Loving husband and father

BALDWIN - Services for Christopher Paul "Chris" Mayon, 27, will begin at noon Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Bill Melancon officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

A native of Franklin and a resident of Baldwin, Mr. Mayon died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, near DeQuincy.

He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Coleman Mayon of Baldwin; two daughters, Maci and Brooklyn Mayon, both of Baldwin; two brothers, Donald Derouen and Mark Mayon, both of Franklin; his mother, Noemie Derouen Brown of Baldwin; and his grandmothers, Eula Mayon and Nellie Orgeron, both of Franklin.

Mr. Mayon was preceded in death by his father, Donald Mayon Sr.; and his grandfathers, Rivest Derouen and Aldon Mayon Sr.

Ibert's Mortuary Inc. of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.

Services are pending for Mrs. Boston Roman, 91, the former Amy Antoine, who died at 8:04 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Iberia Medical Center.

Naomi D. Strambler

Loving mother and grandmother

LYDIA - Services for Naomi "Nega" Strambler, 80, the former Naomi Derbigney, will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with the Rev. Emmanuel Hernandez officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of services with a 10:30 a.m. rosary at the church.

A resident of Grand Marais, Mrs. Strambler died at 2:40 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at Dauterive Hospital following a brief illness.

Mrs. Strambler was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of the Harry Eugene Post 549 of Jeanerette.

She is survived by one son, Clyde Tauriac of Grand Marais; her adopted daughter, Brenda Kaye Howard of Virginia Beach, Va.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Strambler was preceded in death by her parents, Ferdinand Derbigney and Marilyn Olivier Derbigney; three sisters, Yola Antoine, Alice Nelson and Angela Derouen; and four brothers, Albert, Peter, Jack and Oray Derbigney.

Pallbearers will be Steward Broussard Sr., Peter, Wendell and Martin Derbigney, Daniel Ellis II and Andre Kerykendall.

Fletcher Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Rodney Emonet Sr.

Loving father and grandfather

COTEAU - Services for Rodney Louis Emonet Sr., 69, will begin at noon Friday at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church with the Rev. Matthew Higginbotham officiating. Interment will be in Franklin cemetery in Franklin.

Visitation will be until the time of services Friday with a 7 p.m. rosary tonight at Evangeline Funeral Home, which will remain open all night.

A native of St. Landry Parish and a resident of Coteau, Mr. Emonet died at 10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at a New Iberia hospital.

Mr. Emonet was a retired employee with the Iberia Parish barn and was a sugar cane farmer.

He is survived by his mother, Alida Laviolette Emonet of St. Martinville; two sons, Rodney Lewis Emonet Jr., and his wife, Elizabeth, and Willie Joseph Emonet, and his wife, Leslie, all of Coteau; one brother, Placide Joseph Emonet of Loreauville; three sisters, Eva Gladys E. Tauzin of Coteau, Armance Emonet of Loreauville, and Mary Pearl E. Bergeron of Opelousas; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Emonet was preceded in death by his father, Arcade Emonet; his wife, Dora Lee Guillotte Emonet; and his brother, Hervey Lee Emonet.

Pallbearers will be Donald and Adrien Guillotte, Wayne Amy, Chris Jenkins, Ted Seale and David Olivier.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Wiggins, Rodney Landry and Renes Dore Jr.

Preston J. Hebert

ERATH - Services for Preston Joseph Hebert, 75, were held at 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with the Rev. Wayne Duet officiating. Entombment was in the church mausoleum.

A native and resident of Erath, Mr. Hebert died at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at his residence.

Mr. Hebert was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. He was a tugboat captain most of his life. He worked for Pintail Enterprises at Intracoastal and retired at 65, but continued to work for them for the last 10 years. Mr. Hebert worked for the Holsom Cotton Brothers as a salesman for 12 years during the 1950s.

He was a member of the Derouen Moss American Legion Post in Erath, the Erath Backers Booster Club, the Erath Century Club and was an usher at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Mr. Hebert loved cooking, especially for family and friends, and was known as an excellent cook. He enjoyed playing his regular card games with his local friends in town, and loved sports. He attended many local sporting events as well as out-of-town games regularly, especially the Saints' games.

