Funeral services for Hal W. Kelley, 97, of Downsville, LA. will be held at 2:00PM Friday, July 20, 2007 at Farrar Funeral Home with Rev. Carolyn Volentine officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Downsville.

Arrangements are under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home of Farmerville.

Mr. Kelley, a retired electrician, died July 17, 2007.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Kelley.

He is survived by 2 daughters: Joye Kelley Graves & husband, Larry and Barbara Kelley Rising & husband, Doug; 2 Grandchildren: Lisa Graves Smith & husband, Ron and Joe Rising;

1 Great grandchild: Alan Smith; and several sisters-in-law, nieces & nephews.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Visitation was be 5-7 PM Thursday, July 19th at Farrar Funeral Home, Farmerville.

Mildred Cox Eubanks (07-25-2007)
Funeral services for Mildred Cox Eubanks, 81, of Farmerville will be held at 3:00PM Saturday, July 21, 2007 at Farrar Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Richmond officiating.

Burial will be in Sardis Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home of Farmerville.

Mrs. Eubanks, a homemaker, went to be with her Lord on July 19, 2007.

She loved Jesus with all of her heart.

She was a loving Mother and Grandmother who was devoted to her family and was a caring, compassionate person and a friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin G. Eubanks; daughter, Lillie E. Smith; 7 sisters and 5 brothers.

She is survived by 2 sons: Austin Eubanks & wife, Margaret of Monroe; Donnie Eubanks & wife, Katherine of West Monroe; 2 daughters: Georgia E. Crain of Farmerville and Mollie E. Redden & husband, Ervin of Farmerville.

Special granddaughter: Theresa E. Cubbit; 11 other dear grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chris Eubanks, Stephen Cubbit, David Cubbit, Chris Holloway, Mark Dean and LeRoy Rice.

Visitation will be from 1:00-until time of service at Farrar Funeral Home, Farmerville.

Mildred Ozelle Brantley Mann (08-01-2007)
Services for Mildred Ozelle Brantley Mann, age 80 of Downsville, were held at 2:00 p m on July 19, 2007 at Mt Ararat Baptist Church near Downsville, LA with Bros. Ken Richmond and Junior Bayles officiating.

Mrs. Mann was born on July 19, 1926 and was called home on July 17, 2007.

A member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, she was a devoted housewife and mother.

She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 57 years, Lehman M. “L. M.” Mann; 2 brothers, Charlie Brantley and Arlon Brantley; 7 sisters, Leona McAdams, Flora Allen, Ezma Antley, Lottie Stiles, Audrey Skains, Ike Allen and Merlene Bridges; 3 brothers-in-law, Clyde Mann, Charlie C. Mann and Lavelle Mann.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Beverly Redden and husband Jimmy of Downsville, LA; Pat Duet of Lockport, LA; Terri Antley and husband Lonnie of Downsville LA; l son Charles Mann of Spearsville, LA; 2 sons-in-law, Paul G. Duet of Galliano, LA and Harold Guice of Downsville, LA; 1 daughter-in-law, Debbie Mann of Downsville, LA; 1 sister Shirley Crain of West Monroe, LA; 2 sisters-in-law, Lillie V. Colvin of Dubach and Christine Albritton of Farmerville, LA; 10 grandchildren, Nikki Brantley, John Mann, Jalanna Jones, Jennifer Mann, Trampis Duet, Rayne Guidroz, Jarred Duet, Jason Guice, Justin Guice and Jessie Guice; 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.

Pallbearers were: Jason Guice, John Mann, Brandon Brantley, Jarred Paul Duet, Darren Jones and Jimmy Redden.

Honorary Pallbearers: William Bridges, Justin Guice, Trampis Duet and Jarred Duet.

Jeroline Golsby Love (08-01-2007)
Funeral Services for Jeroline Golsby Love, 76, of Linville, LA, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2007, at Liberty Baptist Church in Linville, LA.

