Maurice A. “Moe” Penneton age 83 husband for 62 years of Elizabeth F. “Betty” (Lowery) Panneton of 12 Pope St Salem died in Salem Hospital Wednesday afternoon following a long illness.

He was born in Manchester N.H. the son of the late Ernest A and Josephine (Payeur) Panneton.

For over 50 years he was a machinist, retiring from Hansen Engineering in 1983.

In addition to his wife he is survived by 4 children, Retired United States Marine Corp Lt. Col. John A. and his wife Alice Panneton of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Elizabeth (Panneton) and her wife Dennis Trainor of Lynn, Ernest W. and his wife Helga Panneton of Salem and Robert P. and his wife Anne Panneton of Danvers; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by four brothers Adrian Panneton, Bertram Panneton, Rev. Paul E. Panneton and Gerard Panneton.

His funeral will be held Saturday at 7:45 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home 85 Federal St. (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a Funeral Mass at 8:30 A.M. in the Immaculate Conception Church, Salem.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday (today) from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.

Joanne L. “Mom Dukes” (Emerson) Caverly

Salem

Joanne L. “Mom Dukes” (Emerson) Caverly age 53, wife of Charles “Chuck” Caverly of 3 Cross St. Court Salem died unexpectedly at home Monday afternoon.

She was born in Beverly the daughter of the late John O. and Albina M (Richard ) Emerson, was educated in Beverly and was graduated from Beverly High School Class of 1965.

Mrs. Caverly received received her Associates degree from North Shore Community College in the Class of 1995.

She had been employed at the Ocean View Assisted Living in Beverly and the Ledgewood Nursing Home as a Certified Nurses Aid.

She enjoyed long rides in her car. Devoted to her family she is survived by three children Mark E. and his wife Debra Caverly of Lowell, Ma., Ryan T. “Ry-Ry” Caverly, and Jessica M. “Jessa” “Jessie” Caverly and her boyfriend Steve Marshall all of Beverly, their father Robert Berube of Salem; a brother Larry Michaud of Wilmington, Ma; 2 sisters Patricia Durgin of Hudson, N.H. and Gloria Shortbread, of Portland Maine; 2 grandchildren Haley Peterson and Evan Caverly both of Lowell, many nieces and nephews including Douglas Morin of Danvers and a faithful companion “Skippy”.

Her funeral will be held Friday at 9:45 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church Beverly.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Visiting hours are Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.

“B.J.” Charles Roy Curran IV

Salem

“B.J.” Charles Roy Curran IV age 19, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening in Salem Hospital following a lifelong illness of cystic fibrosis.

He was born and raised in Salem the son of Charles R. Curran III of Lowell and Laurie Gauthier and his step father Mark Lord of Sugar Hill, New Hampshire, was educated in Salem elementary Schools and attended Profile High School in Bethlehem New Hampshire. “B.J.” enjoyed working on cars, snowboarding and playing baseball.

He was happy, outgoing, enjoyed life and will be missed by all.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister Lee-Anne Curran and her fiancee Jeff Witham of Salem; 2 aunts Monique Natola of Plymouth and Denise Gauthier of Framingham; three uncles Kregg Gauthier of Rochester New Hampshire and Dennis and John Curran bother of Lynn his maternal grandparents Denise Cameron of Framingham and Edward “Soupy” and Jackie Gauthier of Salem; paternal grandmother Roberta Curran of Lynn; a nephew Bailey M. Witham of Salem; Godparents Theresa Killam of Danvers and Russell Halterman of Salem and many other close family and friends.

He is predeceased by his grandfather Charles R Curran Jr and his great grandfather Charles R. Curran Sr.

His Funeral will be held Saturday at 11:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home 85 Federal St. (Cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a Funeral Mass at 12 Noon in St James Church.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Visiting hours Friday 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.

Peter Sparhawk Brooking

Peter Sparhawk Brooking age 34 of Beverly, died February 1, in Beverly Hospital after suffering a severe heart attack.

