Funeral services for Mrs. Ann Machen Harrison, 67, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Bailey Mortuary, Inc., in Springhill with the Rev. Ray Spiller officiating. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. today, April 6, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Harrison, a native of Minden, Passed away suddenly Monday, April 5, in Ruston. She was born May 29, 1936 to Robert Odell and Lela Martin Machen. She was a resident of Arcadia, member of First United Methodist Church and was a receptionist for Cedar Creek School in Ruston.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Tine H. Harrison of Arcadia; daughters, Tacie H. Farnam and husband R. Lloyd of North Richland Hills, Texas , Kim H. Moak and husband Scott of Arcadia; grandchildren, Ridge and Noah Farnam, Samantha and Hannah Moak; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R.O. Machen Jr. of Evergreen; cousin, Martha Jane Horne of Springhill; and a host of nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Templin, Kenneth Cone, Wess Machen, A.J. Aycock, Olin Machen, Steve Cone, Jason Lawrence, Jim Lawrence and Billy Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ann Harrison Scholarship Fund c/o Cedar Creek High School, 2400 Cedar Creek Dr., Ruston LA 71270.

Alma Mitchell
Funeral services for Ms. Alma Jo Mitchell, 50, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton with the Rev. Ron Hehnke officiating. Burial will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 9 p.m. today, April 6, at the funeral home.
Ms. Mitchell Passed away Friday, April 2, following an accident. She was a native of Bossier City and was a dedicated employee of General Motors since 1980.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jewel Harris and sister, Wanda Johns.
She is survived by her father, Leamon Mitchell Sr.; brother, Leamon Mitchell Jr.; sisters, Lizzie Mitchell, Connie Papillion and husband Jacob, Brenda Malone and husband Steve, Lori davis and husband James; stepsister, Bessie Shaw and husband Ed; stepbrother, Robert Page; nieces, Amy Hill, DeAnna Williams, Ashley Mitchell, Tiffany Mitchell, Brittany Papillion; nephews, Darrell Johns, Dawson Johns, Larry Alan LaBlanc Jr., Jason Lee Collins, Christopher Harris, Joshua Alexander, Jeremy Alexander, Jessie Alexander; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and coworkers.
Pallbearers will be Robert Campbell, James Davis, Michael Williams, Charlie Ferguson, Johnny Martin and Sherman Wilson.

Ulysses Sullivan
Funeral services for Mr. Ulysses Sullivan will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at Sweet Home Baptist Church in Shongaloo. Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Homer under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.

Eloise Slay
Funeral services for Mrs. Eloise Hubier Slay were to be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at the West Chapel at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Crider, minister to the senior adults at Minden FBC, and the Rev. Bill Ichter, chaplain at Minden Medical Center, officiating. Burial was to follow at Forest Park West Cemetery in Shreveport, with the Rev. Bill Crider conducting the graveside service. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation was to be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. today, at the church.
Mrs. Slay Passed away Saturday, April 3, following a lengthy illness. She was born Jan. 12, 1915 in Converse, and lived in Minden since 1948.
She was the last surviving member of the Class of 1931 of Converse High School. She graduated from Northwestern State (Normal) College and began a long teaching career in 1935 in Converse. She completed a master’s degree in education from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in 1957. From 1949 until her retirement in 1974, she taught music in the schools of Webster Parish. During those years, hundreds of students at Richardson and Stewart Elementary Schools in Minden learned about history, holidays, patriotism, family and faith through the songs she taught them.
She had been a member of First Baptist Church in Minden for 55 years and was active in the Chapel Sunday school class until health problems kept her from attending. For several years, she taught a sixth grade girls’ Sunday school class at the church. She was also a member of the Converse chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Retired Teachers’ Association.
Felix R. Slay, her husband of 53 years, Passed away in 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Elmer A. Hubier Sr., and Laura Burkett Hubier; and her brothers, Ralph Hubier and E.A. Hubier Jr., all of Converse.
She is survived by two sons, William Ralph Slay of Minden, and Dr. Larry Elmer Slay of Shreveport; two granddaughters, Angela Slay and Leah Slay Pearce, both of Alexandria; four great-grandchildren, Charles Paul McTire, Jacob Christopher McTire, Victoria Lea White , and Kalli Kristine White , all of Alexandria; and her faithful caretaker and friend over the past four years, Jacqueline D. Jackson and her husband Billy of Princeton.
Family members were to serve as pallbearers.

Mildred Dunn
Graveside services for Mrs. Mildred Ozella Dunn, 87, were held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2004, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Methvin officiating. Services were under the direction of Bailey Mortuary in Springhill.
Mrs. Dunn, a native of Strong, Ark., and a resident of Minden, Passed away Thursday, April 1, in Minden, following a lengthy illness. She was born Jan. 29, 1917. She was a member of the Baptist faith and a retired nurse’s aid.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Donahoe McDaniel.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Kelly McCallister and husband Morgan of Minden, John B. McDaniel Jr. and wife Katy of Dallas, Texas ; and great-grandchildren, Michael, Logan and Matthew.

