Callie Loflin
Funeral services for Mrs. Callie Smith Loflin, 84, were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2004, at Antioch Baptist Church in Minden with the Rev. Danny Warbington officiating and the Rev. Malcolm Self assisting. Burial followed at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Loflin, a native of Franklin Parish and a resident of Minden, Passed away Friday, March 5, at Homer Memorial Hospital in Homer. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, John T. Loflin, Richard Martin and W.S. Reeves; and son, Robert Reeves.
She is survived by her daughter, Ruth E. Branch and husband James of Minden; seven grandchildren, Debbie Walker, Pam Welch, Sandie Sullivan, Kenny Branch, Chris Branch, Melissa Chamblee and Kyle Branch; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Kenny Branch, Chris Branch, Kyle Branch, Keith Reeves, Walter Monroe, Ronnie Welch, Melvin Smith and Buddy Smith.

Syble Walker
Graveside services for Mrs. Syble Jennings Walker were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004, at Gibsland Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Walker, a native of Gibsland, Passed away Wednesday, March 3, in San Antonio, Texas . She was born July 27, 1915.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claud Laurence Walker.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Walker Renick and husband Coleman of San Antonio; son, Charles Claud Walker and wife Susan of Doyline; one grandchild, Sutton Aldrich of Buffalo, Texas ; sister, Bess Nowery of Shreveport; and brother, Wayland R. Jennings of Houston, Texas .
Memorials may be made to The Cancer Therapy and Research Center, 8122 Datapoint, San Antonio, TX 78229. Ozzie Chatman
Funeral services for Mrs. Ozzie Chatman will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004, at New Hope CME Church in Minden. Services are under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Family hour will be held from 8 until 9 p.m. today, March 5, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Chatman Passed away Friday, Feb. 27, at Willis-Knighton Hospital in Shreveport.
She is survived by her husband, Kirlin Chatman; two daughters, Dorothy Small and Deloris Chatman, both of Shreveport; and a host of relatives.

Billy Ray Smith
Funeral services for Mr. Billy Ray Smith, 57, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004, at Holmes Memorial Temple Church of God in Christ with Superintendent Roy Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery in Ringgold under the direction of Kennon’s Mortuary, Inc. in Minden.
Visitation will be held today, March 5, at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith is survived by his son, Jimmy Ray Holmes of Houston, Texas ; five sisters, Delphas Stutson, Dorothy Smith, both of Minden, Hazel Tillman, Brenda Brown, both of Heflin, and Karen Smith of Dallas, Texas ; four brothers, Willie Smith of Dallas, Lidge Smith Jr., John Richard Smith and Edward Smith, all of Houston; two grandchildren; two aunts, Mary Wilson and Beatrice House, both of Houston; one uncle, Henry Wilson of Minden; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Myra Britt
A memorial service for Mrs. Myra Ellen Triplett Britt, 71, will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004, at Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Minden.
Mrs. Britt, a native of San Diego, Calif., and a resident of Minden, Passed away Tuesday, March 2, in Minden. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her sons, Hubert Britt and John Michael Britt, both of Florida; sisters, Joyce Burdette of Texas , Della Fort of Iowa and Margaret Hayes of Minden; and one brother, John Gilbert Triplett of California.

Margaret Newberry
Margaret Fogle Newberry, a former instructor at Louisiana State University, Passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2004, after a lengthy illness. She was born Sept. 14, 1915 in Sibley, and spent her childhood in Minden before attending Louisiana State Normal College in Natchitoches.
She taught in the high schools of Bossier Parish before starting a college teaching career at LSU, from which she retired. She was married to Millard C. Newberry, and they continued to live in Baton Rouge until his death in 1989. He is buried in the Fogle family plot at Minden Cemetery, where she will also be buried. She was a member of University Baptist Church.
She is survived by her brother, Redrick B. Fogle of Baton Rouge; her sister, Lavinia “Bitsy” Fogle of Dallas, Texas ; and a large group of nephews and nieces.
Services are under the direction of Rabenhorst Funeral Home in Baton Rouge.

Lillie B. Taylor
Funeral services for Mrs. Lillie B. Taylor will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004, at New Light Baptist Church in Minden. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Ada Taylor under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Family hour will be held from 6 until 7 p.m., Friday, March 5, at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband Elie Taylor Jr.; one daughter, Sheila R. Taylor of Clear Lake, Texas ; two sons, Timothy W. Taylor and wife Chiquita of Arlington, Texas , Fredrick C. Taylor and wife Antionette of Los Angeles, Calif.; one adopted son, Charles Harris of Minden; four stepdaughters, Mary Rigsby and husband Arnold of Pensacola, Fla., Marie Spivey of Maywood, Ill., Regina Lawson of Chicago, Ill., Deidra AlMubdi and husband Ghani of Las Vegas, Nev.; one godchild, Kayla Ferrell of Minden; two sisters, Linda Lewis of LaPorte, Texas , Kathy Nelmas of Minden; four brothers, Troy Merritt and wife Golester, Joseph Merritt Jr. and wife Ora Nell, Booker T. and wife Roslyn, all of Homer, John W. Merritt and wife Debra of Cedar Hill, Texas ; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and friends.

