Bessie Wood
Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie L. Winchester Wood, 95, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe with Father Guido Verbeck and the Rev. Carol Heard officiating. Burial followed at Mulhearn Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Wood, a native of Minden, Passed away Friday, Aug. 15, after a lengthy illness. She was born Dec. 8, 1907. During the early years of her life, she served her country as a WAC in World War II in an administrative position. In the 1950s, she served as secretary to the Bishop of the Episcopalian churches and was a founding and lifelong member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Monroe. She was employed at St. Francis Hospital as a medical secretary and later served in the same position to several Monroe doctors. She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 7 in Monroe.
"Aunt Bessie," as she was known to everyone, cared for and was deeply loved by her family and numerous friends. Life with Aunt Bessie was always an adventure. Whether she was riding on the back of a motorcycle at age 90, swimming in a pool at 91 or riding in a hot air balloon at 92, she loved and lived life every day to its fullest.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ida Winchester; five brothers; one sister; her husband, Wallace Wood; and a son, Wayne Wood Sr.
She is survived by three grandchildren, David Wood and wife Tammy of Elizabeth City, N.C., Lee Ann Wood of Bossier City, and Wayne Wood Jr. of Heflin; three great-grandchildren, Lynne, Amanda, and Patricia Wood, all of Elizabeth City; daughter-in-law, Berry Wood of Heflin; and special niece and caretaker, Cathy Lee of Heflin, and niece Debra Hutchinson of Minden; special friend, Maxine Rosier of Ringgold; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Tommy Lee, Wayne Wood Jr., Dennis Kilcrease, Sydney Kilcrease, Shane Thurmon and Cody Lee.

Cecily Bennett
Funeral services for Mrs. Cecily Phyllis Moores Bennett, 72, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at Hill Crest Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Hunter and the Rev. Brian Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. today, Aug. 19, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bennett, a resident of Minden, Passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, in Shreveport. She was a retired registered nurse and a resident of Minden since 1988.
She was preceded in death by her son, Walter Bennett; brother, Roy Moores and her parents.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Thomas W. Bennett; son, Terry W. Bennett of Fresno, Calif.; one sister, Pearl Moores of Harbor Grace, Newfoundland, Canada; and a granddaughter, Tabitha Guerra of Waskom, Texas .
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Bandy, Jimmy Bandy, Jimmy Lindsey, Richard Burk and Roger Bates.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Joseph Daniels
Graveside services for Mr. Joseph Aaron Daniels, 24, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at Doyline Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Carlton officiating. Services were under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Daniels, a native of Shreveport and a resident of Brandon, Miss., Passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, in Brandon. He was an emergency medical technician.
He is survived by his parents, Martha and Jakie Daniels of Brandon; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M.R. Dalton of Haughton; one brother, Jonathan A. Daniels of Brandon; and numerous friends and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chron's foundation.

Howard Robinson Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Howard Robinson Jr. will be held at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 18, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. David Frizzelle officiating. Burial will follow at Tulip Cemetery in Athens.
Mr. Robinson Passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, after a lengthy illness with heart and lung problems. He was highly decorated in the U.S. Air Force and retired in 1973 from the Air Force. He was a very active member of the Webster Parish Lawn and Garden Club and the American Legion. He was born and raised in Dora. He loved to grow gardens, sing, laugh and tell jokes. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Labanda Thornton Robinson of Minden.
He is survived by his children, Milly Rose Frizzelle of Minden and husband David of Magnolia, Ark., Howard Robinson III (Henry) and wife Brenda of Tyler, Texas ; sisters and brothers, Jeanette Rogers of Dora, Ala., Rita Morgan of Durand, Mich., Gwen Robinson of Gardendale, Ala., Neil Robinson of Dora, Jackie Eiland of Dora and Donald Robinson of Dora; grandchildren, Suzanne, Rachel and Howard Robinson, all of Tyler and Mineola, Texas ; four great-grandchildren, all of Texas ; and many devoted sisters-in-law, Carolyn Robinson, Joyce Robinson, Patsy Costanza, Azalea Davis and Dovye Culpepper; brother-in-law Billy Morgan, and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Thornton, Jerry Wayne Thornton, Randall Costanza, John Lyles, Tommy Farmer and Earl Davis.

