Lillie Mae Preuett
Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie Mae Preuett, 89, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Heflin with the Rev. Morris Robe officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery in Ringgold under the direction of Rockett Funeral Home in Ringgold.
Mrs. Preuett, a native of Bienville Parish and a resident of Ringgold, Passed away Saturday, Aug. 2. She was born Sept. 28, 1913.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Preuett.
She is survived by her sons, James Melvin Preuett of Heflin, and Wayne Preuett of Boise, Idaho; brothers, Bill Finklea of Heflin, and Buddy Finklea of Shreveport; sisters, Catherine Morgan, and Emma Harrison, both of Ringgold; grandchildren, Brandi Preuett of Heflin, Janet Scholl of Nekoosa, Wis., and Melanie Chipman of Boise; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Bobby Hutchins
Graveside services for Mr. Bobby Hutchins, 80, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 4, 2003, at Bistineau Baptist Cemetery in Heflin with the Rev. Everett Geis Jr. officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Hutchins, a native and resident of Heflin, Passed away Friday, Aug. 1, at Meadowview Nursing Home in Minden. He was a former Webster Parish sheriff's deputy, and a 50-year member of Elm Grove Lodge #266.
He was preceded in death by his wife, C.V. Hutchins.
He is survived by his son, Billy Ray Davis and wife Kathy of Bossier City; sister, Janice Moreland of Minden; two granddaughters, Barbara Ruth McGee and husband Scott, and Bridget Rene Benton and husband Tommy; three great-grandchildren, Amanda Rowell, Rachel McGee, and Matthew McGee; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend and caregiver, Donna Watson and daughter, Kimberly Cook.
Pallbearers will be Dale Hutchins, Derrick Hutchins, Claude Reeves, Gary Moreland, Scott Cook and Tommy Kemp. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Ross David, Grover Arthur, Bobby Warren and Ken Stewart.

Lillian Lilly
Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian Ann Hays Lilly, 72, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Roy Strother officiating. Graveside services will follow at noon at Liberty Hill Cemetery near Bienville.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today, Aug. 4, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Lilly, a native of Bienville and a resident of Minden for 36 years, Passed away, Saturday, Aug. 2, in Minden. She was a retired home demonstration agent for Webster Parish.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Berta Hays; sisters, Mary Effie, and Charlene Hays; and brother, Thomas (Sonny) Wilson Hays.
She is survived by her son, Roy Lilly III of Minden; daughter, Patricia Lilly Roy and husband A. Kenison of Metairie; and grandchildren, Charles Hall Lilly, Erin Michelle Lilly and Rachel Ann Lilly, all of Arcadia, and Alexander Philip Roy of Metairie.
Memorials may be made to North Acres Baptist Church in Minden.

Annie McDonald
Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Lee McDonald, 88, were to be held at 10 a.m. today, Feb. 13, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Billy Morrow officiating and the Rev. Hank Hamilton assisting. Burial will follow at Bistineau Cemetery in Heflin.
Mrs. McDonald, a native of Union County, Ark., and a resident of Heflin, Passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10 in Ringgold She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry McDonald; and parents, Crawford and Loffie Woods ; and daughter, Jo Ann McDonald.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Keating and husband Clyde of Heflin; son, John Michael McDonald and wife Becky of Benton; and grandchildren, Alisa McDonald and John Michael McDonald Jr.
Pallbearers will be Barry Dobbins, Paul Lessen, John Lyles, Jimmie Barnett, Wally Watts and Bill Stocking. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Schonfarbert, Don Arnold and Bobby Cutrer.

