Guidry
Dulce Matthews Guidry, a native and resident of Norco, Passed away on Oct. 7, 2002. She was 70 years old.
Mrs. Guidry was active in many church, civic and community organizations, including the United Way, Girl Scouts of America and Norco Women’s Club. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, James Burlin Guidry, her children Michael M. Guidry and his wife Dawn, Karen G. Deroche and husband Gary, Dianne G. Turner and husband Bill, Patricia G. Magee and husband Sam and Joan G. St. Pierre and husband Adrian, and her grandchildren, Ret Turner, Lonna Bagwell, Timothy Deroche, Andrew and Ryan Magee, Michael, Amanda and Mallory Guidry. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hiram A. Matthews and Mercedes Tregre Matthews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Oct. 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norco followed by interment at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum in Destrehan.

Hickman
Anthony “Tony” Albert Hickman, resident of Luling and native of Hattiesburg, Miss., Passed away on Oct. 1, 2002. He was 53 years old.
He is survived by his wife, the Rev. Regina Brooks Hickman, father Doug Hickman and stepmother Willa Hickman, son Brooks Hickman, daughters Amanda Portera and Sarah Simoneaux, brother Ted Hickman, sister Rita Dykes, grandchildren Misty, Brandon, Salvadore and Emma Mae Portera and great-granddaughter Lexye Marie Whittington. He is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Lott Hickman.
Services were held at Golden Meadow Methodist Church on Oct. 7.

Landry
Thelma Simoneaux Landry, resident of Des Allemands, Passed away on Oct. 5, 2002 at 10:19 pm. She was 83 years old.
Landry is survived by her sons, Gordon Quentin Landry Jr. and Sidney Joseph Landry; her daughters, Kathleen Landry Prentice, Carol Landry Lockhart and Mary Monica Landry Rubin; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Quentin Landry, Sr., parents Sidney Simoneaux Sr. and Lydia Bergeron Simoneaux; brothers Sidney J. Simoneaux Jr. and Leo C. Simoneaux and sisters Irma S. Vial and Doris S. DeJean.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Oct. 8 at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Des Allemands.

McWilliams
Helen McWilliams Passed away on Oct. 10, 2002 at the age of 73. She is survived by her husband, Joe McWilliams, daughter Jenean Douglas, sons Rennis and Carlos Douglas, stepchildren Joe McWilliams II, Scott McWilliams and Nicole Ladner, sister Loretta Gaspard, brother Jack Hinton, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was be held on Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church, Highway 90, Des Allemands, with Pastor Charles G. Clary.

Simon
Pelham Benoit Simon, a native of Vacherie and resident of Grammercy, Passed away on Oct. 24, 2002 at 12:10 a.m. He was 74 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Davidson Simon, his brothers Allen, Floyd and Neil Simon, stepchildren Lillie Jantz, Nora Adams, Sallie Beckes, Jonothan and Alvin “Tommy” Noris, seven step grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Prudent and Olphida Simon, brothers Prudent Jr., Daniel, Vincent and Lawrence Simon, sisters Vivian Simon, Eunice Abadie, Rose Villnerve and Pearl Attenhoffer.
Services were hled on Oct. 26 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Union. The family wishes to thank Dr. Halina and Dr. Gboloo, nurses and personnel of Ascension Hosptial, St. James Homecare, JoAnn Talley, Jessica Mayeux, Vickey hunter and Bobbie Hicks.

Bumgarner
Billie W. Bumgarner, a retired schoolteacher in St. Charles Parish, died on Nov. 28, 2002 at East Jefferson General Hospital.
Mrs. Bumgarner was a respected teacher in St. Charles Parish and was involved in the formation of the Gifted and Talented Program. After retirement, she continued to work in the ADAPT and GED programs. She was also an active member of the River Parishes Historical Society, on the Board of Destrehan Plantation, and on the St. Charles Parish Library Board.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, Oscar Bumgarner, and her parents, William and Flora Wegener. She is survived by three children, Sue Powell, Darwynn Bumgarner, and Kay Pastor. She is also survived by sons-in-law, Jim Powell and Rodney Pastor, six grandchildren, Damon, Jenifer, James, Lori, Steven, and Erin, and her great friend, Lucie Vegas.
Services were held Dec. 2, 2002 at First Baptist Church in Luling with burial in Garden of Memories.

Candies
Doris St. Amant Candies, a native and resident of Des Allemands, Passed away on Nov. 27, 2002. She was 83 years old.
She is survived by her sons, James “Shorty” Candies Jr. and Marshall Candies, sister Laura McHale, eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, James “Jimmy” Candies Sr., parents Camille and Mary Louise Trauth St. Amant, daughter Elnora Candies Cornwell, brothers Theophile, John, Eldon, Willie, Irvin and Lawrence St. Amant and sisters Ernestine St. Amant Staiger and Theo May Matherne.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Nov. 29 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church.

