Suzanne Swanson, 56

Bookkeeper, enjoyed painting

SWAMPSCOTT - Mrs. Suzanne J. (Crawley) Swanson, 56 years of Swampscott, formerly of Lynn and North Andover, died on Saturday, August 8, 2009, in a Salem nursing home after a brief illness. She is the wife of Eric A. Swanson. She was born in Lawrence, the daughter of Shirley (Englehardt) Crawley and the late Jack Crawley. She was raised in North Andover and was a graduate of North Andover High School. She also attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. She lived in North Andover, Lynn for 35 years and in Swampscott the past year. She was employed as a bookkeeper in the banking industry for many years. Suzanne enjoyed painting in acrylics and primarily painted seascapes.

In addition to her husband with whom she shared 32 years of marriage she leaves, a sister, Kathy Morgano and her husband Steve of Boston and New Hampshire, a brother John Crawley and his wife Cara of Salem, two nephews Nickolas Morgano of East Boston, Jack Crawley of Salem, a niece Emily Stoner and her husband Ryan of Chicago.

She also leaves her godmother Ruth Matish of Florida and several cousins. She is the sister of the late Diane Saumsiegel. She is the niece of the late Doris Bancroft.

Service Information: Suzannes funeral will be held on Friday at 9:00 a.m. from the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean Street (Rte 1A) Lynn followed by funeral services in the First Church in Swampscott, Congregational, Monument Avenue, Swampscott at 10:00 a.m. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 1 Franklin Street, Lynn, Massachusetts 01901.

Louise J. Reilly, 89

Marblehead High School employee

MARBLEHEAD - Louise J. (Woods) Reilly, age 89, wife of the late Thomas J. Reilly of Marblehead, died at home Friday morning.

Born in Salem the daughter of the late Nicholas and Anastacia (Martin) Woods, she was raised and educated in Marblehead. A graduate of Marblehead High School, Class of 1937, Mrs. Reilly attended business school in Boston and then became employed by S.S. Pierce also in Boston for a brief period. During World War II she was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I) in the Boston Office and in 1946, became a clerk for the Veterans Administration on Boston.

From 1960 until her retirement in 1982, she enjoyed her career, colleagues and friends in the Principals Office of Marblehead High School.

An avid Red Sox Fan, Mrs. Reilly loved animals and had raised miniature poodles. She loved being with her family and took a strong interest in all of her nieces and nephews activities.

Mrs. Reilly is survived by a sister Anne Casey of Marblehead; her nieces and nephews Judith Kingsford of Wellington, FL., John Woods of Apex, NC, Peter Woods of Newburyport, Scott Woods of Salem, Charlene Burkinshaw of Salem, Cheryl Tremblay, Sean Casey and Nicholas Casey all of Marblehead; many great nieces and nephews including a special great niece Hannah Casey of Marblehead. She was predeceased by a sister Gertrude Homan a brother John Woods and a nephew who was also her Godson, Thomas Casey.

Service Information: Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 13, at 9:15 A.M. form the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 81 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. Wendy McMahon, 29

Caretaker for Project COPE, loved music

LYNN - Miss Wendy J. McMahon, age 29, of Lynn, died suddenly in her home on Thursday. She was the beloved daughter of Kathleen McMahon of Lynn and the late Carl McBride.

Wendy was born in Lynn, attended Lynn Schools, was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School and resided here her entire life.

She worked at the Wild Harvest, Hilltop Steakhouse, and most recently as a caretaker for Project COPE in Lynn. Her greatest love was music. She enjoyed keeping active and was a member of the Lynn YMCA. She also enjoyed trips to the beach.

In addition to her mother, she leaves her brother, James McMahon of Lynn. She was the step-daughter of Kevin Brennan of Beverly. She also leaves three special aunts, Mary Ellen Beam of Amesbury, Joanne McMahon of Revere, and Colleen McMahon of Lynn. She is further survived by several other aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Service Information: Wendys Funeral will be held from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple St. LYNN on Thursday at 8:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in the Sacred Heart Church at 9:00 a.m. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery. William R. Gordon, 78

Former Lynn resident

FORT MYERS, Fla. - William R. Gordon, 78, of Fort Myers passed away on April 11, 2009. He was born in Lynn on Aug. 1, 1930.

William was a past Master of Golden Fleece Lodge, Lynn; past Illustrious Master Zebulun Council, Lynn; past Grand P.C.S of Grand Council, Boston; Provast Guard of Allepo Temple Shriners; Member of York Rite and Scottish Rite; past President of Homeowners Board of Directors of Century 21 Senior Citizens Park for two years, Fort Myers, Fla.

William will be greatly missed by wife, Jane Mills-Gordon; daughter, Cathleen Whicher; grandsons, Brenton, Joshua, Alex; and many nieces and nephews.

Service information: Arrangements by National Cremation Society.

