Gladys Hayes (10-02-2006)
Gladys Eleanor Hayes was born on September 24, 1915, in Union Parish and died on Sunday October 1, 2006. She was 91 years old.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Farmerville. Officiating was Rev. James Mooney. interment will follow in Rocky Branch Cemetery under direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home.

She was preceded in death by her husband Olan Hayes.

Survivors include her three children, Olan Glenn Hayes and wife Susan of Junction City, Ark; Bettye Ruth Spillers and husband Kenneth of Calhoun, LA; Gloria Nell Spencer and husband Mayer of Rocky Branch, LA; foster son Bennie Hilbert, Five grandchildren, Jeremy Hayes, Bruce Spencer and wife Jen; Johnny Spencer and wife Margaret; Darrel Williams and wife Jenell; and Sonya Taylor and husband Stuart. Seven great- grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, one sister, Myrceal Austin and numerous foster children.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice nurses Amy and Nicki.
Pallbearers will be: grand-children and great-grand children.

Daniel E. Nyegaard (10-06-2006)
Funeral services for Daniel E. Nyegaard, 94, of Farmerville will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6, 2006 at Farrar Funeral Home in Farmerville with Bro. David Martin officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Ararat Cemetery, Downsville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home.

Mr. Nyegaard, a retired carpenter, died Wednesday, Oct. 4th. He was member of First Baptist Church of Farmerville and an avid gardener.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Avis Nyegaard.

He is survived by his brother-in-law, Bill Skains of Farmerville and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Charles Nyegaard, Fredrick Lee Nyegaard, John Yelton, Jay Yelton, Shorty Aulds and Mickey Turner.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Farrar Funeral Home in Farmerville.

Frankie Daniels (10-09-2006)
Mrs. Frankie Daniels, 81 of Arkansas City, Ark., formerly of Farmerville, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006 at her daughter's residence in Arkansas City, Ark. Mrs. Daniels was a native of Farmerville, a homemaker, and a member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in deth by her parents, Clinton and Estella Colvin Wines, one brother, Clinton Wines, Jr., and three sisters: Clara Collins, Pearl Ross and Grady Simmons.

She is survived by one son, Colvin Wine of Farmerville, one daughter, Sarah, husband Terry Gilbert of Arkansas City, Ark, one sister, Betty Davis of Crossett, AR, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy L. Carr officiating. Pallbearers are grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Deacons of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Burial in Zion Hill Cemetery under the directions of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg, Ark.

Estelle Toney (10-09-2006)
Nobie Estelle Toney of Sterlington, was born on Aug. 15, 1919, in Moro Bay, Ark., she Passed away on Oct. 5, 2006. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2006 at Good Hope Cemetery near Marion. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon before service at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville. Officiating will be Rev. Paul McComack, under direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years Curtis D. Toney, daughters; Mary Magdelene Bowen and Alice Stires.

Survived by her sons, Curtis Harold Toney and wife DiAnn of Alta Loma, Calif.; Richard Toney of Riverside, Calif.; daughters, Brenda Hall Bowen of Sterlington; grandsons, Cecil A. Tackett and wife Pamela of Spencer; Curtis Lovell Tacket and wife Laurie of Manor, Texas ; Brian Stires and wife Cindy of Sterlington; John Wesley Stires and wife Ann of Simi Valley, Calif.; Curtis Ray Nichols and wife Susan of Dunn, North Carolina; Vern Breland and wife Melissa of Sterlington; Michael Breland and wife Jerri of Spearsville; Rick Toney of Alto Loma, Calif.

Granddaughters, Cherie Miller of Marion; Robin Smilor and husband Michael of Alto Loma, Calif.; Debbie Reitzell and husband Ray of Clarks; Kathy Allen and husband Randall of Coats, N.C.; Toni Thompson and husband Randy of Sterlington, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

James T. ‘Bud’ Sharp (10-18-2006)
Funeral services for James T. “Bud” Sharp, 75, of Farmerville, LA, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Farmerville. Officiating was Bro. Glen Nale. interment followed in Enterprise Cemetery.

