Richard Schueller

Richard “Rich” L. Schueller, 53, of Chelmsford, MA, passed peacefully on June 19, 2015, after a valiant battle with glioblastoma multiforme. He was surrounded by his family, close friends and loving cocker spaniel Pepper. He was born in Syracuse, New York, on June 29, 1961, to Eugene W. and Gladys I. (Rock) Schueller. Richard and Susan celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Hawaii in October 2014 and traveled to St. Thomas in March 2015.

Richard graduated from Chelmsford High School in 1979. During his high school years, he enjoyed playing his guitar and singing in a band. In 1986, he received his Bachelor of Science in Physics at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where he met his wife in 1983. He worked as a research scientist at American Science and Engineering of Billerica, MA from 1986 to 2013. He was an independent research consultant in 2014. Richard was the co-inventor of 6 United States patents, with 7 more currently in the approval process. He co-authored technical standards for the American National Standards Institute.

A Renaissance man, Rich pursued many hobbies and sports, including guitar and piano, scuba diving, snorkeling, marksmanship, skiing, bicycling, rock climbing, hang gliding, carpentry, beer brewing, cooking, teaching, and hiking. An avid astronomer, Richard designed and built an astronomical observatory. He was a dedicated member of the New Hampshire Astronomical Society, instrumental in the organization’s Educational Outreach program, especially for the placement and support of hundreds of telescopes in public libraries throughout New England. Rich received his certification for rescue scuba diving in 2013.

Rich also loved animals, dedicating much time to raising and training his beloved pets.

Richard leaves his wife Susan M. (Chaisson) Schueller, his sister Patricia (Schueller) Lafleur and her husband Robert Lafleur of Hudson, NH; nephews Benjamin Lafleur of Nashua, NH and Daniel Lafleur of Somerville, MA, his aunt May Sentman of Missoula, MT, several cousins across the country and friends throughout the world.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 pm at the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St. Chelmsford, MA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 o’clock at St. Mary Church, 25 North Rd. Chelmsford. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Chelmsford will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to the ASPCA, 424 E 92nd St. New York, NY 10128 or www.aspca.org.

James Antonakos

James G. Antonakos, a resident of Chelmsford and formerly of Tewksbury and Wilmington, died on Tuesday, August 26, 2008. He was the beloved husband of Sophie K. (Kalantzakos) Antonakos to whom he had been married for 46 years and who survives him and resides in Chelmsford . He was born on August 13, 1920 in Lowell a son of the late George J. and Stella (Genakos) Antonakos. Mr. Antonakos was educated in the Lowell and Dorchester School Systems. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. Prior to his retirement he worked for the Sheraton Hotel Chain. He also worked in the Banquet Dept at the Park Plaza Hotel and the Statler Hotel. He was a member of the D.A.V. chapter 110, Greek American Legion, Hellenic Culture Society, Hellenic Heritage Society and the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell and was also a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Woburn. He was an avid sports fan and loved children. In addition to his loving wife he is survived by 2 brothers, Nicholas G. Antonakos of Arlington and Charles G. Antonakos and his wife Elizabeth of Quincy, 2 sisters, Mary A. Pergantis of Arlington and Pauline A. Macaris and her husband John of Billerica and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves three sisters-in-law, Martha K. Lawrence of Lowell, Stella K. Hantzes of Chelmsford and Effie K. Routsis and her husband Christos of Lowell and two brothers-in law, Nicholas Kalantzakos and his wife Helen of Portsmouth, NH and Michael Kalantzakos of East Chelmsford. He was pre-deceased by three brothers, John G., Michael G. and Frances A. Antonakos. Visiting hours will be held on Friday evening from 4 to 7pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Lewis St., Lowell. Burial in Westlawn Cemetery. Expression of sympathy may be made to the Hellenic American Academy, 41 Broadway St., Lowell, MA 01854.

