Mike Crouch
Funeral services for Mr. Mike Crouch, 84, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2005, at Bailey Mortuary in Cotton Valley with the Rev. Cecil Marr officiating. Burial followed at Union Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Crouch was born May 21, 1921 in Shongaloo to Ellis Leslie and Lee Odie King Crouch, and Passed away Friday, June 17, in Shreveport following a short illness. He was a resident of Cotton Valley, a member of Unity Baptist Church, and retired from International Paper Company. Mr. Crouch also served his country as a World War II Air Corp veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 61 years, Marzell Nealy Crouch.
He is survived by one son, Benny Crouch and wife Betty of Benton; two daughters, Shirley Mullins of DeSoto, Texas , Linda Kay Vaughn and husband John of Richardson, Texas ; sister, Jeanette “Sis” Houser and husband Leon of Houston, Ms.; brother, Jack Crouch and wife Mary of Poplarville, Ms.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Thelma Pugh of Bossier City; brother-in-law, Marshall Nealy and wife Maxine of Springhill; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Perry of Cotton Valley.
Pallbearers were Charles Holtzclaw, Charles Andrews, Dean Cox, Eugene Edwards, Robert Coleman and W.J. Johnston.

Melvin Garcie Sr.
Funeral services for Mr. Melvin Thomas Garcie Sr. will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 20, 2005, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Jeff Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow at Bistineau Cemetery.
Mr. Thomas, a native of Noble and a resident of Sibley, Passed away Thursday, June 165, at his home in Sibley. He was a welding engineer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Louise Garcie; brothers, Clayton Garcie, J.L. Garcie and Gene Garcie; and his sister, Dorothy Hedgepath.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ruby Garcie; sons, Thomas Garcie and wife Tricia of Sibley, Michael Garcie and wife Stacy of Sibley; sisters, Elma Tucker of Lake Arthur, Marie Rivers of Noble; brother, Johnny Ray Garcie of Noble; grandchildren, Christopher Garcie, Ronald Pearson, Brittany Pearson, Richard Pearson, Justin Moss, Kellie Moss, Jacob Marques, Hannah Garcie; and great-granddaughter, Kara Garcie.
Pallbearers will be Mark Gibson, Melvin Stewart, Glen Warren, J.H. Willis, Jeremy Robinson and Randall Carter.
The family would like to express its appreciation to Dr. Melanie Fredrick, who was not only his physician, but also a good friend. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Dhawan and his staff, Dr. Katz, Dr. Elmanjian and the staff at Hospice of Shreveport/Bossier for their kind and compassionate care.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Christine S. Hunt
Funeral services for Dr. Christine S. Hunt will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at First Baptist Church in Minden with the Rev. Wayne DuBose officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, June 20, at the funeral home.
Julia Christine Sapp Hunt was born Aug. 14, 1927, in Minden. She Passed away Saturday, June 18, in Shreveport.
Dr. Hunt was active in First Baptist Church in Minden, where she faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 40 years until three weeks before her passing. She showed her love for the Lord by serving in her church on many different committees and organizations. She was also active in various civic organizations and was selected as Minden’s Woman of the Year in 1976. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, serving as state president from 1983-85.
She graduated from Minden High School in 1944, earned a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana College in 1948, a masters from Louisiana Tech in 1966, and a doctorate of education from Northwestern State University in 1979. She taught school in Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana . From 1976 until her retirement in 1994, she was principal of E.S. Richardson Elementary School in Minden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Hunt; her parents, Youree and Eva Sapp; and her sister, Lowein.
She is survived by two daughters, Judy Allen and husband Jerry of New Orleans, and Carolyn Gilbert of Minden; seven grandchildren, Jeannie, Jennifer, Jessica, Jay, Christy, Amy and Casey; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Thomas, Courtney, Abby, Laken, Erin and Hunter; sister, Nellie Burge of Doyline; and sister-in-law, Betty Nolen and husband Bill of Lake Charles.
Pallbearers will be Jay Allen, Casey Gilbert, Tracy Pevy, Clayton Long, Tim Lee, Tony Sanders and Gabe Hogan.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and doctors in the critical care unit at Willis-Knighton Medical Center for their loving care.
The family requests that memorials be made to the WMU Foundation through First Baptist Church in Minden, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Ovis Smith
Funeral services for Mr. Ovis Oliver Smith, 89, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2005, at Kings Corner Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Jim Jackson and the Rev. David Harrell officiating. Burial followed at Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary in Springhill.
Mr. Smith was born April 3, 1916 to Monroe Oliver and Camille Staten Smith in Springhill, and Passed away Thursday, June 16, in Springhill following a lengthy illness. He was a lifelong resident of this area, a member of Kings Corner Assembly of God Church, and retired from International Paper Company after 35 years of service. He also served his country as a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie Mozelle Smith; and his brothers, Benny Reece Smith and Issac Franklin Smith.
He is survived by three daughters, Loretha Doristine Ledbetter of Sarepta, Glenda Ann Williams and husband Dewey of Bossier City, Donna Gayle Haehn and husband Louis of Sarepta; one son, Sherrel Reed Smith and wife Carolyn of Springhill; five sisters, Roberta Osborne of Queen City, Texas , Julia Faye Dean of Lumberton, Texas , Joyce Henson of Bivins, Texas , Ernestine Pickard of Sarepta, Betty Carruth of Lumberton; one brother, Reed “Shorty” Smith of Atlanta, Texas ; seven grandchildren, Shannon McClure, Scott Ledbetter, Dionne Trichell, Susan O’Neal, Shane Smith, Tracy Allen, Stephen Haehn; great-grandchildren, Trey, Connor, Kade, Peyton, Marah, Madison, Adam, Matthew, Katelyn; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Mike O’Neal, Allen McClure, Wade Allen, Wayne Nucholls, Joe Simms and David Welch.

