June Morse

Marblehead

June Morse age 86, of Marblehead, formerly of Swampscott, died Sunday evening in the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home.

June Morse was born in 1920 in Swampscott, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Harold and Marion (Doen) Morse. She lived there until 1985 until moving to Marblehead.

In Swampscott, she was an elected Town Meeting Member and then served as an Election Commissioner for thirteen years. She was a member and office holder of the Swampscott Republican Town Committee, the Swampscott Women’s Republican Club, and the Women’s Republican Club of Essex County.

She received an AB degree from Connecticut College for Women and a Master’s degree with “Highest Honors” from Salem College. She was an office holder of the Boston Chapter of the Connecticut College Alumnae Association and a national director of the Alumnae Association for four years.

During WWII she worked as a chemist at Lever Brothers Company, Cambridge. Subsequently, she became involved in the educational field as Teacher of Mathematics at the Hillcrest School in Brookline and Director of the Summer School. For twenty-five years, she was the Director of the Independent School Testing Service.

For many years, June was associated with the Corinthian Yacht Club.

She leaves a sister, Judith and husband Walter Littlefield of Flat Rock, NC; a sister-in-law, Marie, Mrs. M. Kenneth Morse of Canton, OH; nieces: Barrie and husband, Mark Coffin of Mills River, NC; Janet and husband, Paul Schoellman of Massillon, OH; Nancy and husband, Philip Sonner of Massillon, OH; Sally Dale of Canton, OH; Pamela and husband Charles Bellmore of Milford, MI; a nephew, James Thomas, MD of Cincinnati, OH; and grand nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother M. Kenneth Morse of Canton, OH.

Private funeral services are under the direction of the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Animal Rescue League of Boston , Advancement Department, 1 Chandler Street Boston, MA 02116. For more information call 978 744 0497

Mabel H. Begley

Salem

Mabel H. Begley, age 92, a retired Librarian for the City of Salem, died Monday morning in the Rosewood Nursing Home.

A lifelong resident of the City of Salem, she born and raised in Salem the daughter of the late Timothy and Lillian M. (Kingsley) Begley. Miss Begley was educated in the Philips School and Graduated from Salem High School in the Class of 1932. She was employed by the Essex Institute as a Librarian for 13 years until 1945. She then became employed as a librarian for the City of Salem for 32 years. For 12 years she was employed at the Main Branch Library on Essex St. and the remaining 20 years of her career at the North Branch Library until her retirement in 1977.

A member of the St. James Guild and the Woman’s Friend Society, she believed in the importance of reading and delivered books to “shut ins” for over 20 years.

She is survived by a sister L. Nancy Bilodeau of Beverly; a nephew David Parsons of Salem, three nieces Lee Dawson of Rowley , Suzanne Briana of Beverly, and Deborah Lord of Salem and many great nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one sister Anna Parsons, a bother in law Raymond Bilodeau and a nephew Timothy Parsons.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1 Margin St., (on the Salem Peabody line). Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. At the family’s request there are no visiting hours. Burial will be private. Margaret T. “Pegge” (O’Rourke) Gillooly

Margaret T. “Pegge” (O’Rourke) Gillooly, age 80, a former longtime resident of Salem died unexpectedly, at her home in Shrewsbury on Friday April 13, 2007.

Mrs. Gillooly was born February 15, 1927 the daughter of the late Salem Building Inspector John J. and Margaret T. O’Rourke. Educated in Salem Schools, she was a graduate of Salem High School.

A stay at home mom, she raised her children and was active in all of their activities. She enjoyed spending time with her children and their families as they grew and was known affectionately as “Gram” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Gillooly is survived by two sons, Edward and his wife Kathy Gillooly of Westborough and John and his wife Deborah Gillooly of Salem; a brother John “Jack” and his wife Candace O’Rourke of Ossipe, NH; six grandchildren Amy and her husband Paul Michaud, Jeff and his wife Danielle Gillooly, Jennifer Gillooly, John and his wife Deborah Gillooly, Patrick Gillooly, and Patti Ann and her husband Chris Taft; six great grandchildren Paul Jr., Dylan, John III., Joshua, Jacob and Chelsi; a niece Colleen and her husband Brac Tucker of Tewksbury and a nephew John and his wife Karen O’Rourke. She is also survived by her former husband Edward Gillooly of Westborough.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. in St. James Church 156 Federal St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Lucy B. Hooper Favaloro

Worcester.

