John W. Hallett
John W. Hallett, 82. a longtime resident of Ayer died on November 20, 2009 at Marlborough Hill Healthcare Center in Marlborough. He was born in Clinton on October 21, 1927 son of the late Peter and Bessie (Wright) Hallett. He spent his early life in Clinton and attended the Clinton School system. He later moved to Ayer where he attended Ayer High School. John served in the U.S. Navy during WW2 as a Seaman on both the U.S.S Orion and the U.S.S Robert H. McCard. After the War, he worked at Stone’s Radio in Ayer and later as a bailer for Bemis Bag in Pepperell, retiring in 1972.
His survivors include a brother Allan P. Hallett of Leominster, 2 sisters Carolyn Newsham of Ayer, and Miriam E. Miner of Lunenburg, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Hope Long who died in 2002. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Badger Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.

CHARLES GRAFTON HEMENWAY Sr. 68
Born in Groton, on August 4, 1941 son Grafton F. and Esther B. (Yapp) Hemenway. A lifelong resident of Groton was a graduate from Groton High School in 1959.
Charles enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve in 1958. Stationed in Groton, CT and Bermuda, Charles reached the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class Damage Controlman.
Mr. Hemenway worked 18 years as a Journeyman Bookbinder at the Murray Printing Company, where he met his wife of 44 years, Mary (Daly). Charles went on to join the staff of the Groton-Dunstable School System, and spent most of his 23 years there as Head Custodian.
Charlie was proud of the fact that his forbearers had served in nearly every conflict since King Phillip’s war, and he took great interest in the Hemenway family genealogy. His ancestors moved to the area that would become Groton shortly after the second Mayflower voyage, and have resided locally ever since.
He enjoyed being on or near the water, and spent many days boating and fishing with Mary. He was also an avid gardener, and took great pride in his summer vegetables.
Charlie will be remembered as a gentle, generous and good humored man.
He gave his time freely, often with out being asked. He never hesitated to pick up a hammer, shovel or paint brush if it would lighten someone else's load.
His is survived by his wife Mary (Daly) Hemenway of Groton a daughter Tina and her husband Mike McGuire of Mason, NH, a son Charles and wife Beth of Saco, Maine, A sister Jean and her husband John Sheedy of Groton. 7 Grandchildren Jack, Molly, Erin and Mikey McGuire, Samuel, Ellis and Greta Hemenway, A brother-in-law Vincent and wife Marsha Daly of Chelmsford, five nieces and nephews and their families. Charles is predeceased by his beloved brother Robert W. Hemenway and is survived by his partner Vic Galvan of Santa Fe, NM
Visiting hours are 4-6:30 pm on Friday November 6, 2009 at Badger Funeral Home, Groton, MA. followed by a Funeral Home Service at 6:30pm. Contributions made be made in Charles' memory to the Nashoba Nursing Service and Hospice, Two Shaker Road, Shirley, MA 01464.

