Gordon Tillman

Gordon Royce Tillman, was born July 18, 1936 in Starks and Passed away at his son’s home in Aberdeen Wash., at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Apr. 10, 2012.

He lived most of his life in Starks until the last 8 years.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Tillman Behan; his son, Glenn Tillman; his mother, Tassie Tillman; his father, Owen Tillman; several brothers and sisters; and his wife, Azel Tillman.

He is survived by two daughters, Virginia (Susie) Tillman Griffin of Westlake, and Freda Tillman of Beaumont, Texas ; three sons, Keivien Tillman, of Aberdeen, Wash., Antonio Tillman, Sylacauga, Ala., Charles Tillman, Childersburg, Ala. and the mother of his children, Dorothy Tillman of Texas ; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Apr. 18, at 1 p.m. at First Pentecostal Church of Starks. Family and friends attended visitation before the funeral. Burial was at Miller Cemetery in Starks under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

Birdie Clark

Birdie Lee Clark “Maw Maw”, 87, of DeQuincy, died Friday, July 27, 2012, at Christus St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles. She was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church in Ragley for over 50 years.

She enjoyed cleaning and decorating her home. She also loved taking care of her children and grandchildren. She never wanted to be a bother to anyone. She loved cooking for her family. Some of their favorites were spaghetti, fried chicken, rice dressing and chicken and sausage gumbo.

She was the daughter of the late Valarie Johnson and the late Jeanette (Clark) Johnson .

She is survived by her two daughters, Jenny McDonald and husband Tom of Longville, Marlene Vincent and husband Pogo of Ragley; one son, Wallace Clark Jr. of Ragley; one sister, Nona Romero of Morgan City; one brother, Carlton Johnson of Krotz Springs; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wallace Clark Sr.; her daughter, Barbara Jean Barrow; brother, Wesley Johnson ; three sisters, Lilian Cafro, Evelyn Vilin, Eula Lombas.

The family received friends from 3 to 10 p.m. Sunday, July 29, at Christensen Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday, July 30, at Faith Baptist Church in Ragley.

Funeral service was held at Faith Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30. Rev. Bill Smith and Bro. Ron Fox officiated. interment was at Hagar Cemetery in Ragley.

Mary Farque

Mary Valma "Vee" Farque, 93, of DeQuincy Passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2012 in Westwood Manor Nursing Home.

Miss Farque was a native of DeQuincy and resident of DeRidder. She was a life-long member of First Baptist Church of DeQuincy. She served in the choir and taught Sunday school for over 35 years. Mrs. Farque was known by many through her employment at Nichol's Department Store for many years.

Survivors include her niece, Barbara Bridges of DeRidder.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jennings Farque and Rae Farque; two sisters, Mildred Farque and Billie Wilson.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug 1, from 10 a.m. until service time at First Baptist Church of DeQuincy. Her funeral will be on Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of DeQuincy. Rev. Rob Walls will officiate. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery under the direction of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of DeQuincy or a charity of your choice.

Rosie Tinsley

Rosie Lee “Bobbie” Tinsley, 67, of DeQuincy passed from this life on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 in Lake Charles.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Denver Roy Tinsley; daughters, Sandy Wilkerson and husband Bubba and Carolyn Clark and husband Brad; brother, Clayton Doyle and wife Ruby, all of DeQuincy. She is survived by her grandchildren, James Wilkerson III and wife Emily of Shreveport, Arlene Wilkerson of Lake Charles, and Christopher Clark of DeQuincy; great-grandchildren, James Wilkerson IV and Catherine Wilkerson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosie and Acie Doyle and sister, Louise Daigle.

Visitation was held Friday, July 20, at Hargrove Bible Baptist Church in DeQuincy from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 21, at 10 a.m. also at Hargrove Bible Baptist Church. Burial followed at Good Hope Cemetery in Singer. Bro. Paul Nugent officiated.

Funeral services were under the direction of Myers-Colonial Funeral Home in DeRidder.

Aileen Nugent

Visitation for Aileen Sanders Nugent, 84, will be held on Friday Aug. 3, 2012 after 5 until 8 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.

