Carol Ann "Kitten" (Lander) Fontaine

PEABODY

Carol Ann "Kitten" (Lander) Fontaine, 41, of Peabody, wife for 20 years of Michael Fontaine, died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, Sept. 18, 2003.

Born in Saugus, she was the daughter of Carroll Lander of Peabody and the late Sadie (Swindell) Lander. She was raised and educated in Peabody schools and graduated from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School in 1980.

She was employed at the Mediplex Nursing Home in Beverly until she became employed at Brooksby Village three months ago.

She was a New England Patriots fan and was also an avid bingo player.

In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by two children, William and Annmarie Fontaine, both of Peabody; a sister, Louisa and her husband, Mark McClure, of Newfields, N.H.; many nieces and nephews, and two grandnephews.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home 85 Federal St.,(cor of North St. )Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Interment will be in Hamilton Cemetery. Frances M. "Frannie" (Anderson) Black

Ipswich

Frances M. "Frannie" (Anderson) Black age 70, wife for 47 years of Elliot Black of Ipswich, formerly of Wenham and Reading, died unexpectedly Sunday evening in the Cape Cod Hospital following a long illness.

Born in Chelsea, the daughter of the late Elihu and Ruth (MacKenzie) Anderson, Mrs. Black was raised in Revere. Later the family moved to Reading where she was graduated from Reading High School in the Class of 1951. She then was educated at the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School and became a secretary for Blue Cross Blue Shield until marrying and raising her family.

A devoted wife and dedicated mother and grandmother, Mrs. Black was a former Sunday School teacher at the Old South Church in Reading. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Black is survived by four children James R and his wife Deborah Black of Wenham, Daniel A and his wife Michelle Black of Rockport, Karen A and her husband Patrick Wallace of Hamilton and Leslie A and her husband Edward Parker of Salem and eight grandchildren.

A gathering of relatives and friends will be held on Sun from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by funeral services at 4:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Anna T. (Walsh) Cunney

Peabody

Anna T. (Walsh) Cunney, age 93, wife of John V. Cunney, M.D. a resident of Salem for 70 years, currently of Peabody and Sarasota Florida, died Monday afternoon following a brief illness. She is the last survivor of five sisters, Helen, Kathleen “Pat”, Marian and Ruth and the daughter of the late Edward and Nellie (Dundas) Walsh.

Anna graduated from the School of Nursing of Salem Hospital in 1930 as a registered nurse. She worked as an industrial nurse for several years at the Danvers Bleacher. After her marriage in 1942, she volunteered her time to local charities and was active with Salem Hospital, North Shore Catholic Charities and the St. Williams Guild at St. John’s Prep. She enjoyed bowling, playing bridge and gardening. She was an avid golfer at Salem Country Club since 1949 and was the Runner Up in the “B” Flight of the MGA. State Championships in 1958. She was a dog lover and was predecease by her golden retriever “Duffy” who she loved for 15 1/2 years.

She is the devoted wife of John V. Cunney, M.D, who practiced medicine in Salem for 42 years. They first dated in 1929, married in 1942 and had nearly 75 wonderful years together.

She had three boys, John Jr., of Boston, Paul of Lanikas , Hawaii and Richard of Danvers; she also leaves behind a loving daughter in law Joyce and two grand daughters Elizabeth and Taryn all of Danvers. She is also survived by many other dear friends and relatives.

Funeral Friday Jan 23 at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85Federal St (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass which will be celebrated by her nephew, Rev. Henry Cunney at 10:00 A.M. at St. Richard’s Church, Danvers. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thurs from 3 to 8 P.M. Interment will be in St Mary ‘s Cemetery, Salem. Floriando “Eddie” Scialdoni

Salem..

Floriando “Eddie” Scialdoni age 85 husband of Mary (Ingemi) Scialdoni of Salem died Wednesday afternoon in Salem Hospital following a long illness. On February 12 he and his wife would have celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Cesare and Pasqualina Scialdoni and was raised and educated in Salem. schools. Following his marriage he became employed at Puleo’s Dairy in Salem until entering the United States Army. During World War II, he served in the 10th Mountain Division in Italy. Following his discharge, he was worked in the Ingemi family business, the Ingemi Farm. Later he was employed at Steve’s Market in Salem as Grocery Manager and later by Aulson Tanning in Beverly a former employee of the Boston Yacht Club he was also the Bar manager for many years at the Lafayette Associates in Salem and had been an active member of the Christopher Columbus Society.

