Funeral services for Mrs. Flora D. Timmons Luke will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. John Cole officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Community Cemetery in Dubberly under the direction of Kennon and Sons Funeral Home.
Mrs. Luke, a native of Webster Parish, Passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, in Minden. She was born Dec. 17, 1934.
She is survived by her daughter, Geraldine Timmons of Minden; two sons, Donald Ray Timmons and Anthony "Red" Timmons, both of Minden; one sister, Ray Lee Collins of Houston, Texas ; one brother, L.P. Timmons of Houston; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.Monday, November 12

D.R. Addy
Funeral services for Mr. D.R. "Buck" Addy, 61, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Lynn Malone officiating. Burial followed at Pease Chapel Cemetery in Haughton.
Mr. Addy, a native of Bossier City and a resident of Minden, Passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, in Shreveport. He was a crew leader for Fibrebond Corporation and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, as well as a Baptist.
He is survived by his sons, Ricky L. "Wacky" Addy and wife, Teresa of Lewisville, Texas ; Bucky "Moose" Ray Addy of Beeville, Texas ; daughter, Vickie "Poopey" Sue Geeslin and husband Alvie of Joshua, Texas ; two sisters, one half-brother, six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers were Ricky L. Addy, Mike Loftin, Alvie Geeslin, Dan Segale, Tom Shirey and Bobbie Davis.

Benjamin Earle Cooke Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Benjamin Earle Cooke Jr., will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at First United Methodist Church in Minden with the Rev. Ryan Horton officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. today, Nov. 12, at the funeral home.
Mr. Cooke, a native of Minden, Passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, after a valiant fight with cancer. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Minden. He graduated from Minden High School and Louisiana Tech University. After graduation, he attended Northwestern University in Chicago, Ill., and obtained his masters from Louisiana State University in January 1948. He was asked to return to Minden to become the director of the Minden High School Choir and the music educator for grades one-12. He retired from this position in 1978, after 30 years of service to Webster Parish schools.
Serving in the armed forces of World War II as assistant to the chaplain, he traveled Europe sharing his love of music with the troops in as many as 28 worship services daily.
Mr. Cooke served the Lord faithfully for 50 years as the choral director for First United Methodist Church. One of his highest tributes was being honored by the church on Oct. 14, 2001, for his dedication. Recognized by the governor of Louisiana , choir members, and former students, they gave testimony both professionally and personally about his devotion to all who knew him.
As a member of the Piano Technician's Guild for 35 years, he served Minden and the surrounding areas as a piano technician. Holding many offices including local president, he traveled throughout North America and the state of Louisiana attending conventions to represent his local chapter and further his studies. He was also a member of the American Legion for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Elizabeth Perritt Cooke; two daughters, Jan Williams and husband Greg and Cathy Tomlinson and husband Ralph; six granddaughters, Jenny, Ashley, and McKenzie Williams and Rachel, Lauren and Connor Tomlinson; and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Perritt; and a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Ben Craton, Donald Hinton, Henry Lester, A.G. "Ike" Kirkikis, Ralph Tomlinson, Greg Williams, Rod Gann and Roy Hurley. Honorary pallbearers will be B.D. Gleason, Cliff Love, David Love, Paul Woodard, members of the FUMC Chancel Choir and the Piano Technician's Guild.
Memorials may be made to the Chancel Choir Room Fund, at FUMC Minden, 903 Broadway, Minden, La., 71055.

