Dufrene

Marguerite Brandt Dufrene, a native of Alliance and resident of Des Allemands, passed away on Feb. 13. She was 99 years old.

She is survived by her son, Brandt J. Dufrene, daughter Gwen Morel, sister Emma Lou Elston, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alex N. and Ethel Conrad Brandt, brothers Hewitt “Bud” and Saxon R. Brandt, and sisters Ruby Reynolds, Doris Cognevich, Gladys Becnel and Ida Trieul.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Feb. 16 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church.

Dufrene

Whitney J. Dufrene, a native and resident of Des Allemands, passed away on Feb. 20. He was 90 years old.

He is survived by his son, Donald Dufrene, daughters Jackie Prejean, Jeanette Mouney, Mary Sirgo, Loretta Matherne and Betty Foret, brothers Ernest Dufrene and Lester Dufrene, sisters Verly Reeves and Myrtle Hoffman, 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife by first marriage Ethel Bernard Dufrene, wife by second marriage Alphonsine Trauth Dufrene, wife by third marriage Josephine Boudreaux Dufrene, parents Tousaint and Cecile Parks Dufrene, brothers Norris and Leonce Dufrene and sisters Glaze Chauven and Mae Toups.

Mr. Dufrene was retired from the Texaco plant in Paradis with 32 years od service.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Feb. 21 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands.

Kelly

Mary Helen Kelly, a native of Mississippi and resident of Luling, passed away on Feb. 19 after a long battle with Leukemia. She was 73 years old.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Kenny, daughters Judy Burns and Janice Nicholas, brothers Charles, Lex and Billy Ray Ervin, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Dora Ervin, son Jimmy Kelly and brothers Medford and Larry Ervin.

Plaisance

Shirley Rogers Plaisance, a native of Larose and resident of Cut Off, passed away on Feb. 14. She was 76 years old.

She is survived by her husband, David P. Plaisance, son Charles P. Plaisance, daughter Paula P. Guidry, brother Nolan Rogers, sisters Rose R. Cheramie, Ruth R. Eymard, Mabel R. Loflin and Geraldine R. Mayeur, and four grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edar and Lydia L. Rogers, son Gary Gisclair Sr., brothers Cleveland Rogers and Early Rogers, and sister Carrie R. Cheramie.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Feb. 16 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cut Off.

Price

Linda Landry Price, a native of Luling and resident of Houma, passed away on Feb. 21. She was 44 years old.

She is survived by her parents, Wallace Joe Landry Sr. and Audrey Chatagnier, son Ronnie Price, daughters Nancy Landry, Carissa Landry and Jamie Price, brothers Mack Landry and Wallace Joe Landry Jr., and sister Brenda L. Grimes and her husband Glenn.

Ms. Price was a U.S. Army veteran. Services were held on Feb. 25 at Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma.

Stayton

David Neal Stayton, a native of Palestine, Ark. and former resident of Destrehan and Kenner, passed away on Feb. 16 in Houston. He was 82 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Braud Stayton, son Bill Rieniets, daughters Marilyn Rieniets and Jeanne Stayton, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Feb. 19 in Kenner, followed by burial at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Destrehan.

Stone

John Paul Stone, a native and resident of Luling, passed away on Feb. 14. He was 21 years old.

Mr. Stone is survived by his parents, Fred J. Stone and Susan I. Stone, stepfather William R. Vernor, grandparents Raymond and Anna Pickett and Paul J. Stone, great-grandmother Sarah Clewis and sisters Barbie and Jamie Stone.

Religious services were held on Feb. 19 at Mt. Airy Cemetery in Boutte.

Taylor

Charles Michael “Mickey” Taylor of Luling passed away on Feb. 13 at St. Charles Hospital. He was 54 years old.

Born in Bastrop on Aug. 11, 1949, he is survived by his wife, Vickie Taylor, son Brennon Taylor, daughter Tiffanie Taylor, moter and step-father Mary Ruth and Prentis Allred, father and mother-in-law Ernest and Orpha McIntyre and brother Glen “Dick” Taylor. He is preceded in death by his father, Lemuel John “L.J.” Taylor.

Funeral services were held on Feb. 15 at Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Oak Grove. Pallbearers were Paul Barothy, Eddie Graebert, Dustin Jones, Harold Rigdon, Billy Sanders and Regan Wilkerson. Honorary pallbearers were Mark and Will Gorum.