Deborah McNamara, 66

Worked for Catholic Charities

MARBLEHEAD - Deborah Santry McNamara, 66, of Marblehead, died peacefully surrounded by friends and family on May 25 at North Shore Medical Center following complications from surgery.

She was known affectionately as Deb by her family and countless friends who meant the world to her. Deb was the daughter of the late Daniel Santry, a lawyer who was Marblehead Town Counsel, and his wife, the late Mary Santry, a long-time employee of the Marblehead School Department. Deb was a 1960 graduate of Marblehead High School and attended Dean College in Franklin, MA. In 1966, Deb was married to the late Richard Douglass McNamara.

Deb worked at Catholic Charities in Lynn for many years, where she gained the affection of fellow workers and clients. For recreation, Deb was an aerobic enthusiast at Energy Works and later Gravity Fitness.

Deb is survived by her wonderful daughter, Tara, and, her husband, Kurt, and her beloved grandchildren, Santry Elizabeth, Ruby Catherine and Jameson Douglas, all of Marblehead.

Deb is also survived by her generous and loving brother, David G. Santry, and his wife, Suzanne R. of New York City, as well as myriad cousins in Massachusetts and New Jersey. Service Information: A Memorial Service will be held in the Old North Church, 35 Washington Street, Marblehead on Friday at 12 p.m. Relatives and Friends respectfully invited. Memorial Visitation will be on Thursday at the Eustis Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead from 4-8 p.m.

Steven J. Mayne, 45

Stop & Shop clerk

LYNN - Mr. Steven J. Mayne, 45 years, of Lynn died suddenly on Thursday, June 11, 2009 in Massachusetts General Hospital as the result of a massive brain hemorrhage. He was born in Lynn, the son of the late Earl C. and Claire M. (Considine) Mayne. He was raised in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School He lived in Lynn all of his life.

He loved to read about history. He enjoyed sports. He was a Boston College fan, Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots fan. He loved animals, his late dog Kimby and his family's dog, Champ. He especially enjoyed spending time with his nephews Shawn and Justin.

Mr. Mayne was employed as a clerk in Stop and Shop. He also worked at Cap's Auto Parts for many years and as a warehouse clerk in the former Rich's.

Mr. Mayne is survived by his brother, John T. Mayne and his wife Gizelle of Lynn and several nieces and nephews, including Justin Mayne of Lynn and Shawn Bourdages of Lynn. He also leaves his many friends. He is the brother of the late Janice Mayne-Sketchley and William Mayne.

Service information: His funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the SOLIMINE, LANDERGAN AND RICHARDSON Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129) Lynn. John F. Donovan, 76

Retired member of Wolfeboro, N.H. Police Dept.

TUFTONBORO, N.H. - John Francis "Dunnie" Donovan, 76, of Tuftonboro, N.H. and Winchester, Mass., passed away June 25 in Winchester.

He was born Jan. 16, 1933 in Salem, Mass., was a member of the Wolfeboro, N.H. Police Department for many years and, in retirement, a bailiff in the N.H. court system.

Loving husband of Kathleen Marie (Brennick) Donovan; father of Kathleen Maura Donovan, Woburn; grandfather of Brendan Donovan-Tiernan and Kiern Tiernan; brother of St. Margaret Ann Donovan, S.N.D. and Kathryn M. Donovan, Lynn.

Joseph Savasta, Sr., 94

Sea Scout leader, contractor

SAUGUS - Joseph A. Savasta Sr. 94, Jurist Doctor, Accountant, Contractor and Sea Scout Leader Boston, MA. He was a man of amazing achievement and was admired by many. Born in Boston, MA in 1915, Mr. Savasta diagnosed with polio at age two and died of post polio syndrome on Saturday, August 8th 2009. Joseph died peacefully in the home he built 48 years ago surrounded by his loving family. Joseph considered his years as a Sea Scout leader to be his most rewarding contribution to young men who enjoyed being around boats and out at sea. The United States Navy recognized his commitment to young men and commissioned him with a World War II captains escort boat for his use with the scouts.

Mr. Savasta excelled in high school and was awarded a full scholarship to Northeastern University where he earned his Jurist Doctor Degree in Law. Although he never practiced law, he remained with the Department of the Navy where he became the head of the Fiscal Department at the Charleston Navy Yard, he remained at that position for 25 years and moved on to the Internal Revenue Service in 1955 where he headed up the Boston office until he founded the Joseph A. Savasta Company in Lynn, MA. During his career he was willing to accept all kinds of challenges. While in the mist of founding his accounting firm and he inherited Winthrop Contracting Company from his cousin. He managed the 60-year old company whose clients included Harvard University and Dartmouth College.

Josephs gift to gab and his love of people kept him going. He never let his handicap interfere with his joy for life. He was an advent gardener, a self- taught piano player, painter, and devoted Red Sox and Patriots fan. Joseph was very understanding of his clients financial circumstances, and would prepare taxes for the people who could not afford to pay him for the work. He would instruct his staff to allow the people to pay him when they were able to. He taught his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to be friendly and compassionate with everyone they meet.

