Braud

Robert Gilbert Braud, a retired Shell Oil employee and charter member of the Marshal Duck Clud, died Friday, June 7 at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. He was 92 years old.

Braud was a native of Prairieville and a resident of Norco for the past 73 years. He is survived by his beloved wife Marguerite ‘Maggie’ Marchand Braud. Father and father-in-law of Maycel Braud Joseph, the late Betrous ‘Joe’ Joseph, Clark Braud and Vicki Braud, Arlen Braud and Karen Braud, and the late Robert Gilbert, Jr. He was the last living son of the late Gilbert P. Braud and Sarazine Braud of Prairieville and the brother of the late Emile, James and Pamala Braud and Martha Babin. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, June 11 at Sacred Heart Catholic CHurch in Norco. Entombment followed at Prairieville Cementery in Prairieville.

Dufrene

Joseph G. Dufrene, a retired pipefitter at Avondale Shipyard, died Friday June 7 of cardiopulmonary arrest at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was 76.

Dufrene, a native of Raceland, was a resident of Westwego for 53 years. He was an Army veteran and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with two bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Philippine Independence Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.

He is survived by his son Dennis P. Dufrene and his daughter Jeanelle D. Odom. Brother of Aman Dufrene, Ida Toups, Earline Badeaux and Julia Chaisson. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday June 10 at Mothe Funeral Home on Marrero and Burial followed at Heaven Mausoleum in Westwego.

Alexander

Duane Louis Alexander, a native of Luling and a resident of Brooklyn, N.Y. died on June 9. He was 37.

Alexander was the beloved son of Hubert and Dolores Rabalais Alexander. Brother of Rickie ALexander, Darlene Buras, Stephanie Alexander, and Kris Cornish. He was the grandson of Dlo Rabalais and the late Penn Rabalais.

Troxclair was a graduate of Hahnville High School.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend memorial services today at 10 am at H.C. Alexander Funeral Home of Norco.

Gearheard

Marguerite Faucheux Gearheard, a native and life long resident of Lutcher died at her home on Friday. She was 91.

Gearheard was beloved wife of the late Arthur Grant “A.G.” Gearheard Jr. She was mother of William J. “Bill” Gearheard and his wife Connie of Mandeville, the late Arthur “Grant” Gearheard III, and Margo Gearheard Jacobs. She was sister of Myrtis Faucheux Blount of Kenner. Gearheard was also survived by 10 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gearheard was a homemaker, a past member of the Catholic Daughters and active in many church activities.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pauline. Interment followed at St. Joseph Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Perrilloux

Ricky Paul Perrillioux, a native of Hahnville and a resident of St. Rose, died on Friday. He was 42.

Perrillioux is survived by his parents Oliver and Lynn Perrillioux; his sons, Dustin, Scott, and Ricky Perrillioux Jr.; his daughters, Brandi and Katie Perrillioux. He is also survived by his brothers Oliver, Allen, Neal, Bryan, Gary and Corey Perrillioux and Benny Williams; and his sisters Rita Horn, Regina Rodriguez, Jessica St. Pierre, Mary Williams, and Stephanie Williams.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Neal Williams; his brother, Donnie Glynn; and his grandparents Felicia and Oliver Perrillioux.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Monday at St. Hilary Catholic Church in Raceland. Entombment followed at St, Hilary Mausoleum.

Brown

Dana “Chris” Brown, a supervisor of St. Charles Mosquito Control, died June 8 of a heart attack. He was 50 years old.

Brown, a native of Salisbury, Penn., was a resident of Boutte for the past 13 years. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen Blanchard Brown. Step-father of Ed Raymond Veillon Jr. of Paradis and Tammy Veillon Pfeil.

Brown was the son of Ralph and Laura Brown of Salisbury. Brother of Nick Brown and Bonny Mull. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Denis Gray Jr., Ed Raymond Veillon III, Deavon Pfeil.

Services were held on Tuesday, June 11. Burial followed in Salisbury, Penn on Friday June 14.

Autin

Whitney Joseph Autin Sr., former resident of Luling and a resident of Metairie, died on July 2. He was 76.

