Velma Boucher
Funeral services for Mrs. Velma Reland Hortman Boucher, 91, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at Bailey's Mortuary in Springhill with Dr. Burton Blair officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, Sept. 15, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Boucher, a resident of Springhill for 73 years, Passed away Saturday, Sept. 13, following a lengthy illness. She was a faithful member of Springhill United Methodist Church, Baxter Sunday School class and United Methodist Women.
She was born in the Hortman Community of Webster Parish on Nov. 12, 1911, to Jesse and Mattie Malone Hortman. She was a graduate of Minden High School, Louisiana Normal (Northwestern) and Louisiana Tech University, where she received a bachelor of arts in education. Upon moving to Springhill, she began her teaching career as a seventh grade math teacher and retired as a fourth grade teacher from Browning Elementary after providing 32 years of service to the students of Springhill. She was active in several professional organizations including the Webster Parish Retired Teachers. She was founder of the Iota Conclave in Springhill of the National Teacher Sorority, Kappa Kappa Iota. She served as president of the local conclave and secretary for Eta state.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Hubberd H. Boucher; her parents; sister, Audrey hortman and baby brother, William Hortman.
She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Kay Boucher Garner of Ruston, Gayle Boucher Wissman and husband Bill of Hovland, Minn.; three grandchildren, Will Wissman of Colorado Springs, Colo., Rebecca Wissman of Grande Maris, Minn., and Susanna Wissman of Hovland; nephew, Scott Boucher and wife Tracie of Springhill; niece, Sue Boucher Whitlow and husband Mike of Springhill; three grand-nephews, Grayson Boucher of Shreveport, Mikey Whitlow of Shreveport, and Marty Whitlow of Ruston; grand-niece, Callie Boucher of Springhill; and special friends, Jackie and Richard Johnson of Springhill.
Pallbearers will be Richard Johnson , John Stevens, Jimmy Morgan, Grayson Boucher, Mikey Whitlow and Marty Whitlow. Honorary pallbearers will be Arthur Stevens, J.E. Humphries, Frank Martin, Jessie Boucher, and the Baxter Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Methodist Children's Home, Springhill United Methodist Church, the American Heart Association, or the charity of the donor's choice.

Bettye Richardson
Funeral services for Miss Bettye Rayline Richardson, 64, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Doyline with the Rev. Richard Jefferson officiating.
Burial will follow at Doyline Community Cemetery under the direction of Miller-Pioneer Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held until evening today, Sept. 12, at the funeral home.
Miss Richardson, a resident of Minden, Passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Minden Medical Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Clara Jackson of Doyline; brothers, John Henry of Houston, Texas , Willie Richardson of Shreveport; sisters, Mattie Lee Richardson of Shreveport, Paralee Richardson of Minden; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Emma Henley
Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Lee Johnson Henley, 81, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at Mt. Mariah United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert L. Peyton officiating and the Rev. Ray Spiller assisting.
Burial will follow at Mt. Mariah Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia.
Mrs. Henley, a resident of Minden, Passed away Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Lifecare Hospital in Shreveport. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nodie Lee and Otis Johnson ; sisters, Eva Cascelle, Martha Laverne, Myrtis Margaret; brothers, Purvis, J.D. and Robert Eugal.
She is survived by her son, Royce D. Henley of Minden; sister, Janelle Shanta of McAllester, Okla.; brothers, Elmer Johnson and wife Carolyn of Tulsa, Okla., Calvin Johnson and wife Beverly of Independence, Mo., Rayford Johnson and wife Beatrice of Hamburg, Ark.; sister-in-law, Nelda Driskell Johnson of Houston, Texas ; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Mariah Cemetery Association.

Chelcy Simpson
Graveside services for Mrs. Chelcy Marilyn Blagg Simpson, 69, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at Tulip Cemetery in Athens with the Rev. Bill Ichter officiating.
Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. today, Sept. 12, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Simpson, a native of Claiborne Parish and a resident of Minden, Passed away Wednesday, Sept. 10, in Minden. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Simpson.
She is survived by her two stepsons, Dan Simpson and wife Micki of Grand Prairie, Texas , Don Simpson and wife Loretta of Grand Prairie; two daughters, Linda Simpson of Minden, and Lisa Simpson Bingham and husband Rick of Haughton; one brother, Marion Blagg of Minden; five grandchildren, Beau Brown, Daniel Bingham, Tommy Bingham, Don Simpson and Ashley Simpson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ardis Wilson
Funeral services for Mr. Ardis Wilson, 95, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at Webster Memorial C.M.E. of Minden with the Rev. Manuel officiating.
Burial will follow at Allen Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Miller-Pioneer Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. today, Sept. 12, at the funeral home.
Mr. Wilson, a resident of Minden, Passed away Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Minden Medical Center.
He is survived by his sons, Johnny Ray Wilson, Calvin L. Wilson, and Henry Wilson, all of Minden, Billy Wilson of Homer, Grady Wilson of Minden; daughter, Beverly Jackson and husband Jarvis of Keithville; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sarran Miller
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarran Faircloth Miller, 77, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Skip Rainbow officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. today, Sept. 5, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Miller, a native of Webster Parish and a resident of Minden, Passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, in Minden. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wist Preston Faircloth and Emma Hough Faircloth.
She is survived by her sons, Richard L. Miller and Jessie P. Miller, both of Minden; daughters, Patricia Stinson of Waveland, Miss., and Joann Ray of Minden; sister, Doris Potts of Minden; brother, Bobby Faircloth of Benton; 15 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

