Funeral services for Mrs. Gloria Mercer Sexton, 63, were to be held at 10 a.m. today, April 22, 2004, at Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro with the Rev. Gene Cumpton officiating. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery in Jonesboro.
Mrs. Sexton, a native of Quitman and a resident of Jonesboro, Passed away Wednesday, April 21, at Forest Haven Nursing Home. She was born Oct. 26, 1940. She was a secretary.
She is survived by her two sons, Kenny Ray Irvin and wife Charlotte of Jonesboro, Truett Anson Irvin of Jonesboro; mother, Nova Lee Mercer of Minden; one sister, Nova Rebecca Talton and husband Richard of Minden; one brother, Prentice Neal Mercer and wife Evelyn of Zachary; and three grandchildren, Miranda Bloomfield, Craig Irvin and Kaleb Irvin.
Pallbearers were to be Cody Johnson , Eddie Lee, Richard Talton, Davy Horton, Chester Fredericks and Floyd Walker. Honorary pallbearers were to be Craig Irvin and Kaleb Irvin.

Robert Griffith
Funeral services for Mr. Robert Harry Griffith, 78, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Point Chapel Assembly of God in Doyline with the Rev. Ronald Dunn officiating. Burial will follow at Point Chapel Cemetery in Doyline under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, April 21, at the funeral home.
Mr. Griffith, a native of Heflin and a resident of Doyline, Passed away Tuesday, April 20, in Doyline. He was a mill wright for a carpenters local union.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara B. Griffith of Doyline; three sons, Ray and Barbara Griffith of Ringgold, Robert and Deanna Griffith of Doyline, and Ronald and Shela of Jonesboro; two stepsons, Travis Brimer of Oklahoma and John Brimer of Shreveport; one daughter, Rhonda Kay Pittiman of Jonesboro; two stepdaughters, Sherry Bush and husband Tony of Little Rock, Ark., and Sheila Branch of Bossier City; 22 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Major Kenneth Cheatham
Graveside services with military honors for Major Kenneth Lee Cheatham, 59, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Minden Cemetery with the Rev. Richard May officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today, April 21, at the funeral home.
Major Cheatham, a native of Minden and a resident of Shreveport, Passed away Monday, April 19, in Shreveport. He was a retired major with the U.S. Air Force. He was a Vietnam veteran and a member of Central Baptist Church in Springhill.
He is survived by his mother, Allie Marie White of Bossier City; sister, Barbara C. Tate of Bossier City; brother, James L. Cheatham and wife Doris of Sarepta; and four nieces.
Pallbearers will be the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Celeste White
Funeral services for Mrs. Celeste White , 84, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Jim Crain officiating and the Rev. Don McCormick assisting. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, April 20, at the funeral home.
Mrs. White , a native of Claiborne Parish and a resident of Minden, Passed away Monday, April 19, in Minden.
She worked as a clerk and was also a caregiver for many family members.
She was a longtime member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Minden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry “Shorty” White ; and brothers, Eulas and Roger Wright.
She is survived by two sisters, Merrel Slack of Minden and Tressie Shaw of Bossier City; brother, Billy Ray Wright of Haughton; brother-in-law, Troy Wright and wife Nancy; sister-in-law, Doris Wright; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.

Irene Hickman
Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Gay Hickman, 83, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 2004, at Bailey Mortuary, Inc., in Springhill with the Rev. Todd Pickard officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Coushatta.
Mrs. Hickman Passed away Thursday, April 15, in Springhill, following a lengthy illness. She was born Jan. 27, 1921 in Coushatta to Lomer and Rosie Wiggins Gay. She was a resident of Sarepta, member of New Sarepta Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilton Hickman; and a brother, Louis Gay.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Moseley Murphy and husband Bobby of Minden; son, Shelby Moseley and wife Angie of Haughton; nine grandchildren, Steven Moseley and wife Lynn, Michael Murphy, Mathew Murphy, Chris Curly, Kimberly Curly, Johnny Wayne Woodle, Shelby Moseley Jr., Cissy Moseley, Heidi Moseley; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marie Hall, Wanita Blue, Virginia Geedy and husband Bill, Christine Keeter; and a brother, Harold Gay and wife Evelyn.
Pallbearers were Shelby Moseley Jr., Michael Murphy, Christoper Curly and Johnny Woodle.

