Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Love, a native of Sibley and a resident of Ringgold, Passed away Tuesday, June 29, in Atlanta, Texas . She worked for the Army Air Force Exchange for more than 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Josie A. Waters McKnight; husband, James B. Love; grandsons, Mathew C. Legleu, James Craig McDowell and great-grandson, Blain McDowell.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda McDowell Legleu and husband Jack of Gonzales; sons, John McDowell of Vivan, and James B. Love II and wife Cassandra of Lawton, Okla.; grandchildren, Donna Driscoll and husband Jim of Shreveport, Michele Babin and husband Todd and Tye Legleu, all of Gonzales, John McDowell II and wife Hattie of Warrenton, Ore., Robert McDowell and wife Veronica of Dayton, Texas , Lizzy McDowell of Vivian, Leigh Roper and husband Glen, Capt. USA of Ft. Sill, Okla., Bryant Love, Capt. USA, and wife Nicole of Ft. Bragg, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Kristy Santiago and husband John, S/Sgt. USMC, Okinawa; Summer Driscoll, PO2 USN, of Marietta, Ga., James F. Driscoll IV, Shelby Landen and Jake Babin, all of Gonzales, Dillion Wite of Bradenton, Fla., Chad and Tara McDowell of Warrenton, Ore., Alyson and Ryan McDowell of Dayton, Sara and Ryan Roper of Ft. Sill, Okla., Garrett and Emily Love of Ft. Bragg; great-great-grandchildren, Raegan Driscall of Marrietta and Rylie Driscoll of Gonzales.

Margaret Gruner
Graveside services for Mrs. Margaret Waters Gruner, 88, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2004, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden with the Rev. Bill Crider officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. today, June 30, 2004, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gruner, a native of Webster Parish and a resident of Minden, Passed away Tuesday, June 29, in Minden. She retired in the 1960s as a PBX operator for the Webster Parish Courthouse. She was a beautician and former owner and operator of a salon. She was married to Lynn T. Gruner. Her hobbies were china painting, ceramics, playing piano and organ. She was active at First Baptist Church in Minden as long as her health permitted.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Gabrilla Waters; brother, Donnell Waters; and sister, Chloe Powell Drew.
She is survived by her three nephews, Donald Waters of Ft. Worth, Texas , Charles Waters and John Waters, both of Minden; and niece, Sue Powell Kincaid of Burkburnette, Texas .

Sanford Hattaway
Graveside services for Mr. Sanford "Buddy" Hattaway, 81, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2004, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden with the Rev. Willie Knight officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 9 p.m. today, June 30, at the funeral home.
Mr. Hattaway, a native of Dubach and a resident of Minden, Passed away Tuesday, June 29, in Shreveport. He was a retired truck driver.
He is survived by his wife, Willie Mae Hattaway; son, Alvin McBroom and wife Rita; daughter, Faye Pilcher, all of Minden; sister, Ruth Poland of Dubach; and four grandchildren.

