifton David will officiate. Burial will be in Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Saturday in the church beginning at 9 a.m

Mavis Broussard

Mavis Marie Maddox Broussard, 60, a native of DeQuincy and resident of Sulphur, died Monday, June 27 at St. Patrick’s Hospital.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 30 from 5-9 p.m. and Friday, July 1, from 9-10 a.m. at Christensen Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. at Christensen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery.

Louis Clark

Louis "T-Bo" Clark, 72, a native of Singer and resident of DeQuincy, died Friday, July 8, 2011, at Christus St. Patrick in Lake Charles. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #150 of Aberdeen, Scotland.

He will forever be remembered as a hard working man who loved his children and grandchildren. He never met a stranger and always loved helping people. He loved fishing and watching his grandchildren play sports.

He was the son of the late Herman Clark and the late Arley Droddy Clark.

He is survived by one daughter, Samantha Holloway of Mauriceville, Tex.; two sons, Herman Clark of DeQuincy and Tony Clark and wife Shonda of Singer; and one stepsister, Nelda Faye Sites of San Marcos, Tex.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Marlon Taylor ; one daughter, Heather Denise Clark; one brother, Roy Lee Clark; and one sister, Leota Perkins.

Funeral services were held at Singer United Pentecostal Church at 2 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2011 with Rev. Donnis Ashworth, Rev. Samuel Ashworth and Rev. Jerry Hext officiating. interment was at Good Hope Cemetery in Singer.

Darlene Nelson

Darlene Adams Nelson, 72, of DeQuincy died Friday, June 24, 2011.

She was born in Deweyville, Tex. She was a lifelong member of Bethel AME Church. She was a Headstart teacher for Calcasieu Parish in DeQuincy for 44 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Michelle Adams (Ton) Brady of Oakdale; one sister, Charlene Pryer of Baton Rouge; three granddaughters; one great-grandson; and 12 stepchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Nelson; parents, Griffin Adams Jr. and Marie Washington Adams; one daughter, Sophia Cole; one brother, Darrell Adams; and one sister, Veronica Adams.

Her funeral was held Wednesday, June 29, at Bethel AME Church. Pastors Cynthia Jones and James Keller officiated. Burial was in Community Cemetery under the direction of James Funeral Home.

Christopher Cooley

Christopher "Pasa" Earl Cooley, 36, a native of Vinton and a resident of DeQuincy, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at his residence in DeQuincy. He was a Pentecostal by faith.

Christopher will forever be remembered as a man who loved life and loved to laugh. He was an arrowhead collector and loved camping and hunting.

He was the son of the late Rodney Cooley and Michigo "Carolyn" Clark Cooley of DeQuincy.

He is survived by his two brothers, Marlon D. Cooley and wife Christina of Sherman, Tex. and Heath C. Cooley and wife Stormy of Ragley. He is also survived my many friends and extended family.

The family received friends from 5-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, and from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Calvary Pentecostal Church.

Funeral services were held at Calvary Pentecostal Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, with the Rev. Marvin Hicks and the Rev. Larry J. Talent officiating. interment was at Hagar Cemetery in Ragley.

Flora Crise

Flora Jane Whitehair Crise, 84, Passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011 in Tioga. She was born on Nov. 12, 1926 in Butler, Pennsylvania , a daughter of Artie and Bea (Elsey) Whitehair.

Flora Jane graduated from Indiana State Univ. of Pennsylvania as a Registered Nurse and was employed at Butler Memorial Hospital where she met the love of her life, William (Bill) R. Crise. She was a member of Goddard United Methodist Church and Sebastian County, Arkansas Homemakers Club while a resident of Fort Smith, Ark.

After moving to Louisiana , she was a member of DeQuincy United Methodist Church and lived at Stonebridge Assisted Living in Sulphur and later at Tioga Manor in Tioga.

She is survived by two sons, William K. Crise and wife, Jane Ann of Milwaukee, Wis. and Rev. Jerry Crise and wife, Sue of Ball; four grandchildren, Jeff Crise of Monroe, Richard Crise of Ruston, Eddie Crise of Iowa City, Iowa and Angela Crise of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, Adren Whitehair and wife, Louise, of Hundred, W. Va.; two sisters, Nancy Whitehair Herold and Marchie Whitehair, both of Orlando, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 62 years, William R. Crise; sister, Dwella Whitehair Gram; and three brothers, Thomas, Raymond, and Arley Whitehair.

Visitation will be from 12 noon until 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22, followed by a service at the funeral home in West Newton. Burial will be held at West Newton Cemetery, West Newton, Penn. The J. William McCauley Jr. Funeral Home, Inc., West Newton, is handling the arrangements.

Martin Johnson

Martin Johnson , 103, of Starks died at the Cornerstone Hospital Monday, Sept. 12, 2011.

He was a native of Starks. He was at lifelong member of VFW Post 4759 and served in the Army during World War II. He loved sports and was a great fan of the Starks Panthers.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Howard and husband Keith Dale of Starks; four grandchildren, Keitha Brady, Kasey Howard, Kyle Howard, and Kenny Howard; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held at the First Pentecostal Church of Starks on Thursday Sept. 15, from 5-9 p.m.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 16, at 2 p.m. at the church.

Dale Daigle, Sr.

Dale James Daigle, Sr., 72, of Lake Charles died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011 in a local care facility.

Mr. Daigle was born in Lafayette and lived in Lake Charles most of his life. He retired from Jupiter Chemicals as a truck driver.

Survivors include three sons, Timothy Wayne Daigle of Lake Charles, Mark Anthony Daigle and wife Dawn of Lake Charles, and Dale James Daigle, Jr. and wife Amanda of Charleston, S. C.; five daughters, Katherine “Kathie” Veillon and husband Paul of DeQuincy, Debra Woodruff and husband Ricky “Woody” of Middleburg, Fla., Mona Daigle and husband Harold “Poochie” Smith of Lake Charles, Susan Chaline and husband Michael of Hackberry, and Melissa Daigle of South Carolina; two brothers, Alton Daigle, Jr. of Sulphur, and Charles Daigle of Texas ; and a sister, Mildred Puckett of Colorado; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Daigle Leonard; a brother, Patrick Daigle; and his parents, Eva Bertrand and Alton Daigle, Sr.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 19, at Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. Brian King officiated. Following the service, Mr. Daigle was cremated.

Willie Recard, Sr.

Willie Earl (Hall) Recard Sr., 56, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011. He was a life long resident of DeQuincy. He worked at S & I Sawmill for a number of years and Southwestern Graphite as a construction worker in the Asbury Carbon Division.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Hall.

He is survived by his father, Alphonse Hall; wife, Leola Marie Johnson Recard, both of DeQuincy; sons, Marcus (Rose) LeBlanc of Lake Charles, and Willie Earl Recard Jr.; stepdaughter, Sondra (Aaron) Johnson -Carrier, both of DeQuincy; stepson, Loren (Ann) Johnson of San Antonio, Tex; siblings, Linda Joyce Record of Crosby, Tex.; Gwendoalyn (Mark) Harding and Rosemary Mitchell, both of Houston, Tex.; and 12 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Bethel AME Church in DeQuincy with service immediately following. Pastor Cynthia Jones will officiate. Burial will be at Community Cemetery under the direction of James Funeral Home.
