Sylvester Bell
Funeral services for Mr. Sylvester Bell will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Greater St. Paul Baptist Church with the Rev. Clarence O. Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Sheppard Street Cemetery under the direction of Kennon's Mortuary, Inc.
Visitation will be held today, May 30, with family hour from 6 until 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Bell, a lifelong resident of Minden, Passed away Tuesday, May 27, in Minden. He was born Oct. 20, 1915, to Cornelious Bell and Jessie Hodge Bell in Arcadia.
Steward's Mate Second Class Bell was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Navy. He was a dedicated and faithful deacon of Greater St. Paul Baptist Church. He married Naomi Bell, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, Cleodis Bell Sr. of Minden, Theodis Reed of Los Angeles, Calif.; one daughter, Gloria Jean Sims of East Brunswick, N.J.; one sister, Mrs. Hervie Lee Wilson of Minden; nine grandchildren, Cleodis Bell Jr., and Xavier Harris, both of Minden, Anthony Reed, Antoinette Reed, Aaron Keith Reed, Larry Reed, and Alfred Clarence Reed, all of Los Angeles, and Joshua Sims and Jason Sims, both of East Brunswick; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jerald Stratton
Funeral services for Mr. Jerald D. Stratton, 82, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003, at First Baptist Church in Minden at the West Chapel with the Rev. Wayne DuBose officiating and the Rev. Bill Ichter assisting. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. today, May 30, at the funeral home.
Mr. Stratton, a lifelong resident of Minden, Passed away Wednesday, May 28, in Minden. He was retired from the state of Louisiana Department of Labor as manager of the Shreveport Office of Employment Security. He was a longtime member and dedicated servant of First Baptist Church in Minden.
He served as the treasurer of the Minden Evening Lions Club for many years and served faithfully in the Friendship Class at First Baptist Church. He served as staff sergeant in the 678th Bomb Squadron in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a faithful husband, father and grandfather and beloved by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ellen Stratton; father, Henry Stratton; and brother, John Edward Stratton.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian Wise Stratton of Minden; son, Jerry W. Stratton and wife Lauren of Shreveport; granddaughter, Somer Stratton of Shreveport; great-grandson, Caiden Stratton of Shreveport; and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Tommy McMurray, George Turner, Killen Turner, Joe Whaley, Bob Johnson and Willard McClung. Honorary pallbearers will be the Friendship Class of First Baptist Church and the Deacons of First Baptist, Barry Turner and Truman Turner.

Jennie Guin
Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie Huckaby Guin, 76, will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 29, 2003, at Rockett Funeral Home in Ringgold with the Rev. Kelly Tingle, the Rev. Floyd Pate and the Rev. Raymond Sewell officiating. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery in Castor.
Mrs. Guin, a resident of Castor, Passed away Tuesday, May 27, at Willis-Knighton Pierremont Life Care in Shreveport. She was born July 5, 1926 in Jamestown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Guin; son, Gary Steve Guin; and stepson, Terry Dale Guin.
She is survived by her daughters, Dianne Guin Cheatwood and husband Murle of Saline, Florence Guin Cain and husband David of Shreveport, Janice Guin Guest and husband Eugene of Castor, and Lynn Kay Guin Green and husband Richard of Castor; sons, Jerry Dale Guin and special friend Barbara of Castor, and James Christopher Guin of Ringgold; grandchildren, Connie Lee, Kim Wolf, Phil Guin, Shelby Young, Kevin Guin, Sondra Desaider, Hubert Chris Ward, Mark Cecil Ward, Jerri Diane Blanchard, Jeff Davis, Chad Everett Davis, Steven Chase Green, Carlin Seth Green, and Jason Dale Guin; step-grandchildren, Glen and Kristen Guest; great-grandchildren, Rachel Lee, Davis D. Wolf, Stetson Mosley, Taylor Young, Tristan Guin, Preston Desaider, Colton Desaider, Christopher Ward, David Ward, Ava Elizabeth Ward, Gavin H. Ward, Ryder Blanchard, and Brandon Allen Davis; and several other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Hubert Chris Ward, William Jefferson Davis II, Mark Cecil Ward, Gary Phillip Guin, Chad Everett Davis, and James Kevin Guin. Honorary pallbearers will be Steven Chase Green, Carlin Seth Green and Brandon Allen Davis.

Charlotte Jackson
Funeral services for Mrs. Charlotte Elaine Jackson will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Minden. Burial will follow at Allums Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Family hour will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday, May 30, at the funeral home.