Bud loved all sports especially baseball and softball, he coached a Big 8 Semi pro ball team for two years and softball for many years.

He served in the United States Army for 3 years and was stationed in Beirut, Lebanon and Germany.

Mr. Sharp is preceded in death by his father, Willie Sharp and mother, Zola Sharp, brothers, J.T. Sharp, Harold Sharp, Eugene Sharp, John Willie Sharp, Donald Sharp and one sister Eva Sharp.

Survivors include Louise Rosson and Marcia Lee Dumas of Farmerville, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: Jimmy Rosson, Tom Lindsey, Duane Dean, J.D. Junior Dumas, John Beasley Sharp and Brad Harrison.

Honorary: Vernon Sharp, Larry Bennett Taylor , Reggie Dumas, Joe Scarborough, Larry Booth, Bobby Fletcher, Rannie Traylor, “Doodle” Harvey, Nathan Futch, Elvin Futch, Ronnie Dumas, Johnny Rosson, Randy Dumas and Frankie Ponder.

Visitation was at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, Monday, Oct. 16, 2006 from 5 to 8 p.m. in Farmerville.

Beth Nicole Tucker (10-18-2006)
Beth Nicole Tucker of Little Rock, Ark. was born July 2, 1981 in Amarillo, Texas , the daughter of Scotty Dale Tucker and Kathleen Martin Tucker. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Farmerville, Louisiana , a 1999 Graduate of Sheridan High School where she was active in 4-H, and Sheridan FFA.

She was also a member of the Purple Circle Club, Junior Cattleman’s Association, Red Brangus Association, and Saler Association. She was also a student at Pulaski Technical College.
Miss Tucker died at her home on Oct. 12, 2006 at the age of 25.

Survivors; Son, Alec Wade Tucker of the home; Mother, Kathleen Tucker of Jefferson , Ark.; Father, Scotty Tucker of Avery, Texas ; Sister and brother in law, Kimberly and Scott McMillan of Jefferson , Arkansas; Nieces, Haylee, Destiny; Brother and sister in law, Scott and Marie Tucker of Quitman; Nieces, Cassie and Cara; Grandparents, Eurma and Albert Lee Martin of Jefferson , Arkansas; Rose and Clyde Tucker of Farmerville, Louisiana ;

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan with Bro. Bruce Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at Jones Cemetery near Redfield. Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Arrangements were by Memorial Gardens Funeral Home of Sheridan (870) 942-1306.

James M. Simpson (10-18-2006)
Funeral services for Mr. James M. Simpson, 82, of Farmerville were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2006 at First Baptist Church, Farmerville with Bros. Michael Howard, Kurt Auger and Jeff Autrey officiating.

Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery, Farmerville under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home.
Mr. Simpson, retired from Marlin Drilling Co., died Friday, Oct. 13.

He was a deacon at First Baptist Church, a two-time Past Master at Masonic Lodge #53, and a past District Deputy of the Grand Lodge.

Preceding him in death were his parents: James Marvin Simpson, Sr. and Dollie Aulds Simpson; one brother, Travis L. Simpson; one sister, Mary Inez Simpson; and step-father, Earl Aulds.

Survivors are his wife, Amy M. Simpson of Farmerville; 3 sons: Marvin “Skipper” Simpson and wife, Sharon of Sterlington; Kenny Simpson and wife, Kathy of Conway; and Richard R. Simpson of Farmerville; 1 sister: Ophelia S. Autrey of Farmerville; 6 grandchildren: Lisa Reed, Julie Bush, Amanda Mann, Brantley Simpson, Shawn Simpson and April Kaheiki; 9 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers are Fred Autrey, Shawn Simpson, Brantley Simpson, Jimmy Grier, Ron Autrey and Phil Morris.

