Mary Rhea
Funeral services will be held for Mrs. Mary Nell Slater Rhea, 91, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Bill Ichter officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bill Crider. interment will follow at the Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home starting at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Mrs. Rhea was born Oct. 13, 1913, in Sibley. She entered into rest Saturday, April 30, in Minden. Mrs. Rhea received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Northwestern State University and taught in Webster Parish for 22 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Minden.
Mrs. Rhea was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver T. and Mattie Kennon Slater; her husband, who she married in 1937, George Elton Rhea, Sr.; two brothers, Bishop Eugene Slater and Col. Edwin Slater.
She is survived by two sons, George Elton Rhea, Jr. and wife, Gail of Shreveport and Milton Slater Rhea and wife, Sue of Alexandria; one daughter, Betty Rhea Deloach and husband, Don of New Orleans; one sister, Edith S. Peterson of Brenham, Texas ; seven grandchildren, Steven and David Deloach, Jonathan and Slater Rhea, Renee Deupree and husband, Scott, Aimee Franklin and husband, Mike and Ashlee Simon and husband, Brad; six great-grandchildren, Ellis and Anne Deupree, Wesley, Abigail, George and Caroline Franklin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara B. Riffle
Memorial services for Mrs. Barbara B. Riffle, 54, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Bill Ichter officiating.
Mrs. Riffle was born in Bossier City and Passed away Saturday, April 30, at her residence following a sudden illness. She was a registered nurse with Minden Medical Center for the past 15 years.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Bennett of Bossier City.
She is survived by her husband Larry of Minden; one son, Christopher, age 20; and one brother, Ralph Bennett of Bossier City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Rictravius Carter
Funeral services for Mr. Rictravius Deron Carter will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at St. Rest Baptist Church in Minden. Burial will follow at Allen Cemetery in Minden under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Family hour will be held from 7 until 8 p.m. today, April 29, at the funeral home.
Mr. Carter was born Sept. 6, 1981 to Sandra Mims Carter and Ricky Carter. He Passed away Saturday, April 23.
Ric was a fun-loving young man and full of life. He loved listening to music and being with his family at Big Mama’s house. He joined Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church at an early age and was a member of the Minden High School Class of 2004. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Charles Terrell; his paternal grandparents, R. Neal and Ruby Carter; his step-grandfather, John D. Williams; and his uncle, Herman Carter.
He is survived by mother and step-father, Sandra and Greg Cato; father, Ricky Carter; sister, Charnice Carter; brother, Ricky Carter; grandmother, Martha Williams; step-grandmother, Helen Terrell; aunts, Teresa Rogers and husband Rodney, Sharon Joseph, LeGreta Smith, Regina Smith and Shannon Terrell; uncles, Joey Jackson , Tracy Mims, R. Neal Carter Jr. and wife Emma, and Charleston Terrell; great-aunts, Arlee Cosby and Mildred Collins; special cousins, Jomesha and Jasmine Jackson , Q’Shun Mims, Rodtravion, Rodarion and Rodraius Rogers; godmother, Brenda Key; god-sisters, Qualisa Moore, Candice Washington and Tabatha Gilbert; and many other relatives and friends.

Johnnie Green
Graveside services for Mr. Johnnie Green will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Sheppard Street Cemetery in Minden with the Rev. Clarence Joyner officiating. Services are under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Green Passed away Tuesday, April 26, at Leslie Lakes Retirement Home in Arcadia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Carrie Green; sister, Lucy Pearl Green; and a brother, Willie Mack Green.
He is survived by his niece, Marilyn Martin Cooksey; nephew, Rickey Dale Martin, both of Minden; three great-nieces, Chequella Cooksey Walker and husband Michael, Jo’Lyncia Cooksey-Walker and husband Cory, and LaNeisha Cooksey, all of Minden; three great-great-nieces, Jasmine Cooksey, NiKayla Cooksey and NaKaiya Cooksey, all of Minden; two great-great-nephews, Dominique Walker and Cory Walker Sr., both of Minden; a special friend, Elijah Loud of Minden; and a host of relatives, family and friends.

Annie Bell Merritt
Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Bell Batton Merritt, 76, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2005, at Hayes Tabernacle CME Church in Los Angeles, Calif.
She is the daughter of the late Edmond Bradford, and the late Allie Mae Terrell and step-daughter of the late Johnnie Terrell. She was born Sept. 7, 1938.