Eva Williams
Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Williams will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Mt. Calm Baptist Church in Minden. Burial will follow at Sheppard Street Cemetery under the direction of Miller-Pioneer Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Williams, a native of Minden, Passed away Friday, Feb. 6, in San Diego, Calif., where she had lived since 1997.
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Brodus Sr. She was an active child, curious about her surroundings, always enjoying family and friends. She displayed a spirit and positive attitude that suggested she was no ordinary child.
Following high school, then known as Webster Parish Training School, while making note of conditions around her and the limited opportunities for people of color, at the time, decided to move on.
Mrs. Williams arrived in New York City in the late 30s, seeking a better life. In New York, she sought to acquire skills that would enable her to enjoy an improved quality of life. She was employed at a variety of jobs while always studying at trade and professional schools to enhance her chance at moving up.
Later in life, Mrs. Williams was hired by the New York City Planning Department, where she worked for more than 27 years. She retired from the department as clerk in 1988.
In the meantime, she was married to the late Harvest Williams shortly after her arrival in new York. They lived comfortably at their home in Brooklyn until his death in the early 90s.
Thereafter, Mrs. Williams’ health began to fail, and she allowed her brother, Ambrose Brodus, a San Diego resident, to relocate her to California so he could take care of her.
Mrs. Williams was a devout Christian. During her 60 years in New York, she had maintained membership at Salem Missionary Baptist Church for 57 years. She was very active with many church ministries, involving the senior usher board, where she was president for several years.
On her arrival in San Diego in 1997, she joined Bethel Baptist Church, where she remained a member until her death.
Mrs. Williams is survived by one sister, Mrs. Tommie Sean Lee of Minden; two brothers, Ambrose Brodus Jr. of San Diego, Herman Brodus of Minden; one aunt, Mrs. Cliffort Wrench of New York City; one stepson, Harvey Saff of Queens, N.Y.; three nephews, Darryl of Houston, Va., Michael K. of Houston, and Stephen Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; two nieces, Allison Watson of San Diego and Nelda Jean Roberts of Los Angeles, Calif.; a host of very fine cousins; grand-nieces and nephews; and some of the best friends she could ever hope for. She will be missed very much.

Bobby Johnson
Funeral services for Mr. Bobby Johnson will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Valley Peace Baptist Church in Cotton Valley. Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery in Hosston under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Family hour will be held from 7 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hazel Key
Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Mayfield Key, 63, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Union Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Alvin Shelton officiating. Burial followed at Sheppard Street Cemetery under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Key was born to William Mayfield and Lottie Lou Jones Mayfield on dec. 8, 1939 in Dubberly. She was the third of three girls, and she grew up in Minden.
She associated with St. Paul Catholic Church. She confessed to Christ recently and joined Union Grove Baptist Church. She received her education in Webster Parish, graduating from Webster High School in 1957.
In 1964, she married James T. Key, and they had two children.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by her daughter, Keava L. Key; two sons, Anthony Mayfield and wife Loretta, and Tienno V. Key and wife Lesia; three granddaughters, Stormi, Krystal and Shermadee; seven grandsons, Cartonio, Antavious, Q’Juante’, Arzie, Kaylon, Cedric and Lavince; three sisters, Mary Alice McDay and husband Jesse, Nancy Shine and husband Julius, and Adell Talton and husband Galloway; one brother, William L. Mayfield; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorene and Richard Cob, Harrison and Mattie Key, Harry and Ruby Key, Betty and Gerald Cotton; mother-in-law, Mrs. Bennie Key; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Katherine Lockhart
Funeral services for Mrs. Katherine Lockhart will be held at noon Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Springhill CME Church in Minden. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Family hour will be held from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Annie McDonald
Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Lee McDonald, 88, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Billy Morrow officiating and the Rev. Hank Hamilton assisting. Burial will follow at Bistineau Cemetery in Heflin.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today, Feb. 12, at the funeral home.

Augustus Parris
Funeral services for Ms. Augustus Parris will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at New Zion Baptist Church in Doyline.
She is survived by one daughter, Annie and husband Frank Grigsby; one granddaughter, Chandra Johnson ; one grandson, Douglas Green; one great-granddaughter, Chan’Trell Johnson ; one great-grandson, Terrell Williams; two sisters, Castor Long and Murtis Darby; and one brother, Curtis Parris.

