Maronge

Alma Raiford Maronge, a native of Baton Rouge and resident of New Orleans for 53 years and Birmingham, Ala. for four years, died on March 28. She was 76 years old.

A graduate of Baton Rouge High, she was a member of the Central Baptist Church in New Orleans, Fellowship Bible Church in Metairie and Dufort Community Bible Church in Alabama.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George P. Baronge Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Maronge Forsag of Luling, sons Rev. George P. Maronge Jr. of Birmingham and Michael Raiford Maronge of Baton Rouge, brother Dr. James B. Raiford of Green Cove Springs, Fla., nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at Bible Center Church in Luling on April 2 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Gideons International, P.O Box 822, LaPlace, LA 70069.

Robert

Tina (Chong) Robert, a native of Seol, Korea and resident of Ama for the past 28 years, died on March 14. She was 62 years old.

The beloved wife of Donald J. Robert, stepmother of Chris A., Deano J., Brent T. and Jassen P. Robert, mother-in-law of Thereze Z. Robert, grandmother of Brent T. Robert Jr., Nicholas A. Robert, Eric Robert, Michelle Robert and the late Jessie Robert, great-grandmother of Haley Robert, Hannah Robert and Tristan Tew.

Visitation was held on March 16 at Mothe Funeral Homes in Harvey. Interment will be held at a later date.

Robichaux

Roy “Phil” Robichaux Jr., a resident of Raceland, died on March 24. He was 53 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Thibodaux Robichaux, son Chad P. Robichaux, daughter Stephanie Robichaux Champagne and sister Judy Robichaux Plaisance. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy P. Robichaux Sr. and Pearl Talbot Robichaux.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on March 29 at St. Hilary of Poitiers in Mathew, followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery in Raceland.

Smith

Donyce Jackson Smith passed away on March 28 at River Parish Hospital from complications due to heart failure.

Born on Jan. 18, 1927, she was a devoted homemaker and a lifelong resident and community participant in Norco, where she will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Henry A. Smith, sons Glen D. Smith and wife Marilyn of LaPlace and Gary L. Smith Sr. and wife Pam of Norco, grandchildren Gary Smith Jr. and wife Deirdre, Rebecca Smith of Norco and Madison Smith of LaPlace, and brother John K. Jackson, formerly of Norco. She is preceded in death by her son, Danny, and brother, Charles Jackson.

Services were held on March 30 at Sacred Heart Church in Norco. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Sacred Heart Norco Senior Center, 425 Spruce St., Norco, 70079.

Becnel

James Alvin Becnel, lifelong resident of Destrehan, died on April 3. He was 76 years old.

Beloved husband of the late Janice Landry Becnel, father of Kirt A. Becnel of Destrehan, Karen T. Becker of Overland Park, Miss., Kenneth J. Becnel of Boca Raton, Fla.; Kalli M. Temple III of Greensville, S.C., Kay F. Clark of New Jersey and Krystal A. Becnel of Boca Raton; devoted friend of Mrs. Jewel Yancovich of Harahan; son of the late Joseph S. Becnel Sr. and Malvina Bossier Becnel, brother of Sidney, Harry, John Becne, Rita Weber, Grace Keller, Mary Ann Breaud and the late Roy, Dickie, Louise and Pearl Becnel; grandfather of Mally Hartenstein, Shane and Chancy Becnel; great-grandfather of Bryttani, Brooke, Alexandre and Justen Hartenstein.

Funeral services were held on April 5 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan, followed by interment at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum.

Blades

Kenneth Scott Blades, a native of Miami and resident of Boutte, died on April 17. He was 43 years old.

He is survived by his stepfather, Norman Robert, sons Ron Louis Blades and Nicholas Scott Blades, grandmother Margaret Gilbreath, daughter Brandi Lynn Blades, brother David William Blades, sister Cynthia Blades Bynum and grandchild Caine Michael Comardelle. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Blades and Anna Kay G. Blades Robert.

Religious services were held on April 21 at Falgout Funeral Home in Raceland.

Bourdreaux

Marian Parks Boudreaux, 64, of Paradis, died on April 30. She is survived by her five sons, Barry (Lea) Boudreaux, Garry (Stephanie) Boudreaux, Malvin (Carla) Boudreaux Jr., Don Paul (Cindy) Boudreaux and Shane (Tanya) Boudreaux, daughters Bambi Harrell (Mark) and Dana Folse (companion Bert), 23 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, brother Melvin Parks Jr. and sister-in-law Beverly Parks. She is preceded in death by her husband, Malvin J. Boudreaux Sr., and parents Melvin and Marie Musser Parks.

