Marie Kennon
Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Kennon will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at St. Rest Baptist Church in Minden. Burial will follow at Jenkins Community Cemetery in Doyline.
Family hour will be held from 7 until 8 p.m. today, Aug. 23, at the church.
Mrs. Kennon Passed away Saturday, Aug. 17, when God plucked this beautiful rose from His garden. She was born Jan. 29, 1932, to the late Earlie and Ivora Taylor . She confessed Christ and an early age and joined Mt. Pero Baptist Church, where she served in several church auxiliaries. She was past choir president, mission president and until her health failed, a Sunday school teacher. Her Christian life was as the fragrance of a beautiful rose and her influence will forever live in every life she touched.
Her education included the Mt. Pero Church School, Central Consolidated School and Webster High School.
She was married to the late Redmon Daniel "R.D." Kennon of Elm Grove. She was extremely active in her community and surrounding areas. She, along with others, started the initial drive to secure natural gas in her community. Citing the need to be home with her children, she became a bus driver for the Webster Parish School Board for 22 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband; father; mother; sister, Glenie Lee Taylor ; brother, John L. Taylor ; grandson, Jaquari Kennon and great-granddaughter, Sha'Rhonda Salone.
She is survived by seven children Betty Banks and husband William of Doyline; Inez Lewis of Shreveport; Carolyn Jeter of Shreveport; Robert Kennon and wife Deborah of Shreveport; Al Kennon of Doyline; Faye Thomas and husband Michael of Desoto, Texas ; Shondula Whitfield and husband Hollis of Lancaster, Texas ; three sisters, Earlene Houston of Dubberly, Jo A. Jones and husband Ralph of Heflin, Barbara Myles of Dubberly; one brother, L.T. Taylor and wife Rosalia of Houston, Texas ; one granddaughter she reared from birth, Dianne Salone of Shreveport; 18 other grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ruby Myers
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Pauline Myers, 80, will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Willie Dean officiating and James Ferrell assisting. Burial will follow at Gilgal Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. today, Aug. 20, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Myers, a native of Gurdon, Ark., and a resident of Sarepta, Passed away Monday, Aug. 19, in Shreveport. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, L.D. Myers of Pineville; daughters, Dottye Miller of Minden, Gayle Powers of Sarepta, and Joyce Wallace of Minden; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Precious Parker
Funeral services for Mrs. Precious Jewel Parker, 92, were to be held at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 20, 2002, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Michael Davis officiating. Burial was to follow at Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sibley.
Mrs. Parker, a native of Webster Parish and a resident of Sibley, Passed away Sunday, Aug. 18, in Shreveport. She was a retired Webster Parish School Board bus driver.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jennings Bryant Parker.
She is survived by her sons, Wilfred Parker and wife Joy of Heflin, and Raymond Parker and wife Murlene of Sibley; daughter, Marjorie Turner and husband Pratt of Shreveport; sister, Orris Clement of Minden; nine grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Idella Heard
Funeral services for Mrs. Idella C. Heard will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at St. Rest Baptist Church in Minden. Burial will follow at Sheppard Street Cemetery in Minden.
The remains will lie in state at 10 a.m. prior to services.

Marie Lowe
Funeral services for Mrs. Marie O. Lowe were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton with Father Joe Martina, of Christ the King Catholic Church, who officiated. Burial followed at Hill Crest Cemetery.
Mrs. Lowe Passed away Friday, Aug. 16, after a lengthy illness. She was born Jan. 3, 1927 in Colfax to Henry Wesley and Marie (Elzie) O'Neal. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was the happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She loved to laugh and was devoted to family and friends. For most of her life, Mrs. Lowe was a homemaker, but she also worked for a number of years as a caregiver for mentally challenged children in state hospitals.
She is survived by her husband Cecil Lowe of Doyline; daughter, Debbie Cobb and fiancé Abraham Luna of Bossier City; two sons, Kenneth Lowe Sr. and wife Dianna of North Carolina, Robert Lowe and wife Kaye of Princeton; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Charles O'Neal of Shreveport; sister, Odessa Slaton of Lake Charles; and a large number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Ragan Lowe, Blake Lowe, Tommy Breedlove, Michael Breedlove, Kenneth Lowe Jr., and Travis Lowe.

