Mabel Holley
Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel David Holley, 92, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Ed Cooper officiating and the Rev. Skip Johnson assisting. Burial followed at Brushwood Cemetery in Dubberly.
Mrs. Holley, a native of Minden and a resident of Dubberly, Passed away Friday, June 13, in Minden. She was a homemaker and a member of Brushwood United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and a member of the Brushwood Cemetery Association. She was a dedicated Christian, loving mother, grandmother and friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey A. Holley; and her daughter, Linda Holley Reynolds.
She is survived by her son, Bootsie Holley and wife Janet of Dubberly; daughter, Claire Robinson and husband Robbie of Dubberly; sister, Lela Rice of Houston, Texas ; grandchildren, Debbie Reynolds of Dubberly, LeAnne Brazzel of Shreveport, Jane Harris of Port Allen, and Jeff Reynolds of Dubberly; great-grandchildren, Kristina Brazzel, Aubrey Reynolds, and Anna Ferrell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Brushwood United Methodist Church.

John Austin Sr.
Funeral services Mr. John A. Austin Sr., 86, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Heflin Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Baskin and the Rev. David Abernathy officiating. Burial will follow at Bistineau Cemetery in Heflin under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today, June 13, at the funeral home.
Mr. Austin, a resident of Heflin, Passed away Thursday, June 12, at Grace Home in Shreveport after a short illness. He was born in Many in 1917 and was a resident of this area for 30 years. He was a member of Heflin Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and church treasurer. He was also a member of the Webster Parish Cattlemen's Association. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted father and grandfather who enjoyed his sons' and grandchildren's ball games.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margueritte Pearce Austin.
He is survived by his three sons, John A. Austin Jr. and wife Donna of Shreveport, Don William Austin and wife Wanda of Heflin, and Richard Keith Austin and wife Linda of Little Rock, Ark.; grandchildren, Carey Holm, Skip Austin Gardner, Jessica Austin, Dub Austin, Matt Austin, John Todd Austin, Angie Gray and Tammy Rhyne; sisters, Elizabeth McMaster of West Columbia, Texas , Mattsye Pearce and husband Jacob of Ruston; brothers, James Austin and wife Geraldine of Lake Charles, Sam Austin and wife Helen of Montgomery, Ala.; sisters-in-law, Ree Pearce and Laverne Abernathy, both of Ruston; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dub Austin, John Todd Austin, Matt Austin, Don Rhyne, Tommy Russell and Carl Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Heflin Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to the Heflin Baptist Church Building Fund.

Clote Feaster
Funeral services for Mrs. Clote Feaster will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Haughton. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery in Koran under the direction of Mortuary Services of Louisiana in Shreveport.
Mrs. Feaster, a resident of Haughton, Passed away Sunday, June 8.

Arthur Gipson
Funeral services for Mr. Arthur Lee Gipson will be held at noon Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Mt. Zion CME Church. Burial will follow at Sheppard Street Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Patterson Funeral Home.
Family hour will be held from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday, June 13, at the funeral home.

Lizzie Volrie
Funeral services for Mrs. Lizzie Lean Shine Volrie, 79, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003, at St. Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. B.F. Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Sheppard Heights Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Miller-Pioneer Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday, June 13, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Volrie, a resident of Minden, Passed away Saturday, June 7, in Atlanta, Ga., while vacationing with three of her daughters. Her God-given talent was baking, which she loved dearly. She was known for her famous Naphe Valley cheesecake and chocolate Morgo desert. She baked until her health would no longer allow her to do so.
She is survived by five daughters, Lula W. Culbreath and husband Sherman of Lithonia, Ga., Alice W. Brown and husband Jerry of Minden, Jessie W. Ross and husband George of Lithonia, Betty W. White and husband Richard of DeSoto, Texas , Lizzie A.W. Fowlkes and husband Rodney of Lilburn, Ga.; four sons, Robert Walker of Sarasota, Fla., Jimmie Walker and wife Barbara of Canyon Cathy, Calif., James Randolph Walker Jr. of Gibsland, and Jerry W. Walker and wife Jo Helen of Beaumont, Texas ; two brothers, the Rev. Albert Shyne of Muskegon, Mich., and Leonard Shine of Los Angeles, Calif.; three sisters, Essie Hampton and husband Leon of Lake Charles, Lillie Candler of Los Angeles, Calif., Thelma Toliver of Albuquerque, N.M.; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Odile Bamburg
Funeral services for Mrs. Odile Cecila Bamburg, 68, were held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2003, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Ringgold with Father Karl Daigle officiating. Burial followed at Zion Baptist Cemetery in Fairview under the direction of Rockett Funeral Home in Ringgold. On Sunday, June 8, a vigil services was held at 6 p.m. at the church led by David Saucier.
Mrs. Bamburg, a native of Brusly and a resident of Ringgold, Passed away Saturday, June 7. She was born April 14, 1935.
She is survived by her husband, Lamar Bamburg of Ringgold; son, Danis Lamar and wife Brenda Bamburg of Tyler, Texas ; daughters, Charlotte Jeane and husband Joe of Wills Point, Texas , Lynnette Ferguson and husband Dale of Ringgold; brothers, Louis Lopez of Peoria, Ill., Cyril Lopez of Ray City, Ga.; sisters, Rosemary Cox of New Roads, May Neff of New Roads; grandchildren, Daniel Ferguson of Elm Grove, Paul Ferguson of Ringgold; seven step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Joe Jeane, Dale Ferguson, Paul Ferguson, Danis Bamburg, Bob Finco and Daniel Ferguson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Extension Society c/o St. Paul Catholic Church, P.O. Box 711, Minden, LA 71058.