She is survived by her devoted husband, John E. Merritt of Los Angeles, three stepchildren, Gloria, Mary and Louis of California; one brother, Edmond Bradford of Minden; two sisters, Norma Jean Bradford of Minden, and the late Mrs. Leona Fuller of Minden; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Margaret Hayes
Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret M. Hayes, 76, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Danny Warbington officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, April 29, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hayes, a longtime resident of Minden, Passed away Wednesday, April 27, in Monroe. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Hayes; mother, Emma Triplett Hayes; and father, Hubert C. Triplett.
She is survived by three daughters, Wanda M. Wilcott of Livingston, Texas , Joy L. Ogden of Minden, Brenda L. Barnett of Carthage, Texas ; two sisters, Della Fort of Red Oak, Iowa, Joyce Burdett; brother, John G. Triplett of Sacramento, Calif.; grandchildren, Michael Forbes, Sonya Moore, Deborah Forbes, William Steinhardt, Chris Steinhardt, Dawn Gonzalas, Tiffanie Murphy, Tony Ogden, John Foshee and Charles Foshee; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pearlie Box
Funeral services for Ms. Pearlie Box, 100, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Good Hope AME Church in Chidester, Ark., with the Rev. Gregory Nettles officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Stamps, Ark.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., Thursday, at the church.
Ms. Box, a native of Minden and a resident of Chidester, Passed away Friday, April 22, at her home. She was born March 12, 1905 to parents John and Etsy Holliman-Jenkins. She was a stewardess, class leader, church school teacher in the youth division and WMS president. She was also named Emeritus Matilda of the Douglas Women’s’ Missionary Society of Good Hope AME Church, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Ferdinand Chapter #138.
She was preceded in death by children, Willie, Carl, Lenon Box and Ruby Macklin; brothers, George, Booker and Thurman Jenkins; and sisters, Jimmie Toney, Rosie Johnson , Beatrice Scott and Ardencia Robertson.
She is survived by her daughters, Bennie Fricks of Chidester, Ossie Rigsby, Ynoble Zackery, Etsy Fricks, Clara Hall, Evelyn Box; her sons, John, Claude, Chester and Roosevelt Box, all of Rockford, Ill.; sisters, Ola Pennington of Emmet, Ark., Bertha Smith and Elizabeth Noble, both of Minden; 61 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Leona Fuller
Funeral services for Mrs. Leona Moreland Fuller, 75, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Landfair officiating. interment will follow at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery under the direction of Kennon’s Mortuary in Minden.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 29, in the chapel of Kennon’s Mortuary with family hour from 6 until 7 p.m.
Leona Moreland Fuller was born March 14, 1930 in Sibley, to the late Beatrice McGee and the late Jimmy Moreland, Sr.
She united in holy matrimony to the late Wren Fuller, Jr.
Leona Fuller was blessed with a large family including 34 sisters and brothers.
She departed this earthly life on April 24, 2005 in Minden.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Shirley Fuller Holmes and Emma Fuller, both of Sibley; two sons, Bobby Ray Moreland of Sibley and Staff Sergeant Michael T. Moreland (Tracey) of Schweinfurt, Germany; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; special sisters and brothers, Jimmy Moreland, Jr. (Margaret) of Sibley, Louis Moreland (Eula) of Houston, Texas , James Moreland (Emma) of Shreveport, Linnie Willis of Sibley, Louise Preston of Houston, Carrie Springer of Chicago, Ill., Edmond Bradford of Minden, Norma Jean Bradford of Minden, and Annie Bell Merritt of Los Angeles, Calif.; adopted children, Carolyn Jackson , Barbara Johnson , Debra Jackson , and Deloris Kinsey; special friends, Dianne Murphy, Susie Johnson , Kevin Gipson, Vinnie Guinn, Christene Youngblood, Wilbert Wright, and Fayrine Kennon-Gilbert; and a host of other relatives and friends.

James L. Jacob
Funeral services for Mr. James L. Jacob, 57, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at St. James Baptist Church. interment will follow at St. James Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Kennon’s Mortuary.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 29, in the chapel of Kennon’s Mortuary.
James Jacob was born Nov. 8, 1947, in Minden, to the late Jessie James Jacob and Ida Mae Franklin Jacob.
He departed this earthly life on April 26, 2005 in Shreveport.
James Jacob was a veteran of the United States Army.