Betty Robinson
Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Smith Robinson, 71, were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, at Heflin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carol Heard officiating. Burial followed at Fellowship Cemetery.
Mrs. Robinson, a native of Minden and a resident of Heflin, Passed away Friday, Aug. 16, in Heflin. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Robinson; mother, Effie Holley Smith and father, Harold Wright Smith.
She is survived by her son, Joe Lynn Robinson and wife Delores of Heflin; daughters, Peggy Joy R. Brunson and husband Walter of Childersburg, Ala., and Nelda Gremillion of Ringgold; brother, Billy R. Smith of Haughton; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Clay Brunson, Justin Robinson, Bo Godbold, Ben Bordelon, Brian Dennis, and Harold Holley. Honorary pallbearer was Paul Robinson.

Mary Hooper
Graveside services for Mrs. Mary Lavinia McGowan Hooper, 85, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Elder Graydon Smith officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held today, Aug. 16, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hooper, a native of Minden, Passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Willis-Knighton Bossier following a lengthy illness. She ran a small grocery store for 17 years with her husband Fred McGowan. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Minden.
She was preceded in death by her first husband; mother, Ida Mae Turner; grandmother, Mary G. White ; brother, Larkin B. Turner Jr., all of Minden; and sister, Elsie Mae Oakes of Shreveport.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Smith and husband Tommy of Bossier City; granddaughters, Karen Brown and Stacy Smith of Bossier City; grandson, Jeff Smith and wife Tracey of Phoenix, Ariz.; and three great-grandchildren.

Arthur Walker Sr.
Funeral services for Mr. Arthur Delmar Walker Sr., 83, were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at University Baptist Church with Dr. Carey Froelich officiating.
Mr. Walker, a native of Shongaloo and a resident of Baton Rouge, Passed away at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. He was a retired hotel manager and educator. He received his bachelor of science degrees from LSU. He was a teacher of vocational agriculture in Evergreen, Haynesville and Coushatta, supervisor of the vocational education department, Louisiana education system, and assistant superintendent for vocational education and state Department of Education in Baton Rouge. He was director of public relations and sales for the Alfred C. Glassell Hotels and managing director of the Glassell Hotels, including the Capitol House, Captain Shreve, Virginia Hotel and Evangeline Hotel, executive assistant for The Bellemont Motor Hotel, Oak Manor and Continental Motor Hotel, vice president and general manager of the Capitol House Hotel in Baton Rouge and the Fontainbleau Motor Hotel in New Orleans. He retired from the Department of Health and Human Resources.
He served on the board of directors for the International Hotel Sales Management Association and was an officer of the Texas HSMA, Deep South Chapter, HSMA, and the Louisiana Hotel Association.
He was a member of St. James Masonic Lodge 47, the Jerusalem Shrine Temple of New Orleans, Downtown Lions Club, Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce, Baton Rouge Advertising Club, chairman of the "See and Sell Baton Rouge" committee, member of Louisiana Cattlemen's Association, Louisiana Farm Bureau, Soil Conservation Society and Commercial Agricultural Workers.
He was selected "Man of the Year" in 1963 by Louisiana Cattlemen's Association. He was a member of Louisiana Future Homemakers of America and Louisiana Future Farmers of America.
As a member of University Baptist Church, he was an ordained deacon and served on the church board of trustees. He endorsed the original note on the property for University Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Edward Walker; and mother, Rachel Rowena Walker.
He is survived by his children and in-laws, Sharon Walker Mathews, Bill Mathews, Dr. Del Walker, Janet Walker, Steven L. Walker, Gary J. Walker and Kathi Walker; his seven grandchildren, Rebecca Mathews, Elizabeth Mathews, Anna Mathews, Rachel Walker, Gary Walker Jr., Clayton Walker, and Matthew Steven Walker; wife and mother of his children, Nona Rea Frye Walker; a brother and sister-in-law, Truman and Lavinia Walker; and a sister, Maxine Walker Moore.
Pallbearers were Bill Mathews, George Walker, Howard Walker, Edward Walker, J. Bryan Frye III, Barton Frye, Lloyd Frye, Randy Frye, Kevin Frye and Jimmy Bill Moore. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Pernell, Sam Friedman, J.Y. Terry, Charles Roemer, Kenneth Slade, Harold Garrett, Stanley Passman, Jimmy Dillon, Thurston Ware and John Sandel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the University Baptist Church Building Fund.