Jessie Bryant
Funeral services for Mr. Jessie Bryant will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003, at New Hope Baptist Church in Haughton. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.

Ruby Cruz
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Cruz will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden. Burial will follow at Allen Cemetery in Minden.

David Hadwin
Funeral services for Mr. David L. Hadwin, 71, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Southside Chapel in Shreveport with the Rev. Don McCormick of Minden officiating. Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m. at Ebenezer Cemetery in Castor.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today, June 10, at the funeral home.
Mr. Hadwin, a native of Minden, Passed away Monday, June 9, in Shreveport. He was born Oct. 15, 1931 to Charles R. and Amy Lee Hadwin of Minden. He was employed with the Shreveport Times as the purchasing and operations manager and retired after more than 40 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles W. Hadwin; and sister, Charline Foster.
He is survived by his daughter, Dina Hadwin QuitiQuit and husband Tim of Tempe, Ariz.; and sister, Mary Sanders and husband Glenn of Shreveport.
Pallbearers will be Steve Sanders, Tim QuitiQuit, Kenneth Sanders, Gary Day, Sam Wallace and Roger Earhart.

Barry Slack
Funeral services for Mr. Barry Wayne Slack, 68, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Mt. Paran Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Garner officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary Inc., in Springhill.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, June 10, at the funeral home.
Mr. Slack, a native and resident of Shongaloo, Passed away Monday, June 9, in Shreveport following a long illness. He was born March 23, 1925 to Luther C. and Odessa Hardaway Slack. He was a deacon and member of Mt. Paran Baptist Church, and retired military Major after 22 years and serving in the Vietnam Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Sexton Slack.
He is survived by his wife, Fumiko Slack of Shongaloo; two sons, Corbin Slack of Eagle River, Alaska, Nolan Slack of Shongaloo; one daughter, Sharon Robinson of Texarkana, Ark.; six grandchildren, Joshua Laster, Jake Robinson, Heidi Slack, Ryan Slack, Jay Slack and Jamie Slack.

Merrie Wallace
Funeral services for Merrie Hazelle Wallace, 83, were to be held at 11 a.m. today, June 10, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Mark Ony officiating and the Rev. Brian Prussey assisting. Burial will follow at Minden Cemetery.
Mrs. Wallace, a native of Ashland and a longtime resident of Shreveport, Passed away Sunday, June 8, in Hope, Ark. She was a homemaker and a member of Linwood Baptist Church.
She is survived by her two sons, William Joe Wallace and wife Mary Ann of Saretoga, Ark., James Ray Wallace and wife Jan of Eureka Springs, Ark.; five grandchildren, Joey Wallace of Shongaloo, Sandra McCalman of Magnolia, Ark., Patricia Steward of New Boston, Texas , and Ryan and Michaelle Wallace of Atlanta, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Billy Hadwin of San Diego, Calif., Lavelle F. Hadwin of New Orleans; and one sister, Francis Burr of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Doris Gandy
Funeral services for Mrs. Doris Jean Gandy, 70, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2003, at First Baptist Church in Smackover, Ark., with the Rev. David Preston and the Rev. Vaughn Blue Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Smackover Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in El Dorado, Ark.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today, June 6, at the funeral home. The family will be at the Gandy Home, 901 Pine Circle in Smackover.
Mrs. Gandy, a native of El Dorado and a resident of Smackover, Passed away Thursday, June 5, at her residence. She was born May 28, 1933. She was a retired clerk for Cross Oil Company; a member of First Baptist Church in Smackover, where she was a member of the Rosa King Sunday school class, was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, vacation Bible school worker, and served on various church committees.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Herbert Burns and mother, Maude Kinard Burns.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, William A. Gandy of Smackover; daughters, Vicki de Yampert and husband Gary of Smackover, Cathy Durain of Sibley; brothers, Hurbert Burns and wife Pansy of Whiting, Ind., Ray Burns and wife Joann of Smackover, Edwin Burns and wife Sue of Ft. Worth, Texas ; sister, Melba Helms and husband Elvin of El Dorado; twin sister, Dottie Cain and husband M.E. "Tooter," of El Dorado; three precious grandchildren, Eric de Yampert and wife Casey of Maumelle, Ark., Tiffany and Allison Durain of El Dorado; six nephews; and four nieces.
Pallbearers will be Bill Spruill, Allen Gandy, Dan Henderson, Berry Rabun, Greg Sales, Tommy Norrell, Gregg Rowan, and J.D. Rowan.

