Danna Smith
Danna Scoggins Smith was born on Feb. 1, 1955 in Shreveport to Mrs. Arcile Jefferson Scoggins and the late Booker T. Scoggins Sr. She was the fifth of their seven children.
She turned her life over to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Calm Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. C.L. Townsend. She enjoyed singing in the youth choir.
She attended J.L. Jones Elementary School, J.A. Phillips and Webster High School, graduating in 1973.
She received her bachelor of science from Northeast State University in Monroe. She also attended Northwest Louisiana Technical Institute, receiving degrees in secretarial and data processing, medical terminology transcription and coding and certified nursing assistant.
She was a member of the United States Air Force from August 1985 until August 2003. Her accomplishments included staff sergeant, aircraft armament, system technician (A-10) United States Air Force, Jan. 17, 1986; United States Air Force, Air Force Air University (NCO) Academy, March 21, 1991; United States Air Force, Aircraft Armament System technician (B-52), April 15, 1994; and in September 1993, she received the Air Force Achievement Medal.
She was employed by Schumpert Medical Center, LSU Medical Center, Guest House of Bossier, and Christus Schumpert.
Danna was preceded in death by her father; two brothers, Erdis and Curtis; and two sisters, Denise and Vicky.
She is survived by her husband, Jamie Smith; son, Anthony of Haughton; daughter, Denise La Shae; grandson, Dorian; a very precious mother; one sister, Linda Burdette; one brother, the Rev. Booker T. Scoggins Jr., all of Minden; two stepdaughters, Rugenia Anderson and husband Daier of Waukegan, Ill., Angela Smith of Bossier City; a special sister-inlaw, C. Rosie Smith of Bossier City; a special brother-in-law, John C. Smith of Las Vegas, Nev.; and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mildred Lutz
Graveside services for Mrs. Mildred “Meg” Hooper Lutz, 83, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sibley. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath FuneralHome in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Mrs. Lutz, a resident of Bossier City, Passed away Monday, May 3. She was the daughter of John Hart Hooper and Lillie Belle Turner Hooper. She was born Aug. 8, 1920. Previously of Pottsboro, Texas , Mrs. Lutz was a travel agent and manager in the Pottsboro, Sherman, Dennison, Texas area. She had a love for the travel business and enjoyed many trips. She leaves a lot of memories from her travels. She always had a story to tell about her travels.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husbands, Tom May of Monroe and Tom Lutz of Pottsboro.
She is survived by her sister, Bobbie Wahl of Bossier City; nieces, Leslie Pitts and husband Chester of Haughton; Sheila Lyons and husband Lee of Bossier City; nephew, Travis Vance Jr. and wife Joyce of Vicksburg, Miss., and many sweet nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be her nephews.

Becky Polk
Funeral services for Mrs. Becky Masters Polk, 87, were to be held at 10 a.m. today, May 4, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Jessie Henderson officiating. Burial was to follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Mrs. Polk, a native of Vowelsmill and a resident of Minden, Passed away Monday, May 3, in Minden. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her sons, Wayne R. Polk of Little Rock, Ark., Kenneth M. Polk of Minden, and Earl Polk of Jackson ville, Ark.; daughter, Nita Gould of Olla; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.

Donald Foster
Funeral services for Mr. Donald Eugene Foster, 58, were to be held at 10 a.m. today, May 3, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. John Nations officiating. Burial was to follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Mr. Foster, a native of Gibsland and a resident of Minden, Passed away Friday, April 30, in Minden. He was a mill worker with Willemette Plywood Industry.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mable Foster; father, Samuel Foster; and brother, Billy Ray Foster.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jo Foster of Minden; sons Donald E. Foster of Minden, Samuel Edson Foster and wife Jackie of Doyline; godson, Dixson Smith of Minden; daughter, Helen Christine Logan of Minden; sisters, Betty Ware and husband Ramon of Minden, Sara Page and husband Roy of Castor, Sandra Foster of Minden; brothers, John Foster and wife Linda of Shreveport, and Bobby Wayne Foster and wife Sheila of Shreveport; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Doyla and Helen Gildon of Springhill; sister-in-law, Dina Duck and husband Bobby of Springhill; grandchildren, Colby Foster, Amy Logan, Tommy Logan and Hunter Foster; and step-children, Linda Weaver, Julia Weaver and Nicole Weaver.