Emma Washington
Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Lee Hale Washington , 64, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at Harrison Chapel Baptist Church in Springhill. Services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Homer.
Family hour will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. today, Aug. 15, at New Bethel A.M.E. Church in Springhill.
Mrs. Washington is survived by her husband of 40 years, the Rev. Jonathan Washington ; son, Kevin Joseph Washington ; one faithful daughter-in-law, Debbie D. Washington ; one sister, Lucy Mae Hale; sisters-in-law, Alberta W. Glover, Odeal Washington , Francis Washington , Alice Washington ; brothers-in-law, Willie J. Washington , Elvin Washington , Odell Washington , and Luther B. Washington ; two special nieces, Hollisha S. Hale and Jacqueline A. Williams; many nieces and nephews that grew up with her and shared special times; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shreveport District Scholarship fund, P.O. Box 456, Springhill, LA 71075.

James Worsham
Graveside services for Mr. James Marshall Worsham, 91, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at Fellowship Cemetery in Dubberly with Dr. Richard May officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held at 4 p.m. today, Aug. 14, at the funeral home.
Mr. Worsham, a native of Dubberly and a resident of Moore, Okla., Passed away Monday, Aug. 12, in Moore. He was retired from Cities Service Oil and Gas, where he worked for 42 years and five months. He was a veteran of World War II, serving 41 months in the Fifth Air Force; 374th T.C. Groups; 33rd T.C. Squadron. He also served in Australia, New Guinea, Dutch New Guinea and the Philippine Islands.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Cloie Edmunds Worsham of Moore; son, James Marshall Worsham Jr. and wife Kristy of Ardmore, Okla.; daughter, Judy Worsham Fox and husband Larry of Moore; grandchildren, Michael L. Kious, Allison Worsham, James M. Worsham III, Clayton K. Worsham and Cooper L. Worsham; sister, Iola Smith of Shreveport; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

James Worsham

Ralph Payne
Funeral services for Mr. Ralph Payne, 44, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Aug. 12, 2002, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with Dr. Waldon Hatcher, Mr. Payne's father-in-law, officiating and Roger Hale assisting. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in the Evergreen Community.
Mr. Payne, a native of Homer and a resident of Minden, Passed away Friday, Aug. 9, at LSU Medical Center. He was a nuclear medicine technologist with LSU Health Sciences Center. He was a graduate of Claiborne Academy and Louisiana Tech University.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jake and Flossie Volentine and R.B. and Lola Payne.
He is survived by his wife Donna Payne of Minden; three daughters, Ashley, Catherine and Laura Payne, all of Minden; parents, Everett and June Payne-Leton; father and mother-in-law, Weldon and Joyce Hatcher of Ridgeland, Ms.; sister, Theresa Hines and husband Tommy of Tyler, Texas ; two nieces, Jennifer Miller and husband Carl, and their children Jordan and Bailee, Meagan Hines; one nephew, Brock Hines, all of Tyler.
Pallbearers ill be Jim Harris, Robert Gerding, Carlos Martin, David Martin, David Parker, and Brock Hines. Honorary pallbearers will be the LSU Health Sciences Center Nuclear Medicine Department and the Thursday night Bible study group.
Memorials may be sent to Glenbrook School or the donor's choice.