Lucy B. Hooper Favaloro age 45 beloved wife of Mark J. Favaloro of Worcester formerly of Marblehead, died at home unexpectedly Wednesday following a long illness.

The loving daughter of John and Joan (Colt) Hooper, Lucy was educated in Marblehead schools. She was a cheerful person who enjoyed her dogs and easily befriended all she met. During the summer Lucy enjoyed sailing with her family and gardening around her home.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by two brothers, George and his wife Jane Hooper of Marblehead and Jefferson and his wife Susan Hooper of Nahant; a sister Sarah Hooper of Salem; her nieces and nephews Jennifer, James, Abigail, Caroline and John; and her mother in law Mary Favaloro of Peabody.

Her memorial services will be held on Saturday April 21st at 11:00 A.M. in ST. Andrew’s Church, 135 Lafayette St., Marblehead, MA. 01945. Burial will be private. At the family’s request, there will be no visiting hours. Mary Ann Reisbach

Swampscott

Mary Ann Reisbach, age74, wife of the late Raymond A. Reisbach died Thursday, April 12, 2007 surrounded by her family in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, MA.

A longtime resident of Toledo, OH, she was born in Toledo, OH the daughter of the late Al Meyers and Margaret (Sutter) (Meyers) Deck. Following her education, Mary Ann was employed by the investment firm of Bell and Beckwith until beginning a family. A loving wife, Mary Ann was a stay at home mom active with her church, children and home. In 1975, following her husband’s death, she returned to Bell and Beckwith and then was employed by the V.F.W. Point Place Post #3265. Following the death of her longtime friend and companion, Joseph Mazur in 1999, Mary Ann moved to Marblehead, MA to be close to her family. On her first day in Marblehead, MA, Mary Ann became employed as a cashier at Crosby’s Market in Marblehead, MA. Her family wishes to thank everyone at Crosby’s for their friendship and support.

Mary Ann is survived by three children Cynthia and her husband Edward Guest of Mentor, OH, Tamara Reisbach and her husband Russ Chapman of Marblehead, MA and Daniel Reisbach and his wife Kathe Mickunas of West Bath, ME; a brother Thomas Meyers of Toledo, OH; a sister Madonna Stone of Toledo, OH; seven grandchildren Kaighan Pigott of Toledo, OH, Miles and Graham Reisbach both of Oak Park, IL, Kaitlin and Alex Guest of Mentor OH, Leah Chapman of Marblehead, MA and Isabel Mickunas Reisbach of West Bath, ME. She was predeceased by two brothers John and William Meyers both of Toledo, OH. Mary Ann’s greatest joys (besides working at Crosby’s) were road trips to Maine, her cat “Teddy” and her grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 P.M at Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor.of North St.), Salem, MA Her funeral will be held on Tuesday April 17, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead, MA. Ronald E. Simard

Salem

Ronald E. Simard, age 74, of Salem and St. Petersburg, FL died early Monday morning in St. Petersburg General Hospital, St. Petersburg, FL following a brief illness.

Raised and educated Salem the son of the late Emile J. and Stella (Dubiel) Simard, Mr. Simard was graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1950. After receiving his B.S. B.A in Marketing from Boston College in the Class of 1954, Mr. Simard served the United States Army and was stationed in Hawaii.

Following his discharge Mr. Simard became employed by Sylvania Lighting in the Auditors Office at the Boston St. Location for a year until beginning a career with 3M Industries. For over 35 years 3M employed Mr. Simard in their New England Sales Branch until his retirement in 1984. Shortly after his retirement, Mr. Simard relocated to St. Petersburg, FL where he has resided for over 20 years.

He was a former Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Veragua Council 76 in Salem.