Floyd Holtzclaw
Funeral services for Mr. Floyd Edmund “F.E.” Holtzclaw, 93, will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 3, 2004, at Unity Baptist Church with the Rev. John Bennett and W.J. Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at Cotton Valley Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary in Cotton Valley.
Mr. Holtzclaw, a native and lifelong resident of this area, Passed away Saturday, May 1, in Springhill, after a short illness. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church and was a retired operations foreman for CVOC with 40 years of service. He was devoted to his family; was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Ara Vay Kilgore Holtzclaw on Dec. 11, 2003, and daughter, Schery Kay Holtzclaw Taylor .
He is survived by his sons, Charles Edmund Holtzclaw and wife Jimmie, James Lowell “Tootum” Holtzclaw and wife Rebecca, all of Cotton Valley; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.
Pallbearers will be Mike Holtzclaw, Chris Holtzclaw, John Holtzclaw, Tod Holtzclaw, Brandon Holtzclaw and Jason Taylor . Honorary pallbearers will be Brock Holtzclaw, Brady Holtzclaw, Tony Holtzclaw and James “Munchie” Holtzclaw.

Thelma Nesbit
Funeral services for Mrs. Thelma Miller Nesbit, 93, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at Parkway Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Woodard officiating. Burial will follow at Minden Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden..
Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. today, May 3, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Nesbit, a native of Sibley and a resident of Minden, Passed away Saturday, May 1, in Many. She was a nurse aid.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Nesbit; and son, Vermer Nesbit.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Vickers and husband Barry of Converse, and Faye Sikes and husband James of Fountain, Colo.; sister, Addie Mae Henry of El Dorado, Ark.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Henry Maxey
Funeral services for Mr. Henry Cecil Maxey, 65, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Morris Robe officiating. Burial will follow at Sibley Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, April 30, at the funeral home.
Mr. Maxey, a native of Sibley and a resident of Minden, Passed away Wednesday, April 28, in Minden. He worked in the oil field and retired from the Webster Parish Police Jury.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rayville and Louise Maxey.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Mays Maxey of Minden; son, David C. Maxey of Ocala, Fla.; daughter, Cindy Maxey of Minden; sister, Frances Maxey Clement and husband Huey of Minden; and four grandchildren, Brian, Marie, April and Brianna Maxey.
Pallbearers will be Michael O’Brian, Rick Branch, Ricky Daniels, Dean Newman, Eric Streetman and Justin Kopf. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Mays, Bill Slay and Jack Mays.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s choice.

Charlotte Norton
Funeral services for Mrs. Charlotte Renee Davis Norton, 42, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Valley Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Jiles officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Springs Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Miller-Pioneer Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from noon until 7 p.m. today, April 30, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Norton, a resident of Minden, Passed away Sunday, April 25, in Minden.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Norton Jr. of Minden; daughter, Gena Davis of Minden; sons, Radeldrick Davis and Dareldrick Davis, both of Minden; mother, Rosie Davis; sisters, Azzie Brooks and husband Wayne, Ella Law and husband Sammie of Minden; brothers, Ollie Davis and wife Katherine, Donald Gillins Sr. and Robert Gillins, all of Minden.

Dezzie Lee Hawkins
Graveside services for Mrs. Dezzie Lee Hawkins will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Homer. Services are under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Family hour will be held from 9 a.m. until noon, Saturday, May 1, at the funeral home.

Charlotte Norton
Funeral services for Mrs. Charlotte Renee Davis Norton, 42, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Valley Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Jiles officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Springs Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Miller-Pioneer Funeral Home in Minden.

