Evans
Pauline Evans, 92
Funeral services for Pauline Marie Evans, 92, of Quitman were held Nov. 13 at the Highway Chapel Church of God with the Rev. Ronnie Thompson officiating. Burial followed in the Bear Creek Cemetery in Bryceland.

Mrs. Evans died Nov. 11 at Pinehill Nursing Home.

Born June 3, 1910 in Bienville, she was a housewife.

She was preceded in death by her son, James A. Cummings and one grandson, James Randall Cummings.

She is survived by her husband Francis W. “Gook” Evans of Quitman; grandchildren, Don Cummings of Port Barre, Jim Cummings of Port Barre and Cindy Thompson and husband Bob of Shreveport; 11 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers were Randy Alexander, Rodney Alexander, David Earl Brown, Jerry Brown and William Ed McConathy.

Pallbearers were Scott Brown, Steven Brown, Buster Poland, Kevin Poland, Rusty Poland and Rob Thompson.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Hood
Erma Hood, 85
Funeral services for Erma Friday Hood, 85, of Saline were held Nov. 19 at the Old Saline Baptist Church with the Revs. Calvin Hubbard and Stan Foster officiating. Burial followed in the Old Saline Cemetery.

Mrs. Hood died Nov. 17 at Healthsouth North Louisiana Rehabilitation Hospital.

Born Oct. 13, 1917 in Readhimer, she was a housewife.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie C. and Cleo Friday; husband of 50 years, Howard R. “Sam” Hood; son, Billy Howard Hood; sister Margueritte Lafiette; and brother, Lowell Friday.

She is survived by sons, Bobby L. Hood and wife Pricilla of Shreveport, Johnny R. Hood of Saline and Freddie Hood and wife Wanda of Saline; daughters, Betty Warren and husband Jerry of Saline, Carolyn Walsworth and husband Wesley of Jonesboro; brother-in-law, Jack Lafiette of Shreveport; special family friend, Mary Jones; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Honorary pallbearers were John Blalock, B.J. Hood, Josh Hood, Jack Lafiette, Howard Walsworth and Barry Warren.

Pallbearers were Bert Hood, Eric Hood, Joe Hood, Nick Wafer, Greg Warren and Lane Warren.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Kelly
Jerry Kelly, 69
Funeral services for Jerry Edwin Kelly, 69, of Austin, Texas , formerly of Hodge will be held at 2 p.m., Nov. 23 at the Hodge United Pentecostal Church. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery in Antioch.

Mr. Kelly died Nov. 5 in his home after a brief illness.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and was a retired acupuncturist in Austin.

He is survived by his wife, Rene Kelly; children, Phyllis Kelly, David Kelly, Mike Kelly and wife Jennifer and Kim Kelly Alvey and husband Bill; step-children, Jody Pounds, Mandy Vana, Cheryl Schier Van Dame; brothers, Gerald, Benny, Glen, Randall and Buddy; sisters, Peggy, Elizabeth and Jo; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Strain
Tony Strain, 51
Funeral services for Tony Royce Strain, 51, of Pulaski, Tenn, formerly of Jonesboro, were held Nov. 20 at the Carr & Erwin Funeral Home in Pulaski. Burial followed in the Giles Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Strain died Nov. 17 at his home.

Born in Jackson Parish to the late Johnny and Lois Horton Strain on June 20, 1951, he worked as a truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Strain of Pulaski; step-sons, Gary Rasberry and wife Marty of Lawrenceburg, Tenn. And Terry Rasberry and wife Beatrice of Fort Lewis, Wash.; brothers Allen Strain and wife Beatrice of Baton Rouge and Joey Strain and wife Lily of Fort Worth, Texas ; sister, Marie Tolar and husband Harold of Jonesboro; four step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services were under the direction of Carr & Erwin Funeral Home of Pulaski.

Satcher
Gert Satcher, 70
Funeral services for Sister Gert Eva Brown Satcher, 70, will be at 11 a.m., Nov. 23 at the Shilo Baptist Church in Bienville, with the Rev. Andre Howard officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul Cemetery.

Mrs. Satcher died Nov. 17.Visitation will be Friday from 6-7 p.m. at Patterson Funeral Home in Jonesboro.

