Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Louise Mathes, 81, were to be held at 10 a.m. today, April 29, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Morris Robe officiating. Burial was to follow at Westlake Cemetery.
Mrs. Mathes, a native of Utica, Miss., and a resident of Doyline, Passed away Sunday, April 27, in Minden. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew C. Mathes.
She is survived by her daughters, Alice Miller and husband Robert of Sibley, and Dorothy Pearce of Doyline; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

William Cox
Funeral services for Mr. William Doyle Cox, 89, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home with the Rev. James Gass officiating and the Rev. Ronny Whitlock assisting. Burial followed at Gilgal Cemetery.
Mr. Cox, a native of Claiborne Parish and a resident of Tallulah, Passed away Friday, April 25, in Tallulah. He worked for the U.S. government in the Department of Agriculture. He was a former resident of Minden.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell A. Cox.
He is survived by his son, Terry C. Cox and wife Loraine of Vicksburg, Miss.; sisters, Novyce Gandy of Athens, and Wanda C. Dean of Farmerville; brother, James R. Cox of Heflin; four grandchildren, Cindy Black, Pam Lee, Kayla Drew and Gary Cox; and five great-grandchildren.

Ida Dick
Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Lee Dick, 90, were to be held at 10 a.m. today, April 28, 2003, at Point Chapel Assembly of God Church in Doyline with the Rev. Ed Smith officiating and the Rev. Ben Jordan assisting. Burial was to follow at Point Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Dick, a native of Claiborne Parish and a resident of Doyline, Passed away Friday, April 25, in Minden. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Frank Dick; son, W. James Dick and daughters, Clarice Dick; sister, Susi Wallace; and brother, Otis Ballard.
She is survived by her sons, Frank Jr. Dick and wife Vera of Minden; Bobby Ray and wife Alverne of Doyline; daughters, Cristine R. Tull of Shreveport, Dorothy Bordelon and husband Earl of Shreveport, Alice Huffman and husband Jack of Shreveport, Carolyn Guest and husband Charlie of Bossier City, and Jenny Jones and husband S.J. of Minden; sister, Inez Stone of Minden; 19 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Lloyd Kellems
Funeral services for Mr. Lloyd Lee Kellems, 66, will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 28, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Richard May officiating.
Mr. Kellems, a resident of West Monroe, Passed away Friday, April 25.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Smith Kellems; father and mother, Lloyd B. and Leora Kellems; and son, Lloyd A. Kellems.
He is survived by his son, F. Allen Kellems and wife Jill of Archdale, N.C.; daughters, Carmen Jones and husband Bruce of Jackson ville, Ark., Carrie Pennington and husband Rodney of Arkadelphia, Ark., Elizabeth Porter and husband Mike of Bryant, Ark., and Mary Roberts and husband Tony of Alexander, Ark.; sister, Valeda Sanders of West Monroe; brother, Danny Kellems of Searcy, Ark.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and cousins, Rex and Linda Hedgepeth of West Monroe.