Sammie Lee Cato
Graveside services for Mr. Sammie Lee Cato were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Walker Community Cemetery in Gibsland with the Rev. Johnny Dyes officiating. Services were under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Arcadia.
Mr. Cato Passed away Sunday, April 11. He was born to the late Sammie and Martha Richardson Cato on July 24, 1949. He joined St. Matthew Baptist Church in Athens at an early age. He served in the Navy during Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife Deborah Edwards Cato; four children, Holly Cato, Tammy Cato of Bossier City, Quinnton Cato of Irving, Texas , Douglas Lazarus of Haughton; one stepson, Brian Fizer of Dubberly; three brothers, Edward Cato and wife Carolyn of Minden, Melvin Cato and wife Jacqueline and Frederick Cato and wife Debra, both of Gibsland; two sisters, Linda Wilson of Gibsland and Ruby Jones and husband Kenneth of Minden; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and beloved friends.
Pallbearers were Jeffrey Edwards, Kenneth Jones, Ollie Davis, Antoine Nelson, Johnny Shine and Sammie Dixon Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Melvin Cato, Edward Cato, Frederick Cato, Quinnton Cato, Douglas Lazarus and Brian Fizer.

Billy Anderson
A memorial service for Mr. Billy Hammond Anderson, 39, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Richard May officiating.
Mr. Anderson, a native of Shreveport and a resident of Heflin, Passed away Thursday, April 15, in Minden. He was a painter.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Anderson; his mother, Janice Rush; and grandfather, Willie Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Gann; son, Casey Anderson; daughter, Joanie Anderson; sisters, Cindy Guice and husband Mike, and Janet Posey; brothers, Gary Anderson, Paul Anderson and Danny Anderson; niece, Melissa Guice Pate; and nephew, Bryan Guice.

James W. Watson
Funeral services for Mr. James William Watson will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 2004, at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Bill Ichter officiating. Burial will follow at Minden Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 12 until 2 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
Mr. Watson Passed away April 8 at the Minden Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was 84 years of age. He was born May 28, 1919, in Lillie, to Jesse William Watson and Annie Bert Aycock. He attended Summerfield and Homer High Schools and Louisiana Tech. On May 29, 1942, he married Mary Grace Turner of Minden, his wife of 60 years. After the war, they made their home in Minden where she was a teacher and he was an agent for Southern Life Insurance, until his retirement in 1983. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Minden where he taught boys Sunday school for 38 years and served his church in other capacities. He won numerous sales awards with Southern Life Insurance. He was an active member of the Minden Lions Club for more than 50 years. In their retirement years, he and Grace enjoyed their children and grandchildren. They were avid fans of the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters and attended most of their home games.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Turner Watson and his brother,
T.R. Watson of New Iberia.
He is survived by his two sons, Frank Watson and wife Debbie of Kenner, and William Watson and wife Myra of Minden; his grandchildren, Kelsey Watson, Tyler Watson and wife Julie, and Ryan Watson and wife Becky; Matthew Reeves, and Jonathan Reeves; cousin, Jessie Watson and wife Kathleen;, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Renee Johnston, John Watson, Matthew Reeves, Jonathan Reeves, David Pierce, and David Boyd. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Truman Walker’s Friendship Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 301 Pennsylvania Ave., Minden, LA 71055.

Herman Blakeley
Graveside services for Mr. Herman Lee Blakeley, 74, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Coushatta with the Rev. Stan Horton officiating. Services were under the direction of Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home in Coushatta.
Mr. Blakeley, a resident of Bossier City, Passed away Saturday, July 31. He was born June 22, 1930, in Bossier City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Mabel Blakeley; and eight brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Blakeley of Bossier City; two daughters, Jeri Milligan and Laura Lee Blakeley; three sons, Sidney Mack Blakeley, Robert Grady Blakeley and Thomas Edward Blakeley III; and five grandchildren, Jason and Eric Milligan, Ethan, Grayson and Madison Blakeley.