Mrs. Satcher was born in Bienville on Feb. 3, 1932 to the late William Curtis and Annie Mae Brown.

Cherishing the beautiful blessings she left behind are: Bobby J. Brown, Billy R. Brown, Kathy R. Satcher, Alfredia J. Satcher, Terry W. Satcher, Connie R. Satcher, Kenneth W. Satcher, Felix M. Satcher and five step-children, Aline Hudson, James Satcher, Bernice Martin, Jerry Satcher and Alfred Satcher, Jr.

Funeral services were under the direction of Patterson Funeral Home.

Tippen
Thelma Tippen, 92
Funeral services for Thelma Kennedy Tippen, 92, of Chatham were held Nov. 13 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Stevens officiating. Burial followed in the Chatham Cemetery.

Mrs. Tippen died Nov. 11 at Longleaf Care Center.

Born Oct. 1, 1910, she was a homemaker.She is survived by her sons, Franklin D. Kennedy of Chatham, Fred R. Kennedy and wife JoAnne of Monroe and Roy Lynn Kennedy of West Monroe; sisters, Orelle Bustin of Ruston and Oretta Shows of Weatherford, Texas ; brothers, Aubrey Cartwright of Chatham and Clifford Cartwright of Chatham; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mike Kennedy, Kevin Kennedy, Jeff Kennedy, Ed Huff, David Waldrip and Steven Hemphill.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Toms
Johnnie Toms, 81
Funeral services for Johnnie Belle Toms of Goldonna were held Nov. 14 at the Glory Way Church with the Revs. Ronnie Taylor , Elton Gunter and Stewart Toms officiating. Burial followed in the Antioch Cemetery.

Mrs. Toms died Nov. 11 in the Winn Parish Medical Center.

She was born in Calvin to Dewitt and Mollie Hodge Carpenter and was a waitress and a homemaker. She was also a member of the Glory Way Church.

She is survived by her husband, Emery Toms, Sr. of Goldonna; step-daughter, Cynthis Joiner of Shreveport; step-sons, Randy Toms of Abingdon, Va. and Emery Toms, Jr. Hodge; brothers, Archie Carpenter and Jimmy Ray Carpenter of Goldonna; sister, Jewell Andrews of Goldonna; eight step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Trussley
Alice Trussley, 89
Graveside services for Alice Ruby Trussley, 89, of Jonesboro were held Nov. 18 at the Antioch Cemetery in Quitman with the Dr. Matthew Wohlfarth officiating.

Mrs. Trussley died Nov. 16 at Forest Haven Nursing Home.

Born Dec. 21, 1912 in Quitman, she was a retail clerk.

She is survived by daughter, Jonna Moody of Dallas; brothers, Troy Kennedy and wife Claudine of Jonesboro, Nathan Kennedy and wife Juanita of Quitman, Billy Kennedy and wife Barbara of West Monroe, Ted Kennedy and wife Vivian of Shreveport, Delmer Kennedy and wife Helen of Keithville and Earl Kennedy and wife Carolyn of Onalaska, Texas ; sisters-in-law, Dovie Kennedy of Shreveport, Lois Kennedy of Quitman and Lonie Kennedy of Sarepta; two grandchildren, Pam and Ricky; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Walker
Verb Walker, 67
Funeral services or Verb Grace Walker, 67, of Jonesboro were held Nov. 16 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Onie Hay officiating. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories.

Mrs. Walker died Nov. 14 at Jackson Parish Hospital.

Born May 22, 1935 in Jonesboro, she was a retired retail clerk.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Walker.

She is survived by daughters, Kathy Tolar and husband Ronnie of Jonesboro and Teresa Hicks and husband Jimmie of Jonesboro; step-mother, Ruby Wells of Bossier City; sisters, Sue Smith of Houston, Jane Bounds and husband Ted of Keithville and Becky Lane and husband Allen of Palm Bay, Fla.; brothers, Dan Wells of Bossier City, David M. Wells of Bossier City and Jim Wells and wife Ann of Cynthiana, Ken.; grandchildren, Melissa Tolar and Chad Tolar, both of Jonesboro; and great-grandson, Dawson Tolar of Jonesboro.

Pallbearers were Gordon Farley, Tony Hicks, Jr., Wesley Horton, Jimmy Johnson , Steve Porter and Troy Traina.

Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.