He was employed at Minden Medical Center where he was a dedicated employee, not missing more than one day of work in the last 13 years.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Ida Mae Jacob of Minden; three brothers, John L. Jacob (Judy) of Dallas, Texas , Chinell Jacob and Leotis Jacob (Jerry) both of Minden; two sisters, Linda Taylor (Albert) and Yolanda Eason (Dorcee) both of Minden; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Roland Kinsey
Funeral services for Mr. Roland Kinsey, 72, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2005, at Union Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Alvin Shelton officiating. interment will follow at Pringer Place Cemetery under the direction of Kennon’s Mortuary.
Visitation will be held today, April 28, in the chapel of Kennon’s Mortuary.
Roland Kinsey was born May 12, 1932 in Shreveport, to the late Roosevelt Kinsey, Sr. and the late Mattie Odom Kinsey.
Roland Kinsey was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in the Korean War.
He departed this earthly life on April 21, 2005 in Shreveport.
He leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Tanja Scott of Kansas City, Kan.; one brother Roosevelt Kinsey, Jr. of Minden; three sisters, Lois K. Brodus (Ambrose, Jr.) of San Diego, Calif., Louise K. Luke of Alberque, N. M., and Barbara K. Nemacheck (Brook) of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Frank “Daniel” Williams
Funeral services for Mr. Frank “Daniel” Williams, 68, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Springhill CME Church. interment will follow at Springhill CME Cemetery under the direction of Kennon’s Mortuary in Minden.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 29, in the chapel of Kennon’s Mortuary.
Daniel Williams was born May 10, 1936 to the late Chris Williams, Sr. and the late Mary Coleman Williams.
He departed this earthly life on April 24, 2005 in Minden.
He leaves to cherish his memory three sons; one sister; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Jack Blount Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Jack Randle Blount, Jr., 64, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Maj. USAF Ret. Jack R. Blunt Jr. Passed away Sunday, April 24, at home with his family. He had resided in Ocean Springs, Miss., for 24 years following his retirement as the rank of Major from the United States Air Force.
He was born Oct. 14, 1940, in Minden to Hazel and J.R. Blount Sr. of Doyline. In 1962, Jack graduated from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute with a bachelor of arts degree in English Literature. He began his Air Force career in May 1963.
His tours as a pilot included: instructor at Vance Air Force Base, Enid, Okla.; Division Air Liaison Officer with the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell, Ky., and with the 58th Tac Fighter Squadron at Eglin Air Force Base in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. He flew 279 total combat hours in the Vietnam Conflict, first a navigator in the 603rd Air Commando Squadron and then as a pilot in the 58th Tactical Fighter Squadron.
Jack received the Distinguished Flying Cross with one device and an air medal with six devices as well as many other distinguished commendations.
Memberships on the Mississippi Gulf Coast included: First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs and the Black Creek Hunting Lodge.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Jacqueline Dyer Blount; his four daughters, Rebecca Leigh Coleman, Allison Blount Stewart and husband Tom, Julie Ann Foster and husband Todd and Jennifer Lynn Blount; four beautiful grandchildren, Erika, Jake, Sam and Abby; aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Roberts; and his beloved dog, Auburn.
Jack lived an exceptionally full life, even through a long illness. His zest for life; flying fighters, riding quarter horses, hunting, fishing, cooking and voracious reading combined with a quick wit, will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. The family would like to express their gratitude to family and friends for their unending support and love.
Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs Building Fund, 602 Washington Avenue, Ocean Springs, MS 39564.

Mammie Maureen Bates
Funeral services for Mrs. Maureen Bates, 83, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Rockett Funeral Home in Ringgold with the Rev. Roy Southern officiating. Burial will follow at Bistineau Baptist Cemetery in Heflin.
Mrs. Bates was born Nov. 13, 1921 in Whitedeer, Texas , and Passed away Friday, April 22. She was a member of Fryeburg Baptist Church and was very active in the Order of the Eastern Star Ringgold Chapter #131, where she served two terms as Worthy Matron. Mrs. Bates also served as district deputy in District #9, and grand officer in 1996-97.
She is survived by her husband, Dera Bates of Heflin; one son, Mid Ray Clark and wife Susan of Burnet, Texas ; one daughter, Anita Fields-Gold and husband Maurice of Lake Charles; one sister, Leona Killingsworth of Perry, Fla.; four grandchildren, William Kyle Fields, Dera Clark, B.G. Clark, and Sammy Marusich; five great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Dera Clark, B.G. Clark, Kyle Fields, Sammy Marusich, John Anderson and Mike Eskew.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like for donations to be made to the Order of the Eastern Star Operational Endowment Fund, Attn: Grand Secretary, P.O. Box 740412, New Orleans, LA 70174-0412, or to Fryeburg Baptist Church in Heflin.