Sue Pennington
Funeral services for Ms. Sue Carol Fabre Pennington, 55, were to be held at 11 a.m. today, March 2, 2004, at Ibert’s Mortuary in Patterson with Monsignor Richard Greene officiating.
Burial was to follow at Ibert’s Memorial Park Cemetery.
Ms. Pennington, a native of Morgan City and former resident of Dubberly, and a resident of Bayou Vista, Passed away Saturday, Feb. 28, at 9:30p.m. at her residence. She retired from Bell South after over 20 years of dedicated service.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Annemarie Sittler Fabre; and one sister, Carmen Ann Fabre.
She is survived by one son, Dale Pennington Sr. and his wife Harriet Robin Pennington, of Hot Springs, Ark.; one daughter, Erika Pennington of Oswego, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Dale Pennington Jr. and Brittany Pennington, both of Hot Springs; her father, Everett W. Fabre of Bayou Vista; four sisters, Helen F. Blythe and her husband James E. Blythe Sr., of Dubberly, Penny F. Martin and her husband Lanny Martin Sr., of Morgan City, Cathy F. Sartwell of Bayou Vista and her husband Richard Sartwell Sr. of Howell, Mich., and Crystal F. Harrison and her husband John Harrison II of Bayou Vista; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dale Pennington Sr., James Blythe Sr., James Blythe Jr., Everett Fabre, Sheffie Fabre and Jeremy Harrison.

Mary Garrett
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary G. Almond Garrett will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Beech Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Whitlock officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. today, March 1, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Garrett Passed away Saturday, Feb. 28, at Minden Medical Center. She was born on Nov. 11, 1911, and was a lifelong resident of Webster parish. She was a member of Beech Springs Baptist Church, where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher and church secretary/treasurer for 40 years. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Turner Lumber Co.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cortez Garrett; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vander Almond; two brothers, Ernest and Turner Almond; and a nephew, Bobby Almond.
She is survived by her nephews, Turner Almond Jr., Richard Garrett, Bruce Garrett, Larry Garrett, and Rodney Matzko; nieces, Gwendolyn McKellar, Jamie Gaithen, Peggy Nelson, Martha Strickland, Elaine Hertlein and Julia Matzko; two brothers-in-law, J.B. Garrett and W.J. Garrett; and sister-in-law, Annie Ruth Matzko.

Theodore Harris
Funeral services for Theodore Reece Jensen Harris, will be held at 1 p.m. today, March 1, 2004, at Winnfield Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.
“Perch” Passed away Wednesday, Feb. 25. He was the second born of twins on July 30, 2003, at 9:34 a.m. Weighing only one pound 10 ounces, he spent the first part of this life in the NICU department of Willis-Knighton South. After many battles, he was able to come home with his parents in November 2003.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Edwin and Irene Jensen, Hardy and Mabel Walker and Dennis and Survillar Harris.
He is survived by his loving parents, Thedrick and Clarissa Harris; big brother, Jalen; twin brother, Thedrick Jr.; paternal grandparents, Welton and Thelda Harris; maternal grandmother, Elaine Jensen; one uncle, Tywan Jensen; four aunts, Weltonia Harris, Kelly Tschopp, Hardette Harris and Hydeia Jensen; cousin, Bianca Nieves; two great-uncles, Don Jensen and wife Carole, Dean Jensen and wife Nancy; a host of special uncles and aunts, Jerry and Kenyetta Johnson , Carey and Keisha Broudy, Shannon and Sylvia Cornelius, Corey and CaRhonda Parham, Daiquiri and Brandy Powell, Kavin and Tiffany Crawford, Steven and Cindy Grant, Jason Cooper, Perry and Chandra Daniel, Stephen and Africa Price and Nick Norris; two very special women, Denise Young, who has been present since his very first breath, and Glenda Chandler, his loving caregiver; plus his extended family at the Shreveport Times.

F.M. Liles
Graveside services for Mr. F.M. Liles will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at Old Athens Cemetery in Athens. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Liles, a resident of Minden, Passed away Saturday, Feb. 28, at Minden Medical Center, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 16, 1935, in Athens, and resided in Minden for many years. He, along with his wife and son, were the owners of Liles Fiberglass Works.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Hammontree; and father, Alton “Cotton” Liles.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sue Liles of Minden; one son, Jeff Liles of Minden; one daughter, Kelly Faulkner and husband John of Hot Springs, Ark.; one brother, Bobby Liles and wife Nan of Athens; five grandchildren, Joseph and Kasey David of Hot Springs, Jessica Liles, Felicia Sowell and Bill Jones of Minden; special extended family, Debbie Tubbs, Danny and Mary Ann Jones and Jason and Jennifer Veitch, all of Minden; and a host of numerous nieces and nephews, close family members and countless deer friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Annie Montgomery
Funeral services for Mrs. Annie M. Montgomery, 79, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at St. Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. B.F. Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Sheppard Street Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Miller-Pioneer Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m., today, Feb. 27, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Montgomery, a resident of Minden, Passed away Saturday, Feb. 21, at Minden Medical Center.

