Graveside services for Mrs. Catherine K. Townsend, 75, will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2005, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden with the Rev. Hank Hamilton officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Townsend Passed away Tuesday, July 5, in Baton Rouge. She was born Dec. 9, 1929, and was a homemaker. She was a charter member of Lakeview Methodist Church in Minden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard E. Townsend.
She is survived by her sons, Fred Townsend and wife Beth of Roswell, Ga., Steve Townsend of Birmingham, Ala., Joe Townsend of Baton Rouge; four grandchildren, Jared Townsend and Barbara Townsend of Baton Rouge, and Rhett and Reagan Townsend of Roswell; sisters, Billie Sue Goudeau and husband Morris, Jesse Dorsey and husband Jack; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be her sons, Fred, Steve and Joe Townsend; grandson, Jared Townsend, and friends, Tenney Branch and Butch Newman.
Memorials may be made to the Methodist Children’s Home in Ruston.

Alane Upshaw
Graveside services for Ms. Alane Victoria Upshaw, 46, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2005, at Fuller Cemetery in Minden with the Rev. David McKinney officiating. Services are under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. today, July 7, at the funeral home.
Ms. Upshaw, a native and resident of Minden, Passed away Tuesday, July 5, in Minden. She was a hairdresser.
She was preceded in death by her father, Maynard Troy Upshaw; step-father, Joe Shaw; and grandparents, Walter B. Walker, and Maynard C. and Louella Upshaw.
She is survived by her mother, Wanda Shaw; sisters, Margaret Shaw of Minden, and Rebecca Prince of Sanford, N.C.; brother, Timothy Shaw of Creedmore, N.C.; two nieces, Crystal Wells and Jo Hannah Shaw; four nephews, Phillip Bates, Christian Bates, Gregory Shaw and Clay Shaw; one great-niece, Chloe Marie Wells; two uncles, Wallace R. Walker Sr. and Willie Leon Walker; and three aunts, Frances Hammett, Eloise Norris and Ruth Kent.

Elvis Martin
Funeral services for Mr. Elvis Odell Martin, 70, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2005, at Rockett Funeral Home in Ringgold with the Rev. Morris Robe and the Rev. David McCormick officiating. Burial will follow at Bistineau Cemetery in Heflin.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 9 p.m. today, July 6, at the funeral home.
Mr. Martin, a resident of Doyline, Passed away Monday, July 4. He was born Jan. 29, 1935, in Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jewel and Era Martin; and one brother, Alon Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Melba Martin of Doyline; two daughters, Connie J. Raines and husband Gary of Houston, Texas , Donna Lea Jones of Houston; five step-sons, Douglas Thompson and wife Cynthia of Heflin, Dennis Thompson and wife Tammy of Haughton, Rodney Thompson of Bossier City, Gary Thompson and wife Teri of Denham Springs, and Donald Thompson and wife Kimberly of Haughton; one step-daughter, Donna Lee and husband Todd of Bossier City; one brother, Daniel V. Martin and wife Teeny of Minden; one sister, Maurice Smith and husband Bill of Alaska; four grandchildren; 19 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; three step-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Lifecare Hospital in Shreveport, and LifePath Hospice Care Services.

Lester P. Box
Lester Box, 89, Passed away July 4, 2005 after a brief illness. Mr. Box was born in Campti, on May 11, 1916. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he lived and worked in Shreveport, for more than 50 years and moved to Sibley in 1998.
Mr. Box was preceded in death by his father, mother, two brothers and one sister.
He is survived by a brother, Ben Wade and wife, Bonnie of Mobile, Ala.; Marie Steeley of Minden, mother of his five children, son, Donald Box and wife, Dina of Minden, daughters, Dolores Box and Cindy Beard of Sibley, Darlene Box and Eddie LaBorde of Minden, Doris Whittington and husband, Glen of Houston, Texas , Danita Briceno and husband, Michael of Statesville, N.C.; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. today, July 5, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Centuries Memorial Cemetery, Mansfield Road in Shreveport.

Lealer Macklin
Funeral services for Mrs. Lealer Richardson Matthews will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2005, at St. Matthews Baptist Church in Athens. Burial will follow at Walker Cemetery in Gibsland under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.