Jack Cuthbert

Jack Wales Cuthbert, formerly of Bedford, MA and Bridgton, ME passed peacefully surrounded by family on May 12, 2015 at the age of 90. Jack was born in Arizona in 1924, son of Elizabeth and Carson Cuthbert and raised and schooled in Chicago, IL. After graduating from high school in 1941, Jack enrolled in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY. His education was interrupted when he was drafted in 1942, and served four years in the Army as a Signal Corpsman, earning the rank as Master Sergeant. Jack’s service in the military brought him to Burma and India. After his honorable discharge in 1946, Jack returned to RPI and completed his Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy Sciences in the Class of 1949.

In 1954, he married Eleanor (Rogers) after meeting her at a college mixer in Troy, NY, where she was a nursing student at The College of St. Rose. In the early years of their marriage they lived on the Rogers family farm in Schylerville, NY, where their first son, John was born and in Boston where Jack was a graduate student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Taking a position at Hughes Aircraft, the family moved to Los Angeles, CA, where three daughters, Maryellen, Elizabeth and Catherine (Casey) were born. The family returned to the East Coast, living in PA, CT and NY, finally settling in Bedford, MA as the family expanded to include sons Ean, Evan and Jay and daughter Alison.

Jack worked as an engineer for EG&G; and Kennecott Copper (Ledgemont Laboratories) before founding Magnetometric Devices Incorporate in Methuen, MA, where he remained in the position of president until his retirement.

Jack and Eleanor and their family made their home in Bedford, MA for over 30 years before moving to Bridgton, ME full-time in 1995 where they enjoyed pontoon boat rides on Moose Pond, fireworks over Shawnee Mountain on 4th of July and family visits. Jack became active in the Bridgton and Fryeburg communities of St. Joseph and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Churches, and Cumberland County Prison Ministries. He also volunteered at the senior center assisting area residents with their taxes.

Jack and Eleanor enjoyed traveling the world including trips to Africa, Russia, Ireland, Europe, Jamaica, Israel, Italy and South America. He spoke often of special trips to Alaska, Peru and along the Appalachian Mountain Trail accompanying his children.

Jack’s legacy was his commitment to family and the lesson of the importance of education that he instilled in his children. He always opined that education “was one’s ticket to life”. Through his hard work, he was proud that he and Eleanor were able to help provide the opportunity of advanced education to all his children.

Jack was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Eleanor, father, Carson and mother, Elizabeth, son John, his in-laws Celia and William Rogers and brother-in-laws William Rogers and Kenneth Nussbaumer.

Surviving Jack are his children; Maryellen of Chelmsford, MA, Elizabeth Cote of Denmark, ME, Catherine and Andrew Allman, of Newburyport, MA, Ean and Jennifer of Edwards, IL, Alison of ME, Evan and Sue of Braintree MA and Jay and Krystal of Windham, ME and sister-in-law Ann Nussbaumer of FL and several nieces and nephews.

He loved and was loved by his grandchildren and great-grandchild: Michael Cote of FL; Kelly and Christopher Cote of Westbrook, ME.; Jonathan Allman of Haverhill, MA, Nicholas Allman of Nashua, NH, Alexander, Victoria, and Andrew David Allman of Newburyport MA. Jack, Cilana, August and Carson Mendoza of ME; MacKenzie and Dillon Cuthbert of Edwards, IL.; Mary and Rose Cuthbert of Braintree, MA; Ashlynn Cuthbert of Windham, ME and Jacob of ME.

Visitation will be held at St. Michaels Church, Thursday, May 21st, from 9:30-10:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Burial will be in the St Mary’s Cemetery, in Schuylerville, NY, on May 22, at 12:00 pm.

His family is very appreciative of the condolences, support and prayers for Jack and his family at this time. In lieu of flowers; memorial donations made be made to the Veterans Program, Compassionate Care Hospice, 800 West Cummings Park, Suite 3100, Woburn, MA 01801.

Theresa Reid

CHELMSFORD – Theresa M. (Gelineau) Reid, 86, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Lowell General Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Frederick H. Reid, former Chief of the Chelmsford Fire Department.

She was born and raised in Lowell and was a daughter of the late Romeo and Irene M. (Gendreau) Gelineau.