Mr. Simard is survived by two children, Kerry-Lee and her husband Roland L. Noel of Hampstead, NH and David Simard of Monroe, Michigan; one granddaughter Lory L. Doyle of Lowell, MA; an aunt, Matilda Nadeau of Beverly and many cousins.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 17 at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (cor of North ST) Salem to be followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St. James Church, 156 Federal St,. Robert "Bob" Gauthier

SALEM - Robert E. "Bob" Gauthier, 68, died unexpectedly at home Saturday, Feb 12. He was the husband of Kathleen "Kathie" (Driscoll) Gauthier.

Born in Salem, the son of Laura (Pepin) Gauthier and the late Joseph Gauthier, he was educated at St. Joseph's School, St. Joseph's Academy and Assumption College. He enjoyed sports, having played football for the "Mohegan's" and also baseball for the "Braves," he also played golf and had been a member of the Salem Country Club and a past president of the Wenham Golf Club.

Mr. Gauthier worked with his father in the construction business with Pitman and Brown Construction and, in the early 1960's, began working with the city of Salem with many appointments and positions including the Salem Housing Authority, the Salem Redevelopment Authority, the board of appeals and as building inspector. He was clerk of the works on many construction projects including the Salem Middle School, Bentley School, the Saltonstall Schools and the Bates School. He served on the Salem City Council as a councilor-at-large and was a former mayoral candidate. He had been a project manager for A.T.&T. in Iran and was the former president of Granite Development.

A former member of the Naval Reserves, Mr Gauthier was a lifetime honorary member of the V.F.W. Witch City Post in Salem. He enjoyed boating and was a member of the Palmer Cove Yacht Club, was a third degree member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Father Gabrielle Druillette Assemby.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Stevan Gauthier of Salem; two daughters, Paula Gauthier Keene of Salem and Pamela McElmon of Middleton; two brothers Leo Gauthier of Lynn and Edward "Soupy" Gauthier of Salem; three grandchildren, Jennifer Gauthier of Beverly, Joshua Gauthier of Salem, and Ryan Robert McElmon of Middleton; a great granddaughter, Madison Gauthier of Beverly; a special friend and companion, Ginger; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Angel McElmon, and two brothers, Roger and Gerald Gauthier.

Arrangements: the Wake is Wed from 3 to 9; The funeral is on Thurs at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home 85 Federal St., Salem to be followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St James Church. Mary Ellen (Donnelly) Milton

SALEM - Mary E. (Donnelly) Milton age 98 wife of the late John Milton died in Salem Hospital Tuesday morning. She was born and educated in County Mayo Ireland the daughter of the late John E and Catherine (Cunningham) Donnelly and in 1925 emigrated to Malden, Massachusetts. Mrs. Milton was employed in many nursing homes and later at the Carmelite Seminary in Hamilton. A member of the Third Order of Mt. Carmel , she was also active in the Irish Social Club of Roxbury. She was also a member of the St. James Sodality and enjoyed gardening and travel. Mrs. Milton is survived by two children Fr. Hilary Milton, O. Carm., St. Anastasia Church, Teaneck, New Jersey and a daughter Mary Milton of Salem and several nieces and nephews.

George J. Bates III

BEVERLY - George J. Bates III age 54, husband of the late Susan (Faulkner) Bates died late Monday afternoon following a brief illness with cancer. He was born in Salem the son of George and Ruth (Sheehan) Bates Jr., was educated in St. James Grammar School and graduated in the first class of Bishop Fenwick High School Class of 1963. He then enlisted in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War and served overseas until being discharged in 1967. Mr. Bates enjoyed his avocation of gardening and had most recently been employed at the Ralph Waldo Emerson Inn in Rockport. He also found great pleasure with his two grandchildren. Mr. Bates is survived by a daughter and son in law Christina and Jeffrey Fanning of Beverly, his parents George and Ruth (Sheehan) Bates Jr. of Salem; two brothers Donald T Bates of Salem and William Bates of Peabody; three sisters Patricia Bates of Wakefield, Elizabeth LeClerc of Salem and Nancy Putnam of Georgetown; 2 grandchildren Jessica and Madalyn Fanning of Beverly and many nieces and nephews. He was the grandson of the late Salem Mayor George Bates and the nephew of the late Congressman William Bates.
