Chris Joseph Lightell Jr., of Destrehan, died on Sept. 22. He was 20 years old.

He is survived by his parents, Chris and Kathy Lightell Sr., sister Destiny Beard of Destrehan and future brother-in-law John Gilbeaux Jr. of St. Rose; aunts Bobbie Chaisson and Kathleen Rome of Destrehan and Cindy Lightell of Kenner, uncles Keith Lightell,A.J. Lightell, Bruce Lightell and Tate Lightell of Kenner, Walter Chaisson of Bayou Gauche, and Ed Skena, Ivan Vicknair and Brent Rome of Destrehan; cousins Jessica Chaisson, Cody Beard, Taylor Beard and Brent Rome of Destrehan, grandparents Katie Beard and Frank Brisset of Destrehan, great-grandmother Gracie Beard of Destrehan, and close companion and friend Jessica Vicknair.

He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Andrew Lightell Sr., and Bobby Earl Beard, great-grandfather Marcus Beard and grandmother Joy Lightell.

Visitation services will be held on Sept. 25 at H.C. Alexander Funeral Home in Norco from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. and on Sept. 26 from 8 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will held held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Norco at 10 a.m., followed by entombment in Jefferson Memorial Gardens in St. Rose.

Louque

Perry F. Louque Jr., a retiree of Kaiser, died at the age of 66 on Sept. 7 at his residence in Grand Point.

Beloved husband of 46 years to Lonna Joy Zeringue Louque, he was the father of daughters and sons-inl-aw Bonnie Louque Poché and Steven Poché, Della Donaldson Louque, Dawn Louque Mitchell and Lionel Mitchell; and sons and daughters-in-law Jody Louque and Kathy Madere Louque, Scott Louque and Della Donaldson Louque; brother of Rodney and Jeannie Louque of Metairie, Randy and Brenda Louque of Grand Point; grandfather of Laci and Craig Brignac and Shea Ivey, Jennie and Matt Louque, Cory, Alexis and Avarie Louque, Dylan and Colin Mitchell; step-grandfather of Mason Poché; and great-grandfather of Zachary Brignac, Kadynn Rousell and Whitney Banks. He is preceded in death by his father, Perry F. Louque Sr., and mother Martha Oubre Loque.

Perry enjoyed his lifelong hobbies of hunting, fishing and bowling. He was a medalist in the Sr. Olympics and will be remembered for his love of dancing.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Sept. 9 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulina.

Lyons

Dennie McCaskill Lyons died on Sept. 11 at East Jefferson Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife Johnette Lyons, son Landon Lyons, daughters Michelle Lyons, Lucinda Johnson and Mandy Lyons, brothers Johnny and Adrian Lyons and sister Kathryn Blanten. He is preceded in death by daughter Leila Lyons.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Sept. 15 at St. Hubert Catholic Church in Garyville, followed by burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulina.

Naquin
Harold S. Naquin Sr. of Destrehan died on Sept. 9. He was 87 years old.

He was husband of the late Gertrude Agnes “Cotton” Naquin for 62 years and a member of the Knights of Columbus Red Church Council 3634. He is survived by his sons, H.S. “Butch” Naquin Sr. of Breaux Bridge and Adria e. “Chippy” Naquin of Norco, sister Rose Lamothe of Plaquemine, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Sept. 13 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer Masses said or memorials be made to Canon Hospice.

Simpson

James Allen Simpson, a native of Luling and resident of Jacksonville, Fla., died on Sept. 16.

Simpson was a graduate of Hahnville High School and attended Northeastern University in Monroe. He spent the last 31 years in Jacksonville, where he was employed as a registered pharmacist.

He is survived by his father, Elmer A. Simpson of Luling, sister Jo Ann Clement, niece Tracie Clement, nephew Matthew Jeramie Clement and great-niece Maggie Clement, all of Thibodaux. He is preceded in death by his mother, Louise Simpson.

Burial was held at St. Charles Cemetery.

Stanley

Erin Gilbride Stanley, a native of Walker and resident of Des Allemands, passed away on Sept. 15. She was 29 years old.

She is survived by her husband, Ritchie Stanley, mother Sharon Brister and stepfather John, father Robert Gilbride and stepmother Peggy, daughters Ellen and Sara, brothers Robert John Gilbride and Sean Griffiths, and sister Carrie Laboyteaux.

Religious services were held on Sept. 18 at First Assembly of God Church in Des Allemands, followed by burial at Sunset Cemetery in Bayou Gauche.

Vial

Dr. David “Jerry” Vial, longtime coroner of St. Charles Parish, died of lymphoma on Sept. 8. He was 76 years old.

A native of Hahnville and resident of Luling, Vial became coroner on June 7, 1967 and has served in that position ever since. He was a member of the St. Charles Masonic Lodge #445, and the Consistory and Jerusalem Temple. He was also an early board member and doctor at St. Charles Parish Hospital.

