Funeral services for Mr. Huey P. Merritt, "Paw Paw," age 69, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden. Burial will follow at Minden Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, July 30, at the funeral home.
Mr. Merritt, a native of Sarepta and a resident of Mooringsport, Passed away Wednesday, July 28, in Shreveport.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Merritt; son, Wayne Langley; sisters, Gertrude, Marie, Beatrice, Lorene and Viola; and brothers, Reubene, Jack and Rosco.
He is survived by his daughters, Carlene Lawson of Gilmer, Texas , Alene Ellis of Sheridan, Texas , Gladene Funk of Leola, Ark., and Olene La Grand of Keatchie; sister, Ruth Boughtnite of Shreveport; brother, J.C. Merritt of Minden; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Eric Matthew Larkin
Graveside services for infant Eric Matthew Larkin were to be held at 10 a.m. today, July 26, 2004, at Minden Cemetery with the Rev. Richard May officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
He is survived by his loving parents, Timothy and Stacie Larkin; two siblings, Vincent and Samantha Larkin; maternal grandparents, Bill and Brenda Lyons; paternal grandmother, Arwilda Shelton; aunt, Suzanne Shockley and husband Keith; and uncle, Clint Lyons.

Louise Tims
Funeral services for Mrs. Louise Tims, 66, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2004, at Bailey Funeral Home in Springhill with Garland Hughes and Ken Gray officiating. Burial followed at Old Sarepta Cemetery.
Mrs. Tims, a resident of Minden, Passed away Thursday, July 22, at Minden Medical Center following a short illness. She was born Sept. 16, 1937 in Coushatta to Alfred and Dorothy Crocker Ezernack. She was a resident of Minden, a member of the Church of Christ and retired from I.H.S. Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joyle Cecil Tims.
She is survived by two sons, Cecil Joe Tims and Richard Lynn Tims, both of Minden; a brother, Raymond Ezernack of Coushatta; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Joey Tims, Stevie Tims, Randall Tims, Blake Tims, Todd Butler and Mark Smiley.

Irven W. Curtis
Funeral services for Mr. Irven W. Curtis, 98, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Lysbeth Cockrell officiating. Burial will follow at Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sibley.
Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. today, July 23, at the funeral home.
A lifelong resident of Sibley, Mr. Curtis Passed away Tuesday, July 20. He was a World War II veteran, a retired grocer and a member of Sibley United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle of Sibley; his brother, Joe Curtis and wife Rita of Springhill; daughter, Bobbie Mills and husband Jerry of Baton Rouge; grandsons, John Mays, Curtis Mays and Nathan Mills; step-grandson, Trace Mills; and great-granddaughter, Brittany Mays, all of Baton Rouge.

Pauline Smith
Funeral services for Mrs. Pauline Webb Smith, 75, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Doyline with the Rev. Charlie Jefferson officiating. Services are under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Smith Passed away at 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, July 20.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Zeach Webb and Willie Jones Webb; one son, L.C. Smith Jr.; one brother, Leon Webb; and one devoted cousin, Ruth Jackson .
She is survived by her husband, L.C. Smith; two children, Paul Smith and wife Debra; Quondra Smith Cole; eight grandchildren; dwo adopted daughters; Ethel Webb Parker and husband Billy of Minden, Paula Denise Parker of Atlanta, Ga.; one adopted son, Bruce Sterling Jr.; one brother, David Webb and wife Katie of Dallas, Texas ; one aunt, Caliner Bray of Doyline; two loving sisters-in-law, Rosie Watson of Doyline, Ruth Webb of Dallas; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Vessie Gibson
Funeral services for Mrs. Vessie Gibson, 87, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Miller-Pioneer Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday, July 23, at the funeral home, with family hour from 5 until 6 p.m.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Louvenia Wade; husband, Sam "Little George" Gibson; son, Jesse Gibson; two sisters, Annie Mae Walker and Luzell Pierce; and one brother, Alma Wade.
She is survived by two sons, Jonathan Gibson and wife Shirley, Oscar Gibson and wife Neta; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Marguerite M. Roberts
Funeral services for Mrs. Marguerite M. Roberts, 88, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2004, at North Acres Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Strother officiating. Burial will follow at Minden Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, July 22, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Roberts, a native of Yazoo County, Miss., and a resident of Minden, Passed away Tuesday, July 20, in Victoria, Texas . She was a member of North Acres Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Leon Roberts; and son, Joe Wilson Roberts.
She is survived by her son, Charles Edward Roberts of Edna, Texas ; daughters, Margie N. Roberts of Victoria, Mary Carter and husband Ronald of Rock Port, Texas ; sisters, Juanita Green of Minden, and Maude Martin of Spring, Texas ; brother, Doyle Martin of Jackson , Miss.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be the deacons of North Acres Baptist Church.