Clayton Payne
Funeral services for Mr. Clayton A. Payne, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 12, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia with the Rev. Jesse Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery.
Mr. Payne, a native of Jennings and a resident of Dubberly, Passed away Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Homer Memorial Hospital. He was a carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Etta Pauline McBride Payne; parents, Joseph and Willia Payne; daughter, Patsy Payne Calhoun; three brothers, Guy, Robert and Noah “Sonny” Payne; and sister, Florence Payne Markham.
He is survived by his daughter, Polly A. Ford of Dubberly; sisters, Laverne Conly, Sallie Roth and Betty Moore, all of Bossier City; grandchildren, Kenneth L. Casey Ford of Lone Star, Texas , Tamera Robey and husband Danny of Dangerfield, Texas ; great-grandchildren, Brooks and Braden Robey of Dangerfield; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be James Walker, John Mark Parnell, Edward King, Joey Payne, Ray Creasy and Bobby Conly. Honorary pallbearers will be Brooks and Braden Robey.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Lloyd Lyons Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Lloyd W. Lyons Jr., 42, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer with the Rev. Raymond Sewell officiating. Burial will follow at Cox Cemetery in Homer.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at the funeral home.
Mr. Lyons, a resident of Houston, Texas , formerly of Homer, Passed away Monday, Feb. 9, in Houston. He was a store manager with Sam’s Wholesale Club in Houston.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Dianne Lyons McIntosh; and his mother, Dorothy B. Lyons.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Lyons Sr. of Homer; four sisters, Karen Elsass and husband Greg of Broken Arrow, Okla., Cindy Holloway and husband Randall of Columbia, S.C., Sharon Ward of Minden, and Dale Graves of Atoka, Okla.; stepsister, Ellen Potter of Dubberly; brother, Terry Lyons and wife Sonya of Minden; two stepbrothers, Grady B. Miller of Minden, and David L. Miller of Sibley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be members of his family and friends.

Marion H. Smith
Marion H. Smith, 88, formerly of Erie, Pa., died at Minden Medical Center Monday, Feb. 2, after a lengthy illness.
A victim of Alzheimer’s disease, she was brought to Minden to stay with her son, Allen J. Smith and his wife, Adrienne Moffett Smith. Marion is also survived by two other loving sons, Lenny Smith, and Larry Smith and his wife, Sheryl, of Sacramento and Dallas, respectively.
She is also survived by four grandchildren and spouses, Michael and Kim Smith, Kelly and Geoff Whitney, Janet and Andrew Steuart, and Erik Allen Smith. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Kory and Kristen Smith, Maxwell, Samuel and Jackson Whitney, and Alyssa, Abigail and Alexander Steuart .
Marion was a kind, cheerful and talented person beloved by all who knew her. She was a first-rate ragtime piano player with perfect pitch and an unerring sense of rhythm and phrasing. Her performances at social clubs and gatherings in the Erie area uplifted countless listeners and never failed to set toes tapping. In her later years, she played voluntarily in nursing homes, bringing joy and comfort to the afflicted before she herself fell victim to one of our age’s worst diseases.
She was married to the late Theodore L. Smith, who Passed away in the 1970s.
She was remembered at a memorial service 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Minden.
Father Wayne Carter officiated, assisted by the Rev. Lt. Ed Baswell of the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Marvin Dragland
Funeral services for Mr. Marvin E. Dragland, 78, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at Bailey Mortuary in Springhill with the Rev. Charles Woolley officiating, and the Rev. Jim Brown assisting. Burial will follow at Old Shongaloo Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. today, Feb. 10, at the funeral home.
Mr. Dragland, a native of Hot Springs, Ark., and a resident of Shongaloo, Passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, in Minden. He was born Oct. 2, 1925, to Daniel Michael and Ethel Mae Thomas Dragland. He was a member of Old Sarepta Missionary Baptist Church and was a retired painter/contractor. He was also a Springhill graduate and U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Hilma Brown.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lena Marie Dragland of Shongaloo; five sons, Robert Dragland and wife Joan of Lewisburg, Tenn., Michael “Mike” Dragland and wife Virginia of Baton Rouge, Thomas “Tom” Dragland and wife Lynnie of Benton, Ark., John Dragland and wife Sharon of Haynesville, David Dragland and wife Lynette of Shongaloo; two daughters, Peggy Caldwell and husband Lynn of Woodridge, Va., Mary Denny and husband Glenn of Minden; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Steven Nix, Andy Dragland, Scott McLain, Jeremy Anders, Eric Denny and Daniel Dragland.
