Dozier

James H. Dozier Sr. passed away on Aug. 31 at St. Charles Hospital at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife, Rosamae Dozier, four sons, Robert and wife Kathy of Simmesport, Dennis Sr. and wife Cynthia of Destrehan, James Jr. and wife Deborah of LaPlace and Toby and wife Linda of Ponchatoula; three daughters, Elaine Babin of Houma, Shirley Dozier of St. Martinville and Tammy Dozier of New Sarpy; brother Pete Dozier of Arizona and sister Annie Kimble of Alabama; 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Vin Dozier and Lottie Jeannsome Dozier, brothers George and Pat, sisters Alma, Wilma, Billie, Kitty and Elizabeth and son-in-law Dean Babin.

He served in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal. He was retired from Local 406 Operating Engineers after 37 years. Funeral services were held on Sept. 2 at H.C. Alexander Funeral Home in Norco.

Dufrene

Leta Joy Dufrene, a native and resident of Des Allemands, passed away on Aug. 27. She was 72 years old.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Maloney and Clementine Matherne Dufrene, and her brothers, Murphy and Alvin J. Dufrene. She is survived by brothers Raymond, Wilmer, Lloyd and Willis Dufrene and her sisters Alma Sevin and Loretta Landry.

Religious services were held on Aug. 29 at First Assembly of God Church in Des Allemands, followed by interment in Matherne Cemetery.

Hebert Leslie E. Hebert, Jr. passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2003 . He was 65 years old. Mr. Hebert was the beloved husband of Corman Hernandez Hebert. Father of Leslie (Trey) E. Hebert, III, Renee Hebert Sampognaro, and Phillip D. Hebert. Grandfather of Claire and Emily Sampognaro. Father-in-law of David Sampognaro. Brother of Dolores Hebert LaPlace, and Cecil L. Hebert. Son of the late Claire Becnel Hebert, and Leslie E. Hebert, Sr. A resident of Luling, LA for the past 39 years. A Funeral Mass was held in the Metairie chapel of LAMANA-PANNO-FALLO, followed by internment in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Hymel

Audrey Mae Adams Hymel passed away on Aug. 16 at Ochsner Foundation Hospital. She was 73 years old.

A native of New Sarpy and a resident of Destrehan, she had formerly resided in Norco for 35 years. Mrs. Hymel was a homemaker, and had worked as a cashier for Norco Pharmacy. She was a parishoner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Joseph Numa Hymel Jr., brother Roland Adams and her parents, Henry and Sophie Mire Adams. She is survived by her son, Paul Joseph Hymel and his wife Bonnie, daughter Shirley Hymel Jones and her husband William, brothers Raymond and Stanley adams and sister Irene Adams Lashbrook, grandchildren Kristie, Dustin and Beau Jones, Paul Hymel Jr., Chrishia Poole, Ashley Hymel, Julia Burkhalter, Amanda and Blake Hymel.

A mass of Christian Burial was held on Aug. 19. The family would like to extend special thanks to Cherly Richert for five and a half years and Norco Daycare for two years of loving care given to Mrs. Hymel.

Keller

Norman J. “Buddy” Keller, a native of Montz and resident of Destrehan, passed away on Aug. 5. He was 87 years old.

The son of the late Jules Jr. and Lena Cambre Keller, he was a World War II veteran and a retired employee of Shell. He is survived by a number of cousins and friends. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Aug. 8 at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Destrehan.

Landry

Gordon “Quinn” Landry Jr. passed away on Aug. 21. He was 56 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Sue V. Landry, son G. Quentin Landry III, daughter Lindsey E. Landry, brother Sidney Landry and sisters Kathleen Landry Prentice, Carol Landry Lockhart and Mary Monica Landry. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Quentin Landry Sr. and Thelma Simoneaux Landry.

