Edna Giddings
Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Cantrell Giddings were to be held at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 9, 2002, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden. A graveside memorial will follow at Lane Cemetery in Sibley with the Rev. Jimmie Pyles of Quitman officiating.
Mrs. Giddings, a resident of Sibley, Passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, after a long and happy life. She was born Oct. 12, 1912 and was a lifelong member of Sibley United Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer for more than 40 years. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martha Jane Hollingsworth Jowers and J.D. Jowers; three husbands, Morgan Tullis Everritt, C.F. Cantrell Sr., and Charles Dale Giddings; as well as children, James Earl Everritt, Snookem Cantrell Price, C.F. Cantrell Jr., and Patricia Cantrell Gandy.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Robbie Everritt of Bossier City; son, Frank A. Cantrell and wife, Shirley G. Cantrell of Byhalia, Ms.; grandchildren, Steven Mark Everritt of Broussard, Mia Everritt Alley, Faith Everritt Jones, and Ken C. Farris Sr., all of Bossier City; other grandchildren from various parts of the South, Martha Sue, Steve, Mike, Dennis, Terri, Bonnie, Polly, Jerry, James, Jackie, Jeff and Joey; a host of great-grandchildren; and her sister in Christ, Louise Bass of Shreveport.
Pallbearers will be Harmon Alley Sr., Dr. Forrest Jones, Ken Farris, great-grandsons, Ken Farris Jr., Kyle Farris, and Paul Jones.

Bessie Bennett
Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Bennett will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden. Burial will follow at GEE Cemetery in Athens.
Family hour will be held from 7 until 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 6, at the chapel.

Bessie Gilbert
Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Ann Billard Gilbert, 94, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Milton McDonald, pastor of Mt. Olive, and the Rev. Roderick Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery under the direction of Kennon and Sons Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 6, with family hour from 7 until 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gilbert, a native of Claiborne Parish, Passed away Friday, Aug. 30, at I.H.S. Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 7, 1907, to the late Webb and Angeline Autry Billard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Webb Gilbert; her only son, Oran T. Gilbert; two sisters; two brothers; parents; and a great-granddaughter.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Marie Gilbert of St. John's New Foundland, Canada; two granddaughters, Marie Williams of Laurel, Md., and Diana Nichols and husband Eddie, of Minden; one sister, Eva Mae Henderson of Compton, Calif.; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Alvin Gilbert, Calvin Gilbert, Bobby Gilbert, Billy Gilbert, Albert Holiday, and Harry L. Key.

Sandra Sandlin
Funeral services for Mrs. Sandra Carroll Sandlin, 56, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Hughes of Asbury United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sandlin Passed away Monday, Sept. 2, and was the executive director of the Minden Housing Authority. Her greatest achievement was starting the Primetime Center in Minden, which provided activities for underprivileged children.
She was preceded in death by her aunt, Margaret Ward.
She is survived by her loving husband, Vernon Sandlin; sons, Jim Sandlin, Jason Sandlin and wife Gina; grandson, Justin Sandlin; mother, Alice Carroll; sister, Sue Caldwell and husband Bill; brother, Robert "Buddy" Carroll and cousins Kathleen and James Ward.

H.J. "Buddy" Sullivan
Funeral services for Mr. H.J. "Buddy" Sullivan, 87, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Richard Methvin, pastor of East Side Missionary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be held after 2 p.m. today, Sept. 3, at the funeral home.
Mr. Sullivan, a native of Fort Necessity and a resident of Minden, Passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, in Minden. He was a lineman for the Louisiana Ordinance Plant. He was a member of East Side Missionary Baptist Church and a former resident of Sikes.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Vergie Taylor Sullivan; son, Johnny Lewis Sullivan and wife Gloria; daughters, Floy Ray and husband Willard, all of Minden, Marie Shepherd and husband Clovis of Emerson, Ark., Gloria Cook and husband Jack of Arlington, Texas , Delores Dooly and husband Kenneth of Minden; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building fund at East Side Missionary Baptist Church.