Gussie Mitchell Haynes
Funeral services for Mrs. Gussie Mitchell Haynes, 101, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at Mt. Paran Baptist Church in Shongaloo with the Rev. Charles Garner and the Rev. Ronnie Whitlock officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Shongaloo Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary in Springhill.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Haynes, a resident of Shongaloo, Passed away on Aug. 13, at Springhill Medical Center. She was born on January 8, 1902. A lifelong resident of Shongaloo, she married Drew Haynes, also of Shongaloo, on March 20, 1920, and they celebrated 58 years of marriage prior to his death in 1979. She was a member of Mt. Paran Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Mary Elizabeth "Molly" Amerson Mitchell; her husband, Drew Haynes; grandson, Donald Lane Modisett and great-granddaughter, Teri Lynn Duke Cole.
She is survived by her son, Hervis "Jabo" Drew Haynes of Shongaloo; her daughter, Mildred Modisett of Shongaloo; one brother, Oscar Mitchell of West Monroe; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Morgan, Billy Morgan, Jarrell Morgan, David Morgan, L.G. Morgan, Weldon "Bud" Morgan and Lester "Junior" Morgan. Honorary pallbearers will be Parey Branton, Calvin Dunn, Claymon Dunn and H.B. Slack.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Paran Baptist Church, Shongaloo, LA. 71072.

N.A. "Frenchie" Dulany
Funeral services for Mr. N.A. "Frenchie" Dulany, 96, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at First Baptist Church's West Chapel in Minden with the Rev. Bill Ichter and the Rev. Bill Crider officiating. Burial will follow at Minden Cemetery under the direction of Osborn Funeral Home in Shreveport.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until time of services at the church.
Mr. Dulany, a native of Bienville Parish and a resident of Minden, Passed away Sunday, Aug. 10. He has been a resident of Minden since his marriage to his wife, Jewel W. "Jack"Dulany. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Minden and a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. Frenchie enjoyed raising and riding horses. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Jack, to all parts of the United States and visiting his children and grandchildren.
He was a faithful employee of the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Minden for 48 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theatre. In November 2002, he served as the Grand Marshall of the Veterans Day Parade and was recognized as the oldest living veteran in Webster Parish.
"DaDa,"as he was affectionately known to his grandchildren, taught most of them how to drive in the pasture of their country home. He taught all of them the value of life and to have fun.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife; and seven sisters.
He is survived by five children Nell Couch and late husband, Don, Joyce Anderson and husband Lee, John and wife Karen, Jay and wife Nancy, Tim and wife Anita; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Braswell.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the Friendship Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church in Minden.
The family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Minden or to the charity or organization of the donor's choice.

George Gamble Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. George Allen Gamble Jr., 74, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Richard May officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at the funeral home.
Mr. Gamble, a resident of Minden, Passed away Wednesday, Aug. 13, in Minden. Mr. Gamble retired in 1981 from the Webster Parish Police Jury after 31 Years of service. He then returned to farming full time.
He was preceded in death by his parents Allen and Eva Gamble; sister, Jean Maddox; and niece Demeric Maddox.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Lee Gamble of Minden; sons, George Allen "Chuck"Gamble III and wife Mary Ellen of Minden, Clay Gamble and wife Kathy of Minden; and grandchildren: Kelly Gamble and wife Kari, Toni Gamble, Lauren and Benjamin Gamble, all of Minden; and great-grandchild, Madelyn Gamble.

Oma Cross Langston
Graveside services for Mrs. Oma Cross Langston will be held at 4 p.m. today at Minden Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Hunter officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
A lifelong resident of Minden, Mrs. Langston was born Oct. 28, 1907 and Passed away Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003. She worked as a bookkeeper in Minden for a number of years and retired from the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant in 1970 where she was an accounting clerk and a procurement officer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Felton Langston; parents, Edward Andrew Cross and Della Langston; sisters, Eula Cross Owens, Mary Jane Cross Davis, Jessie Mozelle Cross, Eugenia Cross Smolinski; and brother, William Lattimore Cross.
She is survived by one step-daughter, Julia Ruth Langston Fazio of Baton Rouge; one sister, Novilla Cross Zerangue of Pineville; one niece, Dale Smolinski Nicolette of Flagstaff, Ariz.; one nephew, Dr. Carl Smolinski of Shreveport; and several great nieces and great nephews.
Memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice.