Melvin Stanley
Funeral services for Mr. Melvin Harold Stanley, 62, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Tracy Graham officiating and the Rev. Frank DeLoach and the Rev. Terral Lowe assisting. Burial will follow at Minden Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. today, Feb. 27, at the funeral home.
Mr. Stanley, a native of Minden and a resident of Hosston, Passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, in Shreveport. He was a transportation specialist for a trucking company. Mr. Stanley was also a member of Plain Dealing Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Grace Stanley; and his stepmother, Sear Stanley.
He is survived by his daughter, Carren Clark of Pearl, Miss.; son, Mark Sapp of Shreveport; sister, Carol Matlock of Plain Dealing; brother, Dewayne Stanley of Cotton Valley; three grandchildren, Christopher Melvin Stanley, Corey Douglas Clark and Chad Allen Clark; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Douglas Clark and Haley Leann Clark; nieces, Alisa Matlock of Bossier City and Ashley Stanley of Baton Rouge; nephews, Todd Matlock and Trey Matlock, both of Plain Dealing, Josh Stanley of Cotton Valley; special friend, Susan Williams; and first cousin, who was as close as a brother, Jerry Stratton.

Ray Rainey
Funeral services for Mr. Ray Rainey will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at Word of Faith Church in Ringgold with the Rev. Devertis Lard Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Old Castor Cemetery under the direction of Kennon’s Mortuary Inc. in Minden.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lessie Rainey.
He is survived by his son, Michael Ray Rainey of Kansas City, Mo.; daughter, Leashell Williams of Macon, Ga.; two sisters, Beatrice Rainey of Trenton, N.J., and Leatrice Rainey of Shreveport; two brothers, Joe Louis Rainey and Irvin “Beavers” Rainey, both of Shreveport; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Martha Randle of Castor; brother-in-law, James Randle of Creston; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Richard Beam
Funeral services for Mr. Richard Glenn Beam will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Minden with Father Wayne E. Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. today, Feb. 23, at the funeral home.
Mr. Beam, a native of Clarksdale, Miss., was born Jan. 16, 1944.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mayme Lloyd and Walton C. Beam, of Clarksdale, and brother, Elwood Beam of Mississippi.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Beam; children, John Thomas Beam of Minden, Glen Beam and wife Laronda, and their children, Leanne, Amy, and Hannah of Maryville, Tenn.; Deborah McPherson and husband Wayne, and their children, Joey and Carrie Beth of Southhaven, Miss.; Karen Holder and husband Scott, and their child, Sarah of Rowlet, Texas ; siblings, John and Tina Beam of Rena Lara, Miss., George and Bettye Beam of Rena Lara, Charles and Tonie Beam of Goose Creek, Tenn., sister, Faye Spurr and husband Bill of Memphis, Tenn.; and stepchildren, Nancy Sanders and husband Mike and their children, Michael, Cole, Garrett and Kerigan of Minden; Charles Monteforte and his children, Raven and Brooke Monteforte of Minden.
Pallbearers will be Todd Spurlock, Joe MacIsac, Richard Twyman, Mike Leppert, Brad Pevy and Joe Gray.

Fallis Tipton
Funeral services for Mr. Fallis Orwell Tipton, 95, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at the West Chapel at First Baptist Church in Minden with the Rev. Bill Ichter of FBC Minden and the Rev. Jeff Hoffman of FBC Arcadia officiating. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery near Ringgold under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 6 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, at the funeral home.
Mr. Tipton, a resident of Minden, Passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, at Arcadia Healthcare. He was born on a sharecropper’s farm in the Alabama Bend Community near Ringgold. He was the third of seven children born to Mack Tipton and Barnia Shepherd Tipton.
He married Lela “Dolly” Holley on April 15, 1938 and moved to Minden in 1945, where they became members of First Baptist Church. They were active in their respective Sunday School classes and Son Risers until their move to Arcadia in 1998, due to her declining health. Mrs. Tipton Passed away in 2002 after almost 65 years of marriage.
An automobile mechanic by trade, Mr. Tipton volunteered for military service four times, and each time was rejected because he had no vision in one eye. He deeply regretted that he was unable to serve his country during wartime. His service to others was always an important part of his life, however, and he especially loved sharing the bounty of his garden and kitchen with his many friends and neighbors. He was an excellent mechanic, a wonderful cook, and a dearly loved husband, father and grandfather. His keen mind and sharp wit never left him, and were evident right up to the time of his death.
On Aug. 6, 2003, Mr. Tipton married a lovely lady, Katherine Wells McKenzie. They brought much laughter and joy to one another for the brief time they had together.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine; two daughters, Dr. Sandra Gamble of Minden, and Kathy Towns and husband Mike of Arcadia; three grandsons, Captain Jason Towns, USAF, Destin, Fla., Steven Towns and wife Jennifer Towns of Towns Construction Services of Arcadia, and Matthew Gamble, LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans; one great-grandson, Tate Towns of Arcadia; one sister, Maxine McDowell of Bossier City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