He was born and educated in Salem the son of Robert M and Anne S. (Masters) Brooking. He had played Salem Hockey and participated in the Outward Bound program in Maine.

A member of the Seaman’s International Union (S.I.U), Mr. Brooking had served aboard the Tanker S.S. Gus Darnell during the Gulf War.

More recently he had been employed as a chef in local restaurants.

In addition to his parents, who reside in Salem, Mr. Brooking is survived by two children Sean P. Brooking of Salem and Debra Stevens of Lynn; 2 brothers William P. Brooking of Beverly and Stephen A. Brooking of Salem; his fiancée Deborah L’Italien of Beverly and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service will be held on Sat., Feb 9th, at 1:00 P.M, in the First Tabernacle Church, (Corner of Washington St. and Federal St.), Salem.

Barbara F. (Fitzgerald) Cleary

Salem, MA

Barbara F. (Fitzgerald) Cleary age 80, of Salem formerly of Portland, Ct., wife for 56 years of Robert Emmett Cleary, Jr. died Thursday January 31, 2002 in Salem Hospital.

She was born in Holyoke, MA the daughter of the late George and Barbara (Gibson) Fitzgerald.

Following her graduation from Holyoke High School she studied the Philosophy of Life at St. Joseph College, West Hartford, Ct., graduating in 1944.

On February 10, 1945 she married her husband Robert Emmett Cleary, Jr. at Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland.

They settled and lived in Portland, Ct., where they lived for over 40 years.

Active in many community activities, she was a member of St. Mary'Äôs Altar Guild, the Democratic Town Committee, the Visiting Nurse Association and was co-chair of the PTA.

She was also an elected Justice of the Peace. She was famous for three aspects of her life: family, friends and politics.

She created memorable parties at the beach house in Old Lyme, Connecticut, where, especially on the fourth of July, she hosted family, friends, and relatives and sometimes complete strangers to huge parties that invariably included a turkey, a ham, and a giant crock of home cooked baked beans. While it was her husband Robert who was twice elected to the office of First Selectman in Portland, Connecticut, it has been reported that the citizens were also voting for her. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Cleary is survived by her six children, Ellen and her husband Phillip Dube of Merrimack, New Hampshire, James Thomas Cleary of Portland, CT., Robert Emmett III and his wife Alison Cleary of Chelmsford, Ma., Barbara Ann Cleary and her husband David M. Hart of Salem, MA., David and his wife Candace Gray-Cleary of East Hampton, Ct., Michael Thomas and his wife Theresa Cleary of Portland, CT, 10 grandchildren: Matthew Dube of Northampton, Ma, Kate Dube of Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Liza Dube of Merrimack, NH, Alison and Ryan Cleary of Middletown, CT, Brenna and Colin Cleary of Chelmsford, Ma., Robert E. Laumann of the Netherlands and Brendan and Desmond Cleary of Portland, CT.

She was predeceased by two brothers Thomas and David Fitzgerald.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial Mass this Saturday, Feb 9 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Portland CT.

Edward J. “Ed” Prisby

Edward J. “Ed” Prisby age 82, husband of Anna (Rizzotti) Prisby of Salem, died Tuesday morning in Salem Hospital following a long illness. On June 29th he and his wife, Anna (Rizzotti) Prisby celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Raised and educated in Ipswich, he was the son of the late Stephen and Frances (Sobotka) Prisby and was known in Ipswich by many as “legs”. Following his graduation from Ipswich High School in the Class of 1938, Mr. Prisby was employed by the Charlestown Navy Yard until joining the United States Army in 1944. Following his discharge, he received his Bachelor’s Degree from Boston University in the Class of 1951.