He is survived by his wife Mafalda (Manganiello) Savasta. He was the father of Joanne (Savasta) Reynolds & her husband David Reynolds of Swampscott, John Savasta & his wife Kaja of Swampscott, Joseph Savasta Jr. & his wife Judy of Boxford. Mr. Savastas was the grandfather of John J Savasta, Kayla Savasta, Cristina Savasta, Michelle Savasta, David Reynolds Jr., Theresa (Reynolds) Gadman, Lorraine (Reynolds) Mescher and great grandfather of Steven Gadman, Michael Gadman, Matthew Gadman, and Emily Mescher.

Service Information A funeral will be held from the Bisbee-Porcella Funeral Home, 549 Lincoln Ave., SAUGUS, on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Summer St., Saugus at 10:30 a.m. Relatives & friends invited. Visiting hours Tuesday 5-9 p.m. Interment Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, West Peabody.

Carol Zeno

Board member at Lynn Arts

LYNN - Carol Zeno passed away Monday, August 10, 2009 after a brief illness at Mass General Hospital, Boston.

She was born in Middleton, MA and a lifelong Lynn resident. She was the daughter of the late Catherine "Kay" Sweeney and Chester Caldwell. She was a graduate of Lynn English High School and attended classes at Montserrat College.

Carol worked at New England Telephone and First Colonial Bank, most recently at AC Moore in the floral department. She was one of the founders and a past president of the Greater Lynn Arts & Crafts Society as well as a board member at the Lynn Arts Inc. She was known for her many pastel portraits and prints. She enjoyed dancing and was a member of 'Senior Moments' tap dancing group.

She is survived by her brother, John Macarthur, his wife Carolyn and their son Patrick, of East Hampstead, NH. She is the mother of David Zeno Jr., Patricia Hogan and Eva Andrews, and leaves five grandchildren, Katie, Karen, Krista, Adam and Zachary all of Lynn.

Service Information: Funeral Services will be held at Goodrich Funeral Home, Washington St., Lynn on Saturday at 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Enrique Fortuna

Loved time with family and friends

LYNN - Enrique Kiko Fortuna, of Lynn, passed away August 14, 2009 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Born in Lynn on September 11, 1987, he was the son of Estela Rodriguez and Enrique Fortuna. He worked in construction. Kiko loved spending time with his family and friends. He liked baseball and was a Yankees fan, and he enjoyed motorcycles.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents Andrea and Cesario Romero, his sisters Jennifer and Melissa Reynoso, his brother Efres Perez, two nieces Kylia Reynoso and Kayliana Rodriguez, one nephew Randi Rodriguez, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, and his dog Jada.

Service Information: A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, Union Street, Lynn on Thursday at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Visitation in the Goodrich Funeral Home 128 Washington St., Lynn on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

William O'Shea, Sr., 85

Retired GE employee

LYNN - Mr. William J. OShea, Sr., age 85, of Lynn, died early Thursday morning in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret (Brassil) OShea.

Born in County Kerry, Ireland, William was one of eighteen children to the late John and Ellen (Bresnahan) OShea. He was raised in Ireland and came to Lynn in 1949.

Prior to his retirement in 1985, he worked as a grinder for the GE Riverworks Plant. He was devoted to his wife and his family.

He leaves his children, William J. OShea, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Peabody, Patricia Dunnigan and her husband Garry of Lynn, Ellen Gunderman and her husband Erich of Lynn, and Kathleen Hintz and her husband Herbert of Ohio. He was the brother of Mary Powers of Peabody and Sr. Eugene OShea of England. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Service Information: Family & Friends are kindly invited to attend Visiting Hours in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple St. LYNN on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. At the request of the family, services will be private. Diane Mae McNeill, 31

Cheerleading coach

LYNN - Diane Mae McNeill, age 31, of Lynn, passed away suddenly Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the Union Hospital.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of Paul and Valerie (Smith) McNeill of Portsmouth, N.H. Raised in Lynn, Diane went to Eastern Jr. High and Lynn Tech.

She was a cheerleading coach for the West Lynn Pop Warners. Diane was a bartender and waitress and had worked at the Lido Cafe' in Lynn.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her children, Jasmynn Elaine Hawkins, Jacobe VanWinkle and Alyssa Bradley; her sister, Lisa Ann Kliever of Maryland; her brother, Steven Daniel McNeill of Portsmouth, N.H.; one niece, Alexis Kliever of Maryland; her grandmother, Flora Ormsby Smith of Lynn; good family friends Preston and Linda Hawkins and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was the granddaughter of the late Ann and Daniel McNeill.

Service information: Funeral from the Goodrich Funeral Home, 128 Washington St., Lynn, Tuesday at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Boston Street, Lynn at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lynn. Visitation is Monday 4-8 p.m.