Chappell
Donald “T.C” Wayne Chappell, a resident of Luling, Passed away on Nov. 20, 2002. He is survived by his mother, Naomi Louise Cook Chappell, sons Brian Wayne Chappell Sr. and Steven Todd Chappell, daughters Stephanie Leigh Chappell Cuny and Courtney Rene Chappell, brother Rex Chappell, grandchildren Brian Wayne Chappell Jr., Brittany Elizabeth Chappell, Callie Leigh Chappell, Alexis Jewells Chappell, Amber Paige Chappell, Zachary Graham Cuny, Jacob Griffin Cuny, Benjamin Edward Louis Cuny, Chad Jesse Dufrene and Josey Katelynn Dufrene, niece Amy Pardon and great-niece Donna Paige Watts. He is preceded in death by his father, Jewel “Bull” E. Chappell.
The funeral service was held on Nov. 23 at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home.

Clark
Earl Joseph “Don King” Clark, a retired foreman with St. Charles Grain Elevator, died on Nov. 18 of cancer at St. Charles Hospital in Luling. He was 65.
A graduate of Carver High School in Hahnville, he is survived by his wife, Joyce Stewart Clark, sons Bendell Clark Sr. and Radell Clark, daughter Joycelyn C. Ballard, mother Lista Benarby Guilfore, brother Ernest Patterson Sr., sisters Doris Williams and Beverly Byrd, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A funeral service was held on Nov. 23 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Ama.

Frickey
Eugene John Frickey of Des Allemands Passed away on Nov. 11, 2002. He was 76 years old.
A retired superintendent with Chevron with 30 years of service, he is survived by his wife, Agnes Dufresne Frickey, sons Terry and Bruce Frickey, daughter Sheryl Mann, brother E.E. Frickey, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred John Frickey and Pauline Dufrene Frickey, brother R.J. Frickey and sister Fannie Keller.
Religious services were held on Nov. 14 at First Assembly of God Church in Des Allemands, followed by interment at Sunset Cemetery in Bayou Gauche.

Gaudet
Phillip “Bearcat” Gaudet III, a native and resident of Luling, Passed away on Nov. 3, 2002. He was 52 years old.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, he is survived by his former wife Joan Breaux Gaudet, stepmother Della Somme Gaudet, son Jesse Gaudet, daughters Becky Gaudet Vedros, nieces Laura LeSage Guidry and Jamie LeSage, grandson Colin Vedros, sister Carol LeSage and stepsisters Michele Osburn, Henriette Somme and Ava Somme. He is preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Gaudet Jr. and Loretta Sevin Gaudet.
Religious services were held on Nov. 5 at Falgout Funeral Homes in Raceland followed by interment at St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux.

Melancon
Ivy Joseph Melancon, a native of Raceland and resident of Marrero for 52 years, Passed away on Nov. 9, 2002 at 4 p.m. He was 87 years old.
Ivy Melancon retired from Avondale Shipyards on April 1, 1977. He is survived by his wife, Velma Hebert Melancon, brother Loveless “L.J.” Melancon, and sisters Corrine Sapia and Lena Pierce. He is preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Hedwige Theriot Melancon, brothers Willie, Ronald and Wilmer Melancon and sisters Irene Martin and Elma Bonvillain.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Nov. 12 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Raceland. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ghanableh and the staff of West Jefferson Hospital.

Morales
Lydia Fabre Morales, native of Edgard and resident of Destrehan, Passed away on Nov. 26, 2002. She was 82 years old.
She is survived by her children, Kathy Vicknair and Glenn C. Morales, sister Vernon Fabre S.r, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husband Joaquin E. Crespo of her first marriage and Clifton J. Morales of her second marriage, parents Emile Fabre, Sr. and Cecile Lanoux Fabre, brother Vernon Fabre Sr., sisters Clara Ball, Leona Guidry and Emile Fabre and grandchild Glenn C. Morales Jr.
A funeral mass was held on Nov. 29 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

Reaves
Wilbon W. “Bill” Reaves Jr., one of the pioneers in the offshore oil industry, died of cancer on Nov. 6, 2002 at his home in Luling after a two-year illness. He was 78 years old.
A native of Eufala, Alabama, Mr. Reaves graduated from Auburn University with a civil engineering degree in 1948. He was then employed by Humble Oil Co. which later became Exxon Corporation where he worked until his retirement. He was first assigned to the Franklin area and then to the New Orleans office. He worked out of the Grand Isle headquarters of Exxon from 1954 to 1957 and then moved to St. Charles Parish where he worked out of the Paradis office.
During his career with Exxon, Mr. Reaves was involved in the construction of 39 major offshore oil platforms as well as gas plants, pipelines and numerous other projects. At his retirement, a plaque given him noted that “his expertise is widely recognized throughout Exxon and the offshore construction industry.”
Mr. Reaves served on the St. Charles Parish Planning and Zoning Board for eight years and was active with the St. Charles Parish Council on Aging. He and his wife observed their 60th wedding anniversary in July.
He is survived by his wife, the former Ruby Hatfield; one son, William Thomas; one daughter, Catherine Reaves Moore; two sisters, Barbara R. Morrison and Sara Vaughn; a grandson, Stacey McKenzie Moore and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilborn Reaves Sr. and Annie Wade Wise Reaves.
Services were held at First Union Presbyterian Church in Luling Friday with interment in Fairview Cemetery in Eufala. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to given to the Wilbon Reaves Jr. Memorial at First Union Presbyterian Church.
Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home in Marrero was in charge of arrangements.