A heartfelt thanks from the Hebert family to Abbeville General Hospital, Iberia Medical Center, Dauterive Hospital and the Medical Center of Southwest Louisiana and to their caring staff. Also to Hospice of Acadiana for making the final days of Mr. Hebert's life comfortable and peaceful, and to his wonderful physicians, Dr. Mehmood Patel, Dr. David Allie, Dr. David Autin and Dr. James Bienvenu. Many kind thanks to all the family and friends who were there for support and all the kindness they showed to Mr. Hebert's family.

Mr. Hebert is survived by his wife, Louise Dore Hebert of Erath; two sons, Keith Hebert of Pineville, and Christopher Hebert, and his wife, Yvette, of Erath; three daughters, Myra Toups, and her husband, Lacey, of Erath, Jennifer Mans, and her husband, Gary, of Erath, and Kimberly Verret of Erath, and her friend, Treg Sonnier; 12 grandchildren, Marshal, Angela, Jonathan, Lori, Brett, Janise, Medessia, Trake, Tyler, Nicole, Andrea and Kristen; nine great-grandchildren, Cameron, Ashley, Tra, Brittney, Gavin, Bryce, Cody, Seth and Mckayla; and numerous nieces, nephews and first cousins.

Mr. Hebert was preceded in death by his parents, Luke and Erma Michel Hebert.

Pallbearers were Darrell Dore, Marshal Hebert, Todd Touchet, Brett and Jonathan Toups, and Trake Verret.

Honorary pallbearers were Terry Broussard, Terry Dore, Steve Granger, Keith Hebert, Travis Kendrick, Rudy Lange, Sterling Menard, J.C. Romero, Rodney Simon and Tyler Verret.

Services are pending for Danny Joseph LaPorte Sr., 51, who died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000.

Benjamin Morgan Sr.

JEANERETTE - Services for Benjamin T. "Ben" Morgan Sr., 92, will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Kalinowska officiating. Musical selections will be played and sung by Angela Morgan Thornton. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:30-10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home, which will reopen Friday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of Gibson and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Morgan died at 3 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at his residence.

Mr. Morgan was a retired derrick barge captain and was employed with Senac Towing Co. He also was a chief engineer on a river steamboat on the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. He later worked for Beyer and Fredericks Tank Co. Mr. Morgan was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Raymond Morgan of New Iberia; three sons, Paul Morgan, and his wife, Julie, Robert R. Morgan, and his wife, Sharon, all of New Iberia, and Benjamin Morgan Jr., and his wife, Page, of El Paso, Texas; two daughters, Virginia Moore, and her husband, Bill, of Chicago, and Victoria Morgan of New Iberia; three half brothers, Harry Morgan, Richard Morgan of Springfield, Va., and Tommy Morgan of Tampa, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Morgan was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Fenwick and Virginia Guedry Morgan; five brothers; and five sisters.

Pallbearers will be Gordon Greig, Kenneth Lloyd, Bill Moore, Brian Quiring, Randy Robicheaux and Barry Segura.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Morgan and George Stonesigber.

Agnes L. Frederick

FRANKLIN - Services for Agnes LeBlanc Frederick, 71, will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of Assumption.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at Ibert's Chapel, which will reopen Friday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Frederick died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia.

Edwin J. Romero

Loving father and grandfather

COTEAU - Services for Edwin Joseph Romero, 89, will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church with Rev. Matthew Higginbotham, Rev. Paul Thibodeaux, Rev. Ed Degeyter and Rev. Edward Romagosa officiating. Entombment will be in the church mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 2:30-9 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary recited by the Knights of Columbus Council 5111 4th Degree Monsignor J.M. Langlois Assembly Honor Guard at Evangeline Funeral Home, which will reopen Friday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of New Iberia and a resident of Coteau, Mr. Romero died at 11 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at his residence.

Mr. Romero was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church of which he was an usher. His memberships included Knights of Columbus Council 5111 of Coteau, 4th Degree Monsignor J.M. Langlois Assembly, the Iberia Parish Farm Bureau, the Cattlemen's Association of Iberia Parish and the Cajun Co-op.