Officiating will be Bro. Tracy Boyd and Bro. Paul King.

interment will follow in Liberty Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Love is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Bertie Golsby; husband, Jack Rodney Love.

She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Kay Love Day and husband Gordon “Buddy” of Linville, LA; son, Kenneth Stacy Love and wife Connie Elizabeth Morgan Love of Norco, LA; 4 grandchildren, Carl Shannon Day; Johnathan Lloyd Day; Daniel Vaughn Morgan Love; Mikey Kenneth Love; sister, Maxine Beasley of Farmerville, LA.
Pallbearers will be: Junior Bordelon; Shane Middleton; Lanny Parker; Buster Maxey; Bob Buckley; Richard Sanders.

Honorary Pallbearers: Charlie Smith.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 31, 2007 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church in Linville.

Alice Inez Bowen (08-01-2007)
Funeral Services for Alice Inez Bowen, 91, of Marion, LA, were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel in Farmerville, LA.

Officiating was Bro. Bubba Hoggett.

interment followed in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bowen Passed away at Union General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

She loved to crochet.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Percy Bowen; brothers, J.C. and Phillip Halsey.

She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Booker and husband Allen of Marion, LA; grandchildren: Brian Booker and wife Susan of Farmerville, LA; Jarod Booker of Marion, LA; Rob Booker and wife Stacey of Marion, LA; Aaron Booker and wife Kassie of Marion, LA; sister, Lurlene Lawrence of Bellingham, WA; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Larry Jones; Darrell Robinson; Mark Andrews; Paul Tarter; Lum Farr and Ben Stuart.

Visitation was held Tuesday, July 31, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. until service time at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville, LA.

Wendell S. “Bud” Janson (08-08-2007)
Farmerville, LA.

Funeral services for Wendell S. “Bud” Janson, 89, of Irving, TX. (formerly of Farmerville) will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at Union Grove Baptist Church, Lillie with Bro. David Martin officiating.

Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home of Farmerville.

Mr. Janson, a retired Federal Civil Service employee, died August 1, 2007.

He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U. S. Army and a member of Union Grove Baptist Church in Lillie, La.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Annie L. Janson and sister, Esther Kinsley.

He is survived by:

2 daughters: Beverly A. Janson of Louisville, Ky. and Rhonda Janson Unger & husband, Don of Irving, Tx.;

2 grandsons: Robert Unger & Matthew Unger of Irving, Tx.;

1 sister: Helen Fusselman of Courtland, Oh.;

Beloved companion: “Goldie”; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Pallbearers are Bud Farrar, Jerry Kennedy, Don Unger, Robby Unger, Matt Unger, Jim Stanton and Tim Washam.

Visitation will be 5-8 pm Tuesday at Farrar Funeral Home, Farmerville.

Robert L. Howard (08-15-2007)
Funeral services for Robert L. Howard, age 85 of Rocky Branch, La. were at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Rocky Branch, LA with Rev. Michael Howard and Rev. Ryan Chapman officiating.

interment will follow in the Rocky Branch Cemetery.

Visitation was Friday from 4 - 9 p.m. at the Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Howard; parents: Elzie James Howard and Margaret Elizabeth Howard.

Robert is survived by his son: Michael Howard & wife Bettye of Oak Grove, LA; daughter: Janie Chapman & husband Richard of Rocky Branch, LA; 3 grandchildren: Steffanie Fowler & husband Jason, Matthew Chapman & wife Mary Ann, Ryan Chapman & wife Amanda; 8 great grandchildren: Noah Chapman, Eli Chapman, Luke Chapman, Owen Chapman, William Chapman, Jack Chapman, Benjamin Fowler, Brant Fowler.

Pallbearers : Bob Chapman, J.C. Honeycutt, Ryan Chapman, Matt Chapman, Wendell S. “Bud” Janson.

