Bernice Reese
Funeral services for Mrs. Bernice M. Reese, 98, will be held Monday, April 18, 2005, 11a.m. at Pleasant Grove B.C., 1963 Perrin Street, in Shreveport, with the Rev. Daniel Williams, III officiating. interment will follow in the Carver Cemetery in Shreveport under the direction of Kennon’s Mortuary in Minden.
Visitation and family hour will be held Sunday, April 17, in the chapel of Heavenly Gates Funeral Home from 5 until 7 p.m.
Bernice Mosley Reese was born Dec. 29, 1906 in Grand Cane, to Lina and Jerry Mosley. She was the sixth of nine children.
She accepted Christ at an early age. She joined and was baptized at the Friendship Baptist Church. She united in holy matrimony to the late Henry Reese, who she affectionately called “Honey.”
During her adult life, she joined the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until her health failed. In 1999, she moved to Inglewood, Calif., to reside with her niece and nephew. She united with the Park Windsor Baptist Church, where she attended church faithfully until her health prevented her.
She departed this earthly life on April 11, 2005 in Los Angeles, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings.
She leaves to cherish her memory: nieces and nephews, Aplis and James Patterson, Inglewood; Jo Ann Myles, Los Angeles; Eric Fuller, Gardena, Calif.; Beartis Fobbs, Inglewood; Ola Mae Lathan, Houston, Texas ; Early and Eva Mosley, Keithville; Fayrine and Verdis Gilbert, Minden; Arthur and Mary Mosley, Shreveport; a devoted friend, Sister Loretta Hall, Los Angeles; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Robert Person
Robert Cole Person Passed away Thursday, April 7, 2005, at his residence in Jamestown. He was born Dec. 28, 1925. He served in the United States Navy in World War II as a radio operator and worked with Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries for 16 years.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Sheri Woodall.
He is survived by his bride of 58 years, Casceil Person of Jamestown; his sons, Randy Person and wife Judy of Haughton, Ricky Person of Minden; daughters, Casandra Woodall and Dana James and her husband, Barry, all of Minden; his grandchildren, Craig, Amy, Casey and Mitchell Person, Shani Lee and Shelli Coyle and Kyler James; four great-grandchildren, Luke and Logan Coyle, and Shelly and Payton Lee; his brothers, H.R. Person, J.D. Person and Ronnie Person; sisters, Gloria McElhanon and Debbie Gros; and special cousin, Mary Beth McCain and her husband Jack of Natchitoches.
The family would like to extend their thanks to his special friends and caretakers, Kathy and Mike Rasbury, Neva Driggers, Carolyn Clark, Hospice and many other dear friends in the community.

Cleo Reeves
Funeral services for Mr. Cleo “Tooter” Reeves, 85, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Wayne Reeves and the Rev. Mike Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Bistineau Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, April 11, at the funeral home.
Mr. Reeves, a native of Sibley and a lifelong resident of Heflin, Passed away Sunday, April 10, at Minden Medical Center. He was retired from the Webster Parish Police Jury, and was a veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Lilla Mae Reeves; brother, C.A. Reeves; nephews, Lynn and Tommy Reeves; and a niece, Beth Reeves Dyck.
He is survived by his brother, Byron “Puntin” Reeves and wife Dru of El Dorado, Ark.; and nieces, Sharon Landaiche, Patty Sewell and Amanda Pierot.
Pallbearers will be Carroll Landaiche, Cord Landaiche, Joe Bob Beatty, Tommy Lee, Jean Sewell and Asa Sewell.

Georgia Gibbs Knight
Mrs. Georgia Gibbs Knight, 68, Passed away Friday morning, April 8, after a sudden illness. Services will be under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home with burial to follow at Fellowship Cemetery in Dubberly.
Mrs. Knight loved being with her friends and cooking her cakes, pies and dumplings that she would bake for others. She also loved making angels with the Angel Ministry at Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she was a dedicated member.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Martin and Vera Gibbs; and her sister, Betty Vittatoc.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis Cole Knight; daughters, Ann Heard and husband Buddy of Dubberly, Susan Reeves and husband Billy of Minden, Janet Thompson and husband Tommy of Sibley; grandchildren, David Heard and wife Crystal of Dubberly, Steven Heard of Dubberly, Trey Smith of Shreveport, Willie Reeves of Minden, Amanda Greer and husband Justin of Heflin, Crystal Wells and husband Wade of Dubberly; and great-grandchildren, Mason and Chloe; sisters, Barbara Causey and husband Charles of Farmerville, Mary Asteen and husband Dwain of Springhill, Margaret Moore and husband Jack of Lindale, Texas , Linda Daniels and husband Art of Missouri; brother-in-law, Raleigh "Vic" Vittatoe of Bossier City; sister-in-law, Louise Earnest and husband Richard, Brenda Chanler and husband Don; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and her nephew.
The family would like to thank the step-down nurses and staff for their compassionate care for their mother at Minden Medical Center.