Elmo Robinson
Funeral services for Mr. Elmo Robinson, 88, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2005, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Shawn Thrapp officiating. Burial will follow at Western Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary in Springhill.
Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. today, June 17, at the funeral home.
Mr. Robinson was born Sept. 3, 1916 to William Lafayette and Nancy Wilson Weldon Robinson in Emerson, Ark., and Passed away Wednesday, June 15, in Springhill following a short illness. He was a lifelong resident of this area, a member of Calvary Baptist Church and retired from International Paper Company.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Robinson; and his daughter, Linda R. Hughes.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Tim Hughes and wife Donna, Chad Hughes and wife Dana; great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Dakota; son-in-law, Ervin Hughes and wife Aleta; brother, Demp Robinson; a host of nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Pallbearers will be the deacons of Calvary Baptist Church.

Ovis Smith

Andnette Coleman
Funeral services for Mrs. Andnette Roberson Coleman, 90, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2005, at Galilee Baptist Church with the Rev. James Smith, officiating. interment will follow at Moore Cemetery under the direction of Kennon’s Mortuary in Minden.
Visitation will be held from Friday, June 17 in the chapel of Kennon’s Mortuary with family hour from 7 until 8 p.m.
Andnette Coleman was born July 10, 1914 in Heflin, to the late Cap and Laura Fay Roberson.
She departed this earthly life on June 13, in Houston, Texas .
She leaves to cherish her memory: two children, one biological, Joe Coleman, Jr. and wife, Virginia; and one adopted, Kenneth Coleman; grandchildren, Tyron Coleman and wife, Glenda, Joel Coleman and wife, Tina, Morris Davis, Cherry Davis, Gwendolyn Coleman, and Judy Jefferson ; great grandchildren, Jiovani, Snowy, Vincent, Spencer and Lance Coleman; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Annie Stroman
Funeral services for Ms. Annie Laura Stroman will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2005, at Advantage Funeral Home in Houston, Texas .
Visitation will be held Friday, June 17, at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ms. Stroman, a former resident of Minden, is survived by one daughter, Chaquita Stroman; two sisters, Johnnie Faye Moore, Louise Taylor ; one brother, Johnnye Ray James; and four grandchildren.

Stanley White Sr.
Funeral services for Mr. Stanley White Sr. will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2005, at St. Mark Baptist Church in Doyline. Burial will follow at Jenkins Community Cemetery in Doyline under the direction of Benevolent Funeral Home.
Family hour will be held from 7 until 8 p.m. at Kirk Chapel CME Church in Doyline.
Mr. White was born on June 11, 1957, to Dorothy and Holland White . He was born in Shreveport and raised in Doyline. He joined Kirk Chapel CME Church as a young boy.
He attended school at Union Elementary and was a 1975 graduate of Doyline High School. He served in the United States Army. He was married to Cathy White .
Mr. White Passed away Saturday, June 11, in Doyline.
He was preceded in death by his wife Cathy; his father, Holland White ; sister, Deborah Durham and three brothers, Wesley White , Scotty White and Donald White .
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy White ; two daughters, Natasha White , Dawanda Johnson ; two sons, Stanley White Jr. and Melvin Blue; two grandchildren, Emon White and Day Day; fiance, Linda Jenkins; two sisters, Diane White Lugler of Urbandale, Iowa, and Margaret White of San Leandro, Calif.; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