Winnifred Virginia Smith Baldwin (08-15-2007)
A celebration of the life of Winnifred Virginia Smith Baldwin (Winnie) will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Bernice, Louisiana , on Thursday, August 16, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon with the Reverend Johnie Atkins presiding.

A native of Monroe, Winnie was the older of two children of Johanna Irby Smith and Floyd Worthington Smith.

Winnie was graduated from Neville High School in Monroe and Louisiana Tech University in Ruston and pursued additional university work at LSU in Shreveport, where she participated in the International Studies program and developed on-going academic interests in the Spanish language and art history.

Her unflagging commitment to literacy, culture and aesthetic improvement was absolute.

Her career in the US Postal Service included assignments in Monroe, Dubach, Mer Rouge, Collinston, and Bernice, the last four of which she served as postmaster.

In 1982, she was honored as Postmaster of the Year by the Louisiana branch of the National League of Postmasters.

Prior to retirement, Winnie became fascinated with foreign cultures and traveled with her husband Jack to such destinations as Great Britain, France, Italy, Greece, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, and Mexico.

These journeys encouraged her in the development of a second career as a travel writer.

She and her husband co-authored numerous articles which appeared in such major newspapers as the Dallas Morning News, the Denver Post, and the San Antonio Express.

Pelican Publishing Company published Baldwin’s Guide to the Inns of the Deep South, Baldwin’s Guide to the Inns of Mississippi, Baldwin’s Guide to the Inns of Louisiana , Weekend Getaways in Mississippi, and Baldwin’s Guide to the Museums of Louisiana .

Following Jack’s death, Winnie continued to write numerous articles for the Farmerville Gazette and the Bernice Banner.

Organizations recognizing her contributions to life in north Louisiana included the Louisiana Travel Promotion Association, the Louisiana Bed and Breakfast Association, the Louisiana Sea Grant College Program, the Officer’s Spouses Club of Fort Polk, the Union Parish Chamber of Commerce, and the Northeast Louisiana Arts Council.

Survivors include three sons, Chris Baldwin of Dallas, Texas ; Bob Baldwin and his wife Lynda and their children, West and Parker of Bernice; John Baldwin and his wife Marilyn of Shreveport; and her brother James W. Smith and his family of Monroe.

At Winnie’s request, her body has been donated to the LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport.

The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks to Mrs. Lucille Thompson, who assisted Winnie in numerous ways through the years, and to the dedicated employees of Agape Hospice in Ruston, who assured that her final days were comfortable.

In lieu of flowers, family members request that donations be made to the Bernice United Methodist Church, the Henrietta Lee Endowment of the Louisiana Tech University Library in Ruston, the American Cancer Association, or any other charity of the donor’s choosing.

Diane Martinez (08-22-2007)
Mass and funeral services for Diane Martinez, age 15, of Bernice were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 18 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Farmerville.

Martinez Passed away August 14.

Burial was in the Bernice City Cemetery under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home of Farmerville.

Lucille Redden Woodall (08-22-2007)
Funeral Services for Lucille Redden Woodall, 85, of Farmerville, LA, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at Sardis Baptist Church in Farmerville, LA.

Officiating was Bro. Richard Shreve.

interment followed in Sardis Cemetery in Farmerville, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville, LA.

Mrs. Woodall was a member of Sardis Baptist Church in Farmerville, LA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Arthur Woodall and a son, William Glen Woodall.

She is survived by her sons, Thomas Wayne Woodall and wife, Bea of Monroe, LA; Bobby Gene Woodall and wife, Dawn of Houston, TX; 9 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers: Jonathan Woodall, Steve Johnson , Justin Fox, Richard Evans, Devone Woodall Jr., John Preaus.

Wendell S. “Bud” Janson (08-22-2007)

Joe Wayne “Cooter” Boyette, age 61, of Bernice Passed away Aug. 21.

Funeral services were held Fri., Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. at Bernice United Methodist Church with internment followed in Bernice Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home.

Visitation was Aug. 23 from 5-8 p.m.
