Funeral services for Miss Kayse Lee Morris, 21, were to be held at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 2, 2004, at Koran Baptist Church in Doyline with the Rev. George Rogers officiating. Burial was to follow at West Lake Cemetery in Doyline under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Miss Morris, a native of Shreveport and a resident of Elm Grove, Passed away Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, in Shreveport.
She is survived by her parents, Dennis and Mary Morris; brothers, Hank Morris and Ben Morris, all of Elm Grove; grandparents, L.G. and Marry Morris of Doyline and Robert Maxey of Doyline.
Pallbearers will be Hank Morris, Ben Morris, J.D. Murphy, James Morris, Bubba Morris, Jason Hall, William Bryant, Derek Lisenby, Clay Johns and Billy Armstrong.

Marian Ellis
Graveside services for Mrs. Marian Tomkins Ellis, 70, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2004, at Point Chapel Cemetery in Doyline with the Rev. Lee Nunley officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 9 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ellis, a resident of Ringgold, Passed away Sunday, April 11, in Bossier City. She was a retired physical therapist assistant from Northwest State School, with 20 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Clara Tompkins and her brother, James Tompkins.
She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Ellis of Ringgold; children, Peggy Shows and husband Jim, Kay Boykin and husband Robert, Andrea Rowell and husband Richard, Richard Allen Ellis, and Nancy Cole, all of Doyline; grandchildren, Thomas Watson, Daphne Jones, Tonya Joplin, Erica Herren, Clint Carter, Tiffany Cole, Rikki Ellis, Heather Rowell, Justin Rowell and Ashley Boykin; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Edward Merritt Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Edward W. Merritt Jr., 86, will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 14, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Gibsland with the Rev. Lamar Skinner officiating and Dr. Richard May assisting. Burial will follow at Gibsland Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia.
Mr. Merritt, a native and resident of Gibsland, Passed away Tuesday, April 13, in Gibsland. He worked with the Louisiana Highway Department. He was a member of the boards of deacons, First Baptist Church director, Gibsland Bank and Trust, Lions Club, American Legion, Masonic Lodge and the Shriner’s Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Merritt.
He is survived by his brother, Frank Merritt of Gibsland; sister, Wilfred Merritt Richardson of Minden; one nephew; three nieces on the Merritt side of the family; and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Tom Martin, Gordon Still, Mike Merritt, Buck Shaffer, J.P. Fields, Glyn Fallin and R.P. Thomas.

Lucy Simmons
Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy Boudreaux Simmons, 98, will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Minden. Rosary will be held from 2 until 2:30 p.m., at the church. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 1 until 2 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Simmons Passed away Monday, April 5, at her residence, St. Joseph’s Haven in Arlington, Texas .
Mrs. Simmons was a graduate of Louisiana State Normal College, Natchitoches, Louisiana . She was a long-time resident of Minden where she was a charter member of St. Paul Catholic Church and a member of St. Paul’s Altar Society.
She will be remembered for a life spent in unfailing love and service to her family, friends and church. Trusting in God, she gracefully endured the infirmities of old age.
Her family gives thanks for the gift of her life and expresses their sincere gratitude to Paul and Carol Denning, their staff, caregivers and volunteers at St. Joseph’s Haven and to her attending physician, Dr. Margaret Basiliadis, all who provided Mrs. Simmons with excellent and loving care, allowing her to live her final years in dignity and peace.
Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray E. Simmons, on December 21, 1974, after 45 years of marriage; and by her eldest son, Dr. Ray E. Simmons, Jr., on July 15, 2002.
She is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Simmons Almond and her husband Turner of Fort Worth, Texas ; son, James C. Simmons and his wife Annette of Alexandria; daughter-in-law, Melba Simmons of Bunkie; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial masses or memorial gifts to St. Paul Catholic Church or charities of choice.

Jimmie Hill
Funeral services for Mr. Jimmie Lee Hill were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Jamestown. Burial followed at Moore Cemetery in Heflin under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.

Ethylene Morgan
Funeral services for Mrs. Ethylene Lolley Vascocu Morgan will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton. Burial will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Morgan Passed away Saturday, April 10, after a courageous battle with cancer. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her little dog. She will be dearly missed by a host of friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Whit Vascocu and Joe Morgan.
She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ellen Griffith and husband Leroy; their children, Mark Griffith and wife Melissa and Sherrie White and husband Hewitt; son, Emmitt Witt Vascocu Jr. and wife Sheila, and their children, Triston Gerstmann, Emily Bynog, Christopher Vascocu, Ariel Vascocu and Marissa Wright; brother, Ted Lolley; sister, Judy Tinsley and husband Joe; and numerous friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the American Cancer Society.

Ulysses Sullivan
Funeral services for Mr. Ulysses Sullivan will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Sweet Home Baptist Church in Shongaloo. Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Homer under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.