Mr. Landry was a former chairman for the Economic Development council, former Executive Committee Chairman and board member of the River Region Chamber of Commerce, past president and board member of the Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow, past president and board member of the St. Charles Business Association, past executive board member of Willowdale Country Club, former treasurer of the Hahnville High School Touchdown Club, former coach in the St. Charles Parish Recreation Department, past member of the St. Charles Community Advisory Panel, participant in the Greater New Orleans Leadership Council and a lifetime member of Sigma Chi.

Services were held on Aug. 26 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Luling, followed by interment at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Des Allemands.

Martel

Hazel Terrebonne Martel, a retired nursing administrator, died of complications from vascular surgery at Doctors Hospital on Aug. 28. She was 81.

Mrs. Martel was preceded in death by her father, Leneas A. Terrebonne, and her mother, Ophelia Fillinich Terrebonne Johnson.

She was a native of Golden Meadow and a resident of New Orleans since 1939 and Luling since 1987. She was a graduate of Hotel Dieu School of Nursing and former Director of Nursing Services at Hotel Dieu and Sarah Mayo hospitals and St. Margaret’s and Maison Hospitaliere nursing homes.

She is survived by her husband, William H. Martel, Sr., brother Harold A. Terrebonne, sons William H. Martel, Jr. and James L. Martel and granddaughters Marie Martel Fahy, Jennifer Martel Albert and Michelle Marie Martel.

Funeral services were held on Sept. 2 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Masses or memorials to the charity of your choice are preferred.

Matherne

Gladys Dufrene Matherne, a native of Des Allemands and resident of Lockport, passed away on Aug. 30. She was 81 years old.

She is survived by her husband, Norman P. Matherne, sons Gerald and Michael Matherne, daughters Leotha Ayo, Diana Douglass, Paulette Adams and Ava Mobley, brother Samuel Dufrene, 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Josephine Frickey Dufrene, brothers Jeffrey, Nelvin, Chester and Calvin Dufrene and sisters Nellie Comardelle and Bernice Dufrene.

Religious services were held on Sept. 2 at Christian Fellowship Church in Larose.

Minnich

Robert Allen “Bob” Minnich passed away on Aug. 16 at Canon Hospice. He was 76 years old.

Mr. Minnich was the beloved husband of Betty N. Minnich; son of the late L.A. Minnich and Ruth H. Minnich; father of Mike Minnich, Sue Madere and Barry Minnich; brother of the late William E. Minnich; grandfather of Laura and Gabe Minnich, Candi and Cody Madere, Tara M. Fuselier, April, Blaire and Minnie Minnich and the late Mindi Madere. Mr. Minnich is also survived by a nephew, Andrew Minnich, and a host of other relatives.

A native of Weston, W.V. and resident of Luling for the past 36 years, Mr. Minnich was a retired employee and maintenance supervisor for Union Carbide, a member of Luling United Methodist Church, Ever Ready Retiree Club and the St. Charles Masonic Lodge #445.

Funeral services were held on Aug. 20 at Luling United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to the Akula Foundation (Canon Hospice) 1221 South Clearview Parkway, Jefferson, La., 70121, or to Luling United Methodist Church, 1001 Paul Maillard Road, Luling, La., 70067.

Berthelot

Noland Joseph “Jelly Bean” Berthelot, a native of Reserve and resident of Luling for 48 years, passed away on Sept. 28 at Canon Hospice.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Ora Laiche Berthelot, daughters Glenda Clause (Landry), Nanette Sissac (Roger), Avis Weaver (Mike), sons Neal Berthelot (Cheryl), Brice Berthelot (Quincee), Gavin Berthelot (Alice) and Darby Berthelot (Valerie), grandchildren Ryan Roussel (Joan), Tammy Williams (Doug), Deanne Sirmon (Scott), Aaron and Landon Clause, Jay and Janell Weaver, Brad, Dale and Trey Berthelot, Dana and Kelly Berthelot and Shelbi Berthelot, brothers and sisters Audrey Becnel, Clemence Bourgeois, Alton Berthelot (Mae), sister Marlene Berthelot and Patsy Melancon (Maxwell). He is preceded in death by his parents, Noland T. and Nella S. Berthelot, and his brother Burton Berthelot.

