KRAFT, LOUANNA LANOUX
A resident of Ponchatoula, she died Monday, April 5, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. She was 93 and a native of Dutchtown. interment in Wetmore Cemetery. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn Kraft and Lindsey P. Richard, Denham Springs; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Kenneth A. and Lilie Mae Kraft, Valley J. and Andrea N. Kraft, Larry J. and Becky K. Kraft and Tommy W. "Pee Wee" Kraft, all of Ponchatoula; 10 grandchildren, Kenny, David and Craig Kraft, Lindsey "Peanut" and Britt Richard, Leslie Kraft Rimes, Valerie Kraft LeBoeuf, Veronica Kraft Pierson, Tiffani Kraft Carroll and Kyle Majesty; and 19 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Valley A. "Cotton" Kraft; two grandsons; four brothers, Marshall, Kernest, Johnny and Ivy Lanoux; and four sisters, Bridgett Neihaus, Lula Farragut, Faye Day and Nettie Mizell.

KUEPFERLE, EUNICE MILLET
A retired hair salon owner, Eunice Millet Kuepferle died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at 11 a.m. at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. She was 95, a native of Lake and a resident of Gonzales. Private service will be held at a later date. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, K.M. and Yvonne Shannon of Gonzales; a grandson, Michael Shannon of Exeter, R.I.; granddaughter and her husband, Trudy and Rodney Sheets of Gonzales; four great-grandchildren, Jeffery, Wesley, Erin and Reid; two great-great-grandchildren, Sarah and Blake; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Euronie Brignac Millet; first husband, Patrick M. Shannon; second husband, Octave Kuepferle; two brothers and two sisters.

LACOMBE SR., MERLIN
A beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he died Monday, April 5, 2004, at 11 p.m. He was 79 and a resident of Simmesport. He was the former president of Simmesport State Bank for more than 30 years and a member of the board of directors. He served in the U.S. Army and was the owner of Lacombe's Insurance Agency in Simmesport. He was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Simmesport. interment in Christ the King Catholic Church Cemetery, Simmesport. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Doris Roy Lacombe; two daughters, Suzanne Lacombe Lemoine and husband Kevin of Zachary, and Faye Lacombe Juneau and husband Bruce of Moreauville; three sons, Steve Lacombe and wife Helen Plauche and Tommy Lacombe and wife Elizabeth Plauche, all of Simmesport, and Merlin "Bubba" Lacombe Jr. of Prairieville; nine grandchildren, Michael Juneau, Tommy Lacombe Jr., Angelle L. Huff, Lori J. Boudreaux, Keith Lacombe, Jill L. Gaspard, Krissie Lemoine, Anthony Lacombe and Nicholas Lemoine; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Grace Ellis of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Estelle Lacombe, who were of Marksville. Pallbearers were sons-in-law, Kevin Lemoine and Bruce Juneau; Donald Ducote, Eddie Knoll, Murray Rabalais and George Mayeaux; and grandsons, Michael Juneau, Tommy Lacombe Jr., Keith Lacombe.

PAINTER, HUEY PAUL "TUT-TUT"
An operator at Chevron, he died at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 2004, in Gonzales. He was 68 and a resident and native of Gonzales. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in peacetime. interment in Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Randy May, Pierre Part; son, Paul Painter, Prairieville; brother, Robert Dale "Buddy" Painter Jr., Prairieville; two grandchildren, Hilton LeBeau III and Quentin LeBeau; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Robert Dale Sr. and Lucille Marie Millet Painter; sister, Dorothy P. Delatte; brother, J.C. Painter; and a niece, Linda Stafford. Pallbearers were his nephews and great-nephews. He was an avid musician and fisherman.