Lucile Matthews
Funeral services for Mrs. Lucile Lewis Matthews will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2005, at St. Rest Baptist Church in Minden. Burial will follow at Union Grove CME Cemetery in Homer under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Matthews was born to the late William Lewis and Josephine White Lewis on Oct. 4, 1922. At an early age, she joined Union Grove CME Church in Homer, and remained a faithful member until her death. In January 1942, she married Willie James Matthews. Their 47-year marriage produced four children.
She was preceded in death by her husband and brother, Rogers Lewis.
Mrs. Matthews Passed away Monday, June 27, after a lengthy illness.
She is survived by her four children, Bennie J. Matthews of Minden, Willie D. Matthews Sr. of St. Paul, Minn., Emma L. Matthews of Shreveport, and Gloria M. Alstork and husband John of Minden; seven grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Gerald Dixon
Funeral services for Mr. Gerald Dixon, 38, formerly of Minden, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2005, at New Leaf Missionary Baptist Church, 5044 Veterans Dr., in Dallas, Texas . interment to follow at Laurel Land Memorial Park.
Gerald Dixon was born Aug. 11, 1966, to the late Sammy Dixon Sr. and Geraldine Gipson Dixon.
He departed this earthly life on Monday, June 27.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sammy Dixon, Sr. and nephew, Johnathan Dixon-Traylor.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Leticia Dixon of Dallas; son, Gerrell DeMarcus Dixon of Dallas; step-son, Joey Toscano and wife Marlene of Dallas; his mother, Geraldine Dixon of Minden; sisters, Carolyn Fuller-Lark of Dallas, Katherine Shelton and Vicky Hawkins, both of Minden; brothers, Sammy Dixon, Jr. and Johnny Dixon, both of Minden; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, July 1, at Singing Hills Memorial Chapel, 6221 S. Houston School Rd., in Dallas.

Dorothy Williams
Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Ann Norton Williams, 75, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2005, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Ronnie Whitlock officiating. Burial will follow at Fellowship Cemetery in Dubberly.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, June 30, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Williams, a native and resident of Minden, Passed away Tuesday, June 28, in Shreveport. She was a retired cafeteria cashier for the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant. She was a member of Beech Springs Baptist Church and a member of Minden Senior Citizens Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin C. Williams; and her brother, Lewell Norton.
She is survived by her sons, Leslie T. Williams and wife Sue of Minden, Bobby Williams of Kansas City, Mo., Richard Williams of Independence, Mo., Claude Williams and wife Bettie of Kilgore, Texas ; daughters, Jerri Hill and husband Steve of Watauga, Texas , Deborah Lehigh and husband Don of Pinellas Park, Fla., Sally Wilson and husband Bob of Maryville, Tenn.; sister, Desdia Ruth of Oklahoma ; brother, Buddie Eugene Norton of Kansas City; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Barbara and Marty Chapman, Revis McBride, Dorothy Eskew and friends from the Senior Citizens Center.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Memorial contributions may be made to Beech Springs Baptist Church children’s fund or Webster Council on Aging.

Donald Ray Brock
Funeral services for Mr. Donald Ray “Donnie” Brock, 22, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2005, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Ronnie Whitlock officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at the funeral home.
Mr. Brock, of Springfield, Mo., Passed away Sunday, June 26, of heart failure. He was born Dec. 8, 1982. He graduated from Minden High School, then did his duty by joining the U.S. Navy. Donnie had an outgoing personality; he had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. He enjoyed skating, swimming and playing video games. Donnie also enjoyed playing with and helping children.
He is survived by his parents, Tim and Tracie Cupp of Springfield, and Don and Shannon Brock of Shreveport; sister, Brandi Lynne Brock of Minden; grandparents, Jackie and Dorothy Boyce of Minden, Mike and Cindy Brock of DeQueen, Ark.; great-grandparents, Mary Jane Boyce and Wallace and Dolly Perryman, all of Minden, and Virginia Jones of Emerson, Ark.; three aunts, Caronda and Mike Williams of West Monroe, Barbara and Jimmy Woods of Athens, Elizabeth Miller of Fairbanks, Ark.; two uncles, Jay Boyce of Minden, Ken and Angie Brock of Demopolis, Ala.; and several cousins and many other relatives and friends.

Henry Kirkley Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Henry Franklin Kirkley Jr., 80, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Pine Grove United Methodist Church in Minden with the Rev. Bill Gueringer, of Welcome Home Baptist Church in Hebert, officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday, at the church.
Mr. Kirkley, a native of Minden and a resident of Houston, Texas , Passed away Sunday, June 26, in Houston. He was a former resident of Start and a retired truck driver. He served in Navy during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry F. and Irma Kirkley; his brother, Ralph Kirkley; and his sister, Margie Kirkley.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Sullivan Kirkley; daughters, Ginger Childers Lindeburg and Nila Davis; son, James H. Kirkley; grandsons, Kirk Childers, Daniel Davis, Michael Davis, Bradley Davis, James Kirkley and Brian Kirkley; great-granddaughter, Nila Paige Kirkley; great-grandsons, Tyler and Cole Childers; sisters, Bobbie Joyce Harlan and Billie Ruth Notzon; nieces, Elizabeth Slay, Patty Eden, Sheryl Taylor , Amy McCarthy, Melanie Jones and Carla Thomas; and nephews, Paul Harlan, Mike Harlan and Thomas Notzon.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