Theresa was an avid and talented bowler and she enjoyed sewing. Theresa’s greatest joy was spending time with and taking care of her family.

In addition to her loving husband, Theresa is survived by her children; Daniel Reid, James Reid, John Reid and his wife Valerie, and Terry (Reid) Kehoe and her husband Michael, all of Chelmsford; eight grandchildren; Daniel Reid and his wife Kimberly, Robert Reid and his wife Evonne, Jennifer Reid, Lauren Reid, Matthew Reid and his wife Rebecca, Ashley Reid, Tre Kehoe, and Kendra Kehoe; three great-grandchildren; Ryan Reid, Trevor Reid, and Jack Reid, and a sister Eileen Parent of FL.

Visitation will be on Friday from 9 to 11 am at the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford followed by her Funeral Service to begin at 11 o’clock at the Funeral Home.

Interment in Heart Pond Cemetery, Chelmsford.

Philip Gately

CHELMSFORD - Philip J. Gately, 78, a longtime resident of Chelmsford and former resident of Natick passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015 with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Nancy (Hansberry) Gately to whom he was married 54 years.

He was born in Waltham on March 9, 1937 a son of the late William and Agnes (Hennebury) Gately. He attended school in Natick and went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree by attending Boston College at night for fourteen years. Philip also served in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1961.

Prior to his retirement in 1994, Philip worked as a purchasing manager for Raytheon Corp. where he had been employed for more than 40 years.

Philip was a parishioner of St. Mary Church and a past Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus in Andover. He was the past president at the Longmeadow Golf Club in Lowell where he enjoyed a round of golf or a hand of 45’s. Philip loved to drive and take his wife Nancy on trips to Florida, Saratoga Raceway and Atlantic City. Above all, Philip loved to meet new people and engage in conversation, often offering his advice to others. He never missed an opportunity to make new friends and will always be remembered for his outgoing personality.

In addition to his loving wife, Philip is survived by four daughters, Pamela McClure and her husband Robert of St. Mary, GA, Kathleen Shartzer and her husband Jeffrey of Bedford, NH, Nancy Hauman and her husband Kirk of Tyngsboro and Jennifer Wetmore and her husband Joe of Hudson, NH; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; a brother and two sisters, Peter Gately and his wife Phyllis, Catherine Rizzo, and Marcella McKay and her husband Richard and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Philip is predeceased by two brothers and a sister, William Gately, Bernard Gately and Theresa Waldron.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday evening from 4 to 8 pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St. CHELMSFORD. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 o’clock at St. Mary Church, 25 North Rd. Chelmsford. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Barbara Hayes

CHELMSFORD - Barbara E. (Noon) Hayes, 89, a lifelong resident of Chelmsford, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert G. Hayes who died in 2003.

She was born in Lowell on July 19, 1925, and was a daughter of the late Thomas H. and Rose (Dowd) Noon.

Prior to her retirement Barbara worked as a Switchboard Operator at Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell and was formerly a dental assistant in the Greater Lowell area.

Barbara was a parishioner of St. Mary Church in Chelmsford and was a longtime, active member of the Chelmsford Senior Center. She was also a former member of Long Meadow Golf Club in Lowell.

She is survived by a sister, Thelma Heathcock and her husband Donald of Lowell and a nephew, Gary Heathcock and his wife Robin of Lowell. She was also the great aunt of the late Matthew T. Heathcock.

It being her wish, calling hours have been omitted.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Church in Chelmsford at a later date.

Interment in St. Patrick cemetery in Lowell.

Pamela Simard

CHELMSF0RD – Pamela A. (Boley) Simard, age 52, a resident of Chelmsford and former resident of Lowell died unexpectedly Monday, March 16, 2015 at her home. She was the beloved wife of Robert E. Simard, Jr., to whom she was married for 24 years.

She was born in Richmond, VA on April 14, 1962, and was a daughter of Doris B. (Prud’homme) (Boley) Norwood of Bedford, NH and the late Paul Norwood. She was also the daughter of the late Reginald L. Boley. She received her early education at the Bartlett school in Lowell and was a graduate of Lowell High School, class of 1980. She earned an associate’s degree from Middlesex Community College.

