Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Bell Browder will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Wesley Grove CME Church in Cotton Valley. Burial will follow at Cotton Valley Community Cemetery under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Family hour will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. at the church.

Melba Sanders
Funeral services for Mrs. Melba Sanders, 61, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 7, 2003, at Erman Funeral Home in Pittsburg, Texas , with the Rev. Andrew McQueen and the Rev. Kyle Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Crossroads Cemetery in Camp County, Texas .
Mrs. Sanders, a native of Minden, Passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, Texas . She was born Feb. 18, 1942. She was a member of Pine Baptist Church, and farm manager for Pilgrims Pride Industry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.P. Gray and Doris Nave Gray; three brothers, Garvin Gray, Richard Gray and Jimmy Gray Sr.
She is survived by her husband Sherwood Sanders of Pittsburg; one son, Mark and Krystal Sanders of Pittsburg; two daughters, Deanne and Scott Sewell of Pittsburg, Denise and Kevin Lassen of Longview; nine grandchildren, Lauren Lassen, Dylan Lassen, Lance Lassen, Austin Sewell, Grayson Sewell, Collin Sewell, Kyle Sanders, Kole Sanders and Kade Sanders; one brother, Sammy Gray of Royce City, Texas ; two sisters, Sue Perry of Plano, Texas , and Robbie Monroe of Minden.
Pallbearers will be David Garris, Michael Gray, Russell Monroe, Cody Monroe, David Shelton and Todd Busch. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Massey, Billy Gray and Jimmy Gray Jr.

Marion Taylor
Graveside services for Miss Marion Taylor will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at Minden Cemetery with the Rev. Bryan Baggett officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held after 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the funeral home.
Miss Taylor Passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, in Minden, where she was born on March 12, 1913. She was a Webster Parish librarian until she moved to Alexandria, where she became the head librarian of Rapides Parish. Upon her retirement, she returned to Minden, where, until her recent illness, she was an active member of the first United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James T. and Frances Marion Scott Taylor ; her two sisters, Christine T. Miles and Jacqueline T. Davis; and her two brothers, James L. Taylor and Richard S. Taylor , Sr.
She is survived by her niece, Jacqueline D. Barnes of Atlanta, Texas ; her nephews, James P. Miles of Minden, Richard Scott Taylor of Baton Rouge and James Richard Taylor of Canon City, Colo.

Lois Brame
Funeral services for Mrs. Lois Ernestine Lockwood Brame will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at Calvary Baptist Church in Minden. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. today, Oct. 6, and Tuesday, Oct. 7, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Brame, a native of Truxno and a resident of Minden, Passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, at her residence. She was born July 27, 1934. Her goal in life was to live her life so as to be a blessing to others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harmon H. and Freddie Auger Lockwood; her sister, Bobbie Jean Brown; three daughters; infant twins; and Joyce Helen Brame.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, William Garth (Bill) Brame Jr.; daughter, Elizabeth Ann and husband Bill Allen; son, Francis Eugene Brame; grandson, Keith Lewis; step-grandson, David Allen; sister, Jacqueline and husband Dan Saxon; two nieces; three nephews; several aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family and friends.
The family would like to express their appreciation to her friend and caretaker, Barbara Cox for the care given to Lois over the past two years.
Pallbearers will be James Howell, Roger Lee Wilson, Gary Greene, Charles Adams, Dan Shidiskis, Alvin McBroom, Steve and Kirk Auger. Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult Men's Sunday school class of Calvary Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's or the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Marshall Haynes
Funeral services for Mr. Marshall "Dale" Haynes, 67, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at New Era Methodist Church with the Rev. Todd Pickard and the Rev. Gary Maskell officiating. Burial followed at Western Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary in Springhill.
Mr. Haynes, a lifelong resident of the Springhill/Shongaloo area, Passed away Thursday, Oct. 2, at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 7, 1935 in Shongaloo to M.D. and Mattie Carlyn Mayfield Haynes. He was a member of New Era Methodist Church, was self-employed, owned and operated Dale Haynes Construction. He loved cooking, going to softball and baseball games, camping and fishing. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Sue Timmons Haynes of Shongaloo; son, Jimmy Bruce Haynes and wife Debbie of Springhill; grandchildren, Ashlee Sue Haynes and Marshall Bradley Haynes, both of Springhill; sisters, Mavene Atkinson and husband Charles of Camden, Ark., Madge Mobley of Shreveport, Diane Smith and husband Lamar of Springhill; brothers, Robert and Grace Timmons of Wylie, Texas , Allen and Kathy Timmons of Sarepta, Ross and Cynthia Timmons of Springhill; father-in-law, Earl Timmons and wife Dorothy of Springhill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Era Methodist Church, the Heart Association, Diabetes Association or the Kidney Foundation.