POCHE, CLIFFORD LESTER
Died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Louisiana War Veterans Home, Jackson . He was 81, a native of Paulina and former owner of P&R Electric Co. interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by his wife of 56 years, Marie Brady Poche; four daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Kenneth Braud of Gonzales, Sharon and John Reed of Baton Rouge, Deborah and Jim Kessel of Prairieville and Lola and Ray Swenty of Zachary; eight grandchildren, Shelly Barbay, Brandon Braud, Sgt. Matthew Roberts, Chris Roberts, John Reed Jr., Stephen Reed, Tanya Stilley and Jessica Thibeau; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and St. Isidore Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He cared dearly for his beloved pets and enjoyed bowling, fishing and, particularly, his crawfish boils for family and friends.

SWAIN JR., REUBIN O. "R.O."
Retired from AT&T and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, he Passed away at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 75, a native of Plaquemine and a resident of Baton Rouge. interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his loving wife, Vida Blackwell Swain of Baton Rouge; daughter, Barbara Lowry, Prairieville; son, Michael DeJarnette, Baton Rouge; two sisters, Marilyn Callegan, Plaquemine, and Bobbie Whiteside, Baton Rouge; brother, James Swain, Baton Rouge; three grandchildren, Bret Wethey and wife Rebecca Ann, Lance Wethey and James Erickson and wife Kara; seven great-grandchildren, Britany, Joshua, Cameron and Amber Wethey, Seth Wethey and Abigal "Abby" and Devon Erickson; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reubin O. Swain Sr. and Louise Schneblen Swain; and a granddaughter, Nina Marie Wethey. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Bret and Lance Wethey and James Erickson, and his nephews, Griff, Mark and Rhodes Whiteside. He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

TOLBERT, BARTON LEWIS "BART"
A retired rig superintendent for Gulf Oil and resident of Prairieville, he died at 3 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 2004, in Baton Rouge. He was 86 and a native of Malakoff, Texas . He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 90th Signal Company of the 90th Infantry Division. Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, from 9 a.m. Monday until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Paul Harris. Graveside service at Port Hudson National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Survived by his wife, Ida Blanche Eason Tolbert, Prairieville; daughter, Linda Wiggins, Prairieville; son, Lonnie and wife Sue Tolbert, Prairieville; four grandchildren, Christopher Wiggins, Tamsyn Wiggins Carpenter, Barton Chance Tolbert and Alexandra Leigh Tolbert; and a great-grandchild, Payton Noel Carpenter. Preceded in death by parents, Charlie and Della Riddlesperger Tolbert; three sisters and a brother. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Dutchtown Baptist Church.

Lucille S. Laing (02-14-2007)
Funeral services for Lucille S. Laing, 64, of Farmerville, were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007 at Farrar Funeral Home Chapel with Bros. Woody Reeder and Johnny Hankins officiated. interment followed at Mt. Tabor Cemetery under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home of Farmerville.

Mrs. Laing, a CSM at Wal-Mart in Farmerville, died on February 5, 2007. She was a member of Lake D’Arbonne Chapel in Farmerville.

Survivors are her husband, Marvin R. Laing of Farmerville; 4 sons: Leon J. Whisenhunt of Idaho; Robert Laing and wife, Roslyn of Farmerville; Larry G. Whisenhunt & wife, Jackie of CA. and Jeffery D. Laing; 1 daughter: LaDonna Sandifer & husband, James of North Richland Hills, Texas .; 1 brother: Joey Serpa of CA.; 1 sister: Dolly Rivaldi of CA.; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Dr. Fred J. Teaster (02-14-2007)
Funeral services for Dr. Fred J. Teaster were held at 2 p.m., Jan. 29, 2007 at North Monroe Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Dye officiating. interment followed at Monroe Memorial Park.

Dr. Teaster was born April 5, 1940 in Hayti, Missouri and died Jan. 26, 2007 in Minden, La. of heart failure during a River Oaks High School basketball game. Dr. Teaster, along with his family, came to Farmerville in 1969 and opened his Optometric office. He continued to practice for over 35 years in both Farmerville and West Monroe.