Pamela had been employed for many years as an assistant administrator by Cisco Systems in Boxboro.

In her free time she enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, and her faithful companion Riley. Her greatest joy was spending time with her cherished granddaughter Chloe.

In addition to her husband and mother, Pamela is survived by her three children, Robert E. Simard, III and his wife Jennifer of Ashby, Kristin Simard of Chelmsford, and Courtney Simard of Chelmsford; her granddaughter, Chloe Simard; two brothers, Leonard Boley and his wife Mary of Lynnwood, WA and Christopher Norwood of CA; three sisters, Kathleen Frechette of Lowell, Linda Linehan and her husband Paul of Auburn, NH, and Anita Santiago of Lowell; her father-in-law, Robert A. Simard, Sr. of Chelmsford; her stepsiblings, and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. She was also the daughter-in-law of the late Phyllis Simard.

Visitation will be held at the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford, on Friday from 4 until 8 pm.

Her Funeral Service and interment in St. Joseph cemetery in Chelmsford will be private.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Pamela’s memory to Habitat for Humanity, 124 Main St., Westford, MA 01886.

Robert Barris Jr.

Robert Wade Barris Jr, 91, died peacefully on November 18, 2014 with his children and grandchildren by his side. For most of his life, Bob was a resident of Chelmsford, MA and summer resident of Ocean Park, ME. For the past 2 years he lived at The Woods at Canco in Portland, ME.

Bob was born to Robert and Lydia Shedd Barris on May 12, 1923. Bob was a graduate of Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He was a lieutenant in the Navy and served as a 2nd assistant engineer in the Merchant Marines in World War II.

Bob married Helen Ruth Vidito in 1950. She sadly predeceased him 34 years to date on November 18, 1980. Bob is survived by his sister, Charlotte Lawson Walker, a son Robert W. Barris III and his wife Deborah; three daughters Marsha Van Leeuwen and her husband Don; Barbara Smidt and her husband Sid; Judith Cote and her husband Paul; four grandchildren Kate Nicholson, Zachary Nicholson, Matthew Cote and his wife Olivia and Siemen Smidt; and his many friends in Ocean Park.

While Helen was alive, they enjoyed ballroom dancing with their “dance group”. He enjoyed reading, refinishing furniture, re-caning chairs and yard work. Bob thought of the Ocean Park cottage as his home and took great pleasure in sitting on the porch talking with his friends as they walked to and from the beach.

Bob retired from Lowell General Hospital in 1988 where he was the Facilities Director. Bob was a member of William North Lodge A.F. & A.M., Lowell, MA and Aleppo Shriners, Wilmington, MA.

A private family graveside service will be held at Pine Ridge cemetery in Chelmsford, MA. There will be an open house celebration of Bob’s life in May, 2015 at the Ocean Park family cottage. More information will be provided to friends and family in the spring. Donations in his memory may be made to the Ocean Park Association, 14 Temple Ave, Ocean Park, Maine, 04063.

Leola Foden

CHELMSFORD – Leola B. (Brown) Foden, age 84, a longtime resident of Chelmsford died Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Lowell General Hospital following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Donald R. Foden, to whom she was married for 62 years.

She was born in Boston on April 23, 1930, and was a daughter of the late Ralph E.T. and Elsie (Chickering) Brown. She received her education in Malden schools and was a graduate of Malden High School, class of 1948. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Boston University.

Prior to her retirement, Leola was employed for 27 years as a special education teacher by the town of Westford.

She was an active member of the Central Baptist Church in Chelmsford for many years.

Leola was an avid Red Sox fan and a talented cook. She also enjoyed writing poetry, gardening, researching her family’s genealogy, and spending time outdoors, especially in New Hampshire. Her greatest joy in life came from spending time in the company of her loving family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two sons and daughters –in-law, Glenn and Teresa Foden of Mount Airy, MD and Gary and Linda Foden of Hudson; and five grandchildren, Becky, Meghan, Joshua, Emily, and Hannah.

