DEAN, DOUGLAS K. -- Douglas K. Dean, Sr., 65, retired Danvers Police Sergeant, died early Wednesday morning, July 26, 2006 following a lengthy illness.
Born in Batavia, New York on July 4, 1941, he was the son of the late Edwin and Olive (Thayer) Dean. He was raised and educated in New York and was a graduate of Oakfield Alabama High School, Class of 1958. He went on to earn an Associates Degree in criminal justice from North Shore Community College.
Mr. Dean served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1961.
In 1965, he was appointed an officer of the Danvers Police Department. Promoted to Sergeant in July of 1981, he retired in July of 1983. He was currently employed by Fazio Enterprises in Danvers and Beverly.
He enjoyed hunting and trips to Las Vegas.
Mr. Dean is survived by his children: Douglas K. Dean, Jr. of Danvers; Charlene M. Surprenant and her husband Edward of Wells, ME; Cheryl A. Fancy and her husband James of Danvers; and Christine L. Ruest and her husband Andre of Danvers; 6 grandchildren: Corey, Marc, and Scot Surpenant, Amanda Fancy, and Adrienne and Bryce Ruest; his former wife, Charlotte (Pellerin) Dean of Danvers; and his brother, Gary Dean of New York. He was predeceased by a sister, Gloria Fitzgerald.
Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2-5PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dougs memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 1131, Fairfax, VA 22038-1131.

PIERCE, PATRICIA -- Patricia V. (Baxter) Pierce, 78, of Beverly, formerly of West Peabody, died Sunday evening, July 23, 2006, in a local nursing facility following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late James W. Pierce.
Born in Stoneham on October 10, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Evelyn F. (Doherty) Baxter. She was raised and educated in Melrose and was a graduate of Melrose High School, Class of 1945. She went on to nursing school at the Malden Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated as a Registered Nurse with the Class of 1948. She made her home in West Peabody for over 35 years, where she and her late husband raised their children prior to moving to Beverly several years ago.
Pat had been employed by Beverly Hospital as an I.V. Therapist for many years prior to her retirement in 1989.
She belonged to the Cadet Nurse Corp at Fort Devens during WWII.
She was an active member of the Beverly Council on Aging and the Beverly Senior Center where she was a volunteer companion, going to the homes of elderly shut-ins to check on their well-being and to take them shopping or to do errands and was a member of the Friendship Club. She also enjoyed the Wednesday Night Bingo Games at the Center.
She was a Red Sox fan and an avid Boston Bruins fan and had been going to Bruins games since she was a child. She especially enjoyed going to watch her grandchildren play sports and spending holiday dinners and cookouts with her children and all her grandchildren.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Chris Pierce and his wife Eileen of Winthrop; four daughters and two sons-in-law; Karen Murray and her husband George and Kelly Ward and her husband Loring Butch all of Danvers and Susan Caruso and Rachael Esposito both of Florida; 11 Grandchildren, Alex, Ashley and Alycia Murray, Caitlyn Ward and Jesse and Jaclyn Caruso all of Danvers and April, Stephen, Kristina and Kimberly Pierce all of N. Andover and Shannon Riley of Winthrop; one sister Erleen Sayer of Sandwich, MA and a son-in-law Philip Caruso of Danvers. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and was the mother of the late Scott Pierce who died in 1988. She is also survived by her best friend Eloise Bunny Cacciola of Beverly.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday 11:00AM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Vst. Hrs. will be on Wednesday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, W. Peabody. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Pats name, to the Residence Fund c/o the Masconomet Healthcare Center, 123 High St. Topsfield, MA 01983.

WALLACE, OLIVE -- Olive P. (Ayers) Wallace, 87, died following a lengthy illness in a local nursing facility. She was the wife of the late Wesley G. Wallace.
Born in Lynn on March 4, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Olive (Varney) Ayers. She was raised and educated in Danvers and resided there for most of her life. She was a graduate of the Burdett Business School and was a bank teller. Mrs. Wallace had been employed with Wells Fargo Bank in Los Angeles. She and her husband enjoyed traveling. She was an avid Red Sox fan attending several of the games up until last season, with good friends from the JRC. She liked to dance and have cold beer with friends. She will be remembered by her friends and family for her generous nature and her love for children.
She is survived by a niece Candace Ayers-Rosa and her husband Manuel Rosa of Peabody, two grandnieces, Catherine Marshall of Middleton and AnnMarie Kennedy of Peabody and a brother-in-law, Carl Wallace of Danvers.
A Memorial service will be held Wed. July 12 at 11:30AM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Sylvan St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Jewish Rehabilitation Center Charitable Foundation, 330 Paradise Rd, Swampscott, MA 01907 or the Friends of the Peabody Council on Aging, 79 Central St., Peabody MA 01960.