Albert Jefferson
Funeral services for Mr. Albert Jay Jefferson will be held at noon Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at St. Mark Baptist Church in Doyline. Burial will follow at St. Mark Cemetery in Doyline under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
He was born May 4, 1942 to the late Bobbie and A.J. Jefferson . He was raised in Doyline, where he left at an early age to pursue a career in the USAC. He returned to Doyline in 1975. He Passed away Friday, Sept. 5, at 5:20 p.m. He will suffer no more, and there is no more pain. He will always be remembered for his neighborhood outreach to his neighbors, Mary Douglas, Ruby Jackson and Jimmy Richardson.
He was preceded in death by both parents; his wife, Rosa L. Jackson - Jefferson ; and his son, Albert J. Jefferson III; and younger sister, Bobbie Winfield.
He is survived by one son, Albert Jefferson II and wife Melodie of Amarillo, Texas ; two daughters, Michelle and husband Marvin of Bonaire, Ga., and Amanda of Doyline; one brother, Eddie and wife Ethel of Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Dorothy Mack of Doyline and Johnnie Mae Ware and husband Jessie of Rochester, N.Y.; friend Johnny Richardson of Doyline, devoted niece, Jay Jay and Bobbie; six stepdaughters, Annette, Cheryl, Julie, Sheila, Shawauna, LuVenia; one stepson, Darryl and wife Alvertis of Amarillo; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

George McCoy
Funeral services for Mr. George James McCoy, 94, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Kim Kelly officiating. Burial followed at Fellowship Cemetery in Dubberly.
Mr. McCoy, a native of Milam County, Texas , and a resident of Sibley, Passed away Thursday, Sept. 4, in Minden. He was a pit operator for a gravel company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary McCoy; his wife of 64 years, Lena Mae McCoy; a daughter, Dorothy C. McCoy; and son, George Lewis McCoy.
He is survived by four sons, William H. McCoy of Haynesville, J.W. McCoy of North Carolina, Billy Joe McCoy of Hirm, Ga., Clarence Wayne McCoy of Bossier City; two daughters, Mary Ella Nave of Fairburn, Ga., and Dorothy Mae Moore of Sibley; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Cavender of San Antonio, Texas ; 21 very special grandchildren; 30 very special great-grandchildren; and five very special great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Michael McCoy, Scotty McCoy, Lee McCoy, James Moore, Tony Nave and Billy Powell.

George McCoy
Funeral services for Mr. George James McCoy, 94, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Kim Kelly officiating. Burial followed at Fellowship Cemetery in Dubberly.

Hibernia Peery
Graveside services for Mrs. Hibernia Marler Fields Peery, 92, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at Old Saline Cemetery in Saline with Michael Boyett officiating. Services were under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia.
Mrs. Peery, a native of Boyce and a resident of Minden, Passed away Friday, Sept. 5, in Ruston, following a lengthy illness. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Minden. She was a retired LPN from Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Travis Fields and Glen Peery.
She is survived by her daughters, Marlene Boyett Gillis and husband Jim of the Woodlands, Texas ; and Glenda Parker and husband Wayne of Ruston; grandchildren, Mike Boyett of Ridgeland, Miss., Rachael Griffin of Flowood, Miss., Melinda Brasuell of Ruston, Judy Humphries of Shreveport and Michael Parker of Shreveport; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Cleveland Watson
Funeral services for Mr. Cleveland Watson, 78, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Wayne DuBose, the Rev. Bill Crider and the Rev. Bill Ichter officiating. Burial followed at Minden Cemetery.
Mr. Watson, a native and resident of Minden, Passed away Friday, Sept. 5, at Meadowview Nursing Home in Minden.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ludy and Annie Mae Watson; and two brothers, Norman and Lamar Watson.
He is survived by two sisters, Roba Bridges of Minden and Marguerite Lousteau of Baton Rouge; 13 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Sarran Miller

Wilton May
Funeral services for Mr. Wilton "Chink" May, 75, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Richard Methvin officiating. Burial will follow at Cotton Valley Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today, Sept. 4, at the funeral home.
Mr. May, a native of Cotton Valley and a resident of Minden, Passed away Tuesday, Sept. 2, in Shreveport. He was a retired drilling superintendent and a member of the Elks Club and a Mason. He was also an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Hattie May.
He is survived by his wife, Millie O'Neal May of Minden; daughter, Connie May Modisette and husband Joe of Shreveport; sister, Thelma Marrs of Alabama; brother, Tom May of White Oak, Texas ; and grandchild, Brook Hamrick of Dallas, Texas .
Pallbearers will be his four nephews, Deward Jackson , Tommy Jackson , Kenneth Wayne Jackson , Mike May; and friends, Ben Brint, Jim Hope, Gill McCaslan and Coy Elledge. Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Chrisler and Paul May.
Memorials may be made to the building fund of Eastside Baptist Church in Minden.

Ross Brister
Graveside services for Mr. Ross George Brister, 65, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at Hurricane Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Sikes with the Rev. Ronnie Whitlock officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the funeral home.
Mr. Brister, a native of Quitman and a resident of Minden, Passed away Sunday, Aug. 31, in Minden. He was a foreman for Alpha Construction Co.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawson and Serena Brister.
He is survived by his wife Frances Brister; sisters, Audna Turner and husband Dewy B. of Minden, Nellie Childers and husband David of Livingston, and Cassie Lovett and husband Elmo of Wasilla, Alaska; brother, L.D. Brister of Minden; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be Danny Childers, Johnny Childers, Matthew Childers, Jimmy Childers, Ken Brister and Larry Hoyt.