Macy V. Cullens Jones
Mrs. Macy V. Cullens Jones, 83, Funeral services will be held at Antioch Baptist Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Larry Earhart and the Rev. Danny Warbington under the direction of Roseneath Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Minden. Visitation will be held at the funeral home today from 6 until 8 p.m.
Mrs. Jones was born Oct. 11, 192, she went home to be with her Savior after a lengthy illness on July 20. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church until her illness.
Mrs Jones’ children were privileged and honored to take care of her in the last week’s prior and up to her death. She was a wonderful sacrificing mother who loved her children and church family. She was affectionately known as “Mam Maw,” to everyone and loved by so many.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband J.W. Jones and two sons, Mondrad Arlan Jones and John Paul Jones.
She is survived by a sister, Reccie Pittenger of South Bossier City along with eight children, daughters: Melba Smith of Minden, Joyce Smith, Sibley; Fancy Carter, Doyline; Nell Finlay, Cotton Valley; Mary Sanders, Minden. Sons: Homer Jones, Minden; S.J. Jones, Minden; PlD. Jones, Haughton. She had 20 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons; Mel Smith, Terry Sanders, Jr., Bruce Carter, Gary Carter, Don Smith, Jr. and Dr. Wes Girod.
Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Ray Smith, Bobby Morgan and Bubba Byrd.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Carl Hines, Dr. Solita, Dr. Kelly Carlisle and the Minden Medical ICU Staff. Avery special “thank you,” to the hospice employees Barbara, Pam and J.J. for the gentle kindness they showed to our mother as well as to our family.

Norma Ray
Graveside services for Mrs. Norma Louise Plummer Ray, "Nana," 78, will be held at 1 p.m. today, July 20, 2004, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden with the Rev. Larry Earhart officiating.
Mrs. Ray Passed away Sunday, July 18, after a lengthy illness. She was born Feb. 1, 1926, to Edward and Olive Plummer. She had been a resident of Minden for the last 29 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Ray; parents; and brothers, Jerry and Jimmy Plummer.
She is survived by her son, Bill Ray and wife Mary of Crossett, Ark.; daughter, Sandra Gent and husband Paul of Shreveport; son, Danny Ray and wife Kay of Minden; son, Bobby Ray of Shreveport; daughter, Vicki Butler and husband Robert of Minden; 13 grandchildren, Robin Halliburton and husband Lee of Crossett, Scott Ray and wife Melissa of Crossett, Lynn Kilgore and husband Drew of Minden, Lori McGee and husband Nathan of Dallas, Texas , Mike Otwell of Shreveport, Dana Frazier of Minden, Tammy Ray of Minden, Mindy Cherry and husband Allen of Athens, Kim Ray of Minden, Eric Ray of Binghamton, N.Y., Ben Ray of Binghamton, Toby Brown and wife Roxanne of Minden, Tara Edwards and husband Jim of Minden; 17 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Betty Litton, Billy Harrell, both of Cheneyville, Marie Sanders, Ruth Ann Plummer, both of Del City, Okla.; and special friend, Cindy Hollenshead of Homer.