He is survived by four sons, Eddie Paul Romero, and his wife, Eunice, Donald L. Romero, and his wife, Gail, Nolan Romero, and his wife, Florene, and Daniel J. Romero, and his wife, Anna, all of Coteau; two daughters, Mary Romero Oubre, and her husband, Michael, of Coteau, and Elner Romero Austin, and her husband, Richard "Hank," of Saudi Arabia; his daughter-in-law, Lola Mae Romero of New Iberia; his sister, Mrs. Isaac (Josephine) Comeaux of Delcambre; 20 grandchildren, Ulysse, Joshua, Stoney, Shane and Benjamin Romero, and Tate Oubre, who will serve as pallbearers, Dana, Jarret, Shawn, Angela, Robin, Mandy and Toni Romero, Shelia Peacher, Tanya Oubre, Cindy Boudreaux, Nicole Maynard, Melissa Randazzo, and Vance and Emily Austin, who will serve as honorary pallbearers; nine great-grandchildren, Sydney and Seth Oubre, Tyler and Taylor Romero, Joseph Roy, Kent Eskine, Trent Fremin, and Chad and Kimberly Boudreaux; and his loyal caregiver and friend, Ella Conner of Four Corners.

Mr. Romero was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Freyou Romero; his parents, Demonstand and Scholastic Babineaux Romero; his son, Jimmy Romero; his grandchildren, Jason Romero, and Marie and Cherie Austin; four brothers, Desard, Joseph, Laurent and Isaac Romero; and five sisters, Marie Romero, Mrs. Calaise (Effie) Comeaux, Mrs. Jackson (Olympe) Broussard, Mrs. Adolph (Irma) Cormier and Mrs. Clarence (Lily) Darby.

Laura M. Segura

ABBEVILLE - Services for Mrs. Larry Segura, 56, the former Laura Mae Maturin, will begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Therese Catholic Church with the Rev. Greg Simien officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul cemetery.

Visitation will be until 10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at Vincent Funeral Home, which will reopen Friday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A resident of Abbeville, Mrs. Segura died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Larry Segura of Abbeville; her son, Patrick Miguez of Abbeville; three brothers, Joe Maturin of New Iberia, Johnny Maturin of Sulphur, and Jimmy Maturin of St. Martinville; one sister, Susan Maturin of Erath; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Segura was preceded in death by her parents, Alidier "Blackie" and Alta Mae Touchet Maturin.

Milton A. Colgin

Services for Milton Anthony Colgin, 94, will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:30-9 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home-New Iberia Downtown, which will reopen Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of New Iberia and a resident of Jeanerette, Mr. Colgin died at 3:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at Maison Teche Nursing Center in Jeanerette.

Mr. Colgin was a painter.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Hill Colgin of Jeanerette; two stepsons, Charles Hill of Baton Rouge, and John M. Hill of Gonzales; one stepdaughter, Peggy Hill Henry of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Celina Colgin Bille and Louise Colgin Vuillemot, both of New Iberia; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Colgin was preceded in death by his parents, George and Louise Bernard Colgin; his daughter, Joyrita Colgin LePage; four brothers, Earl, George J., Howard and Richard Colgin; and his first wife, Madeline Molbert.

Pallbearers will be Keith, Scott and Brian LePage, Harry Bille, Joey and Bill Verret, and Sidney Schexnayder.

Gloria Collins

Loving mother and grandmother

Services for Gloria Charles Davis Collins, 70, will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church with the Rev. John Vianney Choorackunnel officiating. Interment will be in St. Matthew cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at Fletcher Funeral Home Chapel, which will reopen Saturday from 7 a.m. until the time of services.

A resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Collins died at 7:10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at her residence following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Collins was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church and was employed with Dauterive Hospital for 10 years.

She is survived by her husband, Rufus Collins Sr. of New Iberia; six sons, Leo Collins Sr. and Rufus Collins Jr., both of New Orleans, Arthur Joseph Collins, Jordan Ray Collins Sr. and Payton Mason Collins, all of New Iberia, and Albert Charles Collins Sr. of Lafayette; two daughters, Lula Rea Griffin of Enterprise, Ala., and Ruth Ann Payton of Austin, Texas; six brothers, Albert Charles and Vinery Davis Sr., both of Houston, and John C. Davis Sr., Jerome Davis Sr., Leroy Davis Jr. and Wallace F. Davis, all of New Iberia; eight sisters, Baby Lou Hypolite, Shirley Mae Fusilier and Ophelia Bernard, all of New Iberia, and Marylee George, Pearl Ann Smothers, Barbara D. Charles, Emma Cleary and Ella Mae Kately, all of Houston; 23 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Charles and Lula Mae Provost Charles Davis, and Leroy Davis Sr.; and her sister, Ollie Fusilier.

Pallbearers will be John C. Davis Sr., Jerome Davis Sr., Vinery Davis Sr., Wallace and Albert Davis, Leo Collins Jr., Dwight Griffin and Murray J. Jackson Jr.