Mr. Berthelot was a retired 31-year employee of Monsanto and a World War II veteran.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Luling on Oct. 1. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society St. Charles Parish Relay For Life, PO Box 1012, Luling, La, 70070.

Caire

Sidney J. Caire passed away on Sept. 24. A native and lifelong resident of Edgard, Mr. Caire was a noted businessman and sugar planter, a veteran of the US Army, having served in World War II, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Caire was an active eucharistic minister and a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by is wife, Marie Therese Caire, sister Sybil Pedeaux and parents Sidney J. Caire Sr. and Annette Jones Caire. He is survived by his children, Mary Caire Birmingham and John Andrew Caire and wife Sandra, brothers and sisters G. Walton Caire, Warren Caire, E.J. Caire II, Ella Abadie, Vivian Berthelot, Sophie Grenier, Jerry Ferrell, Sister Adele Caire, RSCJ, Sister Laura Ann Caire, RSCJ and Sister Margaret Caire, RSCJ, grandchildren Kimberly Birmingham Weber and husband Joseph, Lt. JG Christine Caire, USN, Stephanie Caire, Michael Caire, Ashley and Michelle Dempster and great grandchildren Kerry and Alex Weber.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Sept. 27 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Edgard.

Caro

Charles Anthony Caro, a native of Paradis and resident of Metairie, passed away on Sept. 7. He was 83 years old.

He was a retired meter foreman, employee of Entergy Corporation after 37 years of service. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy and flew torpedo bombers in WWII and the Korean War. He was a devoted family man and was always willing to help family and friends. He enjoyed travel and music and played several musical instruments.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Althea Bouchon Caro; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard J. Caro, M.D. and Linda Constancy Caro of Baton Rouge; and three daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn Caro Thomas and Rick Thomas of Destrehan, June Caro Steinworth, M.D. and M. Walter Steinworth of Salt Lake City, Utah and Donna Caro Henne and Eugene Henne, Jr. of Destrehan. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Michelle Caro Dow, Richard J. Caro, Jr. and spouse Gina Domma Caro, Tiffany Caro Burns, M.D. and spouse Nathan Burns, Bradley Caro, Terence Ryan, Jr., Melissa Ryan, Chelsey Thomas, Erica, Kristen and Blake Steinworth, Jonathan, Amanda and Tyler Henne, and five great-grandchildren: Ashley, Alexa and Veronica Dow and Emily and Lauren Caro; and his sister, Lorna Caro Knobloch. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Caro and Anita Grob Caro, brothers Louis and Arthur Caro, and sisters Hilda Caro Clerc and Eunice Caro Bordelon.

Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp, 1600 North Causeway Boulevard at 23rd St., Metairie, followed by a funeral Mass in the chapel.

Dempster

Benjamin J. Dempster, a native of Des Allemands and resident of Thibodaux, passed away on Sept. 21. He was 17 years old.

He is survived by his parents, Kane Dempster Sr. and Dawn C. Dempster, stepmother Vickie Dempster, brother Kane Dempster Jr. and stepbrother Curtis Ledet Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Sept. 26 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands.

Gaubert

Edward A. Gaubert, a native and resident of Luling, passed away on Sept. 23. He was 86 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Leona R. Gaubert, sons Kenneth and Carl Gaubert, brothers Richard and Carroll Gaubert, sisters Vivian, Mabel and Alma Gaubert and Enid Holibaugh, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Veronica Naquin Gaubert, daughter Joan Gaubert, brothers Wallace, S.J., Ernest and Raymond Gaubert and sisters Elise Falgout and Earline and Mildred Gaubert.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Sept. 25 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Luling.

Gonzales

Anaise R. Gonzales, a native of Ama and resident of Hahnville, passed away on Sept. 13. She was 96 years old.

