SCOTT, JOHN MICHAEL -- John Michael Scott, 55, of Danvers, died Saturday June 3, 2006 after a long and courageous battle with his health. He was the husband of Nancy (Skinner) Scott.
Born in Boston on Sept., 26, 1950, he was the son of Rita (Hoar) Scott of Danvers and the late John M. Scott. He was raised and educated in Malden and Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School. John had been employed as a computer room supervisor for the American Mutual Insurance company for over 17 years. He also enjoyed landscaping part-time, cooking and working in his own yard. He had been a resident of Danvers since 1977 and was a communicant of St. Richard Parish.
John was an extremely dedicated person, his wife and daughters meant the world to him. Johns sense of humor was tremendous and a help for his family through many of his health problems.
Besides his wife Nancy, with whom he would have shared 30 years of marriage this August, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Jaclyn and Mark Couture of Leominster, Jennifer Scott of Methuen and friend Michael Cooper of NH; mother-in-law, Margaret Skinner of Rowley; two brothers, James Scott of NH and Joseph Scott of Danvers; three sisters, Mary Carey of Haverhill, Kathleen McMahon of Beverly and Helene Scott of Salem; lifelong friends, Thomas Mauriello and his family of Maryland and Thomas McMullen of Danvers. He was predeceased by siblings, Paul Scott and Peggy Ann Charette.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wed. June 7, 2006 at 10:00AM in St. Richard Church, Forest St., Danvers. Burial to follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton. Vst. hrs are Tues. from 4-8pm at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers.

GALA, GUY J. -- Guy J. Gala, 44, died Friday afternoon, May 26, 2006, in his home following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Karen A. (Papineau) Gala, with whom he shared nearly nineteen years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Frank and Janice Gala. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1979. He went on to graduate from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He had been a Danvers resident for the last nineteen years.
Most recently, Guy was employed by TSA at Logan Airport. For many years he was employed as a power plant engineer, first at Boston Edison and later at Gillette.
A Harley-Davidson enthusiast and rider, Guy also enjoyed the outdoors. He was especially devoted to his children.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Emily A. Gala, Jacqueline F. Gala, and Joseph S. Gala, all of Danvers; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank T. and Mary E. Papineau of Peabody; many nieces and nephews; and a loving extended family. He was the brother of the late Frankie Gala.
His Funeral Mass will be Wednesday at 9AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Realtives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Donations in Guys memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Henderson, Leroy Porter Jr. -- 87, died Thursday morning in his home. He was the husband of June Marie (Moser) Henderson.
Born in Salem on April 6, 1919, he was the son of the late Leroy Porter and Rita (Streamberg) Henderson. He was raised and educated in Beverly and was a graduate of Beverly High School, Class of 1937. Mr. Henderson was also a graduate of the Burdett School in Lynn, Class of 1939. He served our country with the United States Army in WWII as a medic in Iran; he was honorably discharged in 1945.
Mr. Henderson had been employed as a laboratory technician for 44 years by Sylvania, Danvers. He also was active within his community as a member of the Calvary Episcopal Church and a member of the choir for many years. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, many bowling league as well as horseshoe leagues, and an avid Red Sox fan.
Besides his wife June with whom he shared 56 years of marriage, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Lori Henderson of Maryland and David and Allison Henderson of Danvers, four daughters and two sons-in-law, Nancy and Henry Witham of Salem, June Lentine of Peabody, Joyce Henderson and Gary Baker of Danvers and Barbara and Ken Dube of Danvers, brother of Barbara Moser of Beverly, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Louise Hansbury, Ruth Andrews and Elizabeth Allen.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30AM on Sat. June 3, 2006 in the Calvary Episcopal Church, corners of Holten St. and Cherry St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Arrangements are made by C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St, Danvers.