Honorary pallbearers are A. C. Buckley, Al Woods , Dennis Kennedy, Bro. David Martin, Royce Dyer and Kent Morris.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Farrar Funeral Home.

George E. Foster (10-18-2006)
Funeral services for George E. Foster age, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at Bethel Methodist Church. Officiating will be Bro. Owen Payton and Pastor Carolyn Balentine. interment will be at Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Downsville. Arrangements are under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville.

Mr. Foster was a member of Bethel Methodist Church. He worked at Thermatomic Carbon Co. and IMC for a total of 32 years, retiring in 1986. During this time he also enjoyed farming and continued farming after retirement. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the Army Air Corp. from 1943 to 1945 as a radio operator on C47 aircraft.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Frankie Foster of Downsville; son, Mike Foster of New Orleans; sister-in-law Helen Britton of Eudora, Ark.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006 from 5-7 p.m. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville.

Larene B. “Jo” Simpson (10-24-2006)
Funeral Services for Larene B. “Jo” Simpson of Farmerville, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Farmerville. Officiating will be Rev. Roger Johnson . interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Simpson was a member of the First Baptist Church in Farmerville. She was an active member of Gleaners Sunday school class and was a very active and devoted mother and grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her husband James E. “Tip” Simpson, her parents Jim Clyde and Carine Brasher and a brother Mitchell Brasher.

She is survived by one son Eddie Joe Simpson and wife Marcie of Jonesboro; two daughters Rean and Dean Simpson both of Farmerville; three granddaughters Lindsey, Shelby and Jolea Simpson all of Jonesboro; one sister, Lou Nell Taylor of West Monroe; two brothers, Jimmy Brasher and wife Dorothy of West Monroe; Bob Brasher and wife Doris of Ruston; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to charity of donor’s choice.

Pallbearers will be: Rannie Russell, Shorty Aulds, Roger Simpson, Bobby Brasher, Barry Brasher, Bruce Patton, Greg Clary and Anthony Yakaboski.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Keith Kenley, Clifford Simpson, George Cothran and Jimmy Odom.

Visitation will be at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006 from 5 to 8 p.m. in Farmerville.

Elese Elizabeth “Mammy” Fitzgerald (10-24-2006)
Funeral services for Elese Fitzgerald, 96 of Bernice, was held at 2 p.m. Oct. 22, 2006 at Pisgah Baptist Church in Bernice. Officiating was Rev. Jerry Dark, Rev. M.F. Copland and Bro. Glenn Niemeyer.

Mrs. Fitzgerald was the oldest member of Pisgah Baptist Church she was preceded in death by her parents Larkin and Maggie Dendy and 9 siblings, one grandson Dickie Fitzgerald one step-son Lavette Tabor. She became known as “Mammy” through her grandchildren and the children she baby-sat.

She is survived by her children, Janet Philbrook of Bernice; Harold Shap Fitzgerald and wife Madeline of Stonewall; Stephen Melton Fitzgerald and wife Ruby of Port Neches, Texas ; Irene Elizabeth Fitzgerald of Bernice; Judy Gray and husband Jimmy Wayne of Bernice; 17 grandchildren and 30 great -grand children, 19 great –great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Corey Beckham, Johnny Niemeyer, Phillip Flurry Brandon Norris, Joe Alexander, Gary Niemeyer, Gary Dickerson, Victor Avery and Randy Singleton.
Honorary Pallbearers were Deacons of Pisgah Baptist Church.

Visitation was held at 5 to 8p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at Pisgah Baptist Church in Bernice.

Etta Crow Baker (11-02-2006)
Funeral services for Etta Crow Baker 78 of Marion, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Marion, LA. Officiating will be Bro. Bubba Hoggatt. interment will follow in Concord Cemetery.

Mrs. Baker Passed away on Oct. 26, 2006 after a brief illness. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marion. She was preceded in death by her husband Dewey Baker, sisters, Lillie Mae White and Jeanette Cole; brother, William Crow.

