Nomey
Joseph Nomey, 76
Funeral services for Joseph George Nomey, 76, of Jonesboro were held July 30 at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church with Father Robert Leonhardt officiating. Burial followed in the St. Lucy Cemetery.

Mr. Nomey died July 28 at Life Care Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born in Jonesboro, he businessman and a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. After the war, he returned to Jonesboro where he started building his family. He was not only a builder but a leader. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and on the JETCO Board. Through the years he started and ran many businesses successfully through his lifetime.

He is survived by a son, Joseph George “Sonny” Nomey, II and wife Angie of Jonesboro; daughters, Pam Huckaby of Shreveport and Patty Langlois of Monroe; sister, Mary Nomey Negem of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Chad Huckaby, Trey Nomey, Clay Pullig, Mitchell Huckaby and Camille Nomey; and one great-grandchild, Joseph Dillon Nomey.

Honorary pallbearer was Harold Allen.

Pallbearers were D.J. Allen, Terry Clason, Bill Weeks, Scott Andrews, Freddy Stewart and Van Beasley.

Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Rice
Jerry Beth Rice, 62
Funeral services for Jerry Beth Rice, 62, of Winnfield were held July 24 at the Sardis Cemetery with the Rev. Mickey Bounds officiating.

Ms. Rice died July 22 at Winn Medical Center.

Born Oct. 20, 1939 in Winnfield, she was a case worker for the state of Louisiana .

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas J. Rice and Clarice Clark Rice, and nephew Jeff Rice.

She is survived by a sister, Cathy Frederick of Winnfield; brothers, Floyd G. Rice of Las Vegas, Nev., Wayne L. Rice and wife Pat of Winnfield, Ronald J. Rice of Winnfield and David C. Rice and wife Stephanie of Natchitoches; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Rogers
Aubrey Rogers, 76
Funeral services for Aubrey James Rogers, 76, of Ruston were held July 27 at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Ruston with the Rev. Dale Oden officiating.Mr. Rogers died July 24 in Ruston.

He was a retired Holsum Bread sales representative and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Young, and a twin sister, Aubyn Morrow.

Survivors include his wife, Margie S. Rogers; sons, David Rogers and wife Lisa and Steve Rogers and wife Julie; daughter, Doris R. Best; sisters, Christine Martin and Nellie Holman; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services were under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Slaughter
Myrtis Slaughter, 89
Funeral services for Myrtis Louise Slaughter, 89, of Goldonna were held July 24 at the Goldonna Baptist Church with the Rev. Doyle McGrew officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Slaughter died July 22 at Winn Medical Center.

Born in Hudson, she was a retired nurse.

She was preceded in death by her husband, O.C. Slaughter; and son, Jesse Richard Boyett.

She is survived by daughters, Jean B. Culpepper of Jonesboro; Molly Louise Foster of Baton Rouge, Becky Morgan and husband Andrew of Goldonna; grandchildren, Ricky Boyett of Fort Smith, Ark., Billy Foster of Baton Rouge, Dr. Andi Morgan of Tampa, Fla., Ann Roden and husband Raford of Jonesboro, Chauncey Tucker of Branford, Fla. and Vanessa Williams and husband Brian of Atlanta; and seven great-grandchildren.Pallbearers were Larry Easterling, Trey Morgan, Rayford Roden and Brian Williams.Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Smith
Ethel Smith, 87
Funeral services for Ethel McBride Smith, 87, of Ruston were held July 29 at the Owens Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Evans officiating. Burial followed in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Smith died July 26 at Lincoln General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

A member of Grace United Methodist Church, she was a 1935 graduate of Louisiana Tech with a bachelor of science degree in education. She received her master’s degree from Louisiana Tech in 1968 and taught for 38 years in Texas and Louisiana . She was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, creating porcelain art, needlepoint, quilting and bridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace R. Smith, Jr.

She is survived by a son, Cade McBride Smith and wife Mary Ann of Jonesboro; daughters, Victoria Elizabeth Conner of Kingwood, Texas and Dr. Leah Susan Smith of Nacogdoches, Texas ; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were Wilbur Stewart an Doyle Johnson .