He is survived by his first wife, Beverly Barre Vial, sons David J., Stephen O., J. Kenneth, D. Frederick and L. Andre Vial, daughters M. Monica Vial Benson, Lisa V. Brosser, Beverly V. Chester and Francesca, Alicia and Christina Vial, his brother Leon C. Vial III, 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his second wife, Alice Grizzaffi Vial, parents Leon C. Vial Jr. and Lucile Lowe Vial, and son Leon P. Vial.

Religious Services were held on Sept. 11 at First Union Presbyterian Church in Luling, followed by burial at St. Charles Cemetery.

Braud

Pearl Brady Troxler Braud, age 96 years, died on Oct. 5. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Herbert E. “Sal” Troxler and Bagley J. Braud, her parents, Charles and Leila Brady, brothers Clifton, Joseph and Oscar Brady and sisters Agnes Hotard and Judith James. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Oct. 8 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Norco. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that Masses be said.

Cartozzo

Pete Cartozzo, age 72, died on Oct. 18 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, Johnson City, Tenn. A native of Independence, he was a member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Elizabethton, Tenn. and a foreman at Magnavox/Phillips. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Cartozzo, sons Steve of Johnson City and Mike of Atlanta, Ga., daughters Jennie Fletcher of Johnson City and Anna Williams of Elizabethton, grandchildren Elaine Fletcher, Joe Deel, Derek Cartozzo, Randi Williams and Cassie Williams, great-granddaughter Justice Deese, brothers Henry Cartozzo of Metairie, Jimmy Cartozzo of LaPlace, Sam Cartozzo of Norco and Joseph “Sonny” Cartozzo of Independence, sister Rose Courtney of Columbia, Miss. and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Oct. 22 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church followed by Interment at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the American Liver Foundation, 5583 Murray Road, Memphis, Tn., 38119.

Gaubert

Earline Bourne Gaubert, native and resident of Hahnville, passed away on Oct. 7. She was 83 years old.

She is survived by her suns, Charles, James and Virgil Gaubert, daughter Judith Zeringue, sister Rena Simoneaux, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Joseph Gaubert, and parents Charles and Arthemise Falgout Borne.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Oct. 11 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hahnville, followed by burial at the church cemetery in Taft.

Guidry

Donald Charles Guidry, age 68, died on Oct. 7 at River Parish Hospital in LaPlace. His parents, Joseph A. and Myrtle Kilebert Guidry, preceded in him death by many years. He is survived by his sister and guardian, Audrey Mae Guidry Miranda Friloux of New Sarpy, and two brothers, Clyde Guidryand Joseph A. Guidry, Jr., of Luling.

Donald was a native of Luling and lived most of his life in Norco in the home of his sister, Audrey, and her late former husband, Joseph A. Miranda Sr., along with his beloved surrogate sister and brothers, Debbie Miranda Weber and Joseph A. “Tony” Dino and Dennis Miranda. He is also survived by nephews Byron, Steven, Allen, Mark, Timothy, David and Kyle Guidry, M.D., and niece Lyndall Boyce, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

His last years were spent at Twin Oaks Nursing Home in LaPlace where he was afforded fine care and was loved by all the staff. Donald was a much loved, very special Downs Syndrome person who was always a “cowboy.” He was a past client to the ARC of St Charles.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Oct. 9 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Masses or donations to the ARC of St. Charles, P.O. Box 445, Boutte, LA 70039. The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Colin Bailey and the nurses who so compassionately cared for Donald at River Parishes Hospital.

McDermott

June W. McDermott of Luling died on Oct. 2.

Wife of the late John R. McDermott, she was mother of John E. McDermott and Gary A. McDermott, mother-in-law of Diane McDermott and Cheryl McDermott, sister of the late Betty Chapman, grandmother of Michelle Ryckman and G. Sean mcDermott, great-grandmother of Rees Michael Ryckman and Sean Bradley McDermott and step-grandmother of Nicole Short and Philip Short. She also had five step-great-grandchildren.

Memorial gifts can be mad to Luling United Methodist Church, 1001 Paul Maillard Road, Luling, 70070, or Canon Hospice, 1221 S. Clearview Parkway, Jefferson, La., 70121, in lieu of flowers.

Funeral services were held on Oct. 5 at Luling United Methodist Church, followed by interment at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie.

Racca

Marie Inis Duhon Racca died on Oct. 23, 2004. She was born Oct. 14, 1924 in Kinder. She was a native of Sulphur and a resident of the Living Center in Luling the previous four years. Devoted wife of the late James Stanley Racca, she is preceded in death by her parents, Olivia Miller Duhon of Woodlawn, and Willis Duhon of Kinder, a sister, Ethel McFerrin of Lafayette, Tenn., a brother, Hubert Duhon of Sulphur. Survivors include two daughters, Faye and her husband, Bruce Frickey Sr., Margaret and her husband, Terry Meyer of Raceland. Three sons, James and his wife, Brenda, Kenneth and his wife, Elaine, Harold and his wife, KiKi, all of Sulphur, one sister, Dorothy and her husband, Andrew J Drost of Kirksville, Mo., one brother, James Willis Duhon and his wife, Liz of Sulphur, brother-in-law, George (Buddy) McFerrin of Lafayette, Tenn. 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

A Homegoing Celebration commemorating her life was held on Oct. 26 in the Chapel of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home in Sulphur. Following the service, interment was at the Magnolia Cemetery in West Lake.