GABORIAULT, NORMAN A. -- Norman A. Gaboriault, 55, died Sat., June 24, 2006 following a lengthy battle with AIDS. He was the owner and operator of a local gas station.
Born in Salem on April 7, 1951, he was the son of Beatrice (Saulnier) Gaboriault of Portland, ME and the late Lloyd A. Gaboriault. He was raised and educated in Middleton. Norman attended Masconomet High School, where he acted in musicals and graduated from Peabody High School in 1969.
Norman was the owner and operator of the Gulf Gas station on Brimbal Ave. in Beverly. He also had been the manager for the 7 Central Restaurant in Manchester. Norman also sang and danced regularly at Angelicas in Middleton. He had resided in Lake Tahoe, Nevada for many years and was employed by Harrahs as a Key Stone Cop, an entertainer who interacted with the customers.
Upon his diagnosis of AIDS, he moved back home, where he became involved with a local AIDS action group. Through the Strongest Link Aids Service he was able to speak about AIDS prevention to school groups and also support other AIDS patients. Norman also became an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ipswich. He was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed landscaping for his friends and neighbors.
Besides his mother, Beatrice, he is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Sharmy Gaboriault of NV and Bruce and Janice Gaboriault of Topsfield, two sisters, Sandra Hayes and Jeanne Gaboriault, both of Portland, ME and a niece and several nephews.
His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 8 at 11:00AM in the First Presbyterian Church, 179 County Rd, Ipswich. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Normans name to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers MA 01923, or The Strongest Link, 5 Federal St. Suite 250, Danvers MA 01923-3687.

LEVESQUE, ANNA L. -- Anna L. (Clement) Levesque, 87, died at a New Hampshire nursing home following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Lucien P. Levesque, Sr.
Born in Danvers on January 18, 1919, she was the daughter of the late William and Alma (Cameron) Clement. She was raised and educated in Danvers. Prior to moving to New Hampshire, where she was a member of St. Theresas Church in Rye, she had resided in Salem for over 12 years. While residing in Danvers she was a communicant of St Mary of the Annunciation Church. She was devoted to her church and family.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Lucien Pete and Viola Levesque, Jr. of New Hampshire, a sister Agnes Adrien of New Hampshire a granddaughter and two step-grandsons, Sonja Moses of New Hampshire, John and Kenneth Brown of Maine and two great grandchildren, Catherine and Jeffrey Moses and one step-great granddaughter, Molly.
Visiting hours are Thursday from 2:00pm-5:00pm at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday at 10:30AM in Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Rd., Exeter NH 03833.

RYAN, THOMAS I., 92, died Monday evening. He was the husband of Nancy (Daly) Ryan of Danvers.
Born in Brighton, MA on June 14, 1914, he was the son of the late John and Mary A. (Connelly) Ryan. Mr. Ryan was raised and educated in Dorchester and graduated from Boston College High School in 1931. He graduated from Boston College with his Bachelor in Science Degree and also graduated from the Boston College Masters Program, with a Masters Degree in Biology. Mr. Ryan was a biology professor at Boston College for over 15 years. He retired from Salem State College in 1978, where he also was a biology professor and Head of the Biology Department. Mr. Ryan was a communicant of the St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers.
Besides his wife Nancy with whom he shared 33 years of marriage, he is survived by, 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas M. and Donna-Marie Ryan of Topsfield and Christopher Ryan of Danvers, two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary M. Andrewes and John Sullivan of Chicopee and Rita and Tony Laraia of Torrington, CT, two brothers, Rev. Martin, S.J., of CT and Rev. Francis Ryan, S.J. of Jamaica, a sister, Mary Ryan of Quincy and a sister-in-law Jane Ryan of NY, four grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeffrey Laraia and Maeve and Maura Ryan, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his late wife, Rita (OBrien) Ryan and brothers, Rev. Lawrence Ryan, S.J, Rev. Joseph Ryan, S.J., John and Henry Ryan.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Fri. at 10:00AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant St., Danvers. Vst. hrs are Thurs 2-4pm and 7-9PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Mr. Ryans name to The Campion Center, 319 Concord Rd., Weston MA 02193.

SMAGULA, WILLIAM, 89, died early Tuesday morning following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Priscilla (Levasseur) Smagula.
Born in Salem, MA on July 22, 1916, he was the son of the late Andrew and Julia (Godzik) Smagula. Mr. Smagula served his country with the Unites States Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was raised and educated in Salem, then moved to Peabody, and has resided in Danvers for over 55 years. Mr. Smagula had been self-employed and employed by the Commonwealth of Mass as a carpenter. He worked at the Danvers State Hospital for over 20 years. He was a very talented woodworking, building his own home and many things inside it.
Besides his wife, Priscilla, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage, he is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Blinder of W. Roxbury, Joan and Paul Stantiel of Danvers and Judy and David Feener of Topsfield, a sister Helen Foti of FL, five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, William Andrew and five sisters.
Visiting hours are Thurs. 5-7pm at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Williams name to The Lighthouse Hospice Foundation, Inc. 529 Main St., Suite 101, Charlestown MA 02129.