Pallbearers were grandsons, Cade M. Smith, Jr. and Alan Conner and Shane Rowell, Ronnie Jordan, Mike Thorne, Brad Dison and James Parker.

Services were under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

Anderson
Jackie Anderson, 56
Funeral services for Jackie Wayne Anderson, Sr., 56, of Baker were held July 20 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Tyler officiating. Burial followed in the Union Cemetery in Union.

Mr. Anderson died July 16 at Baton Rouge General Hospital.

Born Sept. 9, 1945 in Carthage, Texas , he was a self-employed musician.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Anderson; and brothers, Curtis Anderson, Sr. and Ronnie Trevillion.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Webber of Baker; sons, Jackie W. Anderson, Jr. and wife Stefanie of Baker, Shawn Thomas Anderson and wife Becky of Greenwell Springs and Bruce Wayne Anderson of Baker; daughters, Debbie Carpenter and husband Joey of Walker, Paula Ledford and husband Lewis of Monroe and Renee Rowe of Walker; mother, Edith Trevillion of Simsboro; sisters, Annette Trevillion of Simsboro and Donna Waggoner of Ruston; brothers, Joe Bennett of Denham Springs, Duke Trevillion of Minden, Jody Trevillion of Simsboro and Luther Trevillion of Minden; and 14 grandchildren.Pallbearers were Danny Wayne Anderson, Curtis Anderson, Jr., Luther Trevillion, Jody Trevillion, Duke Trevillion and Lewis Ledford.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Boyett
Gerald Boyett, 56
Funeral services for the Rev. Gerald Boyett, 56, of Dodson were held July 21 at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. David Leggett, Myron Thompson and Bill Staples officiating. Burial followed in the Cypress Creek Cemetery.

Rev. Boyett died July 17 at Winn Parish Medical Center after a brief illness.

He is survived by brothers, Roger Van Boyett of Dodson and Tim Boyett and wife Lori of Dodson; sisters, Elaine Rachal and husband Glen of Baton Rouge and Debra Allen and husband Kendall of Dodson; aunt, Opal Boyett of Dodson; two nephews; and two nieces.

Honorary pallbearers were the Revs. Kenneth Stanfill and Billy Lowery and Glen Rachal.

Pallbearers were Donald Boyett, Gene Terral, Kenneth Williams, Marty Ables, Keith Fitzgerald and Melvin Bagwell.

Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Newton
Terry Newton, 71
Funeral services for Terry Lee Newton, 71, of Shreveport were held July 2 at Centuries Memorial Park in Shreveport with the Rev. Louis Strain officiating.

Mr. Newton died June 29 at his home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Jonesboro, he was a graduate of Jonesboro-Hodge High School. He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and served Jonesboro as a volunteer fire fighter for a number of years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Loyce Newton; brother, Maurice Newton; and son, Robert Newton.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sybil Newton; brother, Kenneth Newton and wife Sheila of Blountville, Tenn.; sons, Danny Newton and wife Lyndra of Jonesboro and Timothy Newton and wife Susan of Shreveport; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were James Martin, Rodney Thomas, John Crooks, Gary Nugent, Chris Askew and Richard Newton.

Services were under the direction of Centuries Funeral Home of Shreveport.

Watts
Connie Watts, 94
Funeral services for Connie “Sangie” Wyatt Watts, 94, of Jonesboro were held July 11 at the Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Truman Leach officiating. Burial followed in the Ebenezer Cemetery.

Mrs. Watts died July 9 at Jackson Parish Hospital.

Born March 28, 1908 in Jonesboro, she was a retired bag tender.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Watts, Jr. and daughter, Gloria Earline Watts.

She is survived by a son, Earl Wayne Watts of Jonesboro; three grandsons; two granddaughters, 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Duncan Smith, Sonny Walsworth, William Davis, Louie Davis, Hayward Smith and Delwyn Peters.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.