Walker

Walter Anthony Walker, a native of Norco and resident of New Orleans, died on Oct. 7. He was 70 years old. He is survived by his son, Russel Walker of New Orleans, daughters Stephanie Vega and husband Dr. J. Vega of Cut Off and Elizabeth Heitkamp McCaleb and husband Howard McCaleb of New Orleans, brother Howard Walker Jr. and wife Joanne, sisters Fay Louque and husband Warren of Destrehan, Catherine Dufresne and husband Romeo of Norco and Diane Johnson and husband Greg of Tampa, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Jay and Alexis Vega and Grace Walker.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard Walker Sr. and Verlie Richoux. Walter served the United States Army in Europe during the Korean War.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Oct. 11 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan.

Andrews

Paul Andrews died on Nov. 10 in Ozone, Ark.

A 30-year resident of Luling, he was beloved husband of the late Ruby Atkinson by first marriage and the late Lois Vance by second marriage. He is survived by his son, Julian Andrews and his wife Iona, daughter Paula A. Gaubert and her husband Virgil, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held on Nov. 13 in Ozone.

Bergeron

Lydia Nicholas Bergeron, a native of Taft and resident of Luling, died on Nov. 12. She was 99 years old.

She was beloved wife of the late Alfred C. Bergeron, daughter of the late Regina Champagne and Jean Baptist Nicholas, mother of Linton Bergeron and wife Earline, Martha Champagne and husband Eddie, Betty Champagne and husband Wiltz, Shirley Dufrene and husband Andrew, Douglas Bergeron and wife Brenda and the late Lorraine Bergeron, Gloria Troxler, Barbara Tyree and Alfred “Sonny” Bergeron, mother-in-law of Leander Troxler and the late Richard Tyree, sister of Julia Tastet and the late Lena Russo, Irene Horn, Inez Hickey and Jay B. Nicholas, also survived by 38 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

A Funeral Mass was held at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Luling on Nov. 15.

Fisher

Kenneth James Fisher lost his battle with esophageal cancer on Nov. 20 at 1:23 p.m. He was 61 years old.

Mr. Fisher, a New Orleans native, moved to Luling in 1956. He graduated from Hahnville High School and attended Southwestern and Louisiana State Universities. In 1974 he moved to LaPlace where he owned and operated Fisher’s Ace Hardware. In addition to serving on various national Ace committees, he was also a sponsor of the Children’s Miracle Network.

Mr. Fisher is the beloved husband of 39 years of Mary Claire Melancon, father of Connie Powell and Donna Marman, father-in-law of Glennon “Silky” Powell and John Marman, grandfather of Margaret and Allison, son of Leonard K. and Esther Maloney Fisher, brother of Kay Blocker, Jack Fisher and Michael Fisher. He is preceded in death by his son, Glenn Michael, brother Leonard K. Fisher, and his in-laws, Mary Clyde and A.J. Melancon Jr.

A Funeral Mass was held on Nov. 23 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in LaPlace, followed by burial at Garden of Memories on Airline Drive in Metairie. In lieu of flowers, masses or donations to St. Joan of Arc Church Fund are preferred.

Gaudet

Merlin James Gaudet Jr., 21, of Houma died recently. He was a native of Raceland.

Gaudet is survived by his parents, Merlin James Gaudet Sr. and Cynthia Triche Cook; grandparents, Velma Gaudet, Jerome Triche and Nancy T. Ogle; brother, Tommy Gaudet; and sisters, Nellie Cook, Romanda Cook, and Sophie Cook.

He is preceded in death by his grandparent, Edgar Gaudet; and brother, Nick Gaudet.

He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Nativity Church in Raceland. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 8 at St. Mary’s. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetary.

Green

Thomas (Tom) Green, 81, of Prairieville, passed away peacefully on Nov. 16 following a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Lou Cox Green, three sons, Thomas Stephen, David Austin and Mark Alan Green, six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; brother, Robert D. and sister, Rita Mae Green and their families also survive him. His parents, Fred and Beulah Rodgers Gayle Green and a sister, Eudora May Green, preceded him in death.

He was born in San Antonio, and was a long-time resident of Edna and Victoria, Texas. He graduated from Edna High School and attended Texas A&M and the University of Texas. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps on Johnston Island in the Pacific Theatre.

He retired from Union Carbide after 28 years of faithful service. Tom was a loving husband and father, and was a good provider. Though he is resting peacefully in Jesus' arms, his family will miss him. Graveside services will be held on Nov. 22 at 10 AM at Memory Gardens of Edna. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Spinal Muscular Atrophy (smasupport.com) Support, Inc., PO Box 6301, Kokomo, IN 46904-6301.