In 1951 he became employed by the Sylvania Fluorescent Lamp Plant in Danvers and retired as the Personnel Manager in 1984. An avid golfer and tennis player, he played in the Sylvania Golf League and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was also a longtime member of the Salem YMCA and enjoyed summers at Lake Shore Park in Guilford, New Hampshire.,

In addition to his wife, Mr. Prisby is survived by three children Mark and his wife Martha Prisby of Bow, New Hampshire, Joanne and her husband Charles Martinec of Lunenburg, Ma and Stephen and his wife Judith Prisby of Bow, New Hampshire; a sister, Gertrude Marcorelle of Ipswich; 6 grandchildren Edward Prisby of Somerville, Ma., Adam Prisby of Bow, New Hampshire, Alicia and Malissa ( ed. Malissa is correct) Martinec both of Lunenburg, Ma and E.J. and Roxanne Prisby both of Bow, New Hampshire and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Stanley, Henry, and Alfred Prisby.

His Funeral will be held Friday at 8:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (cor of North St) Salem, to be followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Italian Church, Salem. Julie Ann (LeBlanc) O’Leary

Julie Ann (LeBlanc) O’Leary age 40 wife of Barry O’Leary of Salem, died Saturday evening in the Brigham and Woman’s Hospital, Boston following a courageous battle with cancer.

Daughter of Edmond and Mary E. (Hunt) LeBlanc of Salem, she was educated in Salem schools , was graduated in the Class of 1980 from Bishop Fenwick High School and had attended Salem State College. Mrs. O’Leary had been employed for many years by Avnet Corp. in Peabody in Large Computer Sales until becoming ill.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. O’Leary is survived by a sister Jane and her husband Andrew O’Brien of Lawrenceville, Georgia; a stepdaughter Shannon and her husband Chris Allworth of Ocala, Florida and many nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral will be held Wednesday, Nov 20th at 8:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home 85 Federal St., (cor of Rte 114, exit 25A from Rte 128) Salem to be followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 A.M. in St. Anne Church, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9P.M. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Peter J. Frigon

Boston

Peter J. Frigon age 59 husband of Kathleen V. “Kathie” (Busteed) Frigon of Salem died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon in the Massachusetts General Hospital.

Born in Bridgeport, Ct., he was the son of the late Henry and Veronica (Beloin) Frigon. Raised in Fairfield, Ct., he was graduated from Fairfield Prep in the Class of 1961 where he played on the championship football Team in 1960. . Following his graduation he continued his education at Tufts University receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in the Class of 1965 in Electrical Engineering. While at Tufts University he was inducted in the Delta Theta Kai Fraternity . He also was a three year letterman on the Tufts University Football Team and also had played tennis. He then received his Masters Degree in Business Administration from Columbia University in the Class of 1967.

Following his graduation from Columbia University he served in the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam Conflict.

Mr. Frigon was a visionary and leader in the computer industry having authored many articles and being published in Who’s Who for Computer Technology. Following a 14 year career with I.B.M he became a computer entrepreneur establishing several computer companies. His many projects included being on the leading edge of technology for Local Area Network (L.A.N) applications as well as fiber optics.

A lifelong sports enthusiast he enjoyed skiing and college sports especially his son‘s college lacrosse team at Notre Dame. His true dedication was to his family participating in all of his children’s activities including Irish Step dancing, Skating, Hockey and lacrosse. With his talents as a craftsman and woodworker he also made furniture for his family. He also was active as a captain with the United Fund Drive in Connecticut.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Frigon is survived by three children Kara Marie Frigon of Tokyo, Japan, Maura Elizabeth and her husband Scott O’Keefe of Whitman, Ma. and Kyle Peter Frigon of Notre Dame, Indiana; a granddaughter whom he was very fond of Caitlin Elizabeth O’Keefe of Whitman, Ma.; his mother in law Kathleen “Cassie” ( Sullivan) Busteed of Salem; two brothers Henry “Hank” and his wife Anne Marie Frigon of Scottsdale, Arizona and Donald Frigon and his wife Erica Sade of Easton, Ma.; 2 sisters in law Virginia and her husband Edward Mellus of Danvers and Janice Cox; 2 uncles Joseph Beloin of Milford, Ct., and Lionel “Pete” Frigon of Springfield, Ma. and many nieces and nephews.

His Funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home 85 Federal St (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St James Church. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday from 4-8 P.M.