Bert H. Webster
Bert H. Webster, 80, of Bulkeley Road, Littleton died at Wayside Hospice in Wayland on December 9, 2009. He was born in Boston on July 15, 1929 son of the late Beatrum and Violet (Hetherington) Webster. He grew up in Arlington and Ashby and came to Littleton in Second Grade. He graduated from Littleton High School in 1947 and served 4 years in the U. S Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Bert was married in 1951 later moved back to Littleton. Mr. Webster worked as a truck driver all his and had worked for his father, Pierce Brockton, Cummington Trucking, and later Veryfine in Littleton retiring at age 66. He later drove for Burnham Transport in Ayer for 11 years.
Mr. Webster owned his own airplane and was a member of AOPA. He and his wife traveled all 50 States and owned a house in Prince Edward Island where they enjoyed spending time. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Littleton and was a Sunday School Teacher for mentally challenged children.
His survivors include his wife Carolyn (Furbush) Webster of Littleton. His children Glenn Webster, Wayne Webster. Lyle Webster. Dawn Gravlin, and Lynne Swanson, all of Littleton .He was Grandfather of David Gravlin, Peter Gravlin, Jennifer Griggs, Michael Gravlin, Lisa Swanson Ferrini, Dale Swanson, Wendy Swanson, Devon Webster and Micah Webster, and the Great Grandfather of Morgan Gravlin, David Gravlin 3rd, Taylor Gravlin, Peter Gravlin Jr., Josie Gravlin, Jillian Griggs, Dylan Griggs and Phaedra Ferrini. Funeral Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Littleton, Littleton Common, Littleton on Monday Dec 14 at 11 a.m. Visiting Hours Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton, , Burial at Westlawn Cemetery, Littleton, In lieu of flowers contributions ma be made in his memory to The First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Laura Souza DeBenedictis
Laura Souza DeBenedictis passed away at the age of 90 on Friday December 18, 2009. With great loving memory, Laura will be forever in the hearts of her children, her nieces and nephews, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren and her significant adopted family members.“Mom, Auntie Laura and Nana” as she was known by all, was blessed with God’s greatest of all gifts, the gift of Love. Theresa (O’Leary) Spurr
Theresa (O’Leary) Spurr, 79, of Hartwell Ave, Littleton died on December 17, 2009, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton after a lengthy illness. She was born in Lowell on April 4, 1930 daughter of the late Vincent and Amelia (Reineck) O’Leary. She was the wife of the late George E. Spurr Jr., who died in 2008. Terry grew up in Dracut and was a graduate of Dracut High School, Class of 1948. Terry worked as SS Pierce in Boston for several years and then married her husband George in 1953. Since he was in the military, they lived in many places including Hawaii, California, Tennessee, New York, Goose Bay Labrador and Keflavik Iceland. They made their home in Littleton since 1974.
Mrs. Spurr worked in Finance for the U.S Government in the Civilian Personnel Department for over 33 years. She was member of St. Anne’s’ Catholic Church in Littleton and was member of St. Anne’s Sodality and St. Anne’s Prayer Group. Terry also volunteered for many groups.
She is survived by her children, George E. Spurr 3rd of Littleton and Kevin and his wife Melissa Spurr of Littleton, and her grandchildren Liam F. Spurr and Thomas O. Spurr. She was also the sister of the late Louise Gordon, Mary Torchio, and Elizabeth Caruso. Funeral from the Badger Funeral Home 347 King Street, Littleton on Tuesday at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Anne’s’ Church, 75 King Street, Littleton. Visiting Hours Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Burial at Westlawn Cemetery, Littleton.

Herbert R. Gray
Herbert R. Gray, 88, of Russell Street, Littleton died on December 13, 2009 at Life Care Center of Acton. He was one of 7 children born in Brooksville, Maine on January 3, 1921 son of the late Mark and Albra Gray and was the husband of the late Florence (Furbush) Gray who died in 2008. He grew up in Maine and as a young man worked on farms digging potatoes, haying, and plowing, harrowing and also clamming. Herbert joined the U.S. Army during WW2 and served 21 months in the 787th Engineer and the 159th Infantry in Normandy, Germany and France.
Mr. Gray worked as a maintenance man for General Electric for many years and had made his home in Littleton since 1959. His is survived by his daughter Diane and her husband Gregory McDowell of Weare. NH. 2 grandchildren PFC Daniel R. McDowell currently stationed as an MP in Iraq and his wife Carrie who is living at his Duty Station in Fort Stewart GA., and Bonnie J. McDowell of Weare, NH. He has one surviving sister, Shirley Cooper of Sedwick, ME. Four nephews, and lots of Great Nieces and Nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton at a later date to be announced.

William (Hal) Cummings
William (Hal) Cummings, 54, of Watt Street, Lunenburg, died at his residence on December 12, 2009, after a brief illness. He was born in Port Jefferson, NY on September 14, 1955 son of Leonard Cummings of Littleton and Jean (McIntosh) Cummings of Groton. He grew up in West Groton and was a graduate of Groton Dunstable High School, Class of 1974. Bill (Hal) worked as a technical trainer in the software engineering field and had been employed by various firms including Sanders Associates, Data Terminal, Sequoia, EMC, and Kewill.
He was married in 1987 and has made home in Lunenburg.
Besides his parents, Mr. Cummings is survived by his wife Kristen (Hanson) Cummings of Lunenburg, his daughter Courtney Raye Cummings of Leominster, 2 brothers John V. Cummings of Merrimack, NH, and James L. Cummings of Wilmington, and 5 sisters Diane E. Dupre of Amherst, NH, Mary M. Archambault of Montverde, FL, Kathleen D. White, of Gardner, Patricia J. Liberis of Pepperell, and Ann Marie Hadden of Barrington, NH
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in memory of William H. Cummings to the AstraZeneca Hope Lodge Center, 125 South Huntington Ave., Jamaica Plain, MA 02130.
Visiting Hours will be held on Wednesday December 16 from 5-8 pm at Badger Funeral Home, 45 School Street, Groton, MA. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date to be announced.