Mrs. Nugent was born in Dry Creek on Sept. 17, 1927 to the union of Pamal E. and Ada Greene Sanders and passed from this life on Sunday morning July 29, 2912 at Grace Home after an extended illness.

She was a retired teacher with Rapides Parish School System, having taught at Central, Pineville High, Tioga Junior High and Louisiana College. She was a resident of Pineville and held a degree of Masters plus Thirty. She was a member of Kingsville Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Dayson O. Nugent

She is survived by her children, Dewain Nugent, Paula Walker and husband Jeff, Rodney H. Nugent, Venson L. Nugent and wife Laurie; her brother Lynwood Sanders; grandchildren, Gabriel Walker, Isabella Walker and Gabriel Rutter.

In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Louisiana College the Ada G. Sanders Scholarship Fund.

Albert Blanchette

Albert Joseph (A. J.) Blanchette, 78, of Lake Charles, died on Thursday, July 26, 2012 in a local hospital.

Mr. Blanchette served in the United States Army. He worked for the Lake Charles Fire Department for 34 years as an Assistant Fire Chief. Mr. Blanchette was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Helena J. Blanchette of Lake Charles; one son, James Marlin Blanchette and his wife Maleia of DeQuincy; one daughter, Twilla Blanchette Fontenot and husband Johnny of Heath, Texas ; two stepsons, James Gregory Manuel and wife Jill of Grand Lake, and Richard Bagley and wife Annette of Westlake; three stepdaughters, Donna Bagley Tanner and husband David of Westlake, Kitty (Connie) Bruns and husband Richard of Lake Charles and Renee Arabie and husband Hayward of Fenton; one sister Margaret Blanchette LeBlanc of Lake Charles; 21 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Cleona Blanchette; one brother; and two sisters.

His funeral was held on Tuesday, July 31, at Christ the King Catholic Church. Father Wayne LeBleu was the celebrant. Burial was in Consolata Cemetery.

Frances Adcock

Frances Elizabeth Adcock, 91, of Beaumont, Texas , Passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Harbor Hospice.

Frances was born July 5, 1921 in Manhattan, New York to the late Raymond and Manor Fitzgerald.

Frances taught 8th grade English and History for 20 years in De Quincy. She was a loving daughter, wife and mother.

Frances was preceded in death by her loving husband, Cecil Adcock; and younger sister, Kathleen Alexander.

She is survived by her daughters, Manor Cavaliere and husband Frank, Patricia De Pauw, who was married to Craig De Pauw, now deceased; grandchildren, Clay Cavaliere and wife Tiffany, Courtney Cavaliere, Carrie Cavaliere, Robyn Yakush and husband Brandon, Christopher De Pauw and wife Megumi; great-grandchildren, Rowan and Emalyn Yakush; and brother, James Fitzgerald.

A gathering of family and friends was held on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Services began at 12:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Wanda Foreman

Wanda Lee “Dot” Foreman, 65, of Ragley and Iowa, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012 in a local hospital.

Mrs. Foreman was born in Lake Charles. She was a graduate of Westlake High School and studied at McNeese University. Wanda was employed for many years at The Flower Shop as a florist.

She is survived by her husband, John Foreman of Ragley and Iowa; daughters, Rachel Foreman of California and Robin Vincent of Iowa; brothers, Bobbie McDonald and Tommy McDonald of Houston, Texas ; sister, Marjorie VanFossen of Laredo, Texas and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Tennie Bell Lavergne McDonald; and one brother.

A memorial service was held at Johnson & Brown Funeral Home, Iowa on Monday, Aug. 13, with Rev. David DeWitt officiating. Cremation followed the service.

Eva Mathews

A funeral service celebrating the life of Eva Leona Mathews will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of DeQuincy.

Officiating will be Rev. Rob Walls. Internment will follow at the Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

Eva was born Jan. 25, 1922 to the late Will Fitchue and Edith Christian. She entered into the glorious gates of Heaven and the open arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Mathews was a homemaker all her life. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. After her health started to decline, she loved sitting in her chair while listening to her "Papa" play the piano even sometimes singing along with the music.