Grace Thompson
Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Elizabeth Thompson, 67, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. T.W. Barnes and the Rev. Bob Rhymes officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, April 29, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Thompson, a native of Doyline and a resident of Evergreen, Passed away Wednesday, April 28, in Minden. She was a supervisor for Evergreen School.
She is survived by her husband, Reta Thompson of Evergreen Community; sons, Ricky Smith of Houston, Texas , Aaron Smith and Alford Smith, both of Sibley, Larry Thompson of Atlanta, Ga., and Don Thompson of Monroe; brother, Cecil Palmer of Springhill, and sister-in-law, Eva Dean; nephew, Gary Palmer; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Bishop Walker
Funeral services for Mr. Bishop Walker will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Palestine Baptist Church in Gibsland. Burial will follow at Wilson and Walker Cemetery in Gibsland under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Family hour will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday, April 30, at the funeral home.
On Aug. 21, 1922, Mr. Walker was born to the late Sarah Dillard and the late Pete Walker of Gibsland. He accepted Christ at an early age and served at Palestine Baptist Church as a faithful deacon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Walker; his parents; and his sister, Leether Walker.
He is survived by his brother, Ozell Walker; niece, Lillie Wells and husband Van Wells, Titus Wells, Glenda Jones, Samantha Wells, Torrance Wells and a host of other relatives, friends and loved ones.

Otha Harris
Funeral services for Mr. Otha Harris, 93, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Morris Robe officiating. Burial will follow at Pawnee Cemetery in Pawnee, Texas .
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, April 28, at the funeral home.
Mr. Harris, a native and resident of Heflin, Passed away Monday, April 26, in Heflin. He was a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Harris; daughter, Joyce Trevino; grandson, Will Wright; granddaughter, Cindy Smith; and two great-granddaughters, Brandi and Stacy Smith.
He is survived by two daughters, Ruby Fairchild and husband Patrick of San Antonio, Texas , Gladys Seymour and husband Huey of Heflin; sister, Love Lee of Minden; grandchildren, Kristl Seymour, Richard Hughes and wife Jenny, Larry Hughes and wife Peggy, Steven Hughes and wife Shara, Danny Seymour, Rusty Seymour, and Donald Wright and wife Cindy; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jesse Joiner
Funeral services for Mr. Jesse Buel Joiner, 80, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Mike Landry officiating. Burial will follow at Tulip Cemetery in Athens.
Visitation will be held after 5 p.m. today, April 26, at the funeral home.
Mr. Joiner, a native of Calion, Ark., and a resident of Doyline for the past 38 years, Passed away Saturday, April 24, in Shreveport. He was a retired purchasing agent with Gym Dandy Manufacturing Co. He served 23 years in the U.S. Air Force, was a member of VFW and the American Legion, and was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Annie Joiner; son, Jerry Joiner and brother, Curtis Joiner.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bettye Joiner of Doyline; one son, Billy Joiner and wife Darcy of Van Vleck, Texas ; one daughter, Kay Chappell and husband Jim of Warrior, Ala.; one step-son, David Cameron of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two step-daughters, Nancy Hoppes and husband Fred and Sharon Priest and husband Myron, all of Washington C.H., Ohio; one sister, Ruby DeMoss of Waskom, Texas ; one brother, Marvin Joiner and wife Dorothy of Fryeburg; and 12 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James Pickett, Danny Harris, Clyde Stanley, Geoffrey Landry, Lyndon Yates and Leonard Woodard Jr.

Laverne Sheley
Funeral services for Mrs. Laverne Sheley will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Charles Wooley officiating and the Rev. Dee Anders assisting. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery in Springhill.
Visitation will be held from 3:30 until 9 p.m. today, April 23, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sheley, a native of Shreveport, Passed away Thursday, April 22, in Springhill. She was born June 10, 1930 to Kennon and Nina Marter. She was a resident of this area for 53 years and a member of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother and an infant son.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Quinton Leroy; sister, Gloria June Smith; her children, George Kennon Sheley and wife Sandra, Ginger Gail Hefner and husband Robert; grandchildren, Brian Keith and Melody Sheley, Kevin Kennon and Amy Sheley, Brad and Kimberly Kay Wells, Adam and Melissa Hefner McCrary, James Quinton Hefner, John David Hefner; great-grandchildren, Brian “Chase” Sheley, Annslee Darlene Sheley, Meghan Kay Sheley, Tristan Jacob “T.J.” Sheley, Stephen “Austin” Wells, Samuel “Peyton” Wells, Elizabeth Clair McCrary and Mason Wayne McCrary.
Pallbearers will be Brian Sheley, Kevin Sheley, Brad Wells, Adam McCrary, James Hefner and Mike Bradley.