James Douglas Stewart
Funeral services for Mr. James Douglas Stewart, 81, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at First Baptist Church Gibsland with the Rev. Lamar Skinner officiating and assisted by Dr. Richard May. Burial followed at Mount Lebanon Cemetery.
Mr. Stewart, a resident of Gibsland, Passed away Friday, Nov. 9. He was born Feb. 17, 1920, and was a resident of the Gibsland and Sailes area his entire life. He was retired from his self-owned and operated grocery business. He was a World War II Army Veteran, deacon of First Baptist Church in Gibsland, Lion's Club member, and a board member of the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. He was also a long-term volunteer of the Gibsland Fire Department and serving on the board of the North Bienville Fire District. He was also known for devoting many hours in support of school sports. He was devoted to his family, friends and community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Nathan Stewart and Bertha Page Stewart.
He is surviving by his wife of 55 years, Lois Neal Carter Stewart of Gibsland; one daughter, Annette Smith of Lafayette; one son, James Nathan Stewart of Gibsland; five grandchildren, Amy Smithy, Anna Smith Thaxton and husband Dylan, Curt Stewart, Jackie Stewart and David Covell; two sisters, Elizabeth Tichenor and JoLynn Armstrong; one brother-in-law, Charles Tichenor and two sisters-in-law, Pat Kiheman and Carolyn Winslett.
Pallbearers were Ray Armstrong; Jerry Tichenor; Rob Carter; Bobby Hamm, who are nephews and friends, W.F. Ouzts and John Mark Parnell; Honorary pallbearers were deacons of First Baptist Church; members of the Fellowship Sunday school class and North Bienville Fire Protection District members.

Willie Larkin Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Willie Larkin Jr., 89, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church No. 2 in Rayville with the Rev. Frank Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Rayville under the direction of Miller-Pioneer Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. today, Nov. 6, at the funeral home.
Mr. Larkin, a resident of Minden, Passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, at I.H.S. of Minden. He resided with his daughter, Mary Butler, for about a year during his lengthy illness.
He is survived by four sons, five daughters, and 89 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Monday, November 5

Kenneth Cottrell
Funeral services for Mr. Kenneth Cottrell, 48, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at North Acres Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Strother officiating. Burial followed at Gardens of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Cottrell, a native of Springhill and a resident of Minden, Passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, in Shreveport. He was a production manager for Voith Paper Technician and he loved woodworking, fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Ralph Cottrell Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Carol Foreman Cottrell of Minden; son, Nathan Eric Cottrell and wife Carmen of Minden; daughter, Susan Denise Cottrell of Minden; special grandson, Logan Anthony Cottrell of Minden; mother and father-in-law, George and Aline Williams of Plain Dealing; mother, Wilma Cottrell of Springhill; brothers, William Ralph Cottrell Sr. of Sarepta and Gary Cottrell of Shongaloo; sister, Ronda Thomas of Ruston and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Claude Reeves, Mike Powell, David Glasscock, Jim Dunaway, Wayne Chance and Phil Davis.
Memorials may be donated to North Acres Baptist Church at 1852 Lewisville Road, Minden, La., 71055.

Thelma L. Funke
Rosary services for Thelma L. "Grandma" Funke of Gaylor, Ark., will be held at 7 p.m.. today, Nov. 5, 2001, at Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith, Ark. Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Funke, a resident of Gaylor, Ark., Passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, at her residence. She was the grandmother of Peggy Metzker and a former resident of Minden. She was also an avid bridge player and seamstress.