Estelle Burch
Graveside services for Mrs. Estelle Harris Burch, 71, were to be held at 10 a.m., today, April 9, 2004, at Union Springs Cemetery in Shongaloo with her nephew, Gary Knighten officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Burch, a native of the Ivan Community and a resident of Minden, Passed away Wednesday, April 7, in Shreveport.
She is survived by her husband, Huey Burch of Minden; daughter, Sherry Lynn Ballew of Poteau, Okla.; sisters, Louise Sugg, Bernice Cook, Sadie Franklin, all of Heflin, Shirley Pourteau of Shreveport, and Geraldine Duck of Cotton Valley; and granddaughter, Brianne Ballew.

Eddie Lee Austin
Funeral services for Mr. Eddie Lee Austin, 79, were to be held at 10 a.m. today, April 8, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Troy Parker officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Athens.
Mr. Austin, a native of Athens and a resident of Minden for 55 years, Passed away Tuesday, April 6, in Shreveport. He was a service manager for Tommy’s Tire and was in the United States Air Force during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Austin of Minden; two sons, Dennis Austin and wife Harriet of Shreveport, and Eddie Wayne Austin of Minden; one daughter, Kathy Childers and husband James; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Connie McKinnon
Funeral services for Mrs. Connie Yvonne McKinnon, 45, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Bill Ichter officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. today, April 8, at the funeral home.
Mrs. McKinnon, a native of DeRidder and a resident of Bossier City, Passed away Tuesday, April 6, in Shreveport. She was formerly employed by SWEPCO.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ardell McKinnon.
She is survived by her mother, Evelyn Elzey McKinnon of Minden; brother, Delvin McKinnon and wife Linda of Minden; sister, Debra Matherne and husband Owen of French Settlement; nieces, Valerie McKinnon of Minden and Hannah Matherne of French Settlement; nephews, Zachary McKinnon of Minden, Seth, Joseph, Philip, John and David Matherne, all of French Settlement and special friend, Joey Mills.
Pallbearers will be Steve Dowings, Danny Taverner, Jeffrey Taverner, Robert W. Strong, James W. Weaver and Roger Dale Weaver.

William Hilyer
Funeral services for Mr. William Wade Hilyer, 55, will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 7, 2004, at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Warbington officiating. Burial will follow at Tulip Cemetery in Athens under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Hilyer, a native of Athens and a resident of Minden, Passed away Monday, April 5, in Minden. He was a retired truck driver for Bordens.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Hilyer of Minden; three sons, Kevin Chandler, Greg Hilyer, and Cody Hilyer, all of Minden; one daughter, Deborah Jolene Hilyer of Minden; one stepdaughter, Kathy Vacquez of Laredo, Texas ; one sister, Barbara Colvin of Simsboro; one brother, George Wayne Hilyer of Arcadia, and two step-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Steve Gantt, Mark Smith, Jeff Delano, Lin Gantt, Rodney Colvin and Steve Avery.

James R. Parker
Funeral services for Mr. James R. Parker, 81, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Ronnie Whitlock officiating and Carolyn Parker assisting. Burial will follow at White Hall Cemetery in Leton.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 9 p.m. today, April 7, at the funeral home.
Mr. Parker, a native of Shongaloo and a resident of Minden, Passed away Monday, April 5, in Springhill. He was a machinist for International Paper in Springhill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alowe Almond Parker; son, Billy Parker; stepbrother, James Lee Hood; half-brother, Luther Gerald Parker; brother, W.H. Parker; and sister, Mary Travis Childs.
He is survived by his sister, Elsie O. Butcher of Cottage Grove, Ore.; brothers, J.W. Parker Jr. and wife Betty of Springhill, and Roderick H. Parker and wife Carolyn of Sarepta; sister-in-law, Dusty Parker of Nacogdoches, Texas ; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.

Joe Flucas
Funeral services for Mr. Joe Willie Flucas will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at St. Rest Baptist Church in Minden. Burial will follow at Sheppard Street Cemetery under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Flucas was born Feb. 8, 1916 in Claiborne Parish. His parents were the late Lizzie Thomas and Bloyd Flucas. He was one of many sisters and brothers.
As a young man, he served in the United States Army. He worked several jobs as he traveled the country. He retired from employment at First Baptist Church in Minden. He enjoyed helping people; therefore he volunteered his service to several civic organizations including NAACP, UCAP, and the American Legion. He became a member of Usher Ministry, where he served until his health declined. He was a member of Sunday School class #1. He was a member of the Benevolent and Visitation Ministry, and he also enjoyed planting big gardens and helping other people with their gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Lillie Mae Flucas; one son, Douglas Flucas of Seattle, Wash.; one stepson, Billy Wright and wife Ruthie; two stepdaughters, Joyce Mack and Linda Washington and husband William; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lizzie Thomas and Jimmie L. Dunn and husband Willie C. of Homer; one brother, Cleo Montgomery of LaPorte, Texas ; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
