Beatrice Martin
Funeral services for Mrs. Beatrice Nickerson Martin, 92, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Bailey Mortuary in Springhill with the Rev. Ronald Dunn officiating and the Rev. Adam Luna assisting. Burial followed at Springhill Cemetery.
Mrs. Martin, a native of Webster Parish and a resident of Cullen, Passed away Thursday, April 17, in Springhill. She was born Nov. 25, 1910. She was a longtime member of Cullen Assembly of God Church and was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rual Martin; daughter, Robbie Gilbreath; son-in-law, W.J. Taylor ; five brothers; one sister; and parents, Richard Oatman and Melissia Hood Nickerson.
She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Taylor of Springhill, Barbara Conly and husband Jerry of Atlanta, Texas ; six grandchildren, Janeice Avera, Ricky Gilbreath, Kevin Taylor , Sheila Luna, Scott Conly, Shawn Conly; 10 great-grandchildren, Cheryl Foster, Chris Avera, Aundrea Luna, Seth Luna, Destiny Luna, Brittany Taylor , Alexis Montgomery, Brooke Conly, Jerrie Conly, Matthew Taylor ; and two great-great-grandchildren, Taylor Foster and Bobby Foster.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Ricky Gilbreath, Kevin Taylor , Scott Conly, Shawn Conly, Chris Avera and Rodney Avera. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Nickerson, Jimmy Nickerson, Reed Smith, William Fitts, Kenneth Boone, and Jimmy Brown.

Margaret Monk
Graveside services for Mrs. Margaret Simolke Monk, 84, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home in Hammond.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 9 p.m. today, April 21, with a religious service conducted by the Rev. Lonnie Wascom at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mrs. Monk, a native of Stratford, Wis., and a resident of Hammond, Passed away Saturday, April 19, at North Oaks Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Jeffrey Corkern; parents, John and Mary Bauer Simolke; three sisters, Louise Wright, Jessie Johnston, Katie Kohal; and four brothers, Fred, Albert, James and Bill Simolke.
She is survived by her husband, Basil Roy "Toby" Monk of Hammond; daughter, Linda Monk Corkern and husband Walter of Hammond; two grandchildren, Michele and Stephen Corkern; four great-grandchildren, Jamie, Jordan, Cole and Kaitlyn Corkern.

Bobby Joe Boddie
Graveside services for Mr. Bobby Joe Boddie, 75, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Bear Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Don Woodard officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia.
Mr. Boddie, a former resident of the Bear Creek Community, Passed away Thursday, April 17, at Willis-Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport.
He is survived by his brothers, J.E. Boddie Jr. and wife Jean, Roy F. Boddie and wife Bettye; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Bear Creek Cemetery Association.

Cameron Sanders
Graveside services for Mr. Cameron Wade Sanders, 26, will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 18, 2003, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Anglin officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services today, at the funeral home.
Mr. Sanders, a native of Shreveport and a resident of Novi, Mich., Passed away Friday, April 11, in Novi. He was a manager of a furniture warehouse and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Novi.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Sanders; and grandfather, Robert E. Stoneking.
He is survived by his father, Ronnie Sanders and wife Rhonda of Pace, Fla.; paternal grandparents, Leroy and Mary Sander of Minden; maternal grandmother, Joye Stoneking of Minden; sister, Veronica Rea Sanders of Minden; stepbrother, Roger Penner and wife Lydia of Heflin; and stepsisters, Jamie Morris and Roxanne Marie Penner, both of Pace.