Autin was the beloved husband of Rita Hebert Autin. He is survived by sons, Whitney J. Autin Jr., and daughter, Cynthia Autin Eliser. He was the brother of Loveless Autin, Lawrence Autin and Luby Robichaux. He is also survived by two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was the son of the late Levis and Melvina Daigle Autin. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Loney, Clifton, Hubert, and Ernest Autin, and his sisters, Eula Sapia and Mildred Autin.

Autin was a World War II Navy Veteran, a member of VFW Post 370 of Luling, and a member Teamster local 270 of New Orleans.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on July 5 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Raceland. Entombment followed at the church cementery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Greater New Orleans.

Candies

Cory Lyn Candies, a resident of Des Allemands, died on Thursday. She was 26.

Candies was the beloved daughter of Spencer and Bessie Cortez Candies. She is survived by her son Kerry and her daughter Abby. She was the sister of Troy Majoria, Kasi Candies and Heather Cortez.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday at St. Gertrude Catholic Church. Entombement followed at St. Gertrude Cemetery.

Dufrene

Hazel J. Dufrene, a native of Killona and a resident of Bayou Gauche, died on July 22. She was 75.

Dufrene is survived by sons, Carel Jr. and Gregory Dufrene; daughters, Angie Perkins and April Dufrene; brothers, Larry Deroche and Lawrence Deroche; sisters, Clara Deubler, Thelma Michot, Hope Guidry, and Grace Shifflett; ten grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carol Dufrene; parents, Waldo and Elvire Madere Deroche; brother, Joseph Deroche; sisters, Aline Hebert and Ethel Zimmerman; and two deceases grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, July 24 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Paradis, where she was a parishioner. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Bayou Gauche. Falgout Funeral Homes of Raceland was in charge of arrangements.

Landeche

Grace Margaret DeRose Landeche died on July 25. She was a resident of Norco for the past 48 years.

Landeche was the beloved wife of Roy Joseph Landeche of Norco and beloved mother of Jacquelyn Landeche Madere of Laplace. Other surviving family members include her sister Phyllis DeRose Richarme of Jefferson, son-in-law Jacques Rene Madere of Laplace, granddaughter Nicole Madere Schulin of Kenner, great grandson Nicholas Paul Schulin, and numerous nieces and nephews. Grace was the daughter of the late William DeRose, Sr. and the late Phyllis Stritzinger DeRose and sister of the late Marie DeRose Beauvais and the late William DeRose, III.

Funeral services were held Monday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Norco. Entombment followed at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum in Destrehan. In lieu of flowers, masses preferred.

Lee

Rose Crochet Lee, a resident of Des Allemands, died on July 22. She was 47.

Lee is survived by her husband Dovice “T-Paul” Lee; sons, Timothy and Justin Lee; stepson, Paul Lee; daughter, Rosa Lee; step daughter, Donna Bergeron; brothers, Edgar P., Melvin A., Roy J. Richard J., and Peter F. Crochet; step brother, David M. Mullins; sisters, Paula Benoit; step sisters, Frani Mullins and Goldie Mullins; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and julie Zeller Crochet; and sister, Annette Mullins.

Religious services were held on Tuesday, July 23 at Des Allemands Mennonite Church. Cremation followed. Falgout Funeral Homes of Raceland was in charge of arrangements.

Matherne

Ruth “Bobbie” Troxler Matherne, a lifelong resident of St. Charles Parish, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday July 17 at the Ormond Nursing and Care Center. She was 74.

Matherne is survived by her husband of 57 years, Sidney J. “Snake” Matherne; four sons, Eldon “Boogie” Matherne, Ronald Matherne, Mitchell Matherne, Jimmy Matherne and one daughter, Sydney Ann Matherne Martin; sister, Hilda Cotton” Troxler Vinterella and a host of nieces and nephews; 16 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvia Faucheux Troxler and Leo Troxler, Sr., and her sister and brother, Beatrice Troxler Jordan and Leo Troxler, Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, July 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norco. Interment followed at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum in Destrehan. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ormond Nursing and Care Center for all the loving care given to their mother and to them.

Robichaux Madeliene “Blackie” Miranda Robichaux, a long time resident of Norco, passed away on Saturday, July 20. She was 75.