She is survived by her sons; Phillip Baker and wife Etta Jane of Marion, LA; Jerry Baker and wife Johnnie of Marion; grandchildren, Chris Baker and wife Cesta of West Monroe, LA; Jason Baker of Marion; Chelsey Baker of Marion, LA; Abby Baker of Marion, LA; brother, Dewitt Crow of Farmerville; sister, Mattie Crow of Marion, LA; and Hazel Vestal of Marion.
Pallbearers will be: Sam Winston, Charles Hamby, Charlie Medlin, Walter Medlin, Mikey Miller, Carl Lemoine, Aaron Booker and Gene Pridgen.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Spence Allen and Allen Booker.

Special Friends: Olivia Arrant, Renata Hill, Jackie Hamilton, Denise Hamilton, Jane Hamby, Linda Hoggatt, Cathy Booker and Dawn Gulley.

Visitation will be at the First Baptist Church in Marion, Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Henry ‘Mitch’ Hicks (11-08-2006)
Henry “Mitch” Hicks, 80, retired civil service mechanical engineer for McConnell Air Force Base, died Nov. 4, 2006. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Resthaven Mortuary.
Mr. Hicks had degrees in Business Administration and Mechanical Engineering from Louisiana Tech University, Ruston.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Helen; stepson, John Short of Ft. Worth, Texas ; sister, Mary Kate Haydel of Pascagoula, Miss.; niece, Tommie Jean of Wetumpka Ala.; several cousins in Farmerville, LA.; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Howard Hicks Scholarship Fund, c/o Robert Earle, P.O. Drawer 518, Farmerville, LA 71241.

B.T. ‘Troy’ Foster (11-08-2006)
Funeral services for B. T. (Troy) Foster, 99, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2006 at Mt. Union Baptist Church in Spearsville. Mr. Foster will lie in state for visitation on Sunday, November 5, 2006 beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the family home. Officiating will be Bro. Jerod Hawthorne and Bro. Forrest Post. interment will follow at Mt. Union Cemetery.

Mr. Foster was born Dec. 13, 1906 and Passed away Nov. 4, 2006. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Foster was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Spears Foster, after 67 years of marriage, eleven siblings, twin great-grandsons and son-in-law, Carl D. Elkins.

He is survived by his children, Elaine Elkins; Dr. John D. Foster and wife Rosemary; Patsy R. Nash and husband Charles; and Cindy Haney and husband, Bruce, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Craig, Dwain, Eddie, Damien, Graham, Christian and friend Tom Elkins.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Risinger, Alvin Green, Virgil Rhodes and Dick Aulds.

Pansey Lee Reeves Hope (11-21-2006)
Funeral Services for Pansey Lee Reeves Hope 87, of Bernice, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006 at Evergreen Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Mike Smith, Rev. Coy Upshaw and Rev. Charles Davis. interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Hope is a life long resident of Bernice, and longtime member of Evergreen Baptist Church also a member of Triad. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Reeves and Lois Reeves, brothers, James W. Reeves (Red), Hubert Reeves and Prentice Reeves.

She is survived by her daughters, Michele “Micki” Meason and husband J. Marion of Russellville, Ark.; Elizabeth Ann Towns of Bernice; son, Larry Reeves Hope and wife Ruth of Bernice,; sister, Daisy Swanner of Conroe, TX; Violet Day of Bastrop, LA; Rose Funderburk of Bernice,; brother’s, Joe Reeves and Charles Reeves of Evergreen, grandchildren, Joseph Hope, Katrina Hope, Lynne Knight, Michael Meason, Matthew, Andrew and Annalee Towns, 6 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Jeff Funderburk, Michael LaRoe, Matthew Towns, Mike Reeves, Michael Meason, Dennis Reeves.

Honorary pallbearers were: Joe Reeves, Charles Reeves and Andrew Towns.
Memorials may be made to Evergreen Baptist Church.

Visitation was from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2006 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Church.