A Funeral Mass will be held today at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Paradis. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery in Bayou Gauche.

Dixon

Midshipman 2nd Class United States Navy Jay Michael Dixon died on April 9 in Annapolis, M.D. A lifelong resident of Destrehan, he was 21 years old.

Son of Debra Hentze Dixon and the late J. Michael Dixon, brother of Gregory Michael Dixon, he is also survived by a grandmother and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

As a Midshipman 2nd Class at the United States Naval Academy, Jay was majoring in physics and a member of the society of physics students. A 2002 graduate of Brother Martin High School, Executive Officer of the J.N.R.O.T.C. and National Honor Society.

Jay was buried with full military honors on April 14. A Funeral Mass was held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan, followed by interment at St. Charles Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brother Martin High School Scholarship Fund.

Dufrene

Kevin Wayne Dufrene of Paradis died on April 13. He is survived by his loving wife and friend Delilah Dufrene. He was the loving father of Douglas and Tabitha Hymel, Justin and Shawna Dufrene and Jon Eric Dufrene. He was the loving son of Harris and Thelma Dufrene Sr., brother of Harris Jr. and Becky Dufrene, Brian and Tammy Dufrene, Karen and Mike Russo. He is also survived by one grandchild, Abby Leann Hymel, 17 nieces and nephews, 16 great-nieces and nephews as well as many loving friends.

Funeral services will be held today at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Paradis. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. and lasts until funeral time.

Landry

Moise J. Landry, a native of Chackbay and resident of Raceland, died on April 2. He was 80 years old.

He is survived by his son, Randy Landry and his wife Karen G., daughter Elaine L. Pierce and husband Nickles, brother Villier Landry, sisters Doris Sanchez, Una Ledet, Annie Matherne and Leona Crochet, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bella Folse Landry, parents Lucien Felician and Ernestine Rossau Landry, stepmother Marie Vicknair Landry, brothers Wilbert, Ernest and Joseph (Eugene) Landry and sisters Nobie Levron, Mildred (Blanche) Keller, Hazel Landry, Bernice Aucoin and Elise Cheramie.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on April 5 at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church, followed by interment at St. Hilary Resurrection Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Nicholas

Nolan C. Nicholas, age 78, died on April 3. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norco, American Legion Post 195 and the VFW. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Wade Rogers, two grandchildren, Ian and Ethan Rogers, and nine nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Maxime and Louise Nicholas and brothers Roy, Leonard, Kenneth and Robert Nicholas.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on April 6 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norco, followed by entombment in Garden of Memories Mausoleum in Metaire.

Ockman

Beverly Guidry Ockman, a native of Thibodaux and resident of Hahnville, died on April 14. She was 68 years old.

Wife of Elton Stephen Ockman Sr., daughter of the late Charles J. Sr. and Leticia Ordoyne Guidry, mother and mother-in-law of Cheri and Mike Williams, Laurie and Brent Rawson, Bryan and Cathy Ockman and Elton “Jay” Ockman Jr., sister of Lucy Rodrigue, Anna Mae Blanchard, Shirley Aysen, Norman Guidry, C.J. Guidry Jr., Ray Guidry and the late Curtis and Leroy Guidry.

She was the area supervisor for the St. Charles Parish School Board Food Services before her retirement. She was a member of the St. Charles R.S.V.P. group and Hahnville Homemakers club.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on April 18 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hahnville, followed by interment at Holy Rosary Church Cemetery in Taft. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.

Tucker

Ralph Tucker, 75, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., died on April 28. He was born in Georgetown, Ohio on Feb. 13, 1930, and has lived in Florida for the past several years. Mr. Tucker is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Alice, son Dr. Michael Tucker and his wife Theresa, daughters and spouses Debbie (Richard), Dianna (Russell), Darlene (Kenny), Dorothy (Jay) and grandchildren Brandi, Heather, Dustin, Candace, Brock, Chelsea, Carlee, Kasee, Connor and Caroline.

A private ceremony was held in Lehigh Acres, Fla.

White

Kevin Maurice White Sr., a native of Terrebonne Parish and resident of Killona, died on April 17. He was 45 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Latricia M. Woods White, son Kevin White Jr., daughters Latoya Woods, Maurianne White, Jzanell White and Juliette White, brothers Groover J. White and Leroy C. White, sisters Unise Patricia Simmons and Cassandra D. Collins and one grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, Juliette White and Myrtle Woods, brothers Aaron D. White and James White Jr. and sister Pauline W. Lion.

Funeral services will be held today at Community Funeral Home, followed by burial in Deweyville.