Bobby Loftin
Funeral services for Mr. Bobby Gene Loftin, 66, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Barry Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. today, June 30, at the funeral home.
Mr. Loftin, a native of Coushatta and a resident of Minden, Passed away Monday, June 28, in Bossier City.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Orie Loftin; mother, Minnie Cummings Loftin; brothers, J.P. Loftin, Shed Loftin, Henry Loftin and Lorenze Loftin; brothers-in-law, Paxton Scoggins, Willie Bolding and the Rev. Willie Woodard; and mother-in-law, Mattie Ward.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Pamela Loftin of Minden; father-in-law, James C. Ward; daughters, Lisa McCarthy and husband Glenn of Paris, Texas , Sandy Goodson and husband Robert of Minden; sisters, Betty Jo Thomas and husband Duewayne of Shreveport, Edwina Bolding of Oak Grove, Elsie Scoggins of Mangham, Helen Woodard of Monroe; sisters-in-law, Maurice Loftin of Benton, Edna Loftin of Minden, and Shirley Loftin of Garland, Texas ; grandchildren, Amy McCarthy and Loftin Parker McCarthy of Paris, Cody Goodson of Minden, and Bobby Goodson, United States Marine Corp, stationed at Camp Pendleton; and special friend James Gordon Burt.
Memorials may be made to the H.A.P. House, P.O. Box 87, Barksdale Air Force Base, 71110, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Patron Washington
Funeral services for Mr. Patron Tamario Washington , 31, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2004, at Good Samaritan Baptist Church, where the Rev. Terrence A. McCray Sr. is pastor, with the Rev. Donald R. Franks of New Hope Baptist Church in Port Arthur, Texas , officiating. Burial will follow at Sheppard Street Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Washington Passed away Wednesday, June 23, in Beaumont, Texas . He received his early educational training at J.L. Jones Elementary, J.A. Phillips Middle and Webster Junior High Schools in Minden. At an early age, he joined St. Rest Baptist Church in Minden under the pastorate of Dr. B.F. Martin, pastor emeritus of the church.
He organized the Webster Community Mass Choir at New Light Baptist Church in Minden.
He graduated from Minden High School; attended Grambling State University, McNeese in Lake Charles and the University of Louisiana in Monroe, pursuing a major in pre-law.
He organized several "MIME" spiritual groups; served faithfully as music/youth director at Northwest 14th District Baptist Association; and a member of BSU Choir at Grambling and ZIEL in Shreveport.
Places of employment included Washington Marion Magnet High School in Lake Charles; Linear Middle School in Shreveport; J.A. Phillips Middle School and Hope Youth Ranch, Inc., in Minden; Carroll High and Minnie Ruffins Schools in Monroe.
He served as an organist for a number of churches in Louisiana ; joined New Hope Baptist Church in Port Arthur; and was serving God through his music ministry. His Fraternal and Masonic affiliations were Phi Beta Sigma and Lee Masonic Lodge #129.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eddie Beasley and Joseph and Rosa Purifoy Washington .
He is survived by his mother, Gloria W. Brown and husband Walter of Minden; father, Yettra L. Beasley and wife Yolanda of Lake Charles; grandmother, Lizzie Mae "Penny" Beasley of Minden; three brothers, Terrence D. Beasley of Dallas, Texas , Jullian Beasley, Damien Sias of Lake Charles; three sisters, Adrienne D. and Alanna R. Beasley of Lake Charles, Meredith Hollingsworth and husband Patrick of Monroe; special uncle, James C. Cotton of Minden; godmother, Sherry Hunt of Monroe; godfather, Edmond Bradford of Minden; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Vernon Staley
Funeral services for Mr. Vernon Joseph Staley, 56, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with Thurman Malone officiating and Brent Merrill assisting. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Union Church Cemetery with Robert Goletz presiding.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, June 29, at the funeral home.
Mr. Staley, of Evergreen Community, north of Minden, Passed away Thursday, June 24, along with his brother, JOHN WILLIAM STALEY, 58, of Chicago, Ill., while whitewater rafting down the Gallatin River, in Big Sky, Mont. Vernon and his brother drowned after a fatal capsize in rough rapids. The family had gathered in Big Sky for the wedding of John Staley, Jr.
He was born Jan. 7, 1948, in Washington , D.C. to Vernon Joseph Staley and Ethel Jean Bodnar Staley. He married Tammy Brewer on July 26, 1980. He was currently serving as the President of the Minden Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He had a gift of loving others unconditionally. He was an excellent father and husband. Vernon so much enjoyed being with his family, golfing and watching the Atlanta Braves and Tennessee Volunteers.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepbrother, Vaughn Tonsman.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy of Evergreen; sons, Justin Staley, currently serving in the Navy, stationed in England, and Vernon Joseph Staley III of Evergreen, soon to be of Bentonville, Ark.; and sister Kathleen Jean Evans of Bossier City.
Pallbearers will be Fred Evans, Christopher Von Evans, Kenny Brewer, Bill Rogers, Justin Staley, Vernon Staley, Chad Brewer and Neil Durr. Honorary pallbearer will be Vaughn Tonsman.
Memorials may be made to the Vernon Joseph Staley Memorial Fund through July at Regions Bank, 401 Main St., Minden, LA.