Jack Barnhill Jr.
Mr. Jack Vernon Barnhill Jr., 83, Passed away Thursday, July 15, 2004. In compliance with his wishes, he was to be cremated. A military service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery. His ashes are to be buried in the Columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery alongside his beloved wife of 52 years, Josephine Lombardino Barnhill.
He was born March 11, 1921, in the home of his paternal grandfather in Lineville, Ala. Near the end of his life, Jack was asked if he had been successful in life. He responded, "You bet I have. You should have seen where I came from, how I lived my life and how I concluded it. It has been a great journey."
He spent most of his adult life in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. After the military, he was employed by the federal government and the City of Shreveport. He participated in combat actions in Europe during World War II and in Korea during the first years of conflict. He was privileged to have lived in or visited 56 foreign countries and was conversant in six foreign languages.
He spent most of his retirement years working on his farm raising cattle and assisting the Webster Parish Water Authority and volunteer fire department.
He was preceded in death by his wife, who Passed away Sept. 9, 2001.
He is survived by his son, Jack Vincent Barnhill of Los Angeles, Calif.; his daughter, Victoria Marie Clagett and husband Barry of Vienna, Va., brother, Claude Clifton (Cliff) Barnhill of Minden.
The family requests memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Alverta Calhoun
Funeral services for Mrs. Alverta Pierce Calhoun, 82, were to be held at 10 a.m. today, July 19, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Don McCormick officiating and the Rev. James Crain assisting. Burial was to follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden.
Mrs. Calhoun, a native of Ringgold and a resident of Minden, Passed away Friday, July 16, in Shreveport. She was a line worker with the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant.
She is survived by her daughters, Genetta Botzong and husband Frank of Taylor , Iris Marie Smith and husband Jimmy of Minden, and Dorothy Calhoun of Minden; sister, Nell Ryan of Blanchard; grandchildren, David and Dennis Botzong, and Jimmy Smith Jr.; great-grandchildren, Amber and Heather Botzong, and Jordan and Ryan Botzong, and Ashton and Madison Smith; 13 nieces; and eight nephews.

Merrell Harmon
Funeral services for Mrs. Merrell Carter Harmon, 91, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia with Dr. Johnie Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at Tulip Cemetery near Athens.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 9 p.m. today, July 19, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Harmon, a native of Claiborne Parish and a resident of Ringgold, Passed away Friday, July 16, at her residence. She was a retired LPN nurse.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marse Harmon; son, Dayton Harmon; one brother; one sister; and grandson, Jerry Harmon.
She is survived by her son, Charles Harmon and wife Sarah of Shongaloo; grandchildren, Mary Harris and husband Ken of Haughton, James Harmon of Branden, Fla., Tracy Jo George and husband James of Overton, Texas ; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Dorothy Merritt
Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Mae Merritt, 78, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with Dr. Richard G. May officiating. Burial followed at Minden Cemetery.
Mrs. Merritt, a native of Delark, Ark., and a resident of Mooringsport, Passed away Thursday, July 15, in Vivian. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her daughters, Corleen Lawson of Gilmer, Texas , Alene Ellis of Sheridan, Ark., Gladen Funk of Leola, Ark., and Olene Le Grand of Keitchie; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

J.W. Ryan
Funeral services for Mr. J. W. Ryan, 80 will be held Saturday, July 17 at 2:30 p.m. at Rose-Neath Chapel in Minden. Burial will follow at the Bistineau Cemetery in Heflin, with the Rev. Edward Brown officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held today at the chapel from 5 until 8 p.m.
Mr. Ryan, a resident of Heflin was born in Leo Texas . He Passed away on July 14, in Shreveport. He retired from Wheless Drilling Co.
He is proceeded in death by his wife, Reba C. Ryan and two sisters: Edith Moore and Zella Mae McIntoch.
He is survived by three sons: Dennis J. Ryan of Heflin; Billy Lee Thomas of Kansas City, MO., and Robby M. Thomas of Tuscaloosa, AL. three daughters: Carla McGowen of Aurora, CO., and Shellee Reinisch of Wilmette, IL. one sister, Mildred Luster of Gainsville, TX., 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be: Jay Ryan, Jim McGowen, Kevin Woodall, Keith Goodman, Rusty McGowen and Thad McGowen.

L.T. Bailey Sr.
L.T. Bailey Sr. Passed away Saturday, July 10, following a short illness. He was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Claiborne Parish. He married Rosa Lee White , and they had four children.
As a young adult, he became a member of New Light Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member and dedicated usher until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son.
He is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Rosa Lee Bailey; three children, L.T. Bailey Jr. and wife Donna of Kansas City, Mo., Marie Hampton and husband Willie of Tyler, Texas , and Marilyn Black and husband Dennis of Houston, Texas ; 13 grandchildren, Meshell Givens, Rosalind Shareef, Andrica Dailey, Shelia Bailey, Stephanie Gray, Vivian Armstrong, Jerry Bailey, Donetta Brown, Swanetta Williams, Elisia Reels, Chenoa Williams, Crystal Collins and Simeon Black; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will never forget his love.