Zimmer

Annie S. Zimmer died on April 7. She was 80 years old.

Beloved wife of the late Arthur N. Zimmer Jr., loving mother of Arthur N. Zimmer III, Jerry H. Zimmer, Kenny J. Zimmer, Karen Z. Giglio, Tina A. Seeber and Randy M. Zimmer; daughter of the late Marie Lorenz and Salvador Scramuzza; sister of Gloria Lama, Joyce Dawson, Marlene Ragusa and the late Nick Scramuza; also survived by 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Zimmer was a parishoner at St. Helena Catholic Church in Amite. She was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Amite for 25 years.

A private Funeral Mass was held on April 9 at Leitz-Egan Funeral Home in Metairie, followed by interment at Garden of Memories.

Barfield

Flossie Trepagnier Barfield, a retired Licensed Practical Nurse, died of natural causes at River Regions Hospice on May 21. She was 75.

Wife of the late E.V. Barfield. Beloved mother of Tab M. Trepagnier, Tammy B. Dufresne, and Michael J. Barfield. Sister of Barbara T. Moody, Roy A. Trepagnier, and Garland Trepagnier. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Trepagnier. She is also survived by a grandson, Brandon; a niece, Lisa Lloyd; and a nephew, Keith Trepagnier. She was a native and resident of Norco.

Visitation was held on May 26 from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Alexander Funeral Home in Norco. A Funeral Mass followed at the Sacred Heart Church in Norco at 11 a.m. The interment was at the St. Charles Borromeo Cemetary.

H.C. Alexander Funeral Home of Norco was in charge of the arrangements.

Barney

Jessie Barney Sr., a retired employee of the Destrehan grain elevator, died on May 4 of complications from emphysema at his home. He was 68 years old.

Mr. Barney was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended Bethune High School in Norco. Survivors include four sons, Jessie Barney Jr., Otis and Everett Barney, and Brian Augullard; five daughters, Tonia Anderson, DeShonne Barney, Carol Lynn King, and Paula and Kathy Barney; two brothers, James and David Butler; two sisters, Katie Grandberry and Cheryl Butler; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral was held on May 11 at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave.

Berthelot

Aaron Joseph “Bird” Berthelot, a native of Lutcher and resident of Gramercy, died on May 4. He was 21 years old.

Son of Kenneth “Pedro” and Delores “Dee” Leonard Berthelot, Gramercy. Grandson of paternal grandparents Rose M. Berthelot and the late Dalton Berthelot and maternal grandparents Genevieve T. Leonard and the late Norman Leonard. Brother and brother-in-law of Alan and Danielle Berthelot, Jason and Tara Berthelot and Ryan Berthelot and fiance Becky Morgan, all of Gramercy. Uncle of Colin, Austin and Megan. Also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was a member of the Gramercy Volunteer Fire Department, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a student at the ABC School in Baton Rouge.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on May 7 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gramercy.

Blaylock

James Daniel “J.D.” Blaylock, a native of Ellisville, Ark. and resident of Luling, died on May 1. He was 85 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Miles Blaylock, sons Martin Blaylock and wife Carmen and Kenny Blaylock, grandson James Daniel Blaylock, brother Charles Blaylock and sister Alma Smead. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Oscar Blaylock and Polly Butler Blaylock, brothers Eugene and O’Neil Blaylock and sisters Christine Gardner and Maggie Smead.

Mr. Blaylock was a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Luling, a member of the Masonic Lodge of El Dorado and retired from Monsanto after 34 years of service.

Religious services were held on May 4. at First Baptist Church of Luling.

Bourgeois

Marie-Louise Landeche Bourgeois, a homemaker, died on May 21 from complications from Parkinson’s Disease. She was 78.

She was the beloved wife of Joseph I. “Knock A Bout” Bourgeois. She is also survived by sons: Joseph I. Jr., Carl, Deryle, Terry, Keith, Wayne, and David Bourgeois; daughters: Linda Boudreaux, Elaine Tallman, Debbie Page, and Sharon Metrejean; three sisters: Lorraine Rodriguez, Anna Mae Melancon, and Rita Hymel; 8 brothers: Roy, Alvin, George, Claude Roger, Wesley, Harold and Henry III Landeche; 32 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents: Henry J. and Pauline Lousteau Landeche; brother, Floyd Landeche; and two grandchildren: David Ledet and Erica L. Metrejean.

She was the Valedictorian during high school.

Mass of Christian Burial was May 24 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Luling. Entombment in St. Charles Mausoleum in Luling. H.C. Alexander Funeral Home of Norco was in charge of arrangements.
