Debra Murphy

LANCASTER – Debra A. (Rouleau) Murphy, age 62, a resident of Lancaster and former resident of Westminster, died Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton.

Born on August 7, 1952, Debbie is survived by her parents, Leon and Mildred Rouleau of Fitchburg, and longtime companion Hank Hamelin of Lancaster; her daughter Kelly Murphy of Montpelier, VT; sister Diane Rouleau and her husband Robert Gardula of Lunenburg; brother Scott Rouleau and his wife Kimberly and their children Cameron and Justine of Sunapee, NH, as well as many loving friends. Debbie was most recently employed at Kleinfelder in Framingham, and previously worked at United Cooperative Farmers in Fitchburg.

Her diagnosis of glioblastoma in 2008 brought many challenges and obstacles, faced with immeasurable strength and grace. Debbie displayed a will to live a life in full. She dressed every day with her impeccable style: carefully chosen outfit, jewelry, and always the perfect shoes.

With her daughter she shared her passion for shopping and all furry creatures, especially dogs. She made millions of Rice Krispie treats, spent weeks sewing Halloween costumes, planned gorgeous Christmas parties, and always had time to talk.

Holding onto Hank on his Harley, Debbie embraced the new experiences they shared with joyous enthusiasm - whether out west at the National Parks or skiing the powder in Idaho and British Columbia. He brought her hiking, biking, and challenged her fashionista side by travelling via motorcycle with a saddlebag as their only luggage. Once while in heavy traffic, she told him to “be patient and smile - we can’t know what the person you’re upset with is struggling with right now”.

She exemplified the saying: “May her memory be a blessing.”

Family and friends are invited to attend her Celebration of Life on Friday, April 24 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm at the Best Western Plus at 187 Chelmsford St, Chelmsford MA. As this is a celebration, Debbie requested everyone wear colorful clothing!

In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be designated for Dr. Lyndon Kim’s Brain Tumor Research at Jefferson, online at Advancement.Jefferson.edu/memorialgiving or mailed to Office of Institutional Advancement, 125 S. 9th St, Suite 700, Philadelphia, PA 19107. Please make checks payable to Jefferson, with Debbie’s name in the memo line.