Charles Marvin
Services for Judge Charles A. "Corky" Marvin, 74, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at First United Methodist Church in Minden. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden.
Judge Marvin had served as Chief Judge of the Second Circuit Court of Appeal from 1990 until his retirement in 1999.
Corky Marvin was a native of Jonesville. A journalism student at Louisiana Tech, he was a cheerleader, editor of the Tech Talk and was named the Outstanding Journalism graduate. In 1989, he was honored by Louisiana Tech University being named a Distinguished Alumnus. Upon graduation from Louisiana Tech, he served in the U.S. Air Force. Making use of the G.I. bill, he continued his education at the Louisiana State University Law School, where he graduated in 1957. The LSU Law Center later honored Judge Marvin by naming him an honorary member of the Order of the Coif, and inducting him into the Law Center Hall of Fame 1990.
In 1956, he married Rebecca Campbell of Minden and began his practice of law with the firm of Campbell, Campbell and Marvin in Minden. During his days as a practicing attorney, he served as president of the Minden Chamber of Commerce and Commander of the Wiley-Pevy American Legion Post.
In 1971, Corky was elected to serve as District Attorney for the 26th Judicial District. In 1975, Corky was elected to serve North Louisiana as a member of the Second Circuit Court of Appeal. He served frequently as a Pro Tempore Justice for the Louisiana Supreme Court and was elected president of the Council of Chief Judges of the United States. As a jurist, he was noted for his well written opinions that have served to guide law students and members of the bench and bar. He authored numerous law review articles and served as an adjunct professor at the LSU Law Center.
He and Rebecca were the parents of four children: Melissa, wife of Gary Brown; Michele, wife of Rodney Simoneaux; J. Schuyler Marvin, husband of Jodi; Mary Margaret, wife of Bruce Johnson ; all of whom survive him, along with 12 grandchildren.
Active in the United Methodist Church, Judge Marvin served his church as a member of the board of trustees of the Louisiana Methodist Foundation, chairman of the Official Board of First United Methodist, Minden, and a Sunday school teacher for many years. Judge Marvin was a 32nd Mason, a Shriner, and 40 & 8 Society member.
Judge Marvin adored his wife and family, was an avid fan of the LSU Tigers and the Lady Techsters, loved to travel and never met a stranger. In the last year of his life, Judge Marvin vigorously supported and actively advised his son, Schuyler, in his successful campaign to serve in the office he once held, District Attorney for the 26th Judicial District.
Pallbearers will be Judge William Norris, Frank Maraist, William Johnson , Dr. Edward Brown, Mitch Jones, Jack Brittain, George Lewis, Ronnie Robinson, Luther Moore, and Lewis Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Banks Sunday school class of First United Methodist Church of Minden.
Memorials may be made to FUMC Minden.

Mildred Brown
Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred "Millie" Moses Evans Brown, 77, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Ray Spiller, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Arcadia officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery in Jamestown.
Visitation will be held from noon until 8 p.m., today, April 25, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Brown, a resident of Merryville, Passed away Tuesday, April 22, at home among family and friends. She was born Mildred Irene Moses April 3, 1936, in DeRidder.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude A. Moses and Leah Prouse Moses; sister, Mary Leah Fannin; brother, James E. Moses; her first husband, Ronald Bryan Evans; second husband, William Curtis Brown.
She is survived by her sister and longtime companion, Elsie Whiddon of Merryville; brother, Claude A. Moses of DeRidder; sister-in-law, Lucille Allen of Jamestown; children, Ron Evans and wife Gloria of Shreveport; Bobby Evans and wife Margaret of Spring, Texas ; and Anita Cooper and husband Don of Springhill, Bill Brown and wife Alicia of Merryville, and Jeff Brown and wife Lee of Arcadia; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
Pallbearers will be Don Cooper Sr., Keith Malmay, Don Cooper Jr., Ryan Evans, Alex Cooper, and Bryan Evans.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Dorothy Merritt
Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Jean Shaw Merritt, 73, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Scott Lovelace officiating. Burial will follow at Lane Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, April 25, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Merritt, a native of Dubberly and a resident of Sibley, Passed away Wednesday, April 23, in Shreveport. She was a homemaker and was the first master tole painter in Louisiana . She was a member of the Tole Painters Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Stephen Merritt; sister, Mary Frances Martin; and brother, Joe Shaw.
She is survived by her sons, Robert Stephen Merritt and wife Janice of Lake Charles, Jeffery Keith Merritt and wife Renae of Heflin; sister, Emma Lou Koehler of Dubberly; brother, Clyde Blackmon Shaw of Tacoma, Wash.; grandchildren, Amanda Merritt, Amy Merritt, Brandon Merritt, Christopher Stephen Merritt, Ian Merritt, and Vanessa Addleman; and one great-grandchild, Alexis Haughton.

