STERLING P. ‘BUSTER’ CHARPENTIER JR.

Sterling P. “Buster” Charpentier Jr., 84, a native and lifelong resident of Franklin, Passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at 12:50 a.m., at Franklin Foundation Hospital.

Mr. Charpentier was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Later in life he went on to work for Shell Oil. After 33 years of dedicated service, he retired from Shell Oil in 1986. He enjoyed his morning visits with friends at McDonald’s. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. McPherson, Dr. Tessi and the staff of Franklin Foundation Hospital for the loving care given to Mr. Buster.

He is survived by his wife, of 66 years, Dorothy “Dot” Bourque Charpentier of Franklin; two sons, Sterling P. Charpentier III and his wife, Shirley, of Franklin, and Ashby A. Charpentier and his wife, Pattie, of New Iberia; two daughters, Sharon C. Becnel of Lafayette and Sheila C. Lowry and her husband, Al, of Lafayette; one sister, Mary C. Jones of Franklin; 11 grandchildren, Libby C. Sullivan, Sterling “Petey” Charpentier IV, Larry Charpentier, Angela C. Gary, Scott Michael Charpentier, Tara Rose Charpentier, Shannon B. Trahan, Nicole B. Deslatte, Amanda L. Broussard, Travis John Lowry and Lauren Anne Lowry; 16 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Charpentier was preceded in death by his father, Sterling P. Charpentier Sr.; his mother, Rose Ferrero Charpentier; one brother, W.J. Charpentier; two sisters, Vivian C. Stephens and an infant sister; and one son-in-law, Mike Becnel.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed Thursday, February 4, at Ibert’s Mortuary, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., with the rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. Visiting will resume Friday at Ibert’s from 9 a.m. until dismissal at 10:30 a.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, February 5, at 11 a.m., at the Church of the Assumption. Burial will follow in the Franklin Cemetery. Father Lloyd Benoit will officiate the services.

Pallbearers will be Sterling P. Charpentier III, Ashby A. Charpentier, Travis John Lowry, Sterling “Petey” Charpentier IV, Larry Charpentier and Al Lowry.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

MILTON CHARLES

Mr. Milton Charles, 85, a resident of Sorrell and native of Four Corners, died Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at 9:40 a.m., at his residence following a short illness.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Viola Gabriel Charles of Sorrell; one daughter, Velma Charles of Sorrell; one grandchild; and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister and one daughter, Evelyn Charles Harris.

Visitations will be observed Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the St. Moses Baptist Church.

Burial rites will be read Saturday, at 1 p.m., at that church. The Rev. B.K. Stevens will officiate. interment will follow in the Sorrell Cemetery.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

CHARLES L. CHAPRON, SR.

Jan. 24, 1922 – May 3, 2010

Charles L. Chapron Sr., 88, a native and a lifelong resident of Baldwin, died Monday, May 3, 2010 at 10:40 a.m., at Thibodaux Regional Hospital.

Charles is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lettie Arboneaux Chapron of Baldwin; two sons, Charles Chapron Jr. and Henri Joseph Chapron, both of Baldwin; one daughter, Patricia Chapron Landreneau and her husband, Nedwin, of Lafayette; his sister, Martha Chapron Boudreaux of Baldwin; two grandchildren, Patrick Landreneau and Mila Granger, both of Lafayette; two step grandchildren, Dr. Paul Landreneau of Lafayette and Michael Landreneau of Kemah, TX; nine great grandchildren, Nathan, Anna, Amelia, Isaac and David Landreneau, Reece Landry, Ryan Granger, Taylor and Jaydon Landreneau; nephews, Bernard Boudreaux of Baton Rouge, Phillip Boudreaux of Lafayette, Chapron Boudreaux of Baldwin, Joe and Jim Dry of Baldwin, nieces Dr. Jane Dry of Houma and Martha Battaglia of Baldwin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph H. Chapron and his mother, Delia Melancon Chapron; one brother, Joseph Henri Chapron and three sisters, Yvonne Prevost, Yvette Dry and Gladys Chapron.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baldwin.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, May 5th at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Fr. Cormier officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Mr. Charles was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp during World War II, serving as Staff Sergeant on B17 and B24 bombers as a waist gunner.

He owned and operated Chapron’s Service Station in Baldwin for 45 years. He and his father served the town of Baldwin for many years.

He retired in 1991 and enjoyed woodworking as a hobby.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. 1007 Main Street. Franklin, Louisiana 70538.

DAVID LUKE CHAMPAGNE

Feb. 1, 1988 ~ March 15, 2010

David Luke Champagne, 22, a lifelong resident of Centerville, Passed away Monday, March 15, 2010 at 3:05 p.m., at Franklin Foundation Hospital.

He was born in Lafayette on February 1, 1988 to Elby Champagne Jr. and Betty Jo Pillaro Champagne. He was a 2006 graduate of Hanson Memorial High School. David had a great love of the outdoors and had a special appreciation for fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Bullet Bass Club and the Louisiana Bass Anglers Association, having participated in many tournaments.