Sidney Samuel Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Sidney B. Samuel Jr. will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with Dr. Ronald Prince and the Rev. Roy Dale Strother officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, June 5, at the funeral home.
Mr. Samuel Passed away Tuesday, June 3, in Minden. He was born July 29, 1922.
He was a graduate of Minden High School and served in the Navy with the Seabees in the Pacific during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
For more than 50 years, he owned and operated Samuel Electric.
Mr. Samuel was a member of First Baptist Church in Minden for years, now a member of North Acres Baptist Church of Minden. He helped organize the local AA and was instrumental in establishing Alpha House.
He was preceded in death by his parents, S.B. Samuel Sr. and Ora Coffee Samuel; four brothers, Lewis, Richard, Herbert and Charles Samuel.
He is survived by two sisters, Kathryn Samuel Maxey of Minden, Betty Samuel Mott and husband, the Rev. Waynon Mott of Alexandria; one brother, Jimmy Samuel and wife Betty of Shreveport; two sons, Tim Samuel and wife Sandra of Minden, Dawson Samuel and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Will and Katie of Minden; former wife, Betty Wall Samuel and daughter, Martha Stein of Loveland, Colo.; former wife and companion Lillian Lilly of Minden; stepchildren, Patricia Lilly Roy of New Orleans, Roy Lilly III of Minden; along with many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Brad Sandidge, Bill Tomlinson, Jimmy Heflin, David Maxey Sr., Joseph Hampton, and Harold Weaver. Honorary pallbearers will be Waco Robinson, Cathy Moore, Matt Gant, and David Maxey Jr.
Memorials may be made to North Acres Baptist Church or the local chapter of AA.

Prentis Scott
Funeral services for Mr. Prentis Scott will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2003, at New Hope Baptist Church in Homer. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Homer under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the funeral home with family hour from 6 until 7 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home in Minden.

Ronnie Marsh Sr.
Memorial services for Mr. Ronnie Marsh Sr., 56, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Whispering Pines Baptist Church in Minden. Services were under the direction of Bailey Mortuary in Cotton Valley.
Mr. Marsh, a resident of Cotton Valley, Passed away Wednesday, May 28, in Cotton Valley. He was a native of Coushatta; former resident of Shreveport; and a resident of Cotton Valley for one year. He was a Baptist and was a retired auto mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Edward Marsh in 1984.
He is survived by his daughters, Shannon Johnston and husband David, Mistie Nail and husband Lonnie, all of Shongaloo, and Carla Marsh of Shreveport; sons, Joel Marsh and wife Nisa, Ronnie Edwards Marsh Jr. and wife Lari, all of Minden; stepchildren, Sandra Erhart of Shreveport, Steven Erhart of Ruston; nine grandchildren; mother, Jewell Lea Marsh of Shreveport; sister, Sharon Ferguson of Shreveport; brothers, Charles Marsh of Quitman, Jerry Marsh of Pineville; and Larry Marsh of Bossier City; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Nellie McKee
Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie P. McKee, 72, will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 2, 2003, at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point, Miss., with the Rev. Charles Dampeer and the Rev. Kelly Unger officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. McKee, a native of Clay County, Miss, Passed away Thursday, May 29, at North Miss. Medical Center in Tupelo, Miss. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a bookkeeper and office manager for West Point Casket Co. for 25 years. She is the daughter of the late Gertrude Edna Howard and Carl Proctor. She married Carl Leslie McKee on May 2, 1991.
She is survived by her husband of West Point; two daughters, Evelyn Cameron of Birmingham, Ala., Claire C. Garrett and husband Mike of Heflin; four grandchildren, Angela Williams of Birmingham, Leslie Hanson of Murrieta, Calif., Michael Garrett and Jennifer Garrett, both of Heflin; one great-grandson, Justin Wyatt of Birmingham; and four sisters, Carlene Dodson and Marie Beene, both of Columbus, Miss., Cathy Moss of Natchez, Miss., and Barbara Loper of West Point.
Pallbearers will be Eric Hanson, Kenneth Moss, Mike Garrett, C.A. Dodson, John Holly Thomas, Richard Randle and Carey Dodson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Lyndon Perkins, Dr. Andrew Wartak, Lee Gordon, Bob Gray, Bob Ganss, the Adult V Sunday school class at First Baptist Church; the third floor and ICU nurses and staff of NMMC Tupelo.