Donald Ray Woods
Funeral services for Mr. Donald Ray Woods will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Mt. Comfort Baptist Church. Services are under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Family hour will be held from 7 until 8 p.m. today, April 8, at the funeral home.
Mr. Woods is survived by his father, Freddie (Bunny) Woods ; mother, Rosie Lee Woods ; three sisters, Freddye Wilson of Fayetteville, N.C., Brenda Combs of Los Angeles, Calif., Linda Pennywell of Bossier City; and one brother, Randy Woods of Minden.

Opal Cox
Funeral services for Mrs. Opal Rae Blackwell Cox, 81, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2005, at First United Pentecostal Church in Minden with the Rev. Jeff Ramsey officiating and the Rev. T.W. Barnes and the Rev. Bob Rhymes assisting. Burial will follow at Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sibley under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 3 until 9 p.m. today, April 7, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Cox, a native of Coushatta and a resident of Webster Parish for most of her life, Passed away Wednesday, April 6, at Meadowview Health and Rehab. She was a housewife. She was also a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Minden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Almond Cox; three brothers; two sisters; and two grandchildren, Nina Stachowicz and Anna Cox.
She is survived by her son, Raymond Cox and wife Kathy of Sibley; one daughter, Betty Gray and husband Wayne of Sibley; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Cecil Hefner, Pierce Hefner, Billy Ray Blackwell, Jimmy Chitty, Billy Chitty and Robert Stachowicz.

William Leon Reeves
Graveside services for Mr. William Leon Reeves, 81, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2005, at Ebenezer Cemetery in Castor with the Rev. James Nailes officiating. Services are under the direction of Rockett Funeral Home in Ringgold.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. today, April 7, at the funeral home.
Mr. Reeves, a native of Castor and a resident of Minden, Passed away Wednesday, April 6. He was born Sept. 10, 1923. He was a member of Foster Arbor Assembly of God Church in Castor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Burgess and Maggie Lacy Reeves; and a sister, Helen Williams.
He is survived by his brother, James M. Reeves of Shreveport; sisters, Tommye Cornelia Anderson of Minden, Rose Mary Reeves of Alexandria, Edythe Cowser of Shreveport; nieces, Janis Ivy of Martin, Carolyn Thomas of Saline; nephews, Dale Cowser of Martin, James Burgess Reeves of Richardson, Texas ; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Timothy Battles
Funeral services for Mr. Timothy Guyman Battles, 32, are pending. Services will be under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home.
Mr. Battles Passed away Friday, May 6, at 6 a.m. He was a resident of Minden.
He is survived by his loving mother, Kathy Edge; beloved brother, John, Nathan, Sarah, and Allie Edge; and his children, James and Dylan of Arley, Ala. He is also survived by a special friend of 12 years, Emily Dickenson.
In lieu of flowers, the family will be accepting contributions at Carter Federal Credit Union in care of Kathy Edge. Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers; everything is greatly appreciated.

Alberta Mims Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Alberta Mims Jr. will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Mt. Comfort Baptist Church in Minden. Burial will follow at Mt. Comfort Cemetery under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Family hour will be held from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday, May 13, at the funeral home.

Jay’Arthure Murphy
Graveside services for infant Jay’Arthure Murphy will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2005, at Pinehill Cemetery with the Rev. M. Byan officiating. Services are under the direction of Miller-Pioneer Funeral Home in Minden.
Jay’Arthure Passed away Monday, May 9, in Columbia, Ark.He is survived by his mother, Peggy Nunley and his father, James Murphy.

A.B. Colvin
Funeral services for Mr. A.B. Colvin, 77, were to be held at 10 a.m. today, May 19, 2005, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Lott officiating. Burial was to follow at Shiloh Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary in Springhill.
Mr. Colvin, a native and lifelong resident of this area, Passed away Tuesday, May 18, in Springhill. He was a member of Forest Grove Baptist Church, was a retired employee of International Paper Company with 28 years of service and also with Tyson’s Food. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nobie Anderson Colvin of Springhill; daughters, Shirley of Powder Springs, Ga., Carolyn of Shreveport, and Regina Ann of Taylor , Ark.; sons, Alvin Dwayne of Alexandria, Rickey Lynn of Springhill, and Rodney Gene of Charleston, S.C.; sisters, Dorothy Faye Timmons of Springhill, Beatrice Burns of Jackson , Miss.; brother, E.T. Colvin of Taylor ; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were to be Lonnie Colvin, Michael Colvin, Rob Bland, Chris Starkey, G.W. Peck and Walter Peck.