Joshua Heith Austin
Funeral services for Joshua Heith Austin, 16, of Jamestown will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 9at the Rocket Funeral Home chapel in Ringgold, with The Rev. Morris Robe officiating. interment will follow at Old Sparta Cemetery, under the direction of Rocket Funeral Home.
Mr. Austin Passed away August 6, 2002. He was born in Minden on Jan. 7, 1986 to Gary and Sandra Austin, now of Jamestown, who survive him.
Mr. Austin was a member of the Baptist Tabernacle Church in Sibley. He attended Castor High School. Among his favorite things to do were to hunt, fish, play ball and hang out with his friends.
Other survivors include: two brothers, Shane and Keith Austin, both of Jamestown; paternal grandparents, Alfred Austin of Minden and Rachel Slater of Jamestown; maternal grandparents, Edward and Lois Gurgainers of Sibley; uncles and aunts, Randy and Shirley Austin and Jeff and Donna Austin, all of Jamestown; Lori and Lee Douglas of Wyoming; Pam and Carl Grice, Becky and Gerald McEachern, Phillip and Dee Dee Gurgainers and Missy and Rodney Volentine, all of Sibley. Mr. Austin also left his girlfriend Jessica Shoemaker of Castor to mourn his loss, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

William Alfred "Skipper" Mosley
Funeral services for William Alfred "Skipper" Mosley, 55, will be held at 10 a.m., Mon., Aug. 12 at Beech Springs Baptist Church. The Rev. Ronnie Whitlock will officiate.
Mr. Mosley Passed away August 7, 2002. He was born April 4, 1947.
He is survived by: wife, Judy Simpson Mosley; two sons, Keith Mosley and wife Amy and Dale Mosley and girlfriend Misty Cox; four stepchildren, Sherry Rico and husband Chris, Micheal Savage and wife Tracy, Timothy Savage and wife Angie and Craig Savage; 12 grandchildren, Alan Mosley, Lance Mosley, Stetson Mosley, Morgan Mosley, Dakota Mosley, Tiffany Mosley, C.J. Rico, Kendall Rico, Malary Savage, Blain Savage, Shane Savage and Ryan Savage; his parents Alfred and Christine Mosley; a half brother, Donnie Mosley; a half sister, Terry Mosley and numerous other relatives.

Alma Lou Shaffer Pace
Funeral services for Alma Lou Shaffer Pace, 93, will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia, Louisiana at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002. Officiating will be the Rev. Ray Spiller, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Arcadia, where Mrs. Pace was a member. interment will follow at Arcadia Cemetery with Neil Shaffer, Jerry Ingram, Jim Smith, Brian Wiggins, Larry Rhodes and E. J. Ratcliff serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 9 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Pace went home to be with her Lord on Aug. 7, 2002 at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Ruston due to complications from an accident. She was born Dec. 13, 1908 in Gibsland. She was a resident of Arcadia for 48 years, having lived with her sister Lillian Howell for the past 15 years. Mrs. Pace always enjoyed being home cooking for and receiving family and friends. She was affectionately called AM by her family who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Alton E. Pace; her parents, James and Annie Shaffer; sister Myrtis Swink and brother Malcolm Shaffer.
She is survived by her sister, Lillian S. Howell of Arcadia; niece, Wanda Smith and her husband Jim of Bossier City; niece, Linda Ingram and her husband Jerry of Wetumpka, Ala.; niece, Helen Howard of Bossier City; niece, Ann Towns and her husband Oren of Ringgold; nephew, Gene Shaffer of Arcadia; nephew, Neil Shaffer and his wife Joan of Lutz, Fla.; nephew, Ray Shaffer and his wife Eumie of San Bernadino, Ca.; nephew, Larry Rhodes and his wife Martha of Minden and a host of great and great-great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at Willis-Knighton Bossier and HealthSouth Rehabilitation Center in Ruston for all their care and kindness during her illness.