Robichaux was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and an employee of Winn Dixie in Ormond. She was the beloved sister of Marie Johnson and the late Sam and Anthony Miranda, 32 nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, July 23 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Norco. Interment followed at Garden of Memories in Metairie. Special thanks to Kenner Regional Medical Center for their loving care and support during her illness.

Walker

Lawrence A. Walker, a lifelong resident of Norco, died on Tuesday. He was 85.

He was the beloved husband for 53 years of Ruth Brock Walker. He is survived by his daughters Sandee Murphy, Becky Roussel, and Laura Walker; his son-in-laws Pat Mrurphy and Ted Roussel; his grandchildren Jeremy, Kane and Janel Walker, and Benjamin, Teddy and Kellie Roussel; and his great grandchildren Claire and Jake Murphy.

He is also survived by his brother Rudolph “Bud” Walker and his sisters Marguerite “Daisy” Haynes and Georgette Chauvin and a host of neices and nephews.

Walker was a World War II Navy Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post #195. He was a retired employee of Kaiser Aluminum.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday at St. Charles Borromeo. Interment followed at St. Charles Borromeo Mausolem in Destrehan. The family extends special appreciation to Metropolitan Home Health and River Region Hospice.

Wood

Ruth LeBlanc Wood of Paradis died on Sunday. She was 69.

Wood was cherished by her sons, Barney Mullins Jr. and Owen Mullins and her daughter Vanessa Folse. She is survived by her sisters, Helen Meneley, Daisy Comardelle, Rosemary LeBlanc, Agnes Galliano and Theresa Evans. She had six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Norbert and Clarice Hebert LeBlanc, and her siblings Van Joseph (V.J.) LeBlanc, Larry LeBlanc, and Clara LeBlanc.

Zeringue

Dave Joseph Zeringue, a resident of Hahnville, died on July 28. He was 58.

Beloved son of Beulah Webre Zeringue and Henry Anthony Zeringue; father of Christopher Zeringue and Quinn Zeringue; brother of Janice Gaspard and Janet Edwards; and uncle of John Melancon and Michael Bathgate.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hahnville. Interment will follow in St. Charles Mausoleum in Luling. Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. until mass time.

Relatives and friends of the family, also employees of the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office are invited to attend. Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home of Marrero is in charge of arrangements.

Beckendorf Muriel Camardelle Beckendorf, age 75, died August 13, 2002. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Joseph Beckendorf, cherished mother of Patricia Rambin, the late William Beckendorf, Terri Tartaglia, Scott Beckendorf, and Clay Beckendorf. Daughter of the late Haidee Marie Duhe Camardelle and Clay Emile Camardelle, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs.. Ethlyn Blancaneaux and Mrs. Rose Pares and one brother, Mr.. Durward Camardelle, eight grandchildren and one great grandson. Born in Westwego, she was a resident of Ama, Louisiana for 42 years.

Bourg

Mercedes Antonia Bourg, native of White Castle and resident of Luling, passed away on Aug. 15 at 3:o8 pm. She was 87 years old.

She is preceded in death by first husband, Louis S. DeBautte, parents Lawrence and Julia Penn Braud, brother Lester Braud and sisters Julia Braud, Genevieve DeBautte, Mary Hymel, Olive Lemoine and Bernice Metz. She is survived by husband Cullen Bourg, son Lou DeBautte; daughter Sylvia Granier; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Holy Family Church on Aug. 19.

Dufrene

Walter W. Dufrene, a resident of Des Allemands, passed away on Aug. 31 at 10:30 a.m. He was 86 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl Matherne Dufrene, sons Curtis and Coral Dufrene, daughter Lottie Dufrene Waire, brother Josh Dufrene, sisters Annie Dufrene, Walterine Comardelle, Winnie McCully, Dessie Burson and Vonnie McBlair, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Pierre and Lucia Authement Dufrene.

Services were held at First Assembly of God Church of Des Allemands on Sept. 2, followed by interment at Mennonite Cemetery in Des Allemands.

Granier

Ervin L. Granier, a native of Wallace and resident of Edgard for 37 years and of Baton Rouge since 1974, passed away on Aug. 20. He was 96 years old.

He is survived by his wife Eunice Waguespack Granier and four children: Ervin Jr. and Jill G. Spence of Baton Rouge, James Granier of New Orleans and Sue G. Gandy of Tampa, Fla., 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emile Granier and Blanch Tregre Granier Abadie, sister Ethel G. Matherne, two half-brothers, Symore Abadie and Armand Abadie, and a daughter, Donnie Ann G. Clapp.