Hildred Billings
Graveside services for Mrs. Hildred Allean Billings, 91, will be held at West Lawn Cemetery in West Lafayette, Ohio, where she will be buried beside her husband of 46 years, Samuel Billings.
Mrs. Billings Passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, in Minden. She was born June 15, 1911 to the late Grover and Lula West in Greene County, Penn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister; husband; and two sons, David and Carl.
She is survived by her daughter, Camilla Billings Gandy and husband Robert of Doyline; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and their families; and many friends in Ohio and Louisiana .
She was devoted to her church and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Doyline United Methodist Building fund, or to Christ United Methodist Church in Newcomerstown, Ohio.

Sarah Logan
Funeral services for Ms. Sarah E. Logan, 71, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Carol Heard officiating. Burial followed at Providence Cemetery in Ringgold.
Ms. Logan, a native and resident of Heflin, Passed away Friday, Aug. 30, in Shreveport. She was retired from South Central Bell.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, James Logan, Delmar Logan, and Charles Logan.
She is survived by her sister, Maxine Widing of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brothers, Douglas Logan of Heflin, Robert Logan of El Paso, Texas , and Bill Logan of Shreveport; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Rogers Lowery
Graveside services for Mr. Rogers Matthew Lowery, 70, were to be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Sept. 2, 2002, at Mt. Comfort Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Kennon and Sons Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Lowery, a native of Minden, Passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, in Dallas, Texas . He was born Aug. 28, 1932.
He is survived by five sisters, Ida Hurds of Dallas, Texas , Lurine Wards of Los Angeles, Calif., Annie Crow, Emily Miller and Mary Fincher, all of Minden; three brothers, Matthew Larry Sr. of Dubberly, Lucius Lowery and Ira Lee Lowery, both of Dallas; one sister-in-law, Marzella Lowery; two brothers-in-law, W.L. Capers and John Henry Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Harold Brown
Memorial services for Mr. Harold William Brown will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at Antioch Baptist Church on Highway 80, near Dixie Inn. His wishes were to donate his body to medical science.
Mr. Brown Passed away Monday, Aug. 26, from Metastatic Melanoma. He lived on Goodwill Road in Minden.
He is survived by his wife, Julia Perkins Brown; three children, Betty Brown Fusilier of Conway, Ark., Charles Lee Brown of Clearwater, Fla., and Philip William Brown of Greenbrier, Ark.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the building fund of Antioch Baptist Church, 11812 Highway 80, Minden, La. 71055.

Zora Clark
Funeral services for Mrs. Zora Caldwell Clark will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Plain Dealing. Burial will follow at Caldwell Cemetery in Plain Dealing under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. prior to services. Family hour will be held from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at the funeral home.

George Moore
Memorial services for Mr. George Berton Moore, 69, will be held in Independence, Kansas.
He was raised in Minden and after serving 10 years in the Air Force, he settled in Selina, Kansas, with his wife, Dorothy Johnson Moore.
He was preceded in death by his wife; mother and father, Tom and Hazel Moore; brother, Thomas Moore Jr.; sisters, Ethel Moore Roberts, and Gloria Moore Curry.
He is survived by his sisters, Betty Lary, Helena Roberts, Lucy Quaid, Peggy Burge and husband; one brother, Fred W. Moore and wife Barbara; and 17 nieces and nephews.