Ebon Ebon "Bud" Corley
Funeral services for Mr. Ebon T. "Bud" Corley Jr., 61, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Minden with the Rev. Wayne DuBose officiating and the Rev. Ed Ethridge and the Rev. Bobby Smith assisting. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, Aug. 3, at the funeral home.
Mr. Corley, a native of Port Arthur, Texas , and a resident of Minden, Passed away Saturday, July 31, at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas . He was the manager of The Bootery. Bud was a kind and generous man who will be remembered for his love for the Lord, his love of people and his great sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ebon T. Corley, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Valeria Allison Corley of Minden; daughter, Allison Corley Harrell and husband Jeff and their children, Hannah, Hayden, Ava and Landon of McKinney, Texas ; sons, Jason Corley of Minden and Jeremy Corley and wife Kasi of Bossier City; mother, Louise Corley Hale; sister, Sylvia and husband Claude Gossett of Lindale, Texas ; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Graydon Kitchens, Joe Ratcliff, Carl Hines, Ronnie Veitch, Paul Kitchens, Ron Hathorn, Tommy Davis and Bobby Grafton. Honorary pallbearers will be MA4 Sunday school class and the Men's Thursday Night Bible Study.
Memorial contributions may be made to the music ministry of First Baptist Church.

Melvin Henry
Funeral services for Mr. Melvin R. Henry, 80, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug.4, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Joe Kilgore officiating and the Rev. Danny Warbington assisting. Burial will follow at Minden Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today, Aug. 3, at the funeral home.
Mr. Henry, a resident of Dixie Inn, Passed away Saturday, July 31, at his residence. He was a truck driver for Gifford-Hill.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Henry of Dixie Inn; three step-sons, the Rev. Joe Kilgore and his wife Codie of Lynchburg, Va., James Curtis Kilgore and his wife, Sharon of Mesquite, Texas , and Donald Kilgore and wife, Ellen of Haughton; one step-daughter, Dianne Hopkins and husband, Melton of Ft. Worth, Texas ; 19 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Ruby Green
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Dell Green will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at Valley Spring Baptist Church in Minden. Services are under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Green, Passed away Monday, July 26, after a lengthy illness at Willis-Knighton Pierremont in Shreveport.
She was born July 14, 1941, to the late Floyd Green of Homer and the late Fannie Mae Welch-Green of Minden. She was a private housekeeper for many years, and made her home in Minden.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jewel Green; and her brother, Thomas "Buster" Green.
She is survived by two sons, Jason Green of Minden, and Michael Ray Green of California; two brothers, Elbert Green of Minden, and R.D. Warren of Battle Creek, Mich.; one sister, Lizzie Dell Jones of Houston, Texas ; a devoted step-sister and cousin, Willie W. Green of Minden; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives.

Alice J. Lee
Funeral services for Mrs. Alice J. Lee, 85, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with Dr. Randy Hale officiating and the Rev. Edward Brown and Richard Noles assisting. Burial followed at Madden Cemetery in Bienville Parish.
Mrs. Lee, a native and resident of Heflin, Passed away Saturday, July 31, in Minden. She was a retired school teacher.
She received her education from Louisiana Tech University and was a retired school teacher, having taught in Caddo and Webster Parishes. She was an active member of Heflin Baptist Church, as long as her health permitted.
She loved her family and friends and showed her love in so many ways by her baking and cooking skills, and many other acts of kindness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orie C. Lee; brothers, John Paul Jones and William Mallory Jones; sisters, Edna Jones Reeves, Irene Jones Smith and Vera Jones Oliphint; and her wonderful parents, Lewis Jones and Talitha Knighton Jones.
She is survived by her son, Stephen C. Lee and wife Christine; sister, Velma Jones Boggs; nephew, David P. Jones and wife Charlotte, and Dr. Lewis C. Jones and wife Ginger; nieces, Linda Kay Banister and husband Mallory Banister, Rosemary Duclo and husband Gene; and great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were the deacons of Heflin Baptist Church.

Drew Pace
Funeral services for Mr. Drew Pace, 76, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 2, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden. Burial will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery.
Mr. Pace, a native of Doyline and a longtime resident of Union Parish, Passed away Friday, July 30, in Farmerville, after a lengthy illness. He was the owner of Pace Seafood Restaurants. He graduated from Northwestern State University after being decorated as a Naval aviator in the Korean War.
His family-operated businesses were many, but he is perhaps best known for the Pace Seafood buffet-style restaurants that he began in 1978, in Bernice.
He will be remembered for his quick wit and caring nature.
His personality was such that customers quickly became friends, and he earned respect and admiration in the communities he served in Louisiana and Arkansas.
He was a member and longtime supporter of Farmerville United Methodist Church. He will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Sally Pace; his wife, Betty Plunkett Pace; his daughter, Drusilla Pace Pate; and his sister, Janice Pace Taylor .
He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Pace; son, Rick Pace; daughter, Heather Pace Hargrave; brother, Sherman Pace; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society of Northeast Hospice.