Wylma Brown
Graveside services for Mrs. Wylma Terral Brown Vaughn, 72, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Springhill Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Carter officiating. Services were under the direction of Bailey Mortuary in Springhill.
Mrs. Vaughan, a native of Whelen Springs, Ark., and a resident of Springhill, Passed away Saturday, May 24, in Springhill, following a short illness. She was born March 6, 1931, to Frank F. and Hazel Sublett Terral. She worked as a private sitter, was a resident of the Springhill area for 50 years and a member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Brown, John Vaughan; son, Ronald Clint Brown; sister, Betty McCartney; and brother, Bobby Terral.
She is survived by two daughters, Pam Huddleston and husband Robert of Springhill, Wanda Maxey and husband Roger of Leander, Texas ; three brothers, Jerry Terral, Larry Terral, and Keith Terral, all of Minden; three sisters, Brenda McDaniel, Renee Brogden, both of Minden, Katie Block of Beaumont, Texas ; stepmother, Lola Terral of Minden; five grandchildren, Renee Huddleston, Aaron Maxey, Jason Maxey, Terry Brown, Travis Brown; three great-grandchildren, Courtney Brown, Jeanna Maxey, Madison Maxey; and special nieces, Tina Antee and Tonya Kimes.

Eldred Lowe
Funeral services for Mr. Eldred Ford Lowe, 94, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2003, at Lakeview United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lynn Malone officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the funeral home.
Mr. Lowe, a longtime resident of Minden, Passed away Monday, May 26, after a brief illness. He was born in Waldo, Ark., April 12, 1909. After graduating from Minden High School, he went to Louisiana Tech University, finishing with a degree in journalism. He taught at Louisiana Tech and Hot Springs High School before establishing a printing business in Minden. He retired at age 88.
Mr. Lowe was a faithful member of Lakeview United Methodist Church and a lifetime choir member. He was a past member of the Civitan Club and the Knights of Pythias, where he served in several officer positions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Eunice Lowe; three brothers, Prentiss, William and Herbert; and a granddaughter, Valerie Tucker.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Clara DeFreese Lowe; two sons, Perry J. Lowe and wife Joy of Ruston, Eldred (Eddie) Ford Lowe Jr. and wife Pam of Minden; two daughters, Myra Turnage and husband Bill of El Dorado, Ark., Linda and husband Ed of Minden; two brothers, the Rev. Winston Lowe, and the Rev. Terral Lowe; three sisters, Lalia Perryman, Mary Cassels, and Margaret Dodez; grandchildren, Chip Lowe, Kira Breczinski, Michelle Thompson, Paul Turnage, Carol Whatley, Greg Turnage, Chad Wilson, Cory Wilson, Lori Branch, Jamin Butcher, Rachel Butcher; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the Lakeview Men's Class and longtime friend, David James.
Memorials may be made to Lakeview United Methodist Church.

Larry Brewer
Funeral services for Mr. Larry Clinton Brewer are pending in Sand Springs, Okla.
Mr. Brewer Passed away Friday, May 23, in Oahu, Hawaii. He drowned while swimming with his oldest son, Blake, in the Honolulu beach area while on summer vacation.
He was born in Minden on Nov. 22, 1948. He graduated from Minden High School and Louisiana Tech University. He lettered four years in football at Tech and was a teammate of Terry Bradshaw those four years. He received his master's degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and later passed the CPA exam.
At the time of his death, he was a hospital administrator for the Hillcrest Health Group of Tulsa, Okla.
He was loved by all who knew him, was a dedicated servant of the Lord. He was equaled by few as a husband, father, son and brother. He was a giant among men.
Mr. Brewer is survived by his wife, Toni Milam; sons, Blake and Marcus; daughter, Natalie Brewer, all of Sand Springs; brother, Gary and wife Pam and their three children of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; and parents, Clint and Helen Brewer of Minden.

Wylma Brown

Lillie B. Hemphill
Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie B. Hemphill, 81, were to be held at 11 a.m. today, May 26, 2003, at St. Rest Baptist Church in Minden with the Dr. B.J. Marting and Dr. B.F. Martin officiating. Burial was to follow at Sheppard Street Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Miller-Pioneer Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Hemphill, a resident of Minden, Passed away Thursday, May 22, at Minden Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
She is survived by her sons, Donnie Hemphill of Lake Charles, Ronnie Hemphill of Minden, Floyd Hemphill of Minden, Lenwood Hemphill of Minden; daughters, Marilyn Hemphill of Minden, Carolyn Hemphill of Minden; brother, Pat Washington of Dallas, Texas ; and 12 grandchildren.