Russell Pearson
Funeral services for Mr. Russell Pearson will be held at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 27, 2002, at North Acres Baptist Church in Minden. Burial will follow at Holly Springs Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Pearson, a resident of Minden, Passed away Saturday, Aug. 24, after a very sudden illness. He was born Oct. 4, 1940, in Bradford, Ark., and moved to Minden in 1976. He attended Hendrix College and then graduated from East Texas State College around 1962. He retired from the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant in 1995, where he had been employed as a cost accountant for approximately 17 years. For the past three years, he had been working for Valley Grinding and Supply.
Mr. Pearson was a very active and prominent member of North Acres Baptist Church, which he helped build in 1994. North Acres was originally Southside Baptist Church, where he was a member since moving to Minden. He served on the deacon body and was superintendent of Sunday school for many years. In the early 80s, he served as a youth counselor for the youth group at Southside. He also served on various other church committees that helped the elderly and shut-ins. He was very involved in a concept of witnessing called faith, because he wanted to see everyone come to know the Lord.
He loved the outdoors and his animals. They will miss him too. He and his wife built a horse farm north of Minden, where they raised registered paint and quarter horses. And he had two very special cats, Leonard-Dart and Bootsy, and a very special dog, Chelsea.
He was a very, very loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He loved his family and he showed this every day. He was always doing for someone else while asking for nothing in return. Words cannot describe the void that he has left in the hearts and lives of those who loved him. His legacy is one of Christianity, love, family, honesty, fairness, and faithfulness to the cause of others coming to know Christ. He will be sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maureen Pearson; father, Cleveland Pearson and stepdaughter, Kristi Irby.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Sanders Pearson of Minden; son, Rusty Pearson and wife Annette of Ozark, Ark.; daughter, Krista Pearson Menezes and husband Joseph of Kenner; son, Michael Pearson of Texarkana, Texas ; two sisters, Martha Pearson Johnson and husband Walter of DeKalb, Texas ; and Frances Pearson Smith and husband Don of Pine Bluff, Ark.; grandchildren, Jonathan Menezes, Lauren Menezes, Alaina Pearson, Dalton Pearson, Keely Pearson, and Alexis Pearson; nieces and nephew, Betsy Johnson Langley and husband Brian, Donna Smith Wheeler and husband Duke, and David Smith and wife Sena.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Acres Baptist Church Building Fund.

Bessie Miller
Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Faye Miller, 66, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. T.W. Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Minden Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today, Aug. 27, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Miller, a native of Winn Parish and a resident of Minden, Passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, in Shreveport.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Billy Frasier and grandson, Chad Frasier.
She is survived by her husband J.D. Miller of Athens, son, David Ray Frasier of Gallatin, Tenn.; two daughters, Rhonda F. White of Shreveport, and Tammy F. Miller of Minden; sisters, Bernice Bryant of Minden and Jeannie Mims of Slidell; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lillie B. Coleman
Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie B. Coleman will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Heflin. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. prior to services.

Roy Hawk
Funeral services for Mr. Roy Hawk, 76, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at Springfield Baptist Church in Mt. Lebanon with the Rev. L.R. Martian officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Miller-Pioneer Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. today, Aug. 23, at the funeral home.
Mr. Hawk, a resident of Minden, Passed away Friday, Aug. 16, in Minden.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Hawk of Minden; three sons, Roy Hawk Jr. and Roderick Hawk, both of Minden, Ronald Hawk of Berkley, Calif.; one daughter, Renee Hawk of Minden; three brothers, Lorenzo Hawk of Sibley, Horace Hawk of Merced, Calif., Winford Lee Hawk of Altodena, Calif.; three sisters, Alice Brock of Minden, Teresa Hawk of Sibley, Berta Allums of Texas City, Texas ; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Benny Hubbard
Memorial services for Mr. Benny Creel Hubbard, 54, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at the West Chapel of First Baptist Church in Minden with the Rev. Bill Ichter officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Hubbard, a native and resident of Minden, Passed away Monday, Aug. 19, in Bossier City. He was a private investigator.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.A. "Buddy" and Mattie Hubbard.
He is survived by his two sons Shane Hubbard and wife Heather of El Dorado, Ark., Corey Hubbard of Minden; daughter, Kristy McMahan and husband Tomy of Camden, Ark.; sister, Martha Swilley of Sibley; brother, Will C. Hubbard of Bossier City; three grandchildren, Chase and Mason McMahan and Grayson Hubbard.