Madelyne A. (Simson) Kivlin
Madelyne A. (Simson) Kivlin died Sunday Dec 20, 2009 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston unexpectedly . She was born in Woburn March 7, 1946 daughter of the late George and Mildred L. (Libby) Simson She spent her early life in East Boston where she attended the schools and was a graduate of East Boston High School class of 1963. She was also a graduate of Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown. She had been employed as a Division Supervisor at the Main office of Coldwell Banker Real Estate in Lexington prior to her retirement.
An avid traveler she enjoyed camping and trips to Vegas and her most favorite destination was Aruba.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years Philip B. Kivlin devoted mother of William M. Kivlin both of Littleton 3 step daughters Margaret E. Casey of Chicopee, Rhonda A. Kivlin of Pepperell, Renae M. Hale of Georgia 3 Brothers Ronald Simson of Somerville, Ralph Simson of Revere and George Simson 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
A Funeral Service will be held Thurs. at 10 A.M. at the Badger Funeral Home 347 King St. Littleton. Visiting Hrs. Wed. 5-8 P.M. in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association 460 Totten Pond Rd Waltham, Ma. 02451

Richard J. Wayland
Richard J. Wayland, 55, died Friday, January 1, 2010 at Peterborough Hospital following a brief illness. He is survived by his loving wife, Jocelyn Wayland, 2 daughters; Rachael Fernandez and her husband Pablo of Fitchburg, MA and Jacqueline Wayland of Littleton, MA; his father, Andrew Wayland of Littleton, MA; one brother, Andrew P. Wayland and his wife Susan of Sacramento, CA; 2 sisters, Andrea Chandler and her husband Richard of Northboro, MA and Donna O’Connell of Orange, MA; 3 grandchildren Nicholas, Jacob, and Cara Fernandez. He was also survived by 3 step-children, Paul, Lisa, and Tammy and 2 step-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Formerly of Littleton, MA, he was born in Brighton, MA, and was the son of Andrew Wayland and the late Jeanne (Ferris) Wayland also of Littleton. He graduated from Nashoba Technical High School in 1973, and subsequently received advanced training and certifications in MIG and Steel welding processes. Dick worked as a Master Welder for most of his life, working at Processed Cooling, Tech Weld, and Siemens ITS in Austin, TX before moving to NH in 2008.
Dick most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed the beach, and was an avid motorcyclist spending countless time touring the roads of New England. He also enjoyed cooking, playing pool and chess, and tinkering with mechanical devices of all kinds. He will always be remembered by his free-spirited, gentle loving ways.
Calling Hours will be held at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St., Littleton MA..on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held at Westlawn Cemetery, Littleton, MA.on Thursday at 1 pm.

Evelyn (Jankins) Riccio
Evelyn (Jankins) Riccio, 83, of Littleton died on Jan 3 at Life Care of Acton. She was born in Belmont on July 19, 1926 daughter of the late Esau and Dulcie (Anstey) Jankins and was the wife of the late Silvio Riccio who died in 1995. She grew up un Belmont and was a graduate of Belmont High School. She was married In 1947 and lived in Watertown and moved to Littleton in 1963. She worked as a cashier at Donelan’s Supermrket in Littleton for many years a well as waitressing at many establishments. Evelyn was a member of the Littleton Congregational Church where she volunteered and also Meals on Wheels.
Her survivors include her children, Glenn P. Riccio of Sequim. WA, Carol E. Riccio of Clinton, and the late Donald Riccio. Her granddaughters Heather Raymond of Littleton, NH. and Nicole Riccio of Hinsdale, NH. She was the Aunt of June Bardsley and Leonard Bardsley both of Waltham and Bruce Bardsley of Holden. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday at 12 Noon at the Littleton Congregational Church, King Street, Littleton, Visiting Hours will be Wed at from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King Street, Littleton. Burial at Westlawn Cemetery, Littleton.