Travis Gray Sr.
Funeral services for Mr. Travis Dallas Gray Sr., 60, were held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home with the Rev. Malcolm Self officiating and Buster Page assisting. Burial followed at Minden Cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Gray, a native and resident of Minden, Passed away Thursday, June 24, in Shreveport. He was a millwright.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Gray of Minden; one son, Travis Gray Jr. of Minden; daughters, Annette Gray Moseley and husband David of Ringgold, Samantha Meek and husband Jeff of Heflin, Tabitha Whitehead and husband Terry of Dubberly, and Jonelle Bartlett of El Dorado, Ark.; sisters, Mary Salsburg of Minden, Beatrice Fatheree of Doyline, Judy Gray of Wylie, Texas , Bonnie Burgess, Connie Valdez, both of Doyline, and Linda Gray of Minden; brothers, Ray Gray of Homer, Earl Gray and Rickie Gray, both of Minden; grandchildren, Jamee Sheppard, Tyler Whitehead, Nathan Moseley, Kimberlee Sheppard, Trent Meek and Natalie Moseley; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Scotty McCoy, Michael McCoy, Matthew Gray, Boyd Gray, Randy Fatheree and Todd Gray. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Garrett, Marty Garrett, Jeff Meek, Terry Whitehead, Bobby Fatheree, David Moseley, Shane Roten, Jamie Gray, Jason Salsburg, Chuck Hilburn and Michael Fatheree.

Roxie Cannon
Funeral services for Mrs. Roxie Park Mount Cannon, 83, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. J. Roddy Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, June 25, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Cannon, a native of Wirt County, W. Va., and a resident of Minden, Passed away Wednesday, June 23. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam O. Cannon; and her parents, Claud and Zanna Park.
She is survived by her children, Janet LaBruyere and husband Ed of Minden, Claude R. Mount and wife Debbie of Baton Rouge, Marian Elizabeth Bjorklund of Slidell, Frank Cannon of California, Pat Davis of Oregon, Arlene Bartlett and husband Steve, Brent Cannon and Trudy McCune, all of California; sisters, Glenna Low and husband Charles of W. Va., Dorothy Mick and husband Waldo of Ohio; brothers, Laurence Park and wife Pat, Carl Park, Russell Park and wife Garnett, Fred Park and wife Twilla, Dale Park and wife Betty, all of W. Va., David Park and wife Rose of California; 26 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Edna GreerEdna Greer
Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Celia Prothro Greer will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Homer First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terral T. Lowe officiating and assisted by the Rev. David Dietzel. Burial will follow at Homer Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer.
Family and friends may call from 7 until 9 p.m. today, June 25, at the funeral home, located at 405 E. 5th Street in Homer.
Mrs. Greer Passed away at 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 20, in Roanoke, Va. She was born on Sept. 7, 1908 at home near Ringgold.
Edna graduated from Gibsland High School in 1927 and received her bachelor of arts degree in education from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in 1933. She was a charter member of the Baptist Student Union and served as president of the Y.W.C.A. in 1933. Miss Prothro was hired by Webster Parish as a teacher and librarian in Cotton Valley in 1934 and received her bachelor of science in library science from Louisiana State University in August 1938. Edna married the love of her life Melvin Greer on December 23, 1938. From 1962 to 1978 Edna Greer was director of the Claiborne Parish Library. She was honored as a 50 Year Alumnus from Louisiana Tech University in 1983. Mrs. Edna enjoyed singing in church choirs for over 60 years, taught Sunday School for over 30 years, was a First United Methodist Church Gleaners Sunday School Class member for more than 30 years, and worked as church literary chairman for 10 years in Homer. She was a dedicated volunteer in the church office after retirement. Edna Greer loved God, loved her family, and loved her many friends.
She was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Melvin Winn Greer; her mother, Rhoda Mae Hinton Prothro; her father, Edward Lawson Prothro; and her siblings: E.L. Prothro, Jr., Glennie Mae Kitchens, Cora Lee Dreher, Gettis Prothro, Sallie Powell, and Alice Jane Prothro.
She is survived by one sibling, Gracie Irene Watson of Tacoma, Wash.; daughter, Jane Elizabeth Spurlock and husband Thomas Jefferson Spurlock III, of Roanoke; and three grandchildren: Jonathan Thomas Spurlock of Roanoke, Daniel Thomas Spurlock of Charlotte, N.C., and Wendy Linn Spurlock of Roanoke.
Pallbearers are friends from the Homer First United Methodist Church. Honorary pallbearers are the Gleaners Sunday School Class.
Memorial donations may be made to the Music Fund, the George Ford Memorial Music Fund, and/or the Organ Fund of the Homer First United Methodist Church.