Eddie V. Morgan
Funeral services for Mr. Eddie V. Morgan, 96, were held at noon Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church in Dubberly with Dr. S. Wade Lewis officiating. Burial followed at Sheppard Street Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home.
Mr. Morgan, a native and resident of Dubberly, Passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, at Minden Medical Center. He was born the oldest of four children to the late John Wesley Morgan and Minnie Ola Alford Morgan of Dubberly.
He was baptized at an early age at Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Arthur G. Thompson and remained a faithful member until his passing. He graduated from Webster Parish Training School. He also completed Teacher's Training in Webster Parish. Morgan taught school for several years in the Webster Parish School System. He was a World War II veteran and served his country for five years. He received many medals of honor for his courageous service in the United States Army. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #0534.
He was a civil rights advocate in Webster Parish, especially with the local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). He focused on the Membership Drive and Voter Registration for many years. He is remembered for his testimony during the hearings before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights held in New Orleans, Sept. 27-28, 1960. He was quoted as: "We have what is known as the Webster Better Citizenship League, and this league was set up to encourage citizens to register and vote, and through this organization we have encouraged the citizens of Webster Parish to go down and try to register, and a good many of them go down, and some of them get by; some don't." His activities in the NAACP gave enjoyment and fulfillment, because he knew it would benefit the black community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years, the late Nancy Benton Morgan. No children were born to this union, but they were Godparents to many in the family and community. His was a life well lived and we shall miss his generous spirit, gregarious laugh and most of all his devotion to those he leaves behind. Though he leaves us, we shall never be the same, having been touched by his love and his life.
He is survived by his sister, Lula Bell Brown of Heflin; one niece, Thelma Euradell Bridges of San Francisco, Calif.; four nephews, George Bridges and wife Bunciele; the Rev. Lenward Brown and wife Nadine of Heflin; Sherman Reeves of Minden and Walter Reeves Jr. of Baton Rouge; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and other relatives. He is also survived by his extended family, the Mt. Nebo Church Family, True Square Lodge 226, NAACP, and the Minden, Dubberly, and Heflin communities.
Pallbearers were the True Square Lodge #226. Honorary pallbearers were George Bridges, Lenward Brown, Walter Reeves Jr., Sherman Reeves, and the board of deacons at Mt. Nebo.

Glennie Lee Gilbert Taylor
Funeral services for Mrs. Glennie Lee Gilbert Taylor , 71, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Mt. Pero Baptist Church in Dubberly with the Rev. Allen Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Dubberly under the direction of Kennon and Sons Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Taylor , a native of Dubberly, Passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, in Houston. She was born Jan. 1, 1929. She became a member of Mt. Pero Baptist Church at an early age. She later moved to Houston, Texas , where she joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Taylor , mother, Ivora Taylor , and her brother, John Edward Taylor .
She is survived by six children, Alvin Gilbert and wife Gail of Houston, Virginia Coleman and husband Joe of Houston, Calvin Gilbert of Minden, Bobby Gilbert, Billy Gilbert and Linda Saulter and husband Eugene, all of Houston; brother, L.T. Taylor of Minden; sisters, Marie Kennon of Doyline, Earlene Houston and husband A.K. of Dubberly, Joe Alene Jones and husband Ralph of Heflin, and Barbara Myles of Dubberly; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.

Fannie Gertrude Day Hall
Funeral services for Mrs. Fannie Gertrude Day Hall, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. T. Floyd Davis Jr. officiating and the Rev. Charles McInturff assisting. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at noon today, Oct. 30, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hall, a native of Bienville Parish and a resident of Minden, Passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, in Shreveport. She was a retired carrier for a newspaper production company.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Alvin Hall; son, Lelan Hall and brothers, Lonnie and Buddy Day.
She is survived by her sons, Oquin Hall of Minden; daughters, Clovice Culpepper of Shreveport and Florece Kearney of Minden; sisters, Faye Miller of Minden, Jerlene Lanier of Monroe, Lola Lee of Cullen and Sudie Hunter of Heflin; and brother, John Day of Monroe.
Pallbearers will be Morris Kearney, Damon Kearney, Mike Bourgeois, Jason Hill, Marlyn Langford, and Jeff Anders.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the building fund at Woodridge Baptist Church, 850 East Bert Kouns Industrial Loop, Shreveport, La., 71106.