Myrtle Bishop
Graveside services for Mrs. Myrtle Wheatley Bishop, 94, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2003, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Ichter officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. today, April 24, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bishop, a native of Columbia County, Ark., and a resident of Minden for about 75 years, Passed away Monday, April 21, in Minden. She was a retired bookkeeper and a homemaker. She was born June 9, 1908, and was a licensed beautician and a member of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Leroy Bishop; and her grandson, Paul Dienst.
She is survived by her son, James Bishop and wife Trudy of Minden; daughter, Sue Bishop of Banner Elk, N.C.; four grandchildren, Bruce Allen Dienst, Sharon Dienst Imm, Terri Sibley, and Gregg Bishop; and four great-grandchildren, Heather Sibley, James Sibley, Matthew Imm, and Rachael Imm.

Jessie Foster
Funeral services for Mrs. Jessie Booker Foster, 92, will be held at noon Saturday, April 26, 2003, at Springfield Baptist Church in Mt. Lebanon with the Rev. Preston Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery under the direction of Kennon's Mortuary Inc.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 25, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Foster, a native of Gibsland, Passed away Friday, April 18, in Shreveport. She was born Feb. 6, 1911.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Hawk and Annie Booker.
She is survived by three daughters, Ophelia Kennon and Merdie B. Jackson , both of Shreveport, and Dorothy Bailey of Minden; one son, Clinton Rushing of Shreveport; two sisters, Willie Watkins of Gibsland and Learline Thompson of Oakland, Calif.; one brother, Melvin Hawk of Gibsland; and a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Glovenia Lyles
Funeral services for Mrs. Glovenia Harp Lyles, 90, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Bill Ichter officiating and the Rev. H.L. Kendrick assisting. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, April 23, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Lyles, a native of Shreveport and a resident of Minden, Passed away Sunday, April 20, in Bossier City. She was a homemaker and a member of First Nazarene Church in Shreveport.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Durward Harp; and her second husband, Charles H. Lyles.
She is survived by her daughter, Nan Edwards and husband Stephen of Shreveport; grandchildren, Harper F. Edwards, Phillip S. Edwards, and Mollie E. Edwards; and two great-grandsons, Maxwell Edwards and Thomas Edwards.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Rogers, Mathew Rogers, Blake Rogers, Doug Talley, Mathew White , and Shawn White .

Myrtle Bishop
Graveside services for Mrs. Myrtle Wheatley Bishop, 94, will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2003, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Ichter officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at the funeral home.

Essie "Sue" Brunson
Funeral services for Mrs. Essie Marie "Sue" Brunson, 81, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Marshall Street Chapel with the Rev. Larry Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery in Springridge.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. today, April 22, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Brunson, a native of Springridge, Passed away Monday, April 21, at Willis-Knighton Bossier. She was born March 13, 1922 and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bossier City. She was a homemaker and a member of Bossier Council on Aging.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Shirley F. "Jimmy" Brunson.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Judy Brunson Bilyeu of Minden, and numerous friends.
Memorials may be made to the Bossier Council on Aging.

Tobie Cornnor
Graveside services for infant Tobie Shane Cornnor were held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2003, at Bistineau Cemetery in Heflin with W. Marvin Wrenn officiating. Services were under the direction of Rockett Funeral Home in Ringgold.
Tobie, born in Minden, Passed away Saturday, April 19, in Minden. He was a resident of Jamestown.
He is survived by his parents, Rick and Crystal Cornnor of Jamestown; maternal grandparents, Vance and Johnnie Bolyer of Jamestown; paternal grandfather, Oris Cornnor; paternal grandmother, Barbara Smith; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Grace Borland
Graveside services for Mrs. Grace Borland, 95, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston with the Rev. Kent Craft officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today, April 21, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Borland, a native of Ruston and a resident of Jonesboro, Ark., Passed away Saturday, April 19, in Jonesboro. She was a former resident of Cotton Valley. She was a retired school teacher and a member of First Baptist Church in Jonesboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, A.C. Borland.
She is survived by two daughters, Ann Beasley and husband Bill of Jonesboro, and Rose Mary Dean and husband Bruce of Texarkana, Texas ; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