Oscar Williams
Funeral services for Mr. Oscar Charles Williams, 79, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003, at Mt. Zion CME Church with the Rev. Charlie Coleman II officiating. Burial will follow at Grambling Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Kennon's Mortuary, Inc. in Minden.
Mr. Williams, a resident of Minden, Passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, in Shreveport. He was born Dec. 21, 1924, in Winnfield, to the late Gus and Roseanne Smith Williams. He faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946 during World War II as a Steward Third Class.
Mr. Williams was a retired educator and elementary school principal, having worked in Winn, Lincoln and Webster Parish school systems for more than 30 years. He was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, where he served as a steward, church treasurer, and coordinator of the Helping Hands Food Program. He also served as a member of the Joint Board of Finance of the Louisiana CME Conference.
Mr. Williams, a devoted civic servant and humanitarian, was active in many organizations and causes including Kiwanis International, Webster Association of Retired Teachers, AARP, Boys and Girls Club of Minden board member, Minden-South Webster Chamber of Commerce, Grambling Alumni Webster Parish Chapter, life member of the National Grambling Alumni Association, life member of the National Educators Association, NAACP, Boy Scouts of America, and a former member of the Minden Civil Service Board.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marguerite Hayes Williams of Minden; daughter, Linda Durril and husband Pompia of Fort Wayne, Ind.; son, Staff Sergeant Marcus Williams of Fort Wainwright, Alaska; stepdaughter, Yvette Hayes Edwards and husband Wayne of Minden; five grandchildren, Roseanne Durril of Oak Park, Ill., Crystal Durril of West Lafayette, Ind., Kenneth Durril of St. Paul, Minn., Forrest Hayes Ashley of Minden, and Markayla Williams of Houston, Texas ; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Betty Dollar
Funeral services for Mrs. Betty F. Hicks Dollar, 75, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Danny Warbington officiating and John Dollar, her grandson, assisting. Music will be directed by Tommy Kemp with special music from Lisa Gould. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden.
Mrs. Dollar (Maw), a resident of Minden for 35 years, Passed away Wednesday, Aug. 6, at her residence, after a lengthy illness. She was born June 20, 1928 in Point. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Minden. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis C. (Johnny) Dollar.
She is survived by her three sons, Ronnie Dollar and wife Twyla, Randall Dollar and wife Raynette, and Rod Dollar and wife Janette; one daughter, Rhonda Wafford and husband Tony, all of Minden; three sisters, Ezell Bottoms of West Monroe, Sue Robinson of Jena, and Ann Sheffield of Cartersville, Ga.; several sisters and brothers-in-law; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; her church family; and many close friends and loved ones.

Beatrice Sparkman
Funeral services for Mrs. Beatrice Frye Sparkman, 103, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 7, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Bill Ichter officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden.
Mrs. Sparkman, a native of Claiborne Parish and a resident of Minden most of her life, Passed away, Tuesday, Aug. 5, in Minden. She was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star. She was also a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, and an active member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.G. Sparkman; and her son, Grady Ray Sparkman.
She is survived by her son, James Edwin Sparkman and wife Margie of Alamo, Calif.; grandchildren, Sandra Sparkman of Minden, Gene Sparkman of Katy, Texas , Tom Sparkman of California, and Doug Sparkman of Kentucky; great-grandchildren, Katie, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Ian, Alan, Lea and David Sparkman; and special friend and companion, Yvonne Phenix.
Pallbearers will be L.C. Peevy, Spencer Smith, Bud Martin, Doyle Chanler, Hoyle Chanler, and A.D. Lowe.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Myrtle Barrios
Graveside services for Mrs. Myrtle Louise Fuller Barrios, 81, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden with the Rev. Terral Lowe officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, Aug. 6, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Barrios, a native and resident of Minden, Passed away Tuesday, Aug. 5, in Minden. She was a homemaker and a seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucian A. Barrios Jr.; daughter, Mary Morgan; grandson, William Donald Mangrum; and brothers, W.T. Fuller Jr. and Jack Raymond Fuller.
She is survived by her son, Lucian A. Barrios III of Minden; sister, Mary Grace Fuller of Minden; one granddaughter, Suezy Brantley; five great-grandchildren; niece, Betty Blake; nephew, Bill Fuller; and a host of friends.

Douglas Caple
Graveside services for Mr. Douglas W. Caple, 77, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden with the Rev. T.W. Barnes officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. today, Aug. 5, at the funeral home.
Mr. Caple, a native of Minden and a resident of Sibley, Passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, in Minden. He was the owner/operator of Caple's Camp in Sibley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Selma Jenkins Caple.
He is survived by his stepsons, Raymond McDonald of California, and Denver McDonald of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and sister Dorothy Wiley and husband James of Sibley.