Susie Mae Lane
Funeral services for Mrs. Susie Mae Lane, 83, will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at St. Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. B.J. Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Comfort Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Miller-Pioneer Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 7 until 8 p.m. today, Oct. 3, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Lane Passed away Monday, Sept. 29, at her residence.
She is survived by her sons, Willie Douglas of Houston, Texas , L.W. Lane of Houston, Willie Jerry of Lafayette; daughters, Lorse Jimmerson of Shreveport, Helen Lee Webb of Minden, Corine Cornelius of Houston; 25 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Wesley Barnes, Jeremy Rice, Joseph Webster, Keyvan Jackson , Marcus Lane, Anthony J. Barnes, and Reginald Lane.

Lurlene Herron
Funeral services for Mrs. Lurlene Herron, 84, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Mt. Zion CME Church in Minden with the Rev. Charlie Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at Sheppard Street Cemetery under the direction of Miller-Pioneer Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held until evening, today, Oct. 3, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Herron, a resident of Minden, Passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, at Schumpert Medical Center.
She is survived by her sons, Herman and Merri Herron of Dayton, Ohio and Anthony Herron of Minden; daughters, Barbara and Robert Hill of Minden, and Edna and Willie Cosby of Minden; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Lonnie Carter
Funeral services for Mr. Lonnie Drew Carter will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at St. Rest Baptist Church in Minden. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery on Germantown Road under the direction of Patterson Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 1 until 6 p.m. today, Oct. 2, at the funeral home.

Cora Gregory
Funeral services for Mrs. Cora Winston Gregory will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Ada Taylor . Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Family hour will be held from 7:30 until 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the funeral home, and visitation will be held at noon, Saturday, Oct. 4, at the church.

Joe Young Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Joe Young Jr. will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at New Hope Baptist Church in Haughton. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the funeral home, and also at 11 a.m., Saturday, at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Bee Young; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Eugene Young of Shreveport, Alexis Young of Bossier City, and Jerome Sr. and Shelia Young of Princeton; six granddaughters, Racheal Flournoy of Minden, Brittney Young of Bossier City, Tameka Mims, Destiny Mims, Khadeejah Jones of Bossier City, and Shekayla Mims of Princeton; three grandsons, Bryon Young of Bossier City, Antonio Mims and Jerome Young Jr. of Princeton; two great-granddaughters, Iyana Campbell of Bossier City and Sierra Fuller of Princeton; two brothers-in-law, James Young and wife Gwen of Dallas, Texas , Johnny Lee Black of Shreveport; sister-in-law, Natharene Heard of California; and a host of family, friends, nieces and nephews.

Louise W. Toups
Funeral services for Mrs. Louise W. Toups, 87, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Sept. 30, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with Father Karl Daigle, pastor of St. Paul's Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Minden Cemetery, next to her late husband, Joseph D. Toups.
Mrs. Toups Passed away Sunday, Sept. 28, after a brief illness. She married Joseph D. Toups Sr. on Nov. 22, 1945, and together, they had three children. Her husband was a career army officer, and she moved numerous times throughout his career. Following her husband's retirement, she was a longtime employee of the law firm of Campbell, Campbell and Marvin.
She was preceded in death by her husband; father, Geoffrey Westerfield; mother, Gertrude Pruyn.
She is survived by her three children, Joseph D. Toups Jr. and wife Beverly of Mansfield, Trudy T. Mabry and husband Fred of Bandera, Texas , and Ellen Toups of Arlington, Va.; five grandchildren, Burt Harvey, Susan Toups, Steven Toups, Brian Toups, Patrick Toups, along with one great-grandchild, Andrew Diaz.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Richard Campbell, Herman Lawson, Lane Davidson, David Benet, Burt Harvey and Kenneth Rowe.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Webster Humane Society, P.O. Box 218, Minden, LA 71058.