Ollie Vee Hollis
Funeral services for Mrs. Ollie Vee Tucker Hollis, 80, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Minden Church of Christ with Bro. Adrian DeLukie officiating and Minister Benny Baker assisting. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today, May 26, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hollis, a native of Farmerville and a resident of Minden, Passed away Saturday, May 24, in Bossier City. She was a secretary and treasurer for Trailer Equipment Company.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Brooks Hollis.
She is survived by her sons, Scott Hollis and fiancé Melissa Shaw of Shreveport, Robert Hollis of Minden and Bill Hollis of Minden; daughters, Rosilyn Driver of Houston, Texas , and Judy Steeland and husband Larry of Roe, Ark.; one sister, Dot Johnson of Monroe; one brother, Bobby Tucker of Farmerville; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her nephews with longtime family friend and employee, Almer "Fox" Odom.

Nora Schmidt
Funeral services for Mrs. Nora Beth Ross Schmidt, 74, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Wayne DuBose officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Schmidt, a native of Hall Summitt and a resident of Minden, Passed away Saturday, May 24, in Minden. She was a former resident of Metairie and Houston, Texas , and was the previous owner and operator of Beth's Silk Flowers in Metairie. She graduated from Minden High School in 1946. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Winfred and Pauline Ross of Minden.
She is survived by her husband, Willie E. Schmidt of Minden; sons, John Ross Schmidt and wife Marie of Mandeville, William Brian Schmidt and wife Connie of Folson; daughter, Rebecca Schmidt Hamm and husband Donald of Minden; four grandchildren; and cousin, Polly Jobe of Baton Rouge.

Jaime M. Averitt
Funeral services for Mrs. Jaime M. Averitt, 26, will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 25, 2003, at United Pentecostal Church in Ringgold with the Rev. M.D. Owens officiating. Services are under the direction of Rockett Funeral Home in Ringgold.
Mrs. Averitt Passed away Wednesday, May 21, in Haughton. She was born Jan. 8, 1977.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lonnie McCoy.
She is survived by her husband, Malcolm Averitt; daughter, Megan Averitt; mother, Sharon Cameron; stepfather, Alan Cameron; maternal grandparents, J.B. and Mary Easterling; paternal grandparents, Doyle and Mary McCoy; great-grandparents, DeWitt and Doris Robinson; and many other relatives and friends.

Ms. Bailey Passed away Thursday, May 15, at Minden Medical Center.
She is survived by her mother, Thelma Bailey of Minden; sons, Eddie D. Bailey of Houston, Texas , Wilbert Bailey of Dallas, Texas ; daughters, Joan Brown, Zelma Bailey, and Carrie Carr, all of Minden, Loretta Bailey of Houston; brother, Eddie Joe Bailey of Winnfield; sister, Selessie Williams of Carson, Calif.; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Gladys Beaudry
Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys Weiss Beaudry, 75, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Rockett Funeral Home in Ringgold with the Rev. Brad Driggers, the Rev. Kelly Tingle and Father Karl Daigle officiating. Burial will follow at Page Cemetery in Castor.
Mrs. Beaudry, a resident of Castor, Passed away Thursday, May 22, at Christus Coushatta Health Care Center after a long illness. She was born April 2, 1928 in Ringgold.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Maudie Smith Plunkett; first husband, Luis Peter Wilson II; daughter, Teresa Bedingfield; son, Steven Weiss; brother, Floyd Plunkett; and her last husband, Jerome "Jerry" Beaudry.
She is survived by her sons, Luis "Sonny" Wilson III and his wife Peggy of Castor, Patrick Wilson of Castor, and Jerome Wilson of Austin, Texas ; daughters, Onnette Nelson and husband, Don of Castor, and Jeannie Joyner and husband Barney; grandchildren, Brian Driggers and wife, Ricci of Shreveport, Brad Driggers and wife Denise of Bossier City, Penny Driggers of Bossier City, Dixie and Luis Wilson IV of Shreveport, Jermone and Taylor Wilson of Florida, Jeremiah and Kolleen Joyner of Castor and Hallie and Myah Weiss of Castor; great-grandchildren Dalton and Steven Driggers of Shreveport, and Peyton Lewis of Bossier City.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Glover, Jason Plunkett, Bobby Guin Jr., Jim White , Kirby Potts and Dr. Greg Bell. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Brian Driggers, Luis Wilson IV and Jeremiah Joyner.