ALLEN BARNEY JOSEPH ABBOTT -- Allen Joseph Barney Abbott, 54, of Danvers, died suddenly Monday morning. He was the husband of Mary Beth (Barker) Abbott.
Born in Salem on March 24, 1952, he was the son of Albert and Geraldine (Haskins) Abbott of Danvers. He was raised and educated in Danvers and attended Danvers High School, but graduated from St. Thomas More High School in Connecticut in 1970. He had bee employed with the Town of Danvers since 1988, most recently with the Street Department and a member of AFSME Local 1098. He also was employed with the Courtyard Marriott in Danvers and Comak Bros. Landscaping.
Barney was a lifelong resident of Danvers and active within his community. He coached Danvers Youth Hockey teams and the American Little League teams, as well as the CMC hockey League in New Hampshire. He was also involved with the Crusaders and the Cardinals of Beverly, a drum and bugle corp.
He enjoyed his motorcycle and was a member of the Seacoast Harley Owners Group. He was a truly dedicated father and very involved with his children. He also enjoyed cooking, vacations in Maine and riding back roads to nowhere.
Besides his wife, Mary Beth with whom he shared 24 years of marriage he is survived by three children, Matthew, Allen Jr. and Bridget, all of Danvers; three sisters, Paula Payne of NH, Patricia Boyer of Amesbury and Carolyn Karp of Beverly; a mother-in-law Mary Barker and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Sat. July 1 at 9:00AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant St. Danvers. Vst. hrs are Fri., June 30, 3-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Allen Abbott Family Fund, c/o Danvers Bank, 1 Conant St., Danvers MA 01923.

JOYCE, DANIEL -- Daniel P. Joyce, 48, died unexpectedly Friday evening, June 16, 2006, at the Lahey Clinic in Peabody. He was the husband of Pamela (Genest) Joyce, with whom he shared 25 years of marriage.
Born in Exeter, NH on Aug. 26, 1957, he was the son of Frances (LaBelle) Joyce and the late Robert J. Joyce. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of North Shore Technical High School, Class of 1975.
In recent years, Mr. Joyce was employed as a mechanic for the U.S. Postal Service and a member of the American Postal Workers Union, Local #366. For many years, he was employed at the Shell Station on High Street in Danvers, and had also worked for J. Masterson Construction in Danvers and Cummings Properties in Beverly.
He was very family-oriented, and was known for his smile and happy disposition.
Besides his wife and mother, he leaves two sons, Joseph Joyce and James Joyce, both of Danvers; three sisters: Linda Casali and Barbara Farese of Danvers and Kathleen Joyce of Groveland; three brothers-in-law: Paul, Ronald, and Michael Genest; and a loving extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Robert Joyce II and Carolyn Mills.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Relatives and friends are invited. A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday at 10AM in Walnut Grove Cemetery, 30 Sylvan St., Danvers.

DeLORENZO, ANTHONY -- Anthony Tony DeLorenzo, 57, died unexpectedly late Friday evening at his home. He was the loving husband of Kathy (Koon) DeLorenzo, with whom he shared 28 years of marriage.
Born in Beverly on May 19, 1949, he was the son of Antonio Chick DeLorenzo of Danvers and the late Muriel (MacIntyre) DeLorenzo. Raised and educated in Danvers, he was a graduate of Danvers High School, Class of 1968. In his teenage years, he was proud of playing the organ in local bands. He went on to study at Burdett School of Business before returning home to enter his familys business.
For over thirty years, Tony was employed as manager and then owner and president of Danvers Concrete Block Co. in Georgetown. For more than twenty years, he was also employed as a bartender at the Danversport Yacht Club.
Tony loved boating. He was a member of the Danversport Yacht Club Association and a member of the Beverly Sail and Power Squadron, District 18. He was the Captain of the Amore, which he dubbed, The Italian Love Boat.
In addition to his loving wife and father, Tony leaves a sister, Muriel DeLorenzo of Danvers, his father and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Catherine Koon of Danvers, his sister-in-law, Karen Rheault of Danvers, his brother-in-law, Bill Rheault of Danvers, two nephews, Brent Rheault and his wife Lindsey of Danvers and Airman First Class Brian Rheault, who was also Tonys godson, of South Carolina; a great-nephew, Nicklas Rheault of Danvers, and a loving extended family. He also leaves three special girls: Eva, Ivona, and Ania Koczkodon; and his special companion, Ziggy, his pet yorkie.
He was the loving and devoted father of Nicklas A. DeLorenzo, who died in 2001.
His Funeral Service will be held Thursday at 11AM in the Maple St. Congregational Church, 90 Maple St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Wadsworth Cemetery, Summer St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Donations in Tonys name may be made to the Nicklas A. DeLorenzo Memorial Foundation, c/o DanversBank, 1 Conant St., Danvers, MA 01923.