DeJean

Heloise “Lou” Folse DeJean, a native of Raceland and resident of Harvey, passed away on March 8. She was 90 years old.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy Holmes, brother Johnny Folse, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raoul J. DeJean, parents Nelson and Clemence Z. Folse, brothers V.J., A.P. and Dennis Folse and sisters Rita Royster and Lena Foret.

A memorial service was held on March 11, followed by burial at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Des Allemands.

Dupuy

Patrick Charles Dupuy, a native and resident of Lutcher, passed away on March 16. Son of the late Russell J. Dupuy, he is survived by his mother, Zula Singletary Dupuy of Lutcher, brothers James Russell and Timothy Gene Dupuy both of Birmingham, Ala., sisters Gwendolyn D. Rizzuto of Grand Point, Lynnette D. Hidalgo and Patricia Clair Rizzuto of Paulina and Mary Kathleen Chambless of St. Amant, 11 nieces and nephews and six great-nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on March 18 at St. Joseph Church Mausoleum in Lutcher.

Hoffman

Harry Davis Hoffman, a native of Donaldsonville and resident of Norco, passed away on March 10. He was 90 years old.

Mr. Hoffman was husband of the late Alma Braud Hoffman, son of the late Harry A. and Elmire Davis Hoffman, father and father-in-law of James and Mary Hoffman, grandfather of Lisa A. and Alan Clement and great-grandfather of Brittney, Brooke and Brandie Clement, brother of Anna Mae Coriell, Lillian Pilla, Bertha Savoia and the late Earl Hoffman.

He was the office manager for National Gypsum Co. with 42 years of service and a founder and loyal member of the Marsh Duck Club for over 30 years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests enrollment of masses.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on March 15 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Hearth Catholic Church in Norco, followed by interment at Ascension Mausoleum in Donaldsonville.

Johnson

Henry Lee Johnson, a native of Dry Prong and resident of Luling, passed away on March 27. He was 77 years old.

Beloved husband of Lois Rita Toups Johnson for 54 years, devoted father of Gregory T. of Metairie, Cassie A. Kaplan of Luling, Rick M. of Thibodaux, Kerry C. Hotard of Luling, Shannon B. of Morgan City, Tracy S. of Covington and the late Wendell C. Johnson. Father-in-law of Michael Kaplan, Lonie Hotard, Alison P. Johnson, Stephanie H. Johnson and Pamela G. Johnson. Son of the late Alphonso A. Johnson and Sarah D. Johnson. Brother of Winard Johnson of Senora, Ga., Earline J. Jones of Pineville, Florine J. Swinson of Houston, and the late Julius T. Herman and Pearl Lee Fralcik; brother-in-law of Louise S. Jonson of Texarkana, Ark., William W. Jones of Pineville, Robert Swinson of Houston, Mrie Johnson of Vidor, Texas, Randall J. and Lois Toups of Waco, Texas and Betty Toups of New Martinsville, W.V. Grandfather of Brad, Sondra, Kelsey, Eden, Jonah and Christin Johnson, Joshua, Heather and Bailee Kaplan, Lance, Chad and Sarah Hotard; step-grandfather of Scott and Clint Hotard. Also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Johnson was retired from the Monsanto Chemical Co. after 33 years of service. Former owner of Little Schoolhouse Supplies, a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, a member of the American Legion Post 0401 and the First Baptist Church of Luling.

Services were held at First Baptist Church on Paul Maillard Road in Luling on March 30. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Greenwalt Alzheimer’s Center, 1926 18th St., Kenner.

Oubre

Gilmer “Chip” Joseph Oubre Jr., a native of New Orleans and resident of Luling, passed away on March 9. He was 57 years old.

A retired electrician for Union Carbide, Mr. Oubre was a parishoner at Holy Family Catholic Church in Luling and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Joy Portier Oubre, father Gilmer Oubre St., son Jason Oubre, brother Ward Oubre and sisters Anna Mixon and Sheila Cliebert. He is preceded in death by his son, Joseph Oubre, and mother Anna Mae Gueret Oubre.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on March 11 at Holy Family Catholic Church, followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux.

Bergeron

Virgie Marie Cologne Bergeron, a native of Des Allemands and resident of Houma, passed away on April 1. She was 74 years old.

She is survived by her daughters, Myra Dupont and her husband Jerome, Mara Oubre and her husband Richard and Pamela Ponville and her husband Michael, brother Clifton Cologne and his wife Genevieve, sister Shirley Bergeron and her husband Kerner, brother-in-law Edison Plaisance, grandchildren Jason Dupont and wife Annette, Andrea Dupont, Therell Oubre, Ryan Oubre, Jessica Aysen and husband Nick, Joshua Ponville and Jackie Ponville. She was survived, at the time of death, by her sister Irma Plaisance, who passed away herself the next day.