He enjoyed all sports and had bowled in several bowling leagues. In addition to his wife, Mr. Scialdoni is survived by five children Lena and her husband Anthony Mento, Josephine and her husband Paul Hardy all of Salem, Marie Bell and her fiance Paul Marmer both of Peabody, Edward and his wife Patti Scialdoni of Salem and Debbie and her husband Mark Troisi of Lynnfield; 12 grandchildren Tony and Ronnie Mento, Ann Marie Bailey, Mary Schaejbe, Joyce Trott, Linda Fogarty, Paul Michael Hardy, George Bradley, Philip and Laura Scialdoni, Christina and Brandon Troisi21 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by six brothers John, Frank, Guy, Silvio, Patsy, and Charlie Scialdoni, and three sister Madeline Pezzulo, Sally McKay and Rose Duratti.

His funeral will be held Saturday January 24, at 8:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor Rte 114, exit 25A from rte 128) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 A.M. in St. Anne Church, Salem. Robert “Bob” Bowker Eaton

Salem.

Robert “Bob” Bowker Eaton, age 85, died Thursday afternoon in Union Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Edna (Bekeritis) Eaton with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. Son of the late Arthur and Arline (Warren) Eaton, he was born, raised and educated in Waltham and was graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Ma.

As a child he spent many of his summers in Manomet and as an adult he continued to visit frequently.

Mr. Eaton was a World War II Army veteran. He served in the medical corps and was stationed in various hospitals in the United States as well as the Pacific theater.

Following his discharge, he moved to Salem and joined his uncle, Elmer Eaton, at the Eaton Apothecary, as a pharmacist. Bob was active and a member of the Masons and Shrine, including the Starr King Lodge of Salem, Amity Lodge of Danvers, the North Shore Shrine Club and the Aleppo Temple. He was also a member and volunteer at the Peabody Essex Museum of Salem,, the Traditional Small Craft, AARP of Salem and was a shipwright involved in the rigging and completion of the Sloop Friendship as well as the construction of the Captain’s gig at the National Park Service, Salem Maritime center.

He was a member of the Palmer Cove Yacht Club in Salem from where he sailed and moored his sailboat VAGABONDIA.

An accomplished woodworker, he also crafted small dories and sailboats from “scratch” which he would then paint and rig for display.

An avid gardener, he grew various varieties of vegetables which he gave to neighbors and friends.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Eaton is survived by a brother William and his wife Jean Eaton of Watertown; many niece and nephews and a wonderful friend Robert Hiltunen.

He was predeceased by two brothers Arthur and Warren Eaton and a sister Emma Eaton Bachofner.

A gathering of relatives and friends will be held on Monday, January 26, from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, (cor of North St ) Salem to be followed by funeral services at 10:30 A.M. in the Funeral Home. Interment of ashes will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. A memorial service will be held in Manomet at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arthur J. “Archie” Gibney

Salem

Arthur J. “Archie” Gibney age 58, former husband of Eileen Quinn- Gibney, of Salem died Wednesday evening in Salem Hospital following a brief illness.

Born and raised in Salem the son of the late Clayton J. and Mary Alice (Horne) Gibney, Mr. Gibney was educated in Salem schools and Salem High School. Mr. Gibney had a lifelong passion for trucks and as a young man, he learned to drive tractor trailer trucks in the parking lot of Salem Oil and Grease Co, where his father was employed. A truck driver for almost 40 years, he became a member of Teamsters Local 42 and drove for Flynn Tan in Salem until becoming employed by Hamblet and Hayes in Salem until his recent retirement. A dedicated father, Mr. Gibney enjoyed his family.

In addition to his former wife, he is survived by two children Melissa Gibney-Bisegna and her husband Robert Bisegna of Salem and Eric Gibney and his fiance Kristen Trull of Manchester by the Sea; three grandchildren twins Austin and Anthony Bisegna of Salem and Thomas Gibney of Manchester by the Sea; two brothers Retired Salem Police Officer Kenneth “Skip” Gibney of Clearwater, Florida and Vance Gibney of New Bedford, Ma,; two sisters Florence “Sis” Parisella of Beverly and Gail and her husband Kenneth Turcotte of Salem; a close friend Ronald Morin of Salem and many nieces and nephews.

His Funeral will be held Thursday April 15, at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem, to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church on the Salem-Peabody Line. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday, April 14 from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. George P. O’Donnell, Jr

Salem...

George P. O’Donnell, Jr., age 64, husband for 43 years of Priscilla L. (Belanger) O’Donnell of Salem died Tuesday morning in Salem Hospital following an 18 month battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Disease (A.L.S) which is also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.