A.J. Callender
Funeral services for Mr. A.J. Callender, 78, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2005, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Roy Strother officiating and Father Karl Daigle assisting. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 9 p.m. today, June 15, at the funeral home.
Mr. Callender, a native of Claiborne Parish and a resident of Minden, Passed away Monday, June 13, in Minden. He was a retired truck driver with G.W. Lary Trucking Co.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie P. Callender; three sons, Robert Callender and wife Loretta of Arlington, Texas , Wayne Callender and wife Jill of Minden, Keith Callender and wife Susan; eight daughters, Theresa Stovall of Minden, Liz Strange of Minden, Mary Walston of Sarepta, Patricia Brogden and husband Jack of Bossier City, Gay Lewis and husband Michael of Minden, Janice Murph and husband Danny of Sarepta, Blanche Denman and husband Marty of Minden, Sharon Malone and husband Randy of Haughton; 22 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A special thanks to Lifepath Hospice Care Services, the Rev. Roy Strother and North Acres Baptist Church for their prayers and support.
Pallbearers will be David Parrie, Robin Allen, Matthew Callender, Kyle Lewis, Scott Malone, Jerime Vance, Joey Callender and John Volentine.

Bobby Joe Ward Sr.
Graveside services for Mr. Bobby Joe Ward Sr., 46, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2005, at Point Chapel Cemetery in Doyline with the Rev. Lee Nunley officiating. Services were under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Ward, a native of El Paso, Texas , and a resident of Doyline, Passed away Monday, June 6, in Doyline. He was a maintenance worker in the food industry.
He was preceded in death by his father, Emmett W. Ward.
He is survived by his son, Bobby Joe Ward Jr. of Doyline; daughter, Ginger Sue Ward of North Carolina; mother, Elvira Ward of Doyline; sister, Helen Cole of Shreveport; and brothers, William W. Ward of Haughton, and Johnny A. Ward of Doyline.

Frances Barrera
A memorial service for Mrs. Frances Marion Martin Barrera, 84, will be held Sunday, June 19, 2005, at United Baptist Church, 811 International Dr., Laredo, TX 78045. interment will follow in Laredo.
Mrs. Barrera, a resident of Valrico, Fla., and former resident of Sibley, Passed away Thursday, June 9, following an extended illness.
She was a member of United Baptist Church in Laredo, and a former member of First Baptist Church in Minden. Mrs. Barrera was retired from Minden Medical Center as a unit secretary. In recent years, she had been making her home with her daughter and son-in-law in Valrico.
“Fran,” as she was affectionately called, was born Feb. 6, 1921, to Weber A. Martin and Pearl M. Martin, pioneers of the Sibley area.
Her parents and two sisters, Lalu Curtis and Mildred Wall, preceded her in death. In 1946 she married Armando Galen Barrera, of Laredo, a USAF aerial photographer. They met at a Houston, Texas , air base where Fran was a phone operator. He also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, the Rev. Michael G. Barrera and wife, Polly, of Laredo; daughter, Anita B. Fields and husband, Kevin, Valrico; four grandchildren, Kandice Helms and husband, Matthew, Riverview, Fla., David Barrera and wife, Krystal of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico; SrA Daniel Barrera, Maxwell/Gunter AFB, Montgomery, Ala.; and Summer Barrera, Laredo.

Mary Stone Benton
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Stone Benton will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Minden with Father Wayne E. Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today, June 14, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Benton was born Sept. 28, 1926, in Shreveport to the late Charles and Gertrude Stone. She Passed away Monday, June 13.
She is survived by her husband, John B. Benton Jr.; three sons, John B. Benton III and wife Marian of Minden, Charles S. Benton and wife Debbie of Greensboro, Ga., Thomas K. Benton and wife Bridget of Shreveport; one daughter, Carol B. Hosler and husband Mike of Minden; two sisters, Sally Stone Treat of Shreveport, Ann Stone Blake of Lubbock, Texas ; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Byrum W. Teekell, David Klotz, Judge Tom Stagg, Frank Griffith, Frank B. Treat III, Edward Kennon, Dr. Phil Hendry and C.L. Davis Jr.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors and staff of Dubuis Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or The American Cancer Society.