Julia Smith
Graveside services for Mrs. Julia Reno Smith, 72, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Woodard Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Roten officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today, April 18, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Smith, a resident of Taylor , Passed away Wednesday, April 16, in Bossier City.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Helen Reno.
She is survived by her husband, Elzie Drew "Snuffy" Smith of Taylor ; son, Gene Smith of Taylor ; daughters, Cathy Cardwell of Shreveport, and Liz Herndon and Julia Blackshear, both of Waskom, Texas ; brother, Jim "Sonny" Reno of Biloxi, Miss.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Bennie Flournoy
Funeral services for Mr. Bennie Lee Flournoy will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2003, at New Light Baptist Church. Services are under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, at the funeral home.
Mr. Flournoy Passed away Sunday, April 13. He leaves behind wonderful memories that will linger in the hearts of those who shared in the joy of knowing and loving him.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie and Autry Flournoy.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Flora Clark Flournoy; five children, Jimmy Ray Flournoy of Shreveport, Billy Ray Flournoy, Delphine Spencer, and Janette Tims, all of Minden, and Fredrick Lee Flournoy of Shreveport; four grandchildren, Amie Hampton, James Tims, Whitney and Haley Flournoy; one sister, Jessie Terrell; two brothers, Otis and Major Flournoy; one devoted uncle, "Doc" Hawkins; one devoted aunt, Mary Hawkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Thomas Sugg
Graveside services for Mr. Thomas C. Sugg, 80, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Minden Cemetery with the Rev. Everett Geis officiating and the Rev. Gary Knighton assisting. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Sugg, a native of Minden and a resident of Heflin, Passed away Sunday, April 13, in Shreveport. He was an electrician.
He is survived by his wife Louise Sugg of Heflin; Billy Sugg of Heflin, and Jerry Stiles of Heflin; daughter, Melanie Gibson of Heflin; six grandchildren, Jeremy and Thomas Robertson, Cody Gibson, Jason Stiles, Robert Bruce Stiles, and Chris Walker; five great-grandchildren; nephew, William Stocking; and niece, Winonah Stanley.

Sybil Merritt
Funeral services for Mrs. Sybil Anderson Merritt, 83, will be held at 1 p.m. today, April 14, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Merritt, a resident of Webster Parish, Passed away Friday, April 11, after a brief illness. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, "Mammaw" and Granny. She loved her family, church and many friends. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and faithfully attended and served as president of the Gold Star Sunday school class. She was an active volunteer at Minden Medical Center. She was employed at West Gibson for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gradie; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lem Anderson; and brother, Lemuel Anderson Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Barnette and husband Jimmie; son, Barry Merritt and wife Sunny; grandchildren, David Barnette and wife Donna, Mary Helen Winget and husband Darrell, Scott Merritt and wife Dawn; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Hocker and Christopher Smith; great-grandchildren, Shafer Barnette, Tiffany Winget; and step-great-grandchildren, Justin and Haylee; and a very special friend and neighbor, Mary Ellen Upton.
Pallbearers will be David Barnette, Shafer Barnette, Darrell Winget, Scott Merritt, Willard Moore, Don Willis, Alton Kiser, and Chad Madden. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Gold Star Sunday school class, Ed Gulley, O.J. Hall, Corky Marvin and Claude West.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Minden or the American Heart Association.

W. Claudis Evans
Graveside services for Mr. W. Claudis Evans, 82, of Minden were to be held at 11 a.m. today at Gardens of Memory cemetery with the Rev. Ronnie Whitlock officiating under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, July 31.
A native of Dubberly, Mr. Evans Passed away Sunday, July 27 in Minden. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was later an operation supervisor for Gulf Pipeline Co.
He is preceded in death by his wife Imogene Evans and son, William C. Evans Jr.
He is survived by two sons, Donald R. Evans of Bossier City and David T. Evans of McKinney, Texas ; two sisters, Betty Beatty of Minden and Mary Sue Brown of Bloomington, Texas ; one brother, Roy Evans of Panama City, Fla.; and eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Jude's Cancer Research Hospital.