Dr. Teaster was a member of North Monroe Baptist Church. One of Dr. Teaster’s most rewarding pastimes was serving as a volunteer basketball coach at River Oaks School. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed many hours with his Farmerville buddies at the D’Arbonne Country Club. Dr. Teaster was proceeded in death by his parents, Georgia and Leonard Teaster.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Judy Glass Teaster of Monroe, two daughters, Shelia Ginn and husband Keith of Monroe and Jansen Clary and husband Greg of Lakeland, Fl.; brother Dr. Len Teaster and wife Martha of Pocahontas, Ark.; five grandchildren, Tyler Ginn, Lance Ginn, Karlin Aloisio, Blake Aloisio, and McCrae Clary and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends.

Pallbearers were Ben Powell, Jim Gray, John Hunter, Robert Neal, Arthur Earl and Glen McAdams.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the River Oaks basketball and football teams.

Gladys Williams (08-08-2006)
Funeral services for Gladys Williams, 88, of Farmerville were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church with Bro. Woodrow Hudson, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home of Farmerville.

Mrs. Williams, a homemaker, died Aug. 4. She was a devoted Mother and Grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She was a member of Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Nash Williams; a son, Ray Williams; 1 grandson, Wayne Gale Williams; and 3 great-granddaughters: Sarah Williams, Rachael Rollins and Randi Lane Williams.

Surviving her are 4 sons: Roy Williams & wife, Nelda of Spearsville, Ronnie Williams & wife, Betty of Farmerville, Johnny Williams & wife Shelia Ann of Farmerville, and J. N. Williams & wife, Karen of Farmerville; 2 Daughters: Kay Wade & husband, Mack of Farmerville and Mary Fay Holloway & husband, John of Truxno; 1 sister-in-law: Myra Brantley of Farmerville; 19 Grandchildren; 35 Great Grandchildren; 3 Great-great Grandchildren; and 1 Great-great-great grandchild.

Pallbearers were grandsons: Randy Williams, Lenn Williams, Rusty Williams, Joey Wade, Kevin Wade, Wayne Williams, Tommy Williams and Timmy Williams.

Honorary pallbearer were William Holloway.

Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Farrar Funeral Home.

Pamela Kay Beard (08-08-2006)
Pamela Kay Beard, 49, of Bernice, was born June 17, 1957 and Passed away Aug. 6, 2006 at Union General Hospital from a lengthy illness. There will be a memorial service for Pam at a later date. Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 7 at Farrar Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home of Farmerville. Preceding her in death were her mother and father, Gussie and Billy Stinson.

She is survived by her son, Michael Wayne Stinson; grandchildren, Jason Michael Stinson and Adam Roberts; sister, Connie Mitchell; brother, Ronald Stinson and many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and dear friends.

She was an active member of Connect Point Church of Bernice and was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

Beth Ann Smith (08-08-2006)
Funeral Services for Beth Ann Smith, age 19, of Farmerville, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Farmerville. Officiating will be Rev. David Martin. interment will follow at Concord Cemetery.

Beth Ann was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church, she was Valedictorian of Farmerville High School in 2005 and attended Louisiana Tech University in the Medical Technology field where she was on the Dean’s List.

Beth loved all of her friends and never met a stranger. She is preceded in death by her grandfathers, Clinton A. Smith and Russell E. James.

She is survived by her parents Randy and Judy Smith of Farmerville; maternal grandmother Essie Mae James of Chesapeake, Va.; paternal grandmother, Betty A. Smith of Farmerville; brother Brad Smith of Farmerville; best friend and sister, Jana Clower and husband Jeremy and niece Mallory Clower all of Okinawa, Japan; boyfriend, P.J. Ramsey and his mother Chantay Ramsey and her husband Kenneth and their daughter Anna Marie Ramsey, her best friend Madison Barton and her parents Kerry and Scott Barton of Farmerville, LA; their children Taylor and Alex Barton, all of whom Beth Ann adored; other special friend Pagan Peaks; and a host of Uncles, Aunts and friends.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Rogillio, John Anderson, Jeremy Newsom, Ryan Darden, Seth Barron and James Franklin.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Madison Barton, Jamie Myers, Jessie Myers, Pagan Peaks, Leeann Cole and Lacy Adams.