Preceding Eva in death was her loving husband of almost 50 years, Frank S. Mathews; one brother; and two sisters.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, DeAnne Patrick and husband Doug, and Carolyn Gandy and husband Bruce, all of Many; one son, Scotty Mathews and wife Jackie of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Tim Fluitt and wife Karen of Hornbeck, Jason Fluitt and wife Raygan of Many, Matt and Scott Gandy of Longview Texas , Taylor Mathews of New Orleans, Spencer Mathews and wife Chelsea of Shreveport and Madison Mathews of Baton Rouge; great-grandchildren, Patrick Fluitt and wife Katie of Many, Victoria Fluitt of Hornbeck, Belle, Neely and Amelia Anne Fluitt of Many, Jax Gandy of Longview, Texas and Nikki Holiday of DeRidder; along with several nieces and nephews.

Linda Riley

Linda Wynette "Net" Bushnell Riley, 33, of DeQuincy, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital in Sulphur. She was a Pentecostal by Faith.

She was the daughter of Leonard Bushnell and his wife Katherine and Betty (Hext) Royer, all of DeQuincy.

She is also survived by: two daughters, Faith "Lexi" Flack and Brittany Danielle Bushnell, both of DeQuincy; three sons, Jaylin Love, Tekay Naquin and Joshua Stack, all of DeQuincy; two sisters, Theresa Bushnell and Denise Courville, both of DeQuincy; three brothers, Jim Bushnell and wife Sarah of Sulphur, Johnny Bushnell and Albert Bushnell and wife Julie, all of DeQuincy.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Anthony Jackson .

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2012 at Christensen Funeral Home. Visitation will resume from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at First Apostolic Church in DeQuincy.

Funeral service will be at First Apostolic Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, with the Rev. Charles Braneff officiating. interment will be at Masonic Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Fred Monk

Funeral services for Fred Lee Monk were held Tuesday, Aug. 14, in Oakdale Bible Baptist Church with Revs. Paul Nugent and Elden Mayo officiating. interment followed in Cryer Cemetery under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.

Mr. Monk, 75, of Oakdale died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012 at his residence.

He worked for J. C. Milney Construction Company for 17 years, building mausoleums all over the country and was the longtime owner of Fred Monk Vaults.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Sallie Monk; two brothers, David Monk and William “Bill” Monk; three sisters, Mary Roddy, Artie Mae Jeansonne and Judy Bryant.

Survivors include his wife, Violet Monk of Oakdale; two sons, Ricky Monk and wife, Tammy of Elizabeth and Brent Monk and wife, Thalesia of Singer; one daughter, Gwen Monk Richmond and husband, Craig of Oakdale; two brothers, Willie F. Monk and wife, Mildred of Oakdale and L. B. Monk and wife, Beatrice of Sulphur; four sisters, Nellie Jordan and husband, Nelson of Oakdale, Dorothy Clover of Alexandria, Charity Monk of Oakdale, Linda Nugent and husband, Paul of DeQuincy; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Isaac Thompson

Isaac McCoy Thompson, 92, of DeQuincy, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012 at his residence.

He was Pentecostal by faith. He enjoyed deer hunting, working, mowing his grass and working in his yard. He will be remembered as being a strong willed man and very generous.

He was the son of the late David Thompson and the late Lula (Clifton) Thompson.

He is survived by one daughter, Evie Tanner of Conroe, Texas ; three sons, Isaac "Cobby" Thompson of DeQuincy, Charlie Thompson and wife Mary Lou of DeQuincy, and Jimmy Thompson and wife Mary Lou of DeQuincy; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 72 years, June Irene (Rigmaiden) Thompson; two grandsons, Colton and Cevin Thompson; three great-grandchildren, Daryl Thompson, Luke Thompson and Tracy Thompson; two brothers, David Thompson and Fred Lehman; five sisters, Lena Higgins, Ethel Lehman, Annie Starkey, Gladys Lehman and Lessie English.

Visitation was held Thursday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Christensen Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 9, at 2 p.m. at Christensen Funeral Home. Rev. T. D. Cardwell officiated. interment was at Perkins Cemetery in DeQuincy.