A.C. Stanford
Funeral services for Mr. A.C. “Junior” Stanford, 81, were to be held at 10 a.m. today, June 29, 2005, at Bailey Mortuary in Springhill with the Rev. Jerry Carter and the Rev. Justin Coburn officiating. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery.
Mr. Stanford was born April 5, 1924, in Little Rock, Ark., and Passed away Monday, June 27, following a short illness. He was a lifelong resident of this area, deacon and faithful member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church. He retired in building construction and was a U.S. World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Stanford had a love for youth baseball and other sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Frances Stanford Barfoot; two sisters; and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nell Savell Stanford; daughters, Wanda Fentress and husband Buster of Shreveport, Lee Haynes and husband Mike of Emerson, Ark., Connie Drake and husband Johnny of West Monroe; nine grandchildren, Keith Barfoot, Jeremy Barfoot and wife Jennifer, Aimee Porter and husband Michael, Christie Franklin and husband Chris, Matt Fentress and wife Holly, Andrew Haynes, Gray Haynes and wife Mandi, Wesley Drake and Hanna Drake; 12 great-grandchildren, Blake, Zee, Vanessa, Alyssa, Emily, Peyton, Parker, Preston, Jacob, Hanna, Halley, and Mason; four brothers, Bernard Stanford of Springhill, Boyce Stanford of Springhill, David Stanford of Homer, Billy Stanford of Natchitoches; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were to be Alan Stanford, Danny Stanford, Sammy Stanford, Brad Stanford, Richard Stanford, Terry Stanford, Chris Stanford and Jerry Stanford. Honorary pallbearers were to be Mickey Covington, Earnest Edwards, Ken Lyons, Billy Rasberry, Shelton Mizell and Claymon Dunn.

Bobby Joe Tate
Ringgold resident Bobby Joe “Bob” Tate, 69, Passed away Sunday, June 19, at Willis-Knighton Bossier following a sudden illness.
He was born March 30, 1936, in Seminole to Travis and Bessie Tate.
Tate worked in the oil-related industry for most of his life and has been a resident of Ringgold since 1977.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was of the Baptist faith.
Tate loved playing golf and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Vic Tate; sister, Mary Lou Tate; and brothers, Marvin and Ronnie Tate.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of Ringgold; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sherri Willis of Indiana, Dina and John Smith of Bossier City, Cindy and Marty Wood of Heflin; sister, Evelyn McInturff; six grandchildren, Megan and Garrett Willis, Lance and Preston Wood, Hailey Smith and Melissa Williams; and numerous other relatives, nieces, nephews and friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at Rockett Funeral Home in Ringgold with the Rev. Malcolm Self and Dr. A.W. Smart officiating. Burial followed at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden.
Pallbearers were his three grandsons, Lance and Preston Wood, Garrett Willis, Robert “Red” Danzy, Josh Danzy and Carl Nettles.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors and staff at Willis-Knighton Bossier and all of his co-workers at Chesapeake Natural Gas Company, along with other related companies, for the love and support shown during Bob’s illness.

Martin Adkins
Funeral services for Mr. Martin Douglas Adkins, 95, were to be held at 10 a.m. today, June 27, 2005, at Mt. Paran Baptist Church with his former pastor, the Rev. Ronnie Whitlock, officiating, and the Rev. Charles Garner assisting. Graveside services will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary in Springhill.
Mr. Adkins, a native of Shongaloo, Passed away Friday, June 24. He was born July 21, 1908. All of his friends and acquaintances considered it an honor to have known him. He worked for 33 years with Penrod Drilling Company.
He was a true servant of the Lord, who was unashamedly devoted to and idolized by everyone in his family. He was a member, deacon, Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and chairman emeritus of the deacon board at Mt. Paran Baptist Church in Shongaloo.
He was a member of Shongaloo Masonic Lodge #352, the Shreveport Valley of the Scottish Rite and El Karuba Shrine. His legacy of love, servanthood and enjoyment of the Christian faith and his family has set an extremely high standard for those who love and cherish his memory.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Eulyne Morgan Adkins; three sons and their wives, Doug and Carole, Bob and Suzette, and Ron and Alice of Dallas, Texas ; seven grandchildren, Mindy, Gregory, David, Christopher, Alexander, Micah and Andrew; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. James L. Adkins of Augusta, Ga., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were David Adkins, Greg Adkins, Chris Adkins, Alex Adkins, Andrew Adkins, Blaine Adkins and David Piehler. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Clements, Jim Adkins, Tom Adkins, George Adkins, Dr. William Swan, Luther Swan and Marion Wyatt Bevill.