Visitation were held Aug. 8, 5 to 8 p.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville.

John Tom Morrow (08-22-2006)
John Tom Morrow of Bernice went to be with his Lord and Savior on Aug. 13, 2006 after a lengthy illness.

Born May 26, 1932 to William Blonde Morrow and Alma Jones Morrow, he is preceded in death by his son, John Lane Morrow; grandson Nikalas Winfrey; brother, Herman Morrow and sister, Myrtle McGee.

John was a devoted husband and father and he will be forever loved and missed by his wife and partner of 49 years, Dorothy Johnstone Morrow; daughters, Stephanie Lorick & husband, Lee of Haughton.; Mickie Cobb and husband, Larry of LaPorte, Texas ; Fran Fortson of Madison, WI.; Wendy Winfrey and husband, Bruce of Ouray, CO. and Rosemary Morales and husband, Kenny of Baton Rouge.

He leaves behind to cherish memories of special times, his grandchildren, Dusty Stephenson and wife, Amanda; Jess & Vann Lorick; Kelsey Winfrey; Sebastian and Abram Morales and great grandson John Franklin Stephenson. He is also survived by his brother, Clyde Morrow and sister Agnes Burns and numerous nieces and nephews. John served in the U.S. Army and following his discharge as a Sgt. E5, he started the Morrow Bros.
Logging Co. which he continued to own and operate with his brother Clyde until he joined the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He retired in 1995.

John loved playing dominoes with his friends and had a passion for horses and gardening. He leaves us with countless memories.

Under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home, visitation was Aug. 16, from 5-8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bernice. Family visitation was from 4-5 p.m. A memorial service was held Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bernice.

Louisiana State Rep. James P. Smith (08-22-2006)
Louisiana State Rep. James Peyton Smith of Farmerville, Louisiana , Passed away Monday, August 14, 2006 at St. Francis –North Hospital, Monroe, following a lengthy illness. He was born in the Conway Community of Union Parish on September 6, 1925.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Reverend and former State Representative J. Duff and Sallie Jane Turner Smith; brothers Milas, John Allen and J.D. Smith; sisters Estelle Hollis, Emma Brantley, Mary Lou Hicks and Sarah Parsons; one grandson , Nathaniel A. Smith, and one great-grandson, David Nolan Mashaw.

Mr. Smith leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife of more than 60 years, Foye Nolan Smith, of Farmerville. three sons James Bradley and wife Nikki of Farmerville; Danny Allen and wife Ann, of Marion; Max Graham and wife, JoAnne, of West Monroe; two daughters Roslyn A Smith and husband Stan, of Farmerville; and Jayne Smith-Green and husband, Bobby, of Farmerville. Grandchildren are James Bradley Smith, Jr. and wife Michelle, of West Monroe; Phillip Matthew Smith and wife, Tiffany, of Farmerville; J. Wayne Williams and wife, Christina, of West Monroe; Kristy Michelle Smith, of Farmerville; Daniel A. Smith of Lafayette; Jonathan G. Smith of West Monroe; Joseph B. Smith and wife, Mandi, of West Monroe; Brandi Smith Mashaw and husband, Marc of Farmerville; Jennifer Smith Williams and husband Wayne, of Farmerville; Leslie Jayne Smith, of Farmerville; Janelle Burford Snelling and husband, George, IV, of Monroe; Chad Kenneth Burford and wife Morgan, of Farmerville; and twenty-one great grandchildren. Other survivors include one sister, Lucille Dawson, of Iowa, Louisiana ; two sisters-in-law Martha McCrary, Rodessa, and Francis Smith, of Dubach, LA; one brother-in-law Guy A Parsons, of Brookhaven, MS, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Smith proudly served his country during World War II, Battle of the Bulge, 106th Infantry Division, having been awarded a Bronze Star Medal for combat bravery. He was ordained by Antioch Baptist Church as a Deacon in August, 1946, where he actively served until his death. Memberships include Gideons International, Farmerville Lions Club, Past Master of Union Farternal Lodge #53, 32nd Degree Mason, Past Patron Order of Eastern Star #207, American Legion Post #149 V.F.W. and Woodman of the World.