Henry Butler
Graveside services for Col. Henry Forde Butler, 84, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Brushwood Cemetery in Dubberly. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Col. Butler, a native of Dubberly and a resident of Henderson, Nev., for seven years, Passed away Thursday, Sept. 25, in Las Vegas, Nev. He was a colonel, U.S. Air Force (RET).
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Wayne Butler.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie L. Butler of Henderson; son, Robin R. Butler and wife Becky of Columbus, Ga.; daughter, Henri B. Hale and husband Bobby of Henderson; granddaughter, Anne Wesley Oakley; great-grandchildren, Michael Wesley, Anna Grace and Seth Michael; sister, Rachel Carnahan of Minden; cousins, Joe and Howard Butler of Dubberly; brother-in-law, Cade Leach; sister-in-law, Opal Simmons; and many nieces and nephews.

Geneva Mims
Funeral services for Mrs. Geneva Mims, 60, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Longspring Church of God in Christ with Elder Jefferey McDay officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Comfort Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Kennon's Mortuary in Minden.
Visitation will be held from noon until 8 p.m. today, Sept. 26, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Mims, a native of Minden, Passed away Monday, Sept. 22, in Arlington, Va.

James F. Browning
Funeral services for Mr. James F. Browning, 75, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden. Burial will follow at Doyline Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at the funeral home.
Mr. Browning, a native of Mingo County, W. Va., and a resident of Minden for eight years, Passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, in Minden. He was a retired coal miner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Laeger and Vera Browning.
She is survived by his wife, Bobbie Miller Browning; son, Gregory Browning and wife Aleashia of North Carolina; daughter, Sheila Lusk and husband Dewey, and Lucile Smith and husband Bob, both of Virginia; sisters, Irma Grimmett, Shelba Hanshaw, and Emma Ruth Goins; brothers, Paul Browning, Foster Browning and Laeger Browning Jr.; and six grandchildren.

Mavis Cook
Funeral services for Mrs. Mavis Jean Cook, 64, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 25, 2003, at Union Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Burford officiating. Burial will follow at Hephzibah Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary in Springhill.
Mrs. Cook, a lifelong resident of Springhill, Passed away Monday, Sept. 22, in Shreveport, following a lengthy illness. She was born Jan. 1, 1939, to Henry Lee and Ony Mae Butler Taylor and was a member of Union Springs Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son; two sisters; and a brother.
She is survived by her husband, Glen Cook of Taylor , Ark.; children, Elaine Wise and husband Mickey of Shongaloo, Cynthia Mills and husband James Jr. "BoBo" of Shongaloo, Letha Heinrich of Enid, Ark., James Johnson and wife Donna of Springhill, Glen Cook Jr. of Taylor , Zarl Johnson of Huntsville, Ala., Emma Roland and husband Cary of Shongaloo; brothers, Tommy Taylor of Springhill, Jack Taylor of Springhill, Travis Taylor of Baltimore, Md., Woodrow Taylor of Jennie, Ark.; sister, Erma Delores Maxwell of Atlanta, Ga.; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be Michael Dodson, James Mills III, Timmy Camp, Jonathon Hice, Joe Kelly, James Johnson , Jeremy Johnson and Michael Vaughan. Honorary pallbearer will be Cary Roland.

Rueben Burns
Funeral services for Mr. Rueben Joseph Burns, 67, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 23, 2003, at Mt. Paran Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Harry H. Burns Jr. officiating and Elder Wayne Burns assisting. Burial will follow at Cox Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at noon, today, at the church.
Mr. Burns, a native of Warren, Texas , and a resident of Dubberly, Passed away Sunday, Sept. 21, in Dubberly. He worked for the maintenance department for the state parks. He was a member of Mt. Paran Primitive Baptist Church.
He is survived by his son, Damon Burns of New Orleans; sisters, Miriam Brister of Minden, Verna Ray of Rose Pine, Barbara Vachula of Caddo Gap, Ark., Mary Alice Strange of Deville; brothers, Harry Burns of Grayson, and Wayne Burns of Mena, Ark.