Norphlet Powers
Funeral services for Mrs. Norphlet Tannehill Powers, 89, of Urania were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Urania United Methodist Church in Urania with the Rev. Curtis Carroll officiating. Burial followed at Winnfield City Cemetery under the direction of Riser Funeral Home in Olla.
Mrs. Powers, a native of Winnfield, Passed away Thursday, April 1, at her residence. She was born Jan. 7, 1915 to Clarence E. and Bertie Foshee Tannehill. She was a retired school teacher, having taught school in Webster and LaSalle parishes. She was a member of Urania United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Henry James Powers.
She is survived by her brother, William M. Tannehill of Urania; and her nieces and nephews, Steve Tannehill of Urania, Janet T. Matter of Calhoun, Inez T. Fragala of Archibald, Robert Tannehill of Houston, Texas , Peggy West of Hartford, Conn., and Grey Powers of Dallas, Texas .
Pallbearers were Danny Corley, Don Corley, Wayne Corley, Mike Corley, Gary Wilson and Jay Ivy.

Sarah Willis
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Margaret Madden Willis, 32, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at First United Methodist Church in Minden. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today, April 5, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Willis, a resident of Minden, Passed away at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 2, in her home. She was a beloved mother, daughter and sister.
She was active in Ducks Unlimited on a parish, state and national level and was chairwoman of the Webster Parish DU chapter for the last five years. The Green Wing Program for children she inaugurated locally is now the benchmark of Green Wing Programs nationwide. During her tenure, the parish chapter raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for DU, an international nonprofit wetlands, waterfowl, and wildlife conservation organization.
She has served on the board of Minden Medical Center and on the board of Glenbrook School and chaired many school activities. She was on the board of Hillman House in Shreveport and of Madden Contracting Company, a family-owned firm. She was an active participant and contributor to the annual St. Jude’s auction in Minden. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Minden.
Sarah was an avid horsewoman and was in the early stages of establishing a riding school at Flyway Farm, her home in Minden, her lifelong dream.
She was a graduate of Glenbrook School, class of 1989, and attended Hollins College in Virginia before transferring to Louisiana Tech, where she met her husband, Jason, who also Passed away Friday. She graduated with a bachelor of arts in management in 1993.
She is survived by her daughters, Savannah Margaret Willis and Catherine Trawick Willis of Minden; her parents, James and Lyda Madden; three brothers, Steven Douglas Madden, David Scott Madden and John Alan Madden, and her paternal grandmother, Johnye Mizell Madden, all of Minden; her brother’s children, Ashley, Erin, Matt, Will, Caroline, Levi, Jake and Bailee; and numerous aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Webster Parish Library, Children’s Section, 521 East & West Street, Minden LA 71055.

Jason Willis
Funeral services for Mr. Jason Kavanaugh Willis, 34, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at First United Methodist Church in Minden. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today, April 5, at the funeral home.
Mr. Willis, a resident of Minden, Passed away Friday, April 2, in his home. He was a 1987 graduate of Cedar Creek High School in Ruston. He graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 1991 with a bachelor of arts in marketing. He continued his studies at the Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, where he received a degree in physical therapy in 2001. He was co-owner of Performance Physical Therapy in Minden.
In addition to his professional interests, Jason loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, coaching his daughters’ ball teams, and was an accomplished triathlete. Jason and his family were active members of First United Methodist Church in Minden.
He is survived by his daughters, Savannah Margaret Willis and Catherine Trawick Willis of Minden; his mother, Charlene Smith Willis of Minden; his father, Howard Morton Willis of Winston-Salem, N.C.; his brother and sister-in-law, Shubert and Pam Willis of Ruston, and their children, Michael, Marc, Dash and Annabeth; his grandmother, Elna Kavanaugh Willis of Ruston; aunts and uncles, Nan Stevens of Farmerville, Randy and Rita Smith of Shreveport, Richard and Susan Pyles of Ruston, Prentiss Newton Willis of Ruston, Martha Willis Till of Linville; and numerous cousins.

Billy Allen Sr.
Funeral services for Mr. Billy Graham Allen Sr., 76, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Old Sarepta Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Woolley officiating. Burial will follow at Old Sarepta Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Inc.
Visitation will be held at 4 p.m., today, April 2, at the funeral home.
Mr. Allen, a native of Sarepta, Passed away suddenly, Wednesday, March 31, in Sarepta. He was born April 10, 1927, to Joseph Emmit and Willie Vay Bigby Allen. He was a lifelong resident of this area, member of Old Sarepta Missionary Baptist Church and retired after 32 years of service from the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Rena Robin Allen; and a son, Billy G. Allen Jr.
He is survived by his daughter, Debbie A. Dyer and husband Monty of Atlanta, Texas ; two sons, Robin M. Allen, Bobby Joe “Joey” Allen; daughter-in-law, Pam Gillespie Allen; brother, Bobby Allen; sisters, Cortez McCroskey, all of Sarepta, Shirley Ivy of Cotton Valley; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Matthews, Wayne Weems, Jared Weems, Jeremy Allen, Chris Butts, Jay Gidons, Ricky Pace, Eddie Pace, Phillip Burns and Charles Grupp.