The beloved wife of the late John R. Gonzales, mother of Randolph J. Gonzales, Marjorie G. Vicnair and the late Arnold Gonzales, mother-in-law of Lorrraine F. Gonzales, Marcella O. Gonzales and the late Flavain J. Vicnair, daughter of the late Louis Robert and Odalie Hymel Robert, sister of Lawrence Robert, Lucien Robert and the late Althea Robert, Luke Robert and Vivian R. Faucheux, Norbert, Herbert and Mabel Robert. She was the grandmother of 13 and preceded by one grandchild, Allison G. Respress. She is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was held on Sept. 15 at Holy Rosary Church in Hahnville.

Perkins

Ramona Maxion Perkins, a resident of Destrehan and native of New Orleans, passed away on Sept. 8. She was 74 years old.

Mrs. Perkins was a retired teacher with the Jefferson Parish School System. She had earned a Masters Degree plus 30 hours, was a member of American Legion Post #195 Auxiliary, retired teachers association and Phi Kappa Phi. She was the wife of 56 years to her beloved husband Clayton J. Perkins, daughter of the late Theodore and Leslie Williams Maxion, mother of Rhonda Perkins, Clara Perkins Nunez and husband Charles J. Nunez Sr., sister of Marcia Thibodaux, Silvia Johnson and the late Ronald, Gary and Glen Maxion, grandmother of Holly Leigh Pitts, Charles J. Nunez, Jr.; Cristin J. Nunez and Caitlin M. Nunez.

A funeral Mass was held on Sept. 10 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan.

Robinson

Charles Robinson, Jr., a retired Air Force master sergeant and teacher, died on Sept. 27 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 77. Mr. Robinson was born in Westwego and lived in St. Rose for the past 27 years. He was a graduate of John McDonogh High School and attended the Air Force Academy, Southern University at Baton Rouge and San Bernardino Valley College. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was awarded a Bronze Star. He taught at and Sidney Collier Vo-Tech School and Hahnville High School. He was an honorary past master of Prince Hall Masons and was a member of Berry Lodge #2, St. Charles Parish Retired Teachers Association, and Coast to Coast RV Club. Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Cannon Robinson; four sons, Charles Robinson III of Petaluma, Calif., Calvin Robinson of San Mateo, Calif., Cornelius Robinson of San Diego and Craig Robinson of Suisun, Calif.; a daughter, Sara Robinson Harrison of Menlo Park, Calif.; three foster sons, Goldstein Wade, Eugene Phillips and Rahman Na'im; a brother, Henderson Wilson of Marrero; two sisters, Mary Vaughn of Lancaster, Calif., and Julia Culver of Oakland, Calif.; . best friend, George Ed Dixon of Seattle, WA; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held on Oct. 4 at 9 a.m. at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave. Burial was private.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Cannon Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 174 St. Rose, LA preferred.

Thibodeaux

Lena Legear Thibodeaux, a native of Sunset and resident of St. Charles Parish for 30 years, passed away on Sept. 10. She was 93 years old.

She is survived by her sons Paul Thibodeaux, Larry Thibodeaux and Joey Thibodeaux, daughter Helen Tamburello, brother Jullian Legear, 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was held on Sept. 12 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan.

Zeringue

Nelson T. Zeringue Sr., age 76, passed away on Sept. 9. He was the beloved husband of Helen Schexnaydre for over 51 years, father of Nelson Zeringue Jr., Barry Zeringue, Gary Zeringue, Irene Love, Pamela Foret, Cynthia Carols and the late Randy M. Zeringue. He is also survived by his brother, Louis Lawrence “White” Zeringue, sister Effie Waguespack, and Emma Mae Schexnaydre, 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Hilda Zeringue, brother Arthur, Harold and Maurice Joseph, and sister Rose Agnes Girior.

A native of Taft and resident of Ama, he was a retired machinist for American Cyanamid and a member of OCAW Local 4-447. He was a US Army World War II veteran. A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Sept. 12 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Masses are preferred.