WATKINS, CATHERINE -- Catherine C. Watkins, 64, died Friday, May 5, 2006 at Salem Hospital.
Born in Tulsa, OK, she was the daughter of the late John and Pauline (McDow) Chronister. She was raised and educated in Oklahoma, and was a 1959 graduate of Drumright High School, where she was class Valedictorian. She went on to further her education at Tulsa University; she graduated magna cum laude in 1963 and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Since 2001, she had lived in Beverly and Peabody. She had previously lived in the Southwest and the Northeast.
Mrs. Watkins had been employed in administration and human resources at Price Waterhouse, the New York Times, and The New York Daily News. Early in her professional career, she taught elementary school.
Having studied to become a concert pianist, Mrs. Watkins had an appreciation for opera, classical music, and the ballet. She also enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Danvers Red Hat Society. She loved spending time with her family, especially her cherished grandson.
She is survived by a son, Andy Watkins and his fiancée, Elizabeth Burns, both of Peabody; a daughter, Amy Watkins of Danvers; a grandson, Zachary Westling of Danvers; and a brother and sister-in-law, John and Pamela Chronister of Tulsa, OK.
A Memorial Service will be held Sat., June 10, 2006 at 1:00PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Relatives and friends are invited. Donations in Catherines memory may be made to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, Attn: Memorials, 1232 22nd St. NW, Washington, DC 20037-1292.

LACHANCE, KATHERINE -- Katherine A. (McHugh) Lachance, 95, died Monday evening, May 8, 2006, at a local nursing facility following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late William E. Lachance.
Born in Lynn on Nov. 28, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Katherine (Barry) McHugh. She was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1928. She had been a Danvers resident since 1940.
Mrs. Lachance was a founding member of St. Richard Parish in Danvers and a former member of Our Ladys Sodality.
She is survived by three children and their spouses: William and Paula Lachance of Danvers, Robert and Susan Lachance of Tewksbury, and Andrea and Merrill Hutchinson of Peabody; 8 grandchildren: Kathleen Merchel, Michael Hutchinson, Jill Vozzella, Susan Henry, David Lachance, Heather LeBlanc, Michelle Lampron, and Carl Lachance; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters: John, Terence, and Edward McHugh, Margaret Rooney, Mary Howard, and Sara Rooney.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10AM in St. Richard Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square.

BUTT, A. WYLDA -- A. Wylda Butt, 96, died Wednesday evening, May 18, 2006, at a local nursing facility following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Edward Ned Butt.
Born in Somerville on Aug. 27, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Ella (McFarland) Jackson. She was raised and educated in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School, Class of 1928. She had lived in Melrose for many years and had lived in Hamilton and Beverly for several years.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Butt also worked for several years at Friend Brothers in Melrose. She was a former member of the Keenagers at Hamilton Congregation Church, where she was a parishioner for many years.
She is survived by her children: Edward R. Bob Butt of Naples, FL and Ruth Desmarais and her husband Warner of Wolfeboro, NH; her grandchildren: Polly Immonen, Lynne LeBlanc, Julie Kordis, Donna McGrath, and Monica Fountain; her great-grandchildren: Jared and Sarah Immonen, John Desmarais, Victoria LeBlanc, Michelle, Keith, and Kevin Kordis, and Brandon and Briana Fountain; and the last of her siblings, Edith Howell of ME. She was predeceased by a grandson, John Desmarais.
Her Funeral Service will be Tuesday at 11AM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will precede the service from 10-10:45. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.

CALLAGHAN, ETHELYN -- Ethelyn R. (Howard) Callaghan, 80, died Thursday morning, May 18, 2006, following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Thomas J. Callaghan, with whom she shared over 46 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn on Sept. 24, 1925, she was the daughter of the late John and Ethel (Rivers) Howard. She was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1943. She had been a Danvers resident since 1959.
For over fifty years, Mrs. Callaghan was self-employed as a court stenographer at courthouses throughout the Northshore and Greater Boston. She was a member of the National Shorthand Reporters Association and the Massachusetts Court Reporters Association.
Mrs. Callaghan was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers and a member of the former Mr. & Mrs. Club. She especially enjoyed going to the theater and spending time with her family.
In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her children, Barry J. Callaghan of Beverly and Linda M. Packard and her husband Edgar of Beverly, two grandchildren, James and Laura Packard of Beverly, and her sister, Carol Sullivan of Derby, CT. She was predeceased by a brother, Norman Howard.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 9:00AM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Sunday from 5-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square.