In addition to his parents, David is survived by one sister, Nicole Champagne Hidalgo and her husband, Hugh; three nieces, Miya, Bella and Laila Hidalgo; his maternal grandparents, Myra and Joe Pillaro Jr.; his paternal grandmother, Jeraldine Champagne, all of Centerville; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Elby Champagne Sr.; and a cousin, Brian Walker Jr.

Visiting hours were observed Wednesday, March 17, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Centerville, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the rosary being prayed at 1 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial was held today, Wednesday, March 17, at 2 p.m., at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Centerville. Burial followed in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Father Ruben Primor conducted the services.

Pallbearers were Joe Ducre, Guy Peltier, Coby Broussard, Zack Senette, Ben Box, David Thibodaux, Jonathan Pillaro and Brian Walker Sr. Honorary pallbearers were Blake Rivere and Travis Robicheaux.

Arrangements were entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

OLIVER CARSON

Mr. Oliver Carson, 67, a resident and native of the St. Joseph Community, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at 5:45 p.m., at Franklin Foundation Hospital following a short illness.

He is survived by his mother, Eleanor Edwards Carson of St. Joseph; one son, Core Johnson of Dallas; three brothers, James Carson Jr. and wife, Mattie, of St. Joseph; Jeff Carson and wife, Hellen, of Baldwin; and Freddie Carson of Ashton; two sisters, Mary L. Carson of St. Joseph and Geraldine Carson Ceasar and husband, Danny, of Missouri City; and one grandchild.

Mr. Carson was preceded in death by his father, four sisters and one brother.

Visitations will be observed Saturday, July 31, from 8 to 9:30 a.m., at Otis Mortuary Chapel and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Charenton.

Burial rites will be read Saturday, at 1 p.m., at that church, with the Rev. Paul Godfrey officiating. interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

MORRIS CARROLL

Mr. Morris Carroll, 65, a resident and native of Jeanerette, died suddenly Monday, August 20, 2007, at 9:10 p.m., at his residence.

He is survived by one son, Barry Carroll of Jeanerette; two daughters, Mrs. Maronda C. Solco and Mrs. Carry Clay, both of Jeanerette; one brother, Watt Carroll Sr. of Jeanerette; one sister, Mrs. Lillie C. Bowie of Jeanerette; and one grandchild.

Visitations will be observed Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Rosary Catholic Church. A Rosary Service will start at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Burial rites will be read Saturday, at 11 a.m., at that church, with the Rev. Augustine Seran SVD officiating. interment will follow in the Sorrell Cemetery.

JOAN R. CALDWELL

Joan Ribbeck Caldwell, wife of Jack C. Caldwell of Lafayette died at Our Lady of Lourdes July 29, 2009 after a brief illness.

A reception in her honor will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Bacala in New Iberia Friday, July 31, at 1 p.m., with a private burial at a later date.

BERTRAND ‘BERT’ PAUL BURGESS

July 10, 1929 ~ May 11, 2010

Mr. Bertrand “Bert” Paul Burgess, 80, a native of Centerville and a resident of Verdunville, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.

Mr. Bert is survived by his wife, of 44 years, Dolly Pellerin Burgess of Verdunville; three sons, Neal Burgess and his wife, Evelyn, of Gautier, MS, Parnell Burgess of Verdunville and Randy Burgess of Verdunville; two daughters, Tammy Gray and her husband, Kenny, of League City, TX and Marnell Lewis and her husband, Wayne, of Verdunville; three brothers, Beverly Burgess, Richard Burgess and Leroy Burgess; seven grandchildren, Krystal, Mallory, Alex, Tasha, Alecia, Danelle and Nicholas; and two great grandchildren, Natalia and Jordan.

He was preceded in death by his father, O’Brien Burgess Sr.; his mother, Viola Paul Burgess; and one brother, O’Brien Burgess Jr.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Friday, May 14, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall in Verdunville.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, May 14, at 11 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall, with Father Thomas Vu officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

CELINE M. BROWN

Celine M. Brown, 75, died Friday, July 17, 2009 at her resident in Morgan City following a long illness.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 25 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, from 9 a.m. until funeral time at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Morgan City Cemetery (St. Anthony).

Celine was preceded in death by her husband and their first born a daughter, a son, and her parents.

She is survived by 12 children, Raymond L. Brown Jr. (Joyce) of Morrow, Georgia, Paula Boutte (Harold) of Patterson, Tena J. Trimm (Edward) of Morgan City, Anthony Brown Sr. (Michelle), of Morgan City, David R. Brown Sr. (Ernestine) of Morgan City, Monica F. Carter (Isaac) of Moreno Valley, California, Edwin Brown of Seattle, Washington , Marva B. Stewart, (Roy) of Morgan City, Fr. Keenan W. Brown of Arnaudville, Paul A. Brown of Morgan City, Judith E. Brown of Patterson and Effrem D. Brown (Nakaya) of Morgan City; a sister, Marjorie Darby (Milton) of Delcambre; and her brother, Roland Shello (Hilda) of Delcambre. She also leaves a legacy of 32 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