Frances Thomas Walker
Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Thomas Walker will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at First Baptist Church in Minden with the Rev. Wayne DuBose officiating and the Rev. Ronald Prince assisting. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the funeral home and Wednesday, prior to services.
Mrs. Walker, a native of Natchitoches, Passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, at Integrated Health Systems nursing home in Minden following an extended illness. She was born Dec. 12, 1920.
She graduated from Northwestern State University with a degree in education. After marrying in 1944, the Walkers moved to Minden in 1945, where she was actively involved as a member of First Baptist Church. She taught youth Sunday school and directed Girls' Auxiliary for many years and also an active member of the Women's Missionary Union. She was a member of the Women's Department Club, the Junior Service League and Young Women's Service Club. Mrs. Walker was also a charter member of the Minden Study Club, and an active member of the Association of Natchitoches Women for the Preservation of Historic Natchitoches.
She enjoyed gardening, traveling, cooking and sharing coffee and conversation with her friends. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She was known for her gracious loving ways and her ministry of caring to many people through the years. She will be greatly missed, not only by her loving family, but also by a multitude of friends, both young and old.
She is survived by husband of 57 years, Andrew N. Walker; and three children, Martha Lynn Wetzig of Minden; Ellen Elizabeth "Libby" Cleveland and husband Gary of Berthoud, Colo.; and Tommy Walker and wife Cindy of Minden; grandchildren, Lindsey and Leah Wetzig of Dallas and Baton Rouge; Aaron, Kelly and Laura Cleveland of Berthoud; and Chris, Craig, and Cara Beth Walker, all of Minden; sister, Rosemary Thomas Baker and husband Glen of Natchitoches; brother, G.F. "Sonny" Thomas and wife, Mary Jean, also of Natchitoches; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Gene Thomas, Robert McKillips, Jim Ritchie, R.E. Woodard Jr., Howard Doughty, O.D. Cox, Harold Johnson and Ty Pendergrass. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Friendship Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Missions Ministry of First Baptist Church, 301 Pennsylvania Avenue, Minden, La., 71055.

Bernard Allen Alfred
Funeral services for Bernard Allen Alfred, 81, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia with the Rev. Jeff Hoffman, pastor of First Baptist Church in Arcadia, and the Rev. Larry Joyner, pastor of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, officiating. Burial followed at Arcadia Cemetery.
Mr. Alfred, a native of Haslam, Texas , and a resident of Arcadia for 40 years, Passed away Friday, Oct. 26, after a short illness. He was a retired secretary of the Bienville Parish Police Jury, and was a member of First Baptist Church Arcadia, Arcadia Lions Club, and was an active supporter of Arcadia and the surrounding area. He was also a master Mason. In addition, he served proudly with the Eighth Army Air Corps as a bombardier stationed in England during World War II, flying 25 missions aboard his B-24, the "Linda Lou." He was a graduate of Arcadia High School and Louisiana Tech University.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gene Woodard Alfred.
He is survived by his sons, Bernie Alfred of Seattle, Wash., and David Alfred and wife Janie of Destin, Fla.; granddaughter, Alison Alfred of Destin and grandson, Brian Alfred of Mesa, Ariz.; nephews Al Madden of Simsboro, Ray Madden of Ruston, and Gary Melanson of Shreveport.
Pallbearers were Al Madden, Ray Madden, Gary Melanson, Curtis McCrary, Doyle Gantt, and Guye Corley.

Maxine C. Brass
Funeral services for Mrs. Maxine C. Brass, 90, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia with Stephen Boyd officiating. Burial followed at Driskell Cemetery.
Mrs. Brass, a native of Bienville Parish and a resident of Arcadia, Passed away Thursday, Oct. 25, in Arcadia. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church. She also attended the Arcadia Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer W. Brass on Oct. 1, 1980; her parents, Connie and Lula Culbertson; and brother, Stowe Allen Culbertson.
She is survived by her brother, Doyle C. Culbertson and wife Margaret of Fort Worth, Texas ; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Arcadia Church of Christ or the Driskill Cemetery Association.

Alvin L. Lee
Funeral services for Mr. Alvin L. "Bill" Lee, 83, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Roy Strother officiating. Burial followed at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden.
Mr. Lee, a native of Webster Parish and a resident of Minden, Passed away Thursday, Oct. 25, in Minden. He was a retired police lieutenant for the Minden Police Department and a resident of Webster Parish all his life. He was a member of North Acres Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge, Knights Templar, Crusader Cammandry, and the American Legion and VFW.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Ray Lee.
He is survived by his son, Ronzee Eric Lee of Minden; and his brother, Marvin J. Lee of Minden.