GROOM, BRO. PAUL, C.F.X. -- Brother Paul Groom, C.F.X., a member of the Congregation of the Xaverian Brothers for seventy years, died after a brief illness on May 12 at age eighty-eight at the Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly.
The son of the late Joseph Groom and Frances Heywood Groom, Joseph Groom was born in Brooklyn, New York, on January 5, 1918. After attending the St. Joseph Juniorate in Peabody, MA, he entered the Xaverian Brothers in 1936 and received the religious name Paul of the Cross. Graduating from Catholic University in 1941 with a BA degree in English Literature, he began a forty-year high school teaching apostolate which would take him to Keith Academy in Lowell, MA; Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, NY; Nazareth High School and the The New School in Brooklyn, NY; and Ryken High School in Leonardtown, MD. Along the way he would earn his MA degree from Boston College and pursue further graduate studies at Fordham, Georgetown, and New York Universities. After serving as the Xaverian Brothers Vocation Director for six years, Brother Paul served nine years as a missionary at the Carmen Pampa school in La Paz, Bolivia.
Retiring from teaching in 1981, he would spend the next twenty years as a volunteer for both the Senior Companion Program and Hospice of St. Marys Program in Leonardtown, Maryland. In 2004 Brother Paul moved to Xaverian House, the Brothers retirement facility on the campus of St. Johns Prep in Danvers, MA.
An eloquent, sensitive, and extraordinarily personable man, he was a favorite with his Xaverian confreres, his students, and the elderly and dying with whom he ministered so faithfully. Brother Paul is survived by his sister Betty of San Diego, CA, and her family.
Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the St. Johns Preparatory School Chapel (Administration Building). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Prep Chapel on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Burial will follow in the Xaverian Brothers Cemetery. Arrangements will be under the direction of C. R. Lyons and Sons, Funeral Directors, Danvers. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Brother Pauls memory may be made to the Xaverian Brothers Mission Appeal at Xaverian Brothers, 4409 Frederick Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21229.

LEBRUN, HELEN -- Helen M. LeBrun, 96, of Tapley Manor, Danvers, died suddenly on Thursday, May 11, 2006 at Beverly Hospital, where she had been employed for many years before her retirement. She was the wife of the late Almon L. LeBrun, who died in 1963.
Born in Lynn on Aug. 16, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Madeleine Melanson.
She will be greatly missed by her loving family.
She is survived by a son, Gene LebRun of Beverly, her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and George Bellevue of Greenland, NH, six grandchildren: Robert LeBrun of Beverly, Gail (LeBrun) Fifield of ME, Brenda (Bellevue) Czaja of IL, Kenneth Bellevue of NH, Joyce (Bellevue) Manin of NH, and Timothy Bellevue of ME.
Her Funeral Mass will be held Saturday (TODAY) at 1PM in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery. An hour of visitation will precede the mass from 11:45AM to 12:45PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square.

RUST, RUTH -- Ruth C. Rust, 102, died April 25, 2006 at the Seacoast Nursing Home in Gloucester. She was the wife of the late Lawrence J. Rust, who died in 1987.
Born in Reading on May 20, 1903, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Dudevoir) Forten. She was raised and educated in Reading. Mrs. Rust was a resident of Peabody for many years and resided in Danvers before becoming ill.
A longtime member of the Holy Trinity United Methodist Church in Danvers, Mrs. Rust was active in the Trinity Benevolent Circle.
Mrs. Rust is survived by several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her son, Rodney J. Rust.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at 1PM in Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, 16 Sylvan St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial was held privately in Beechbrook Cemetery, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Matthew Graham Bell Restoration Fund, c/o Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, 16 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923. Arrangements are by C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square.