She is preceded in death by husband Norman Anthony Bergeron and parents Ernest Anthony Cologne and Lavinia Loupe Cologne.

She was a parishoner at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on April 3 at Chauvin Funeral Home, followed by burial at St. Francis de Sales #2 Cemetery.

Breaux

Noland Paul “Doogie” Breaux Jr., a native and resident of Bayou Gauche, passed away on April 30. He was 34 years old.

Mr. Breaux is survived by his parents, Noland P. Breaux Sr. and Anna Mae Bourgeois Breaux, his step-grandfather Jack Flippo, brother Derrell Paul Breaux, sister Darnell Breaux Hebert, four nephews and one niece. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Noah Anthony Breaux, Georgia Matherne Flippo and Noah Adam and Gertrude Plaisance Bourgeois. Mr. Breaux was a member of the Arc of St. Charles and the Special Olympics.

Services were held on May 4 at Community Assembly of God Church in Bayou Gauche, followed by burial at Sunset Cemetery.

Brunner Darnell Dawn Ervin Brunner, native of Collins Miss. and former resident of Luling, passed away on April 12. She was 37 years old. She is survived by her husband, Lee Brunner, sons Kasey, Chase and Kaleb Brunner, brother Shane Ervin, sister Ann Hudson, three nephews, six nieces and one great nephew. A memorial service was held at Billy King-Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins on April 14.

Chauvin

Maxie Martin Chauvin, a native of Marrero and resident of Des Allemands, passed away on April 16. She was 82 years old.

She is survived by her sons, Dwighty and Vance Frickey, stepsons Calvin, Sylvester, Allen and Timmy Chauvin, daughters Jenelle Harrell, Paula Bernard, Elain Bartell, Marcella Bartell and Brenda Ardoin, stepdaughters Irene Owens and Ella Mae Andras, brothers Loveless Jr., Ray, Harry and Thomas Martin, sisters Virginia Candies, Marion Dufrene and Barbra Shortless, 20 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by first husband Herbert Guidry, second husband Lerrie Frickey and third husband Joseph Chauvin, parents Loveless J. and Mathilda Babin Martin and brother Malcolm Martin.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on April 20 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands.

Doucet

Merston Joseph Doucet, Sr., a native of Iota and resident of Luling, passed away on April 11. He was 84 years old. A 44-year resident of the parish, Mr. Doucet was a U.S. Army veteran and a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He is survived by his wife, Angela Bourgeois Doucet, children M.J. Doucet Jr. and Effie D. Benoit, sisters Annie Mae D. Taylor and Minnie D. Young, and grandchildren Fr. Charles Benoit O.S.B., Kristy Doucet Roach, Regina Benoit McMillan and Joey Doucet.

Visitation will be held on April 15 from 8:30 a.m. through 11:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Luling, followed by services at 11:30 a.m.

Dufrene

Clarise “Judge” Rerre Dufrene, a native of Gheens and resident of Thibodaux, passed away on April 23. He was 85 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Rita Guidry Dufrene, daughters Janice Ramagos, Iris Plaisance, Karen Cortez and Catherine Faucheux, brothers Oliver and Tildon Dufrene, sister Gertrude LeBlanc, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Marcelite Pontiff Dufrene, brothers Lawrence and Clarence Dufrene and sisters Marguerite Lucia Bodden, Bernice Hogan and Bertha Breaux.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on April 26 at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Destrehan.

Dufrene

Naise Naquin Dufrene, a native and resident of Des Allemands, passed away on April 9. She was 80 years old.

She is survived by her sons, Carl Joseph Dufrene, Curtis Joseph Dufrene and Clifford John Dufrene, daughters Juanita Tonubbee, Lona Loupe and Irma Breaux, brothers Whitney, Nollie and Wilbert “Brud” Naqin, sisters Earline Schaubhut, Rita Schaubhut and Joyce McBroom, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Norman Joseph Dufrene, parents Caliste and Agglia Dufrene Naqin, son Rodney Joseph Dufrene, brothers Randolph and Norman Naquin, sister Inez Naqin and grandchild Shannon Dufrene.

Religious services were held on April 12 at Des Allemands Baptist Church, followed by burial at the Des Allemands Mennonite Cemetery.