A lifelong resident of Salem he was born in Salem the son of the late George P. and Theresa (Durkin) O’Donnell Sr. Mr. O’Donnell was educated in St. James Grammar School , was graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Lynn in the Class of 1957 and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Merrimac College.

An accountant in the greater Boston Area he worked with several companies including Clayman and Sons of Salem and retired as the Comptroller of Acme Wholesale in Needham.

Mr. O’Donnell enjoyed travel. He, and his wife and family had traveled the East Coast in their R.V. from Maine to Disney World. A Third Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Veragua Council 76 of Salem, one of his greatest joys was his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Mr. O’Donnell is survived by five children Kevin and his wife Sandra O’Donnell of Peabody, Pamela and her husband Richard Arno, Jr. of Salem, Michael and his wife Deborah O’Donnell of Danvers, Thomas and his wife Nancy O’Donnell of Peabody and Peter and his wife Andrea O’Donnell of Peabody; two sisters Marie and her husband William Burke of Salem and Sr. Patricia O’Donnell, S.N.D. of Ipswich; his father and mother in law Roger and his wife Lorraine (LaBrie) Belanger of Salem ; a brother in law Norman and his wife Virginia Belanger of Topsfield; a sister in law Arlene and her husband William Tomson of Vernal, Utah; 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

His Funeral will be held Fri at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St ) Salem to be followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, on the Salem-Peabody Line. Theresa C. “Teri” (Tobin) Derba

Salem

Theresa C. “Teri” (Tobin) Derba age 73 wife of the late James J. Derba Jr., formerly of Peabody, died early Wednesday morning following a long illness.

Born in Everett one of five children, she was the daughter of the late John R and Anastasia (Fitzgerald) Tobin. Mrs. Derba attended the Immaculate Conception Grammar School in Malden and St. Margaret’s Hospital Nursing Training School in Dorchester. She was employed in many hospitals as a registered nurse, including the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston City Hospital.

An accomplished artist, she enjoyed writing and painting and while living in Swampscott, Mrs. Derba became a member of the Swampscott Arts Association. She had also been a member of the Danvers Arts Association.

Mrs. Derba also enjoyed music. Her late husband, James J. Derba was a “Big Band” musician playing tenor saxophone and baritone for many bands including Woody Herman and Louis Bellson.

She is survived by a son James J. Derba of the North Shore; a daughter, Michelle Travis of Barrington, Rhode Island; three grandchildren Nicholas, Christopher and Lucas Travis all of Barrington, Rhode Island and several nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral will be held Monday at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody. Visiting hours Sunday from 2 to 6 P.M. Interment will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park Peabody. George A. Aubertin

Salem

George A. Aubertin, age 81, husband of the late Grace C. (LeBlanc) Aubertin of Salem died Wednesday evening at home following a brief battle with cancer. A devoted husband, he and his late wife were one of the first couples to marry in St. Joseph’s Church, Salem in 1950.

Born and educated in Lawrence the son of the late George and Clara (Mercier) Aubertin, Mr. Aubertin received his degree in Industrial Chemistry from Franklin Technical Institute. In 1943, he began a 41 year career at General Electric Company . During his career, Mr. Aubertin’s projects included developing the first jet engine used during World War II and also working on the engineering team which developed the fuel cell for the Gemini Space Program. January 1, 1984 he retired from General Electric as a member of the Quarter Century Club. For many years he has owned and operated “At the Beach with Uncle George” in Seabrook, New Hampshire.

He was a lifetime member and founder of the Salem Richelieu Club and served as the first President in 1965. A former member of the Salem Jaycees, in 1967, he was recognized by Archbishop Richard Cardinal Cushing for the implementation of Operation Change Plate. He was a founding member and first President of the A.A.R.P. Salem Chapter 2454, which filed its Articles of Incorporation January 22, 1976. He was also a “Silver Hair” Legislator . From 1975 to 1998, he was a member the Salem Housing Authority and had served as both Chairman and Treasurer. Mr. Aubertin was also a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Veragua Council 76 and a Fourth Degree Member of the Fr. Gabrielle Druillette Assembly.

He loved life, enjoyed people, cars, and travel. During the winter for many years he would travel to Makaha, Oahu, Hawaii.

Mr. Aubertin is survived by two sons Rene Jude Aubertin and his companion Kathy Lobao of Salem and Marc George Aubertin and his partner Michael Kleinschmidt of Boston; a sister in law Teresa Gray of Danvers and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister Clara Tessier.

His Funeral will be celebrated Saturday at 8:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St.) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 A.M. in St. Joseph Church, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to College Scholarship Fund of A.A.R.P. Salem Chapter 2454, P.O.