Lauta Mae Cooper
Funeral services for Mrs. Lauta Mae Cooper, 96, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2005, at George J. Carroll Funeral Home in Gainsville, Texas . She will also be buried in Gainsville.
Mrs. Cooper, formerly of Minden, Passed away Wednesday, May 18.
She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Tood and husband Dick of Minden; grandson, David Todd of Florida; granddaughter, Tracy Lowrey and husband Marty of Homer; and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Minden.

Gregory Scott Rachel
Funeral services for Gregory Scott “Greg” Rachel, 34, of Ivan will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church in Ivan with the Rev. Bill Lott, Dr. O.P. Bazer and the Rev. Scott Guillet officiating.
Mr. Rachal Passed away May 13 after an automobile accident. He was a lifelong resident of the Ivan community, a member of the Pilgrim Home Baptist Church and employed by Scott Truck and Tractor of Shreveport. He was a 1989 graduate of Benton High School and had fulfilled his life with rodeo, family, his cattle, horses and many rodeo friends.
He is survived by his parents, John and Kay Rachal; a sister, Stacy Nail; grandmother, Julia Hagan, all of Ivan; aunts, Janet Hilburn, Marilyn Cavett and husband Ken; uncles, Donnie Hagan and wife Cathy of Waco, Texas ; Paul Rachal, Mike Rachal and wife Roxie, all of Cotton Valley; nephews Jason and Dustin Nail of Ivan; his best little buddy, Austin Simmons; cousins Tonnie, Charlie, Chase, Cody, Monica, Greg, Matt, Devon and many other family members.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Willard “Papaw” Hagan.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Owens, Chris Humphries, Jeff Adkins, Curtis Horst, Alan Tinker, George Rankin, David Booth, Ed Jorden, Brad Norwood, Kenny Coleman,, James Ray Dick, Johnnie Jorden and Chris Taylor .

Ronnie Dean Brantley
Funeral services for Mr. Ronnie Dean Brantley, 41, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with Dr. Morris Robe, pastor of Baptist Tabernacle, officiating. interment will follow at Brushwood Cemetery in Dubberly.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 8 p.m. today, May 16.
Ronnie was born Oct. 7, 1963, in Lewisville, Ark., to Delma L. Brantley and Susie L. Harrison Brantley. He entered into rest Friday, May 13, at Homer Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.
Ronnie is survived by his wife, Suezy Brantley; his son, Wesley Adam Brantley of Sibley; his daughter, ShyAnn Baldwin of Minden; his parents, Delma and Susie Brantley of Sibley; his sister, Ronda Miller and her husband, Tony of Minden; his brothers, Steven Brantley and his wife, Deborah of Dixie Inn and Delma “D.L.” Brantley, Jr. and wife, Kristy of Sibley; beloved numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be D. L. Brantley, Jr., Steven Brantley, Wesley Brantley, Jerrimy Miller, Paul Davis, Keith Jellum, Papa Leon Jackson , Sr., and Cory Brantley.
Honorable pallbearers will be Tom Petty, Wincel Young, Trey Brantley and Ronald Gene Altmen.

Cora Jones
Funeral services for Mrs. Cora Scriber Jones, 93, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Bailey Mortuary in Springhill with the Rev. Danny Dodd officiating. Burial followed at Springhill Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones was born Jan. 18, 1912 in Ft. Necessity to Clifford Clyde and Florence Haddox Scriber. She Passed away Thursday, May 12, in Springhill. She was a resident of Sarepta, member of Ft. Necessity Baptist Church, a homemaker and a seamstress. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Reubin Jones; granddaughter, Shelia Jones; one brother; and two sisters.
She is survived by her daughters, Irma J. Armstrong of Sarepta; Lessie J. Weems of Sarepta; one son, Reubin Jones and wife Jerry of Ash Flat, Ark.; brother, Clifford Clyde Scriber of Ft. Necessity; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Scott Harris, Ricky Jones, Eddie Jones, Ronnie Watson, Tracy Delafield and Charles Foy. Honorary pallbearers were Wiley Holley, W.W. Council, Roland Colvin and Kenneth Delafield.