He began his career as a coach and teacher at Julius Freyhan High School in St. Francisville from 1924 until 1934. He was assistant principal of Edgard High School from 1934 until 1944 and became principal of Leon Godchaux High School in Edgard in 1944, where he remained until his retirement in 1972.

Guidry

Donald Ray Guidry, a native of Vermilion Parish and resident of Raceland, passed away on Aug. 17 at 8:55 p.m. He was 70 years old. He is preceded in death by his parents, Cloepha and Eula Duhon Guidry, and sister Barbara Pisani. He is survived by his wife, Stella Matherne Guidry; sons Carl, Randy and Craig Guidry; daughter Sheila Guidry Bryant; sisters Ruth Bourgeois and Edith Jane Duval; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial was held held at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands on Aug 20.

Hebert

Verna Plaisance Hebert, native of Bridge City and resident of Boutte, passed away on Aug. 17 at 2:46 p.m. She was 54 years old. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Virgis L. Plaisance Ledet, and her sister, Ethyl Theriot. She is survived by her husband, William Hebert Sr., son William Hebert Jr., daughter Donna Lynn Hebert, brothers Louis and Eddie Plaisance and sister Loretta Grabert. Services were held on Aug. 19 at First Union Presbyterian Church in Luling, followed by interment at Des Allemands Mennonite Cemetery.

Kenser

Marie Aupied Portier Kenser, age 89 years, passed away at Kenner Regional Hospital on Aug. 16 at 5:19 p.m. Kenser was native of Lafourche Crossing and had been a resident of Norco for 69 years. A homemaker and member of the Sacred Heart Altar Society, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Guy Portier. She is survived by her husband, Mel Kenser. Daughter of the late Thomas and Marle Baye Aupied. Mother of Larry Richard and his wife, Janet, of Norco. Sister of the late Emily Aupied Richard, Rita Aupied Ruth, Ferdnand, Clayton, Thomas Jr., Francis and Ernest Aupied. Kenser is grandmother of Larry Jr., Galen, Amanda, Lacy Richard, all of Norco, and Richelle R. Cazenave of Luling. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Aug. 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 401 Spruce St., Norco, with interment following at St. Joseph Mausoleum, Thibodaux. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staffs of Ormond Nursing Home and Kenner Regional Hospital.

Laiche Daren Michael Laiche, aged 24 years, passed away on Aug. 15 as the result of an accident. A native and lifelong resident of Lutcher, Laiche was a riverboat captain. He is survived by his wife, Misty Reed Laiche, and son Donovan Michael Laiche. Son of Glen Laiche and Carlene Laiche Landry and step-father Daniel Landry. Brother of Mindy Laiche Murry and husband Michael and Tina Laiche LeBlanc and husband Jody. Laiche is also survived by his father and mother-in-law Ricky and Leslie Matthews. Grandmothers Rita Laiche and Emelda Louque. He was preceded in death by grandfathers Murphy J. Louque and Robert W. Laiche Sr., one niece and three nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulina on Aug. 19 with interment following at St. Joseph Mausoleum.

Landeche

Floyd Joseph Landeche of Raceland passed away on Aug. 17 at 8:50 p.m. He was 67 years old. A native of Killona, he was retired from Dresser Industries after 31 years, a U.S. Army veteran and lifetime member of VFW Post 3665 in Raceland, as well as American Legion Unit 349. He was a member of the United Veterans League and an associate broker with Century 21 Action Real Estate.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Jr. and Pauline Lousteau Landeche, and his daughter, Pamela Waguespack. He is survived by his wife, Regina Rodrigue, sons Eddie Landeche and Patrick Waguespack and daughters Cynthia Landeche, Dawn W. Daigle and Syd Waguespack; brothers Roy, Claude, Harold, Alvin, George, Joseph, Roger, Wesley and Henry Landeche III; and sisters Rita Hymel, Marie Louise Bourgeois, Anna Mae Melancon and Lorraine Rodrigue; and four grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Aug. 22 at St. Mary Church in Raceland. In lieu of flowers, masses preferred.