Christine Hassell
Funeral services for Mrs. Christine Ann Hassell, 33, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 25, 2004, at First United Pentecostal Church in Minden with the Rev. Jeff Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow at Minden Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Hassell, a native of Shreveport and a resident of Lonoke, Ark., Passed away Monday, June 21. She graduated from Minden High School and North Louisiana Vocational-Technical School in Minden. She was employed as a document research analyst for Central Registry in Little Rock, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her father, Terry Larkin; brother, Vincent Larkin and grandmother, Zephie Mae Larkin.
She is survived by her mother, Arwilda Larkin of Gulfport, Miss.; daughter, Madison Larkin of Minden; one brother, Timothy Larkin of Dixie Inn; two sisters, Suzanne Shockley of Dixie Inn and Cindy Shelton of Lexington, Ky.
Pallbearers will be Casey Callender, Chad Callender, Justin Callender, Chuckie Rickman, Keith Rickman and Corey Plunkett.

Bettie Masingill
Funeral services for Mrs. Bettie McBrayer Masingill, 74, will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 25, 2004, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer with the Rev. Rusty Gilbert officiating and Dr. Richard May assisting. Burial will follow at Rocky Springs Cemetery in Lisbon.
Mrs. Masingill, a resident of Homer, Passed away Wednesday, June 23, in Shreveport.
She was a homemaker and a member of Rocky Springs Baptist Church. She was also a devoted children's Sunday school teacher.
She is survived by her husband, Bentley L. Masingill of Homer; two sons, Michael W. Masingill and wife Sandra of Cabot, Ark., Carl M. Masingill of Homer; two daughters, Sandra R. Kelly and husband Larry of Rockledge, Fla., and Patricia Kay White and husband Sam of Woodworth; one brother, Samuel Latsha and wife Lajuanna of Seatac, Wash.; five grandchildren, Lee Meredith Whitmire and husband Jeff of Leander, Texas , Carrie Lynn Woods and husband Shawn of Hanceville, Ala., Richard Brian Kelly of Melbourne, Fla., Jennifer Michelle Kelly of Melbourne, and Alan Casey Masingill of Cabot; three great-grandchildren, Jared Lesley, Justin Duane Whitmore and Ava Morgan Woods .
Pallbearers will be Tunis Gaston, Lavon Anglin, C.V. Palmer, Damon Chandler, Floyd Burns and James Pixley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Oscar Turner, Charles Chandler, Harold Lolly and Cliff Wynn.

Queen Ester "Dimp" Gasaway
Funeral services for Mrs. Queen Ester "Dimp" Gasaway, 87, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Union CME Church with Elder Floyd M. English officiating. Burial will follow at the Union CME Cemetery under the direction of Kennon's Mortuary, Inc. in Minden.
Visitation will be held today, June 25, with family hour from 6 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Queen Ester Turk Gasaway was born July 31, 1916 in Webster Parish to Simon and Mary Johnson Turk. She Passed away Sunday, June 20, 2004 in Bossier City.
Mrs. Gasaway married Joseph Gasaway, who preceded her in death. Three sons, Edward Teal, Hildred Gasaway and Calvin Gasaway, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, Thomas Gasaway, Sr. and wife, Angela, of Sibley; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Barbara Jean Holiday
Funeral Services for Mrs. Barbara J. Holiday, 61, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Palestine Baptist Church with the Rev. Rodney Smith and the Rev. Preston Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Palestine Cemetery under the direction of Kennon's Mortuary, Inc. in Minden.
Visitation will be held today, June 25, with family hour from 7:30 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Barbara Holiday was born May 25, 1943 to Robert and Ella Alexander Booker. She departed this life on June 21, 2004.
Sheis survived by four sons, Albert Holiday, Jr. and wife, Jerrilyn, Glen Edward Holiday, William Roger Holiday, and Antonio Holiday, all of Minden; two daughters, Menita Ann Holiday and Tosha Michelle Holiday, both of Minden; two sisters, Essie Lee Odom and Blonzell Lewis and husband, Charlie, both of Minden; one brother, Dulan Hartwell of Arcadia; husband, Albert Holiday, Sr. of Minden; a devoted friend, Lamar Jackson , of Minden; two stepsons, Jerry Wayne Jackson of Dallas, Texas , and Twantell Brown of Helfin; three sisters-in-law, Annie Glory Nelson of Minden, Margaret Coleman and Laura Mae Smith, both of Houston, Texas ; 10 grandchildren; special cousins, Mary Alexander and Linda Alexander; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