Charles Richard Barton
Funeral services for Mr. Charles Richard Barton, 68, of Minden will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, at Parkway Baptist Church with the Rev. J.C. Clement officiating and the Rev. Don Woodard assisting. Burial will follow at Brushwood Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, Thursday, July 31 at the funeral home.
A native of Winnsboro, Mr. Barton Passed away Wednesday, July 30 in Minden. He was a retired tool and die maker.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Barton; one sister, Laverne Springfield; and one brother, Bobby Barton.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Barton of Minden; three sons, Charles Richard Barton Jr. and wife Crystalgail of Minden, Daniel DeWaine Barton of Minden and Lonny Glen Barton of Haughton; one daughter, Tina Christine Barton of Minden; five sisters, Earline Rollen of Seagraves, Texas , Claudine Robinson of Winnsboro, Mary Moore and Betty Perryman, both of Minden, and Gayle Batton of Dubberly; three brothers, David Barton and Vernon Barton, both of Haughton, and Donald Barton of Dubberly; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

W. Claudis Evans
Graveside services for Mr. W. Claudis Evans, 82, of Minden will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 1, 2003 at Gardens of Memory cemetery with the Rev. Ronnie Whitlock officiating under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, July 31.

Dewey Bryant Kennon
Funeral Services for Mr. Dewey Bryant Kennon will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Kennon's Mortuary, with Rev. T. A. Knapp, officiating. interment will follow at the Sheppard Street Cemetery.
Dewey Kennon, a resident of Minden, was born July 27, 1925 in Doyline to the late Carl and Mable Jackson Kennon. He Passed away on July 24 in Bossier City. Dewey Kennon faithfully served his country in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 as a Ship Cook and in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958 as an Airman Second Class.
Dewey Kennon is survived by his daughter, Dorothy Jean Kennon Williams and husband, Randy II of Chandler, Arizona; two grandsons, Rand Williams III and Steven Williams, both of Seattle, Wa.; three sisters, Effie Owens, Catherine Terrell, and Truzella Barker, all of Minden; one brother, Lee Kennon of Kansas City, MO; devoted in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 31, 2003 in the Kennon's Mortuary.
Services are entrusted to Kennon's Mortuary of Minden.

Janis Mims
Funeral Services for Janis Key Mims were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Mayflower Baptist Church, with Rev. Charlie Winzer, officiating. Burial followed at the Mayflower Cemetery.
Janis Key Mims, a resident of Minden, was born July 13, 1951 in Shreveport to the late Eddie Key Sr. and the late Eula B. Key. She departed this life to be with the Lord on, July 23 in Minden.
Janis Mims is survived by two sons, Nakia Mims and Shanga Mims, both of the Minden; one daughter, LaTonia Mims of Minden; one grandchild, Nykeria Mims of Minden; two sisters, Verdia Lindsey and Dorothy Moore, both of Minden; two brothers, Raymond Key of Oakland, CA and Joe Key of Athens; two aunts, Willie Mae Morris and Bennie Key, both of Minden; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services were entrusted to Kennon's Mortuary of Minden.

William Mallory Jones
Funeral services for William Mallory Jones, 96, were to be held at 10 a.m. today, July 28, 2003, at the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory.
Mr. Jones, a longtime resident of Heflin, Passed away in Houston, Texas , Friday, July 25.
Mr. Jones was born Sept. 7, 1906 in Bienville. He served as postmaster in Heflin for 43 years, from 1929 until his retirement in 1972. He also served three years in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was married to Verrell Bailey Jones for 60 years until her death in 1999.
Mr. Jones became a Christian at an early age and was a member of Heflin Baptist Church where he served faithfully for as long as his health allowed. He was a deacon and served as Sunday School superintendent, a teacher and a choir member for many years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion for many years.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife, Verrell Jones; two sisters, Irene Smith and Edna Reeve; and one brother, Paul Jones.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda Banister and husband Mallory of Humble, Texas ; two granddaughters, Julie Nickell and husband Bruce, and Karen Mills and husband, Mark; two great-grandsons, David Nickell and James Mills, all of Humble, Texas ; three sisters, Vera Olphint of Shreveport, Velma Boggs and Alice Lee of Heflin; sister-in-law, Chloe Jones of Shreveport; and a niece and several nephews.
Pallbearers will be deacons of Heflin Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Heflin Baptist Church of the donor's choice of charity.