Smith represented Union and Morehouse parishes in the Louisiana Legislature, was employed as Sergeant at Arms in the State Senate, and retired with more than thirty-three years of cumulative service to the State of Louisiana .

Special interests, projects and accomplishments included volunteering as the primary caretaker for Elgin Spring located on Highway 2 near Farmerville, caretaker for Antioch
Cemetery for sixty years, and obtained and erected a monument on the Alabama Landing Road near Dean Community for an “unknown” Civil War Soldier.

Mr. Smith was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed all aspects, especially hunting and fishing. Memorial services were at 3 p.m. on Aug. 16, at Antioch Baptist Church. Officiating was Rev. Don Wright and Rev .Paul Carter.

Pallbearers were grandsons James Bradley Smith Jr. Phillip Smith, Wayne Williams, Daniel A. Smith, Jonathan G. Smith, Joseph B. Smith and Chad K. Burford, George M. Snelling, IV, Wayne Williams and Marc Mashaw. Honorary Pallbearers; Great- grandsons; Adrian Smith, Peyton Smith, Cole M. Smith, Justin Lee Stripling, Claiborne Smith, Garrett Young, J. Graham Smith, Grant Samuel Mashaw and Blayne K. Burford and lifelong friends Eugene F. Love of Winnfield, and Bill G. Halley of Farmerville.

Sally Anna Houser Head (08-26-2006)
Funeral services for Sally Anna Houser Head, 86, of Marion, LA. were held

Willie Belle Owens (08-26-2006)
Funeral services for Willie Belle Owens, 104, of Downsville, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 24, 2006 at the Mt. Ararat Baptist Church where she was the oldest living member. Officiating was Rev. Jerry Whitman assisted by Rev. David Barkley. interment followed in Mt. Ararat Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville.

Willie Belle was born on Aug. 18, 1902 in Marion, Louisiana to the union of Samuel Obie Kenley and Ada Everette Kenly, one of six children, they had a very hard life, losing their mother to death when the youngest child was a baby. They moved around a lot, but their daddy always kept the family together.

Dec. 31, 1918 she was married to Robert H. Owens and shortly there after he went into a veteran’s hospital for treatment of lung problems resulting from being hit with parsian gas while fighting in WWI in France. He was confined in the hospital for 3 years. She went to work in Alexandria to be near him and kept her marriage strong. Willie Belle always adjusted to what ever situation she faced, and made the best of it. She has always been a survivor in any situation she faced, no matter how difficult it became, she trusted Jesus as her savior at an early age, and she learned to lean on him at all times.

Bob Passed away in 1966 and again she faced a new challenge of being alone as her girls were married with families of their own. Although they never had much in material things they both always were willing to share with those in need, she continued to be a kind and loving and giving friend to everyone she met. When she went into the nursing home at the age of 92 she adjusted well and was loved by the residents and staff. She will be greatly missed by many, many people. She is survived by her two daughters, Bettye Boyd and Bobbie Cox and husband Bo, all of Downsville, James Patrick of West Monroe the son they always wanted and the only brother Bobbie and Bettye ever had, seven grandchildren – Billy King and wife Lou, Bobby King and wife Carol, Donna Lewis and husband Scott, John Cox and wife Rhonda, Danny Boyd and wife Sherry and Robbie Boyd , Marty Boyd and wife Sissy. great -grandchildren Angelia Borden and husband Clay, Amanda McDaniel and husband Josh, Jonathan King, Emily King, Valerie King, Dan Boyd, Beth Zachry and husband Erik, Ginger Boyd, Derek Mims, Lane Mims, Harold Cox and Hunter Cox; 3 great-great-grandchildren Chase, Noah and Grace Borden and looking forward to a fourth one in February.

Pallbearers will be: great-grandsons.