It being her wish, there will be no visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service at Central Baptist Church, 9 Academy St., Chelmsford on Friday at 10:30 am. Interment in Pine Ridge cemetery in Chelmsford.

Dorothy Harrison

CHELMSFORD - Dorothy Marie “Dot” Harrison, 87, a longtime (47 years) resident of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her large, loving family, on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Lahey Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts. Dot was married for 61 years to the love of her life, the late, Colonel Francis X. Harrison who passed away in 2012.

Dorothy was born on April 15, 1927 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late William Cosmos and Anne Marie (Walsh) Syple. She was a graduate of Cambridge High School.

Dot and Fran “Colonel” enjoyed raising their family in the military (U.S. Army) for 23 years, which included numerous deployments and assignments both stateside and overseas. Fran and Dot, who moved to Chelmsford, MA from Ft. Knox, KY in 1968 to be closer to family, where Fran retired from active duty in 1970, after a final deployment to Vietnam. They continued to raise and educate their children in Chelmsford. Dorothy will be sadly missed but never forgotten. Dot and Fran were at the center of their children’s lives and the children the center of theirs. Dot’s life was full and rich as she lived and loved each day with her husband, Fran and her 8 children by her side. Together Dot and Fran cheered on their children and grand children at high school and college sporting events barely missing a game, very proudly attended every graduation and milestone, loved family gatherings at home, down the Cape and up at the Lake in NH and cherished their travels and adventures with their best friends, from the military, Pat and Edna Flores of Oregon. Dot also traveled extensively overseas with her family during her husband’s vast military career and has special memories of a family trip with many children and grandchildren to Ireland to visit Fran’s family homestead. Dot was an excellent cook, crossword puzzle whiz, and avid reader. She enjoyed bingo, following political news and was a fabulous, devoted and loving mother. Dorothy coached softball, was involved in her children’s scouting events, and loved camping trips with her young family and friends. She also loved her “girl trips” with her sisters to Foxwoods. Dot and Fran always modeled to their children the sacrifices made by military families, and raised their family with great emphasis on the values of faith, love of country, education, hard work, helping and loving one another, and family first.

Dorothy is survived by six children; Dennis Harrison and his wife, Mary, of Scituate, MA, MaryAnn Solis and Brian McGettrick of Tewksbury, MA, Ellen Finn and her husband, Dr. R. Thomas, Jr., of Laconia, NH, Francis X. “Rocky” Harrison, Jr. and his wife, Jeanne, of Chelmsford, MA, Colleen Parrish and her husband, Branch, of West Falmouth, MA, and Kevin Harrison of Chelmsford, MA; and by her 14 adored grandchildren of whom she was most proud; Gaye Lindsay(William), Glenn Ghidoni, Chad Ghidoni, of Plymouth, MA, Jennifer, Dennis and Brendan Harrison of Scituate, MA, Atty. Sean Solis, (Courtney) of Weston, CT, Atty. Nicholas Solis (Meghan) of Litteton, MA, Jeff Solis of Stoneham, MA, Dr. R. Thomas Finn, III (Dr. Avni) of Boston, MA, Dr. Kiirsten Finn Murphy, (Tom) of Portland, ME, Lauren Finn of Walla Walla, WA, Michaela Hagerty Petersen (Tom) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Trevor Harrison of Chelmsford, MA. She was the blessed great-grandmother of 8; Ryan, Cody, Haley, McCauley, Mason, Hamptin, Reed, and Sam. Dot is also survived by 4 loving sisters, Ellen Shea of Woburn, MA, Corrine Tuells of Westwood, MA, Mary Ranelli of Billerica, MA and Agnes Evans of Arlington, MA; and 19 nieces and nephews. In addition to her large, wonderful family, Dorothy was predeceased by 3 children; an infant daughter, Dorothy. M. Harrison, a son, William E. Burnes, and a daughter, Sandra McCauley Herterick.

It being her wish, there will be no visitation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 9am, at St. Mary’s Church, Chelmsford, MA.

Private Family Interment to follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watertown, MA.