Mildred T. Batton
Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred T. Batton, 85, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer with Dr. Richard May officiating and the Rev. Paul Gray assisting. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 9 p.m. today, April 2, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Batton, a resident of Homer, Passed away Wednesday, March 31, at Homer Memorial Hospital. She was a homemaker, beloved mother, grandmother and friend. She loved her Lord and her church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Loys Batton; five brothers; and one sister.
She is survived by one son, C.L. “Buster” Batton Jr. and wife Peggy of Arcadia; four daughters, Louise Reeve of Homer, Mildred Wright and husband Kerry of Mansfield, Earlene Prince and husband Tommy of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., and Barbara Murry and husband Charles of Homer; one sister, Myrtle Lee Casselman and husband Paul of Minden; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Eugene Wright, Ricky Caddy, Allan Wright, Steven Amiri, Scott Lawrence, Bill Low, Ted Raley, Tommy Clarke and alternate Thomas Sharpling.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holly Springs Baptist Church.

James Smith
Funeral services for Mr. James Curtis Smith, 76, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Bailey Mortuary, Inc., in Springhill with the Rev. Randy Wilson and the Rev. Ronald Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites.
Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 2, at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith Passed away Thursday, April 1, in Springhill, following a lengthy illness. He was born Dec. 30, 1927 in Austin, Texas , to the Rev. Ady James and Minnie Lou Parker Smith. He was a resident of Springhill for 62 years and a member of Eastside Baptist Church. He served as mayor of Springhill from 1986 until 1994, prior to city alderman for 12 years and Webster Parish School Bus Driver for 20 years. He was also a member of the Springhill Masonic Lodge #348 F&AM, El Karubah Shrine Club, Springhill Shrine Club, was active in all civic and community activities. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting and fishing. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, James Wayne Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lessie Dees Smith; son, Roger Smith and wife Becky, all of Springhill; daughter, Nancy Smith Hanson of Cotton Valley; nine grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.
Pallbearers will be Masons.

Cleo Stewart Weston
Funeral Services for Mrs. Cleo Stewart Weston, 88, will be held Saturday, April 3, 1:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. John Cole, officiating. interment will follow at the Growing Valley Cemetery.
Cleo Weston was born October 4, 1915 in Minden, LA. She departed this life on March 29, 2004 in Shreveport, LA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Leslie Odom Stewart and her husband, Victory Weston.
Cleo Weston is survived by two sons, Victor Weston of Stockton, CA and Richard Weston of Minden, LA; seven daughters, Elizabeth Bell of East Palto, CA, Nellie Ruth Rushing, Ruby Rice, Clotis Thomas, Lessie Iverson, and Jannis Weston, all of Minden, LA, and Inez Smith of Shreveport, LA; one brother, Robert Stewart of Redwood City, CA; one sister, Velma Jordan of Stockton, CA; twenty-eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 2 in the chapel of Kennon’s Mortuary, Inc. with Family Hour from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Services are entrusted to Kennon’s Mortuary.

Jimmie Lee Austin
Funeral services for Mrs. Jimmie Lee Austin, 63, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. John Markley officiating. Burial will follow at Old Athens Cemetery.
Visitation will be held until time of services at the funeral home.
Mrs. Austin, a native of Minden and a resident of Athens, Passed away Monday, March 29, in Bienville. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W. Marvin Wrenn II, and Jimmie Cosper Wrenn, and Sister, Mary Frances Woodall.
She is survived by her husband, Alfred A. Austin of Athens; daughters, Terry Lynn Lawson of Jamestown, Tammy Marie Bolyer of Bienville, Angie Lee Hudson of Minden; sister, Jannie Wrenn Zeitz of Minden; brothers, Russell D. Wrenn of Minden and W. Marvin Wrenn III of Bossier City; 10 grandchildren, Crissy Lane Lawson, Charles Lane Lawson Jr., Melissa Marie Bolyer, Andrew Bolyer Jr., Henry Randal Hudson, Desirea Roxanne Wages, Nicki Nicole Bolyer, Angilee Diamond Merrell, Harley Ray Freeman and Ryan Lee Hudson; two great-grandchildren, Julianna Laine Lawson and Kent Ramsey Mauthe; and special dog Sammie.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Bolyer, Lamar White , Joseph Norman, Tony Bolyer, Randal Hudson, and Derrick Pennington. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Lawson and Kee Bryan.