Robert E. Tratynek
Robert E. Tratynek, of Littleton, Robert Edward Tratnyek. Age 75 died on Jan. 13. Survived by his wife of 41 years Carol Ann (Hawkins) of Littleton; his children: Julie Lynn Tratnyek of Boxborough and Erik J. Tratnyek of Wenham, MA; his brother Joseph P. Tratnyek of Sudbury; his sister Carol Ann Perry of Connecticut; and his beloved grandchildren: Leimalia, Finn, and Gus. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and worked for Honeywell and Digital Equipment Corporation in technology sales. Visiting hours will be held at the Badger Funeral, 347 King St.( Rt. 2A/110) Littleton on Wednesday from 9A-10:30A, with a funeral service at 10:30A.. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National cemetery in Bourne. Mary (Maslen) Hobart
Mary (Maslen) Hobart, 72, formerly of Littleton, died at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland of a massive heart attack and other complications, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Braintree, MA on December 8, 1937 daughter of the late Albert and Ruby Maslen. She had made her home in Littleton for over 20 years and currently lived in Phippsburg, Maine and Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
Mary actively volunteered with Help Committee, Littleton Housing Authority, Littleton Scholarship Trust, Boosters Club, and Garden Club. Her hobbies included her family, and gardening. She also enjoyed entertaining friends and family, sailing, bird watching and feeding wildlife.
She was a friend to all she knew, had a smile, a shoulder or a cup of tea for anyone who came to her. She never failed to support, show love, or take care of her family and friends. Mary will be missed by all who ever knew her. The world would be less bright without her constant smile and force of personality.
Her survivors include her husband Chester E. Hobart, a son Geoffrey Hobart and her daughter in law Beth of Bethesda, MD, and their children Katherine and David, A daughter Lorie and her son in law Scott and their children Alyssa, Christopher, Geoffrey and Gregory, and a daughter Debbie and her partner Todd and her children Megan and Allie. She is also survived by a brother Eric Maslen of Attleboro, and a sister Eleanor Joy Johnson of Deering, NH.
Visiting Hours will be held at Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St, Littleton, on Friday from 7-9 pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne’s Church, 75 King Street., Littleton, and Saturday Jan 9, at 10 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Maine Coast Heritage Trust, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 201 Topsham, ME 04086.

RICHARD PRESCOTT PRICE
Former Owner of Happy Dick’s Sunoco
Concord, N.H. - Richard Prescott “Happy Dick” Price passed away Saturday, February 20, 2010 peacefully at the age of 79. Richard was born April 6, 1930 to the late Frank and Louise Price. Richard was the husband of the late Cynthia D. Price for 16 years. She passed away in 1998.
Richard was employed for many years at Middlesex Motors Concord, MA. He later owned and operated Acton Atlantic Station and Happy Dick’s Sunoco in Acton, MA.He was a member of the Army National Guard at Fort Devens, MA from 1950-1956. He was most recently employed at Duston Country Club in Hopkinton, N.H.
He is survived by his son and wife Warren and Cindy Price Chelmsford, MA, his daughter and her husband Vickee and James Pace Toronto Canada. Richard also is survived by four grandchildren Heather Price Tyngsboro, MA, Richard Price and wife Emily West Bridgewater, MA. Crystal Hacking, Kristina Pace Toronto, Canada. Two great grandchildren Kali and J.J. Toronto, Canada. He also leaves a sister and her husband Cynthia and Charles Lord, Manchester N.H., nephew, grand niece, three stepchildren and two step grandchildren.
Richard leaves many friends behind that he has made over the years of his travels, and you all know who you are. The names are too numerous to list.
The family wishes to thank the exceptionally caring staff at PleasantView, Concord Hospital, and EMTs for their devotion to dad and grandfather during our difficult time.
A celebration of “Happy Dick’s” life will be held at Duston Country Club, Hopkinton N.H. at a later date this summer.

Rosemary (McLain) Thoms
Rosemary (McLain) Thoms, 67 of Manor Circle, Chelmsford, died on February 23 at Lowell General Hospital. She was born in Boston on August 16, 1942 daughter of the late Marias and Mary (Cook) McLain and was the wife of the late Herbert E. Thoms who died in 1998 She grew up in Dorchester and S. Boston and attended Parochial School. She worked at West Roxbury High for several years and most recently was an assistant manager and Citizen’s Bank. Rosemary was married in 1959 and lived in Pennsylvania for several years, West Roxbury for 35 years and Chelmsford since 2001.
She was a member of the Westford Lions Club and she loved to cook and bake as well as volunteering in her community
Mrs. Thoms is survived by 2 daughters Theresa V. Thoms of Westford, and Stacey L. Thoms of Chelmsford. Her brothers and sisters, Barbara Baker and Frances McLain both of Braintree, Richard McLain of Dorchester, Thomas McLain of Somerville, Brian McLain of S. Boston, Ann Gonzales of S. Boston, Arlene Holman of S, Boston and Maureen McLain. She is also survived by 2 grandchildren Eric D. Parsons and Justin A. Parsons, both of Westford.
A Graveside Service will be held at The Gardens at Gethsemane Cemetery, West Roxbury at a later date to be announced.
